Oh man, what an absolutely brilliant episode - great picks, great chat, and great length cos that got me through a couple of journeys!! Really enjoyed hearing about all of em and love your passion for em. Cheers gents! - bedgell
yeah the popsicle part was great, I'd have killed my roommate lol. Awesome podcast here, I'm a big SLX fan and it's always a pleasure listening to him discussing Saturn games.
The stories are the best part! Mel's tale about what his friend did to him in Decathlete had me in giggle fits. Definitely hope to see a continuation of this topic with you three. 😊
Same! I think FF7 is so well remembered is because it was a lot of people's first real jrpg. That plus the awesome for the time cg cutscenes made for this new epic experience.
@@johnellis3383 I'm still haunted by seeing 5 new copies of Saga in Elctronics Boutique in Blackpool back in the day. I already had it and knew how awesome it was but everyone were like Playstation zombies in those days - same thing happened a few years later with Shenmue 2 just sitting there. SEGA were so awesome - they didn't fail, gamers failed.
What an inspiring chat! Inspired me to play Dragon Force next time in a less cheap way. I cheese the enemies and build Dragon armies! I'm guilty as charged
Hey Dan, I remember reading your letter titled "It's A Tragedy" about Panzer Dragoon Saga in an issue of SSM back in the day (in fact I'm looking at it right now!). The response that Lee Nutter gives was quite amusing as well!
😂😂😂 I can see where Mel is coming from, he was expecting a third on-rail shooter that expended on Zwei and made even more use of Saturn’s power. Whereas the action/RPG element grabbed me the second I tried that first disc on Sega Saturn Magazine. I remember calling Gameplay to pre-order it 20 minutes into that first disc, everything about it just hit the spot; the music, the setting, the battle mechanics, the graphics.
Cheers for the mini shout out there James. Still not apologising for the train controller though! 😂 Oh man I loved the look of Astal as the one issue of SSM I had showed it off nicely. Took a very long time before I realised it didn't come out here! Mel's story about Athlete Kings/Decathlete was hilarious 😂 Fighters Megamix WAS the Saturn's best fighter in my opinion. It had the straight lace brawler of VF with the more bonkers silly characters and nostalgia roots. Perfect in my opinion. If was quite funny with James and Deep Fear where he said Sega put the fingers up to Capcom for not releasing RE2 because that's exactly what sega did in the 80s with the sg1000/mk 3/MS 😂 Some absolutely fantastic comments there guys. Really enjoyed this one and congrats on passing 8k!
Loved Athlete Kings but have to say Winter Heat was my favourite. Always set XYZB+C for power and my thumb on A ready for ACTION. Amazing fun. The PS2 versions just don't feel right so still a Saturn exclusive for me! I ended up getting a PS1 as games dried up and wanted to play Tomb Raider 2 and RE2. But the Saturn was still my number one. I call the PS3 Sony's Saturn. Premium gear!
So many amazing excluives on the saturn, galactic attack, baku baku, shining the holy ark, shining force 3(still better then any fire emeblem), virtua on, guardian heroes and so on
I will throw in a Japanese exclusive RPG, Cyber Doll. Total banger of a battle system. I needed a guide that translates the story, but you read RPGs anyways.
I was trying to find a good condition copy of legend of oasis last year for lord x at too many games show in philly. All those vendors and only found 2. One was beat up and the other was way to much.
Games like astal, panzer dragoon 1, 2, last bronx and decathletes in the mid 90s would've been impossible to have a 1:1 port on the ps1. Unable to port on the jaguar, 3do, sega 32x and 32xcd.

Weird Zwei never gets much love from SEGA. I'd buy a PD trilogy remaster collection in a heartbeat.
The PD1 remaster wasn't that popular so..
Wish Sega would put out a Sega Saturn Mini or digital collection of SS games

This is great gents, really enjoyed the Athlete King content, it made me laugh.

Very true Dragon Force, its one of the best of that generation, in that game it was just missing a small tutorial to learn how to recruit or attack
love SLX's energy when he gets passionate
Panzer Dragoon Saga had me saying this game is better than FF7, I had both and remember feeling that way.
I still do! That music. Everything so atmospheric there's nothing else quite like it.
PDS is so much better than FFs
Same! I think FF7 is so well remembered is because it was a lot of people's first real jrpg. That plus the awesome for the time cg cutscenes made for this new epic experience.

I will say FF7 is a better RPG, but I enjoy Panzer Dragoon Saga more.

DF is one of the best games on the system, I put tons of time in it back in the day.
I was just playing Dragon Force earlier today!@@Lonewolfz24

Thanks for another cracking episode lads
Sega Lord X's face when The Segaholic brings up Panzer Dragoon Saga though...

Shining Force 3, it is the best exclusive in SS!!
I have a feeling that one will pop up in part 2! - James.
The best out of the shining series.

A clipper lighter was the ultimate tool for playing any button bashing athletics game! 😂
So many amazing excluives on the saturn, galactic attack, baku baku, shining the holy ark, shining force 3(still better then any fire emeblem), virtua on, guardian heroes and so on
Yeah, there’s so many that we’ll need to do another two of these shows. 😂 - James.
this was a good episode! Thank you!
First Comment! Thank you SegaGuys and SegaLordX!
