I’ll be honest, I switched (ah!) from a 2017 v1 to the oled and on battery I hardly noticed that extra hour, although sure if is my impression but standby times are much better instead; not ps vita better but much better to my old 2017 v1
The shadows and lighting effects in octopath traveler look extra nice on the OLED. Also played through the Hotline Miami collection and the colors really pop in that game on the OLED.
Agreed! The first game I played after upgrading to the OLED and it is literally Night and Day when playing on this amazing display. I show it off to all my friends who are thinking of upgrading.
I you’ve already been playing docked with an OLED TV, this new Switch model is a no brainer. Going from OLED docked to LCD handheld was always a massive disappointment, and made handheld gaming feel like a compromise rather than an advantage. In fact I really didn’t enjoy undocked mode much at all. Prior to getting the OLED model, I was playing 80% docked, 20% handheld… since getting it, it’s gone the other way to about 40% docked and 60% handheld.
I hated the handheld on the regular switch since the joycons were very flimsy on it and it just had this odd bulky vibe since the screen had very thick borders, but the joycons on the OLED are very stiff which I love, plus the wider screen and more contrast. I love it, it makes it feel like I’m playing on a Switch Lite XL
I’m surprised Persona 4 Golden isn’t on the switch considering how successful it was in sales + having a console that allows you to take your game session anywhere, considering it’s a 100 hour long game
I agree that Resident Evil 4 looks great on the OLED, but the Resident Evil 1 remake is stunning on the thing. The subtlety and softness of the lighting really comes out on that screen. I've gained a whole new appreciation for the artists' skill, back on the Gamecube.
For all of those who are hesitant on getting one of these, it’s not just these 25 that look amazing. It gives a boost to them all. A-Z. And for those who are wanting to wait on the next gen…if you think a PS5 or a series X/S we’re (and are still) difficult to get for retail price or even find, whatever next gen system Nintendo puts out will be absolutely impossible to obtain. The switch and the OLED model are going to be beasts for several years yet. I grabbed one early and I play it often. It really is incredible!
You do realise it was mainly because of chip shortage right? I had to wait one year to get a ps5. We’ll probably get a new nintendo console in 1 year time. That would mean i’d have to wait a maximum of 2 years. Why would someone pay 300$ on a console that doesn’t improve anything except coloring, for 2 years… people who already own a switch : stay away from this. Otherwise go for it
Haven't been through all my library yet, but here's a few other amazing games with vibrant colors and/or deep blacks: Hollow knight, Mark of the ninja, Hellblade, Crypt of the necrodancer, Dead cells, Pikmin 3, Valiant hearts, and Animal crossing. I'd never thought the bigger screen would make such a difference either, it's so much easier on the eyes!
Great video! You asked, so here's what I'd add: -Gato Roboto looks great on the OLED! It's a black and white game, after all. -Luminous Avenger IX looks amazing, especially with those beautiful menus. -Along with Astral Chain, Platinum has Bayonetta 1 and 2 on the Switch, and those look wonderful here for the same reason - excellent colors and contrast.
I’m having a blast playing Dead By Daylight in handheld again. On the regular model you were not able to see anything of your surroundings in most levels because it just was too dark. Now it’s a great way to play again!
This was such a neat take. I just purchased a C1 77" OLED and this makes me chomp at the bit and so happy to play through some of these again! OR for the first time! Also picked up the OLED model for the Switch, and there is a "richness" there that you just can't describe. It's gorgeous. Just stunning.

Tetris Effect Connected is so good! Two you haven't mentioned are Melody of Memory, it shows off both the screen for vibrant colors and deep blacks & the speakers for the amazing music! The other is Nongunz, if you turn off the filter in settings its just white and black with a tiny bit of red, looks great!
In true Jon fashion, he starts a video about super vibrant games that look amazing with Donkey Kong, then a Tetris game. Never change, Jon. Never change.
One tip, turn Vivid off! I realised after playing some of the more colorful games that Vivid makes everything look so badly saturated. Turning it off restores everything to how it should look.
Yep. I did exactly that and found I got a little more detail and the image overall looks a lot more refined. With vivid, the finer details are lost because everything is over saturated.
Just wanted to add Rebel Galaxy Outlaws! The way the stars illuminate on the black background along with the Lights in your ships cockpit make such eye candy!
@Mr Quagmire I don’t need to watch a review, I own an OLED TV and a Samsung QLED monitor. It’s common knowledge that OLEDs don’t look as good in bright rooms/natural light. That’s literally by design, OLEDs have bad reflection in bright settings. You have to buy an anti-glare screen protector.
@@brandonkruse6412 this is a hand held system not a TV, if what you are saying is true and in our house we own each version of the Switch why is the OLED Switch more visible outside? One game that I ALWAYS break out to show off ANY display is Zelda A Link to the Past. It is one of the most colorful games for the SNES, with very distinct & saturated tones of the main colors that make up a display's color spectrum, aka Red Green and Blue. The Blue of the water in that game is as Blue as anything you'll ever see in a video game. It looks PHENOMENAL on a quality display! Same for the green of the grass, the Red of the carpet in Hyrule Castle, Etc. It's the PERFECT game to show off how well a display can do color! And it just so happens to be included in the SNES portion of the online package for the Switch :)
@@GokuInstinct1 I couldn't agree more. Nintendo's strategy to try to save their older content to promote their online service is just so so stupid. I truly miss their Virtual Console releases & so do most ppl apparently. There's no reason they can't offer both. I just don't get this strategy of theirs... They are just SO DEAD SET on holding back content in order to promote this half assed online service. They are pushing so hard to do so but are going about it in completely the wrong way! They are leaving huge profits on the table for no good reason by doing this, as the Switch is THE perfect system for these older games & they would be selling like hotcakes right now if they offered them. It's beyond stupid & is alienating their fans at the same time. It would be different if we were actually given a decent selection, but they want to overvalue their old games so much that they've only given us a small selection from a few systems. If they're going to close off software behind a paywall then at least offer the full Virtual Console library with it. Charge a bit more if you have to. Ppl would gladly pay if the entire NES/SNES/N64/GENESIS libraries were on offer. We also have zero access to the Gameboy/Advance line of games. When will those be offered? This system would be PERFECT for those games on a system that is portable! I just don't understand why they'd want to neglect such a large pool of software. They could be making BANK off of the Virtual Console releases on the Switch!
@@AlexStayFly20 No, we're complaining about the $50 one which is a ripoff, and the fact that they've made these older games exclusive to their subscription service vs selling them separately like they used to.

Great video Jon. Looking at getting the OLED soon hopefully (if my wife allows it!. I'm sure trading in my OG switch will help!). Loved your work back in the NOM COMMS days so it's great to see you with Nintendo Life
I reckon Rise looks fantastic, especially in the volcano map which has the glowing cave which is stunning and Sunbreak will look amazing when it comes.
I can name a few games that would look good on the OLED: Pokémon Sword/Shield, Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, Animal Crossing, Among Us, Smash Ultimate, Minecraft, Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Pokken Tournament DX, Super Mario Sunshine (Super Mario 3D All Stars) because of the paint and shadow Mario
I recently bought a switch lite a month ago, get home put it in my hands and Mann was it very small and uncomfortable for me to hold. It seems to almost be made fir younger kids hands. Which makes sense since it’s cheaper and they know parents are more likely to shell out for the cheaper one and that’s why I assume it’s one of the big reasons they made a smaller cheaper one that fits kids hands and easier on the parents wallet. I’m looking forward to getting the oled model that actually fits an adults hands much more comfy. I’m stoked to try this bad boy out.
I didn’t buy the Switch until the OLED model released. I was waiting for a more powerful model of the Switch, but I decided to settle for the OLED model when it became clear that we are not going to get a more powerful one. I have an OLED TV as well, so I don’t know what it’s like to play it on a screen that is not OLED.
Inside, Fast RMX, Alien Isolation, Outlast, FEZ, Quake, Sayonara Wild Hearts… I rediscover all this games again thanks to the OLED and I play much more Handheld now.
I was the same. Refused to upgrade but got an opportunity to sell my old Switch for 1/3 of the OLED price and took the offer. It's made me play Switch again. Haven't touched my PC or PlayStation since. If you have the money to splurge, I'd go for it. If you are tight on money it's definitely not worth it.
Don't be a plonk. If your og works fine stick with it. Hardly much of an upgrade tbh it's still a shitty 720 blur screen. Wait for a real upgrade or if the og dies.
I'm really liking the oled, its funny because I never played much in handheld before I got it. Now I want to play handheld all the time lol. Looking at a sunrise or sunset in botw on the oled switch is amazing. I gotta try more games on it!
Loving my switch OLED. Tecmo Bowl looks good too. Nothing like running the opposite side of the field and running the ball for a TD with Bo Jackson on OLED screen
it went from "this upgrade is a joke for a console" to "OLED is pretty damn great!" ngl... i want one. but I just have a gut feeling in a year there will be another switch. (if they make a OLED lite id be down)
Same! I play in handheld 99% of the time and I'm also an illustrator and colorist for a living, so I notice every little difference in clarity, color saturation and contrast on the OLED compared to my launch day Switch. Gorgeous!!
@@Kraken54321 Oh yes I'm definitely noticing the improvement in battery life as well. Every time I press Home to check my battery because I think I'll need to plug it in soon, I'm only at around 50% instead of 15-20%.
Retro/2D graphical games in general look great on OLED, even the 2D styles on Mario Maker 2. Also, glad that Jon mentions Thumper here, that game is just awesome in general. lol
I haven’t had much time playing games on my OLED other than Metroid Dread and Smash, as I’ve been preoccupied replaying the KH games after Sora’s announcement in Smash. That being said, once I’m finished, I definitely plan to try out a couple of games on it.
Many mentioned MH Rise but Stories 2 looks fantastic as well! I'd also mention NMH3, Iconoclasts, Celeste, Fast RMX, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, Blaster Master Zero, Cross Code, MMZ collection, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Jon Cartwright has a trachea made of gold, one of the best voices I've heard. Belongs on a list with James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman, Sam Elliott, Stephen Fry, Patrick Warburton, David Attenborough, and Jeremy Irons. Nintendo Life are lucky to have him.
Thanks for mentioning this one!!! I am new to Nintendo Switch all together but love Super Meat Boy so I will be checking this out. Be nice have something portable and looked at switch and oled and oled more money but seems totally worth it.
I would recommend buying an oled. Though bear in mind that I am one of few people who like SMBF and have 280+ hours on it. The majority of people think it is fine so being a fan of the original is not a guarantee for liking forever. I really like the original as well, but it is hard being passionate about a game like SMBF when everyone seems to dislike it. Worth mentioning it is an auto runner. The game is on sale for like four dollars right now so get it on sale, because the price is just insanely low when a sale hits.
This is just a showcase for the OLED model. In reality, virtually every single games looks better on this new screen. We’d be watching a super long video if he highlighted every single game.

@@Omarized160 that's what I'm thinking. My switch still work fine.
Jon, you did her real dirty so you need to make another video just to talk about how AMAZING Bayonetta 2 looks on the OLED
Me and my brother wish there was Tecmo Super Bowl. Best football game ever.
Thanks for showing - it'll be a while before i can get an Oled - this is just Gorgeous to see.
He says darkness so much i would think he’s talking about kingdom hearts
Take a drink every time my dude says “bursting”
Or Black?
🤣🤣🤣
I imagine Super Mario Sunshine would look beautiful on that Oled screen
Just picked up Ori games and omg they’re incredible and beautiful! I don’t normally play platform games but this is an experience I of itself.
it went from "this upgrade is a joke for a console" to "OLED is pretty damn great!"
ngl... i want one. but I just have a gut feeling in a year there will be another switch. (if they make a OLED lite id be down)
Finally decided to upgrade to the OLED model. Got my switch today and am excited to play Octopath along with eastward!
I thought he was bluffing about the screen. I just got my OLED today, trust me this man tells no lie, this screen is beautiful
It was well worth the upgrade to the OLED in my opinion. 👍
Same! I play in handheld 99% of the time and I'm also an illustrator and colorist for a living, so I notice every little difference in clarity, color saturation and contrast on the OLED compared to my launch day Switch. Gorgeous!!
@@kriscynical plus my 2017 battery was shocking.
@@Kraken54321 Oh yes I'm definitely noticing the improvement in battery life as well. Every time I press Home to check my battery because I think I'll need to plug it in soon, I'm only at around 50% instead of 15-20%.
@@kriscynical 👍 Happy Gaming. 😊
@@Kraken54321 Yeah! I'm excited to get myself one for Christmas. 💅
I'm really glad that I'm upgrading to OLED and I don't regret at all
I just got mine today and I am absolutely obsessed with it! No switch 2 for me I'm sticking with my amazing OLED!
Dang, I kinda want an OLED now. Thanks Jon.
Overlooked the Oled but now I want to get one :)
Retro/2D graphical games in general look great on OLED, even the 2D styles on Mario Maker 2.
Also, glad that Jon mentions Thumper here, that game is just awesome in general. lol
They made the game card impossible to open unless you have long fingers nails. This inconvenience seems intentional to push more digital.
I have no problems with it 🤔
Origami King is the best in the trilogy of Paper Mario games after Super. Gonna give it a critical second look on the OLED
I'd also mention NMH3, Iconoclasts, Celeste, Fast RMX, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, Blaster Master Zero, Cross Code, MMZ collection, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World
I don't have an OLED switch but I feel like Gris would pop on the OLED, Valfaris as well....
Lumines is pretty great on the OLED as well
Hotshot Racing looks awesome. The colours just pop!
i don't need it....i don't need it....i definitely don't need it...
IIIIIIIII NEEEEEEEEED IIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't warrant spending 300+ if you already have one. Don't waste Ur money
@@martillery I KNOW T_T
Having games looking better on the OLED, is still not enough convincing for me to spend $539 AUD on this new model.
Are the fingerprints included for free, or do they come as part of the new online expansion pack? 😁
One I found looks amazing that you didn't mention was Final Fantasy 10. And pokemon lets go for crazy vibrant colours
“This game looks particularly sharp, so much pure black”
“Jon, that’s a tar pit”
Super meat boy forever has a lot of silhouette levels, meaty and impactful sound effects and lots of colors. It is a perfect game for the oled.
Bioshock looks amazing, the start in the water after the plane crash then going down the lift into the ocean, wow
I’m surprised Monster Hunter Rise isn’t on this list.
This is just a showcase for the OLED model. In reality, virtually every single games looks better on this new screen. We’d be watching a super long video if he highlighted every single game.
Tokyo Mirage session looks great
What about Xenoblade DE and 2?
