I've always had a fear of the unsettling eas noises when I first heard them. To this day bring 16 years old, I am still somewhat scared of them. But I watch videos on the noises to get more use to them so that I'm aware of the sound.
The noises still send chills down my spine, even when I know they're coming. When younger, they'd sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night when I didn't turn off the TV before falling asleep. But hey, the EAS accomplished their goal. It definitely gets your attention.
It's supposed to be a tone that is clear to identify and not to be hidden by other sounds. That's why it's so horrible as it's not supposed to be a normal or common sound
Anybody that works or has worked as a first responder, in any capacity, these alerts hold an entirely different feeling for us. If it's a true emergency situation, it just means a real craptastic day for us and any patient's we get.

To be honest, when these Alerts came on PBS Kids Shows when I was a toddler, I didn't find them scary. I found them confusing and annoying because they were interrupting my favorite TV shows. Now I think they are scary to hear in any TV broadcast.

I got an alert when I was 13 yrs. It was when we were parked at a highway rest stop/gas station when my phone went off with a message. It was saying to go hide in a secure place due to a tornado in the area. I ended panicking, I am easily scared, so I was in tears when I saw the word tornado. I also have poor geological placement, so I didn't know where we were exactly. Luckily, there was a ambulance at a gas pump by us and my sister went and asked them about the location of where the tornado was going to touch down. We were only a few miles away and after we used the bathroom we left, even though the tornado wouldn't head in our direction. We still saw some effects of the tornado, like the sky being dark as night and rain, thankfully we never experienced the tornado, but still scares me to think we nearly did.
Same thing with me when on a car trip the clouds were so dark and when the lighting was flashing it showed the tornadoe at the distant it wasn’t big, but dalm ,it was scary

One time, we had extreme storms all day. At about 7:00, I was watching TV in my room and my iPhone played that emergency alert sound for a tornado warning. I have always been terrified of tornadoes, so you can imagine me being terrified when I looked out my window and saw all of the skies were very dark. When I was little, I used to sleep with my TV on and these alarms would come in the middle of the night. I would wake up hella scared , I hate that noise.
In retrospect it makes sense why the EAS is creepy, the EAS (emergency alert system (the tool used to broadcast the alerts)) is designed to get alerts out as quick as possible , even if it comes at a creepy cost. And the harsh tones at the beginning/end are encoded with alert info and info on where the message should go, so you best believe they aren't going to change it any time soon.
Even though the broadcast alerts are supposed to cause distress and stuff to get people to listen in the US, it would be mad nice if our alerts could sound like that omfggg-

I live in Hawaii. And I can easily say that the missile alert was one of the most terrifying moments in my life. I panicked and closed all the windows and brought my cat inside. The worst part was waiting and knowing that there was nothing I could do (we would only have 15 minutes until the missile would hit). I texted my family and hoped for the best. I had an awful anxiety/panic attack. Gotta love living in Hawaii, nuke warnings and volcanoes ;,)

To be honest, when these Alerts came on PBS Kids Shows when I was a toddler, I didn't find them scary. I found them confusing and annoying because they were interrupting my favorite TV shows. Now I think they are scary to hear in any TV broadcast.

I remember a few years ago, my friends had stayed over and we were up late so we were extremely tired in the morning, we got an amber alert saying that something happened to the nuclear power plant not too far from us and we probably needed to evacuate, but we were so tired that we ignored it and went back to sleep. A few hours later we got another alert saying it was a false alarm 😞

I got an alert when I was 13 yrs. It was when we were parked at a highway rest stop/gas station when my phone went off with a message. It was saying to go hide in a secure place due to a tornado in the area. I ended panicking, I am easily scared, so I was in tears when I saw the word tornado. I also have poor geological placement, so I didn't know where we were exactly. Luckily, there was a ambulance at a gas pump by us and my sister went and asked them about the location of where the tornado was going to touch down. We were only a few miles away and after we used the bathroom we left, even though the tornado wouldn't head in our direction. We still saw some effects of the tornado, like the sky being dark as night and rain, thankfully we never experienced the tornado, but still scares me to think we nearly did.

Same thing with me when on a car trip the clouds were so dark and when the lighting was flashing it showed the tornadoe at the distant it wasn’t big, but dalm ,it was scary

One time, we had extreme storms all day. At about 7:00, I was watching TV in my room and my iPhone played that emergency alert sound for a tornado warning. I have always been terrified of tornadoes, so you can imagine me being terrified when I looked out my window and saw all of the skies were very dark. Luckily, there was no tornado, but I think that was the most scared I have been while home alone.

During an assembly at my school a couple months ago, everyone’s phones went off with emergency alerts at the same time warning us of a fire evacuation nearby, ironically during a performance by a classmate of mine where they were singing the Dr. Strange song about the universe ending. Didn’t help that every light but the spotlight was off when it happened.

In retrospect it makes sense why the EAS is creepy, the EAS (emergency alert system (the tool used to broadcast the alerts)) is designed to get alerts out as quick as possible , even if it comes at a creepy cost. And the harsh tones at the beginning/end are encoded with alert info and info on where the message should go, so you best believe they aren't going to change it any time soon.

I live in Hawaii. And I can easily say that the missile alert was one of the most terrifying moments in my life. I panicked and closed all the windows and brought my cat inside. The worst part was waiting and knowing that there was nothing I could do (we would only have 15 minutes until the missile would hit). I texted my family and hoped for the best. I had an awful anxiety/panic attack. Gotta love living in Hawaii, nuke warnings and volcanoes ;,)
