      I actually feel the ohlin is better for tuneability, essentially you have smaller increments, where as the fox you cant adjust much once you're at your weight limit...for example on my 40's i have like 5psi to play with before its too hard or too soft. I would imagine the ohlin would be like 10-12psi so you get a much finer tune

    Great video. Fair to say that adding tokens in the Air side, will reduce the available travel of the fork by limiting the Air volume...!? so I guess that Öhlins does manage the ''end pressure'' without limiting the travel (air volume) of the fork with their different design or not !?

      Which versions of forks did you ride and which brand did you prefer?

    • @BrandonViani
      @BrandonViani Рік тому +22

      @@Polemicist_ I prefer Ohlins overall despite the price. I do believe though that aggressive trail or park riding is where Ohlins shines most. Before I tried Ohlins I’ve had/ridden Rockshox Lyrik, Zeb (an excellent fork!) and Boxxer as well as Fox 34, 36 and 38. The main difference between the others to me was that although Fox and Rockshox are softer off the top, Ohlins has a more noticeable and more confidence inspiring mid-stroke support ie the suspension feels like it’s always there (especially on jumps and drops), was easier to find an adjustment that works as Ohlins uses a design approach called “usable range” which results in it being almost difficult to find a setting that doesn’t work on an Ohlins and finally, has a progressivity ramp adjustment chamber instead of using annoying tokens.

      Thank you so much for the insight. I am kind of new to Mountain biking. But I have a lower quality brand of fox on right now. ( rhythm ) . I have been reading a lot about the Ohlins forks and Shocks. Your comments are definitely making me go towards Ohlins. Also, I think it would look really awesome on my turbo levo, which is all black with yellow grips, yellow pedals, and yellow stem from Pembree.

    • @BrandonViani
      @BrandonViani Рік тому +1

      @@shawnstradwick5637 yeah that would look sharpe! Although the Fox Rhythm is a great value fork (supposedly having the same internals as the Marzocchi Bomber) and won’t hold you back at all, if you have the margin in your budget, the Ohlins is simply next-level. Also Ohlins forks are on sale all over the place right now eg JensonUSA, etc. The Ohlins RXF36 would likely be the upgrade from your Rhythm.

    Let me know when you can tweak the feel of a Grip2 like you can the Ohlins with it's triple chamber design. I can easily add or remove a bit of pressure at the bottom of the fork in seconds, and I can even go stepwise up and down in tiny increments. Impossible to do on a stock Fox fork

      Yer we’ve tried both ways. If you want it more supple off the top it’s good but accelerates the fork into the mid stroke so pros and cons. Personally I prefer the fork to ride a little higher so I leave mine in on the 38.

    Fork for best repetitious small bump sensitivity. Like the old unmatched Citoen DS which i drove for several years. What fork delivers like that? I'm no bikeparker, i have long travel suspension mostly for comfort (180mm). But in my opinion: the problem is that bicycles do not have enough mass, which let's any stickslip effects in the suspension/dampingsystem get prominent. With the same suspension/dampingsystem and more vehiclemass and of corse more pressure the stick effects would not grow or not grow in the same way but the forces which are acting on the system so in summa the impact of the friction would get less, like: a small bump acts with more fore on a heavier vehicle like the same bump would on a featherweight one.

    • @anthonywalters7434
      @anthonywalters7434 Рік тому +1

      I’d recommend looking into a coil conversion for your current fork. Push and Vorsprung both make a lot of aftermarket kits. Running a coil tends to have better small bump sensitivity but less progression when compared to an air sprung fork. Marzocchi makes a Z1 Coil that’s pretty good as well. I have my Fox Performance 38 set up at 22% sag and slightly slower rebound than recommended and fully open compression, it handles chatter and big hits very well at that setup without much compromise on either end.
