with the cartoons that we do on our channel the issue is beyond annoying. spending months on a single 2d animated video only for it to get either demonetized or set to "made for kids" is infuriating. they should really find a way to let more channels give additional context and or whitelist a channel when it's proven to be safe.
As someone who has watched you for awhile, there are far worse things that advertisers have advertised/are advertising, your videos are all cartoon violence. Also, You specifically state that the videos are not made for kids. There is no reason you should be demonetized. UA-cam needs a competitor and soon.
UA-cam's thing with videos made for kids makes no sense. they have a platform just for kids yet they still get bothered about normal videos
also love the animations
Helluva boss probably makes all its money from merch sales because everyone can see that the content is more adult 😅
Hey it’s cas! Wild that you watch CS too
That sucks man
It is horrid. One woman I know got demonitized for "firearms". She's as family friendly as it gets, lifestyle, fashion, British daily life with her tiny daighters. All she can figure is she was dancing out in the garden one day, and she did "finger guns" as she danced. I mean wtf.
don't worry some poeple got demonstized for "animal violence" when they destroyed keyboard from pc

So not only should we make youtube a swear word, we should consider it derogatory and offensive term against non-native english speakers. Given that seems to be who they are targeting at this point.
I accept this proposition. refer to "youtube" as "y**tube" or "you****" (or "the y word" if you're feeling conservative) from now on
While I appreciate the linguistic change for increased accuracy, I would not appreciate how it would discourage videos like these that are critical of UA-cam, as they would be demonetized.
Happenings like these are so youtube
@@NightChime i mean people can just put little effort into videos criticizing youtube so that there won't be much loss when it gets demonitized
Rtgame has started doing this after his year end stream competition was demonetized and the other videos were retroactively demonetized for not following the rules made after the changes to guidelines
Ah yes, driving. Too intense for advertiser. I'm sure they'll shit their pants when they find out there are ads on billboards literally everywhere around roads

If Jardon says that "he's pretty annoyed", that's actually means that's he's really pissed lol.
That’s the „family friendly“ filter in his head working in overdrive. =D

The worst part of situations like this to me is that it's heavily dependent on a person's pronunciation. Words like "focus" may or may not be misinterpreted by an automated system depending on the kind of accent it's trained to understand and the kind of accent the person speaking has. There is no perfect system to reliable parse out what a person is saying and whether or not it's harmful. Factors like accent, mumbling and background noise will always weigh in on what an ai picks up for captions or analysis - it's just not a perfect system for deciding whether a video contains harmful language or not.
True, but some much is uploaded every day that there is no way YT is going to have humans doing the initial review. It sucks, but it's not going to change.
Which is where the human review appeal is supposed to be the mediator, but we have seen time and time again that, if there is even a real human present (not too sure at this point), they don't actually care to do their job properly. Why waste time watching the whole video to double check, when you could take seven seconds to say it doesn't check out.
The automated system should at least pin parts of the video it has an issue with.
I don't even think that will matter. The other day I seen a video where the person spoke very clearly but UA-cam's automated subtitles choose "Roe v Zombies" for "Roe v Wade". When I seen that I could only think about how many things are going to be automatically demonetized because the system is garbage at identifying spoken words.
@@jursamaj Yeah, there really is no perfect system in that regard - it's not feasible to have constant human review. And we can see that currently the review team, if there is one, is not very thorough or considerate of context.
it's honestly both surprising that it's gotten this far and unfortunately not surprising given how youtube has been to its creators :(
Well time to move to tic tok

The thing is that UA-cam doesn't have an alternative, so they are free to do anything and we can't really do much about it since UA-cam is our only option on the market.

@@ravanalti3740what even is rumble
@@sturmifan oh stfu you know exactly what it is
Isn't a lot of this due to what the advertising companies want though? Like if UA-cam doesn't cater to the companies running ads they would just stop doing ads through youtube.
@@ravanalti3740rumble? never heard of it before.
UA-cam demonitized one of my stream vods recently, tried everything I could to keep it up only to realize that the first 10 seconds where the big problem.
Those 10 seconds where a recording of a salamander yawning
Ah yes, the 'Scunthorpe Problem'. Automation is so prevalent that even when it makes a mistake, support teams will be biased to agree with it, because that's less resistance than going against it. There are challenges making automation context aware, but if human reviewers are just going to automatically agree with it, it's almost worse than not being present at all.
Even when UA-cam is repeatedly called out on this, they just go back to doing the same thing.
It is creating the reviewers own problem since the algo learns from their input
Always appreciate these kinds of videos, especially when they're blunt and dont dance around the point. Companies like UA-cam have done things that cause problems so often, and its to the point now that I'm happy to see people be fed up with it.
I wholeheartedly agree that a "human" doesn't check the videos, with the sheer number of videos that must be appealed daily. People with smaller channels have no way to clear these, and its atrocious on UA-cam's part. I know there's been discussion about UA-cam having a bad layout internally to deal with these things, but its still unbelievably obvious that the viewer isn't human.
I once put a 10 second clip in a video I made of My Little Pony. It was the same clip a bunch of other UA-camrs showed before without issues. I had to delete it because I couldn't remove the clip. The entire video was about the clip itself and the memes people created.
They basically forced me to delete a 10 minute long video I spent 3 months of spare time creating just because I showed a short 10 second clip that is all over UA-cam and still can be found on UA-cam.
I can see why people get fed up with UA-cam sometimes even if it's not the same reason. At least I don't make money off of UA-cam and do it all completely free for fun.
When JORDAN is the one making a video about demonitization
It's bad.
Hell yes it bad, it’s just plain horrible at this point.
After he played the first seven seconds I guessed correctly what was the issue. Re-listening it’s very easy to tell from the rest of the sentence what is being said, but if all the person is doing is listening for very particular sounds, they could make that mistake. So yeah, the system is broken.
"person"
Maybe they get their kicks from demonetizing videos.
These "human reviewers".
im sorry capitan but youtube won't do anything about it, so many other people tried to reason with them, even moist critical had a meeting with the CEO and they still didn't listen, they even came up with they're own ideas to fix it but after some time they abandoned these ideas
youtube literally hates you
YT is too busy wasting their time ruining the UI and making the UX worse and worse to make the site ugly and unusable to bother trying to improve it. 😒
@@I.____.....__...__ Thats because the majority of people going into UX are artists, and not people who know universal design and cognitive accessibility. As a person who have worked on the side with reviewing digital products and sites for the past 10 years, iv seen some absolute horrid stuff, close to completely unusable.
the most absurd part is that they dont tell you what you did, _at all,_ unless you get in contact, sometimes after several tries
It sounds like the MCC clip started with, "They're dominating, focus." As in we're getting taken to the cleaners we need to get our head in the game. As piror service Army we used, "Focus up" a lot.
what’s crazy is that no one is gonna associate a brand with swearing when the video that plays after has it. we all are so used to ads we entirely separate the two in of our brain. we know that the ad and the video are entirely unrelated. and if people are wanting to watch content with swearing the wouldn’t care if a brand was associated with that anyways.
Yeah no rational person thinks like that, but UA-cam decided to cater to a minority of irrational people and the media writing stupid rage-bait articles.
So true! Fr UA-cam should let the ccs swear instead of demonetizing for every single swear word said and make them over censor themselves and everyone who's in the vids(i.e Jordan)
Jardoon is the most self-censoring UA-camr I know, he made a point many years ago to start censoring himself and his guests to avoid demonitization... Even going so far as to literally replace profane words with the word "demonitized". UA-cam is littered with p0rno0graphy and other forms of degeneracy, but God forbid the algorithm accidentally picks up a potential curse word maybe.... Fork us all!
Exactly 😢
How is youtube filled with pornography? I rebuked that in the name of me!!!
Ok, as someone who works for a large software corporation, so I have some insight into this... UA-cam likely outsources it's human reviewers. They are asking people who's first language isn't English to try to parse out english curse words from small smaple sizes that the AI flags. It's unfair for people who collab with others, people with accents, people who misspeak, people who don't have the best audio set ups, etc.
AND, quite frankly, unfair for those outsourced workers!! Because they have tons of these to review and quotas they have to meet while making a fraction of the pay a corporation would have to offer to workers in predominantly english speaking countries.
And the reason this is outsourced in the first place? So the CEOs can pocket more money, while also showing revenue growth in a market that's been grouding out since (possibly before, thanks to AI) the pandemic hit. Gotta make those financial reports look great to investors and stock holders! Lovely. This is late stage capitalism. Expect worse to come as, AI improves cause software is cheaper than paying a human to do anything anymore.
Even GPT-4 could solve this better. So yeah, it's extremely unfair to the outsourced workers, as obviously they're getting paid less per processed token than an actual AI..
@rayisnotreal2525 I definitely don't envy anyone who has the job of moderating a social media site.
What confuses me is how a Sparklez video can get flagged for a mistaken curse word, but whole pedos are still able to post content and prey on children... UA-cam's priorities are skewed.
Isn't it biased to outsource people just because there foreign and likely cheaper workers? That would be like a hand Grenade sales man specifically going to war veterans for sales.
@@mimsydreamsUA-cam only cares about its advertisers. The contents creaters are just it's minimum wage profit margin, and the actual people using the site in there free time to watch videos, They come last.

@rayisnotreal2525 Possible, as well. I just have first-handedly witnessed people having to correct grammar in a language they weren't even fluent in, to save money.

this is literally the Scunthorpe problem, a problem from *1996*, and still plagues the internet moderation to this day.
all I can say is have some system to do the captions on your own term
bad things youtube has done . 1 removing dislikes . 2 adding to the swearing rules and violent content . 3 making number 2 go back to videos uploaded in 2007 . so now that kills any chance to play games like the last of us ( without a warning at the beginning ) 4 changing the shorts layout . aka shrinking the short when opening the comments ( 1 only on mobile 2 UA-cam CHANGE THIS BACK ) 5 letting people abuse the copyright system . youtube its not that hard to say " no copyrighting content that only has 1 second of copyrighted content ( seriously guys this can get you taken to court atleast in the u.s ) 6 everything disgust in this video . youtube needs to get it together and fire whoever made these changes
To be fair to YT here, they don't get a say in what people can and can't copyright. That's a whole different story that YT can't touch.
Also, YT needs to not be able to double up on flags. Ex: Guy was playing Dead By Daylight. For those unfamiliar, it is 1 killer vs 4 survivors. The YTber in question got flagged for 3 things. I can't remember the first, but the second was violence. This is understandable. The third was violence against women. I understand #3 is bad, but doesn't that just fall under violence? Why double up on that?
@@the_matad0r342 fair point
i understand that mistakes like this can happen with automated systems, however, i don't understand why they cannot just tell you that exact reason.
if the system detects, "this slur was said" then surely having the system tell you that would be so easy?
and even moreso for the "human" to come in and clear up the confusion if the slur in question actually is a mistake.
it is so dumb that people have to do guesswork with their paychecks because the robot cant figure out words sometimes
Cause they don't get paid for being nice, as harsh as it sounds, they will be assholes to make their days better
it's intentional, if they told you what rule you broke they wouldn't be able to censor you on a whim
I’ve had to contact their support service directly to tell them whoever is doing the ratings on my videos isn’t paying attention. I’ve had racing videos flagged for violence and profanity (when I censor everything) and all kinds of stuff that simply isn’t present in my content. Usually they put full ads on my video once they see whoever flagged my video was a goofball
Imagine having a HUMAN reviewer listening for specific things but not listen to the actual audio. An intelligent human can see he's clearly saying "Lets all remain FOCUSED"; alas when he was spoken over by the other teammate the human reviewer couldn't tell the difference between audio pitches and dialogues going on at one time.
🤣
The reviewers are mostly likely overworked and under paid
I heard "that's our main focus"
Even a non-native speaker like me can tell, even though I didn't get it was the word focus until Jardon explained that, that using the word fork doesn't make any sense in that context.
I couldn't tell what he was saying but it definitely wasn't a swear
One thing about "not suitable for ads" I have suspected for years is that a lot of advertisers don't actually benefit from most of it, and actually lose target audience, especially when it is automated bs that has forced people to use words such as "unalive". Recent Google big fail shows ever more how untransparent google schemes are to advertisers themselves.
Wondering if UA-cam could get into legal trouble if it is advertised as an actual person reviewing just to find out it isn't. Probably not, because it most likely would've been done by now, but still curious
IANAL but likely yes. I'd say breach of contract as they likely have wording to the effect of, "manual review by a human." Though if it only implies by a human instead it might be a bit more of a reach for such a tort to be violated. That's just my best guess, however.
The great thing about their system is that all the demonetized grubs don’t have the money to defend themselves. 👍
It would take a class-action of EVERYONE who has EVER been targeted like that, and it would take a rich person to even get things started.
I don’t see it happening.
a lot of youtubers have been speaking up on that issue, that should really tip them off....
they don t care, what make youtube money are song video and clip. ( there is also the problem that to many video to humanly check and as US scaredy cat they will ban all the thing in fear of add company not liking it, add company do that because they think their client would not like it, and those client don t like it because bank/ shareholder think the final customer will care ( beside the obvious karen and other "think about the children"n when in fact if there is something, chance it will be memed and give move visibility, that what old GTA game were about, creat a polemic to get people talk about the game for free), never understood US problem with the F word or nipple, natural thing and expressing no thank, but training kid to be addicted gambler on video game that OK, because it is "optionnal" ( or not for those fifa game)
sorry for the ranting
they don't care, youtube still runs ads on "limited" videos and gets their ad cut, only the creator doesn't, so really it just lets youtube take a bigger slice on certain uploads or types of content. it's intentional.
The auto caption system is a huge problem. A video should not be able to be demonized because of that.
Pretty sure the limited is just YTs excuse to take a bigger cut
especially cause its "revenue" that may not be earned. not that it might not have ads.
for me the most frustrating thing is like my last 20 vids have been determined as fine by manual review, but I'm still stuck with a "low" accuracy rating for the personal review which means most of my vids are demonetized as soon as they go up, doesn't help that the first 3 days also tend to be when most of the views happen
I literally can't improve my personal rating because the automated system keeps saying I'm wrong, it's infuriating
honestly? you know its serious when Jardon starts almost raising his voice with frustration.
So I have noticed it as well. The biggest issue I’ve seen so far is that there is zero attempt to make it better in any capacity.
UA-cam needs to communicate when and what caused a video to be limited.
Good god hearing Jordan slightly annoyed is a terror. UA-cam better watch themselves.
Hey dude, You said hi to me once as a kid in game and ive treasured that since a kid. You dont deserve the absolute mess that the youtube monetization is... I hope everything turns out well and i hope youtube hops onto this asap, Love from london! :D
I've had a handful of copyright issues recently. My VODs got claimed by a Latin-American music company that claimed the rights to Sweden (and other Minecraft in-game music), and I'm completely unable to dispute since my use case isn't covered by the dispute system.
I also, a few days ago, tried uploading a meme I made of a Family Guy clip. Fox claimed and globally blocked my video before it was even public. The clip I used was uploaded by some random user years ago, with the video still being public. The cited infringement told me I was stealing content from that scene, except the link redirected to yet another re-upload. Can't dispute, since UA-cam want my full name.
None of this is a UA-cam problem.
@@wyterabitt2149 Yeah, it kind of is. The copyright system is designed in a way where creators are forced to hand over their personal details to properly challenge a claim. Should the appeal be rejected you receive a strike, no questions asked. My video gets claimed by a large company and no one can see it, despite it being transformative, even though the unedited clip is reposted by several accounts on UA-cam already.
UA-cam is responsible for the system they implement and currently it's heavily geared in favour of the companies. It's easily abused, as seen by the Minecraft claims. Hell, a few weeks ago someone got prison time for creating a fake company to claim hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of revenue from copyright claims. The system sucks and it's 100% UA-cam to blame.
@@jckistan The copyright system is a legal requirement, dmca requires a notice is applied by the company hosting automatically and the company has no right to question it generally. It's up to the party who has been claimed against to go to court to sort out a dispute.
UA-cam actually have a system that goes further than required, which UA-cam put together for the benefit of creators. They will even overrule obvious troll claims, and legally speaking UA-cam shouldn't even do that really.
There's not a single company that will ever exist, that won't need to do at a minimum what UA-cam do now once they are big enough to become a target. UA-cam was targeted and could have been destroyed had they not developed the system they have, and convinced the big players to accept it as a compromise.
UA-cam has virtually no support to begin with. It wouldn't surprise me if humans aren't actually reviewing these cases. For example, I tried to get in contact with them about a video that associates my real name and my username because it's a doxxing hazard. They said they couldn't find the issue when I filed a complaint. I contacted them on Twitter saying that I was at risk of being doxxed and they said "sorry to hear about that!"
Unbelievable.
Strongly relate to this video appreciate you using your voice for this.
No big surprise. They still haven't really fixed the fake spam bot accounts under all the biggest channels. You can't even use creative commons music in your videos, it always gets copyright claimed. It's why I quit and purged my channels.
So either UA-cam is so scared and/or dense as to actually tell human reviewers to uphold this stuff, or they're just straight up lying about the human reviewers, and I can't tell which is worse.
This is one of those reasons that brings me back to why I don't yet have UA-cam Premium. They can't sort this silly shit out and treat their creators with respect, even some of the biggest ones who are like 99% family friendly.
I wish there were some way fir a collection of UA-camrs to come together and press UA-cam to get this “human” review issue sorted out. It’s ridiculous how blatant the lie is.
Sorry this happened to you, Captain.

Before you revealed the answer I knew the type of thing I needed to listen out for in the first 7 seconds, and even still, as a human I still couldn't determine a single syllable I thought could be taken as "bad". And what I find even more maddening is swearing isn't even bad! Everyone understands that the advert is completely unrelated to the video we're actually trying to watch, and even if you didn't know that, no-one is going to watch let's say a Coke advert and then hear the f-word 7 seconds later and say, "Okay, I'm never buying a Coke again". People just don't do that! So stupid.
UA-cam just hates swearing fr
They probably forgot to mention that the human reviewer was on sick leave and his robot colleague took over his shift
I learned a new slur today, lol. The more strict censorship becomes, the more it works against it's purpose I guess.
Major problem is that they dont give any information why or timeframe of the demonetization part and you cant figure it out yourself and as you have showed it , its manly an idiotic thing and a youtube mastake that gets people video demonetized or even take downs and you cant do anything about it .
I am convinced at this point that UA-cam doesn't want to pay people anymore and are trying their level best to backpedal on the entire concept of "monetizing" their content, so they can get out of having to pay youtubers altogether.

Idk why UA-cam's automated system does not provide content creators full transparency on why their videos get demonetized. It would solve lots of issues but who knows.
Because every big corporation doesn't care about anything but money
youtube's demonetisation and copyright system is an absolute disaster it's actually detrimental to the creators and the platform itself.
i'm glad u mentioned less popular youtubers who don't have the privilege of contacts who can help.
The system could also be generating exact clips of what it had a problem with. So if a human reviewer comes in, they dont hear any context, just "focus"
Really want to make a solution for UA-cam when I’m able to. Sick of stuff like this happening, and the content quality degradation in favor of the algorithm.

you know it's serious when someone as big as jordan says something about it
minute 11, that's the point, its always about the little guys that good bigger UA-camrs are really making videos like this for. It is so hard to start YT, they dont need other insane restrictions already before they pass the starting line.
Aw short, here we go again.
my favourite demonetization story was of a car review channel interviewing an F1 car designer that got demonitized for a "slur". what had infact happened was youtube's auto subtitles had misheard the Lesmo (i repeat Lesmo) corners at the Monza racetrack for something rather different indeed...
At this point, we're better off with making our own version of "UA-cam" where we can post videos without the worry of demonetisation or censorship.
Good luck overcoming Google actively sabotaging your platform.
Situations like this is why I really hate that automation is relied upon so heavily. It's absolute trash. It makes no sense and causes not only frustration, anxiety and anger with their creators but also costs them part of their livelihood over nothing.

It doesn't help that text on screen (Minecraft chat, Twitch Chat, etc) can also cause this.
Hell if i put the f-word or something like that IN THE COMMENTS SECTION it could demonitize this video.
Even if the video is... oh idk.. 10 YEARS OLD
Also I love how youtube is afraid of the f word in the first 7 seconds. Has youtube seen the Herowars adds they play on videos? They are basically porn.

I've been a daily vlogger since 2009. I've had one strike against a video for 'inappropriate' content. I appealed it. Why? It was a review of an LED flashlight. Their automatic system is absurd. The strike was removed.
It is truly unfortunate that UA-camrs now need to bow down to their new automated overlords and can’t even hope to contest the claims made against them, regardless of the automated claims’ accuracy.
Just had a stream vod removed for "inciting violence or hate against a group of people". My guy, I was playing Pokemon. I cant even think of what hell I could have said and they just dont let you know where the "infractions" happen.
and then there's how you can get struck for stuff in the auto generated subtitles even wen it's obviously not what was said...

I would say your right in your last vid , I don’t watch much of the Minecraft videos anymore, but will always watch through whole thing of you doing these talks. you got a good opinion having been here from the beginning
The only thing i can think of is if they outsource the human reviewing to another company with a bunch of people that barely speak english. It's certainly very odd.
As Tom Scott once said, UA-cam is not broken, the world is.
As SOON as he said Stoneblock, I knew exactly what situation was gonna be brought up.
It's really stupid that UA-cam can have a "human" listen to this audio and go "yep, demonetized." At first I could understand the confusion, but if they just listen to the first 7 SECONDS a few times, it's more and more obvious that he said "focus." UA-cam really does have a lot of broken and abused systems, but nobody can do anything about it, and it just sucks.
They really need more transparency on this
How is that going to improve anything? They'll continue using automated systems for reviewing videos, because there's no way they can afford to have humans check every video. And the more transparent they are on how their system works, the easier it gets to game the system.
That’s pretty funny when the most offensive things on UA-cam are often the ads- they are loud, manipulative and insulting, sometimes targeting hate toward specific groups of people, spreading misinformation, and trying to scam money. Even the ones from reputable nonprofits will include very disturbing images of refugee camps and things.
UA-cam is gonna be a dead platform if this keeps happening.
No, they have no competitors for people to switch to. That's why it's gotten this bad in the first place.

We must all obey UA-cam. UA-cam is our daddy! No cursing! No slight gore! Not even saying devilish words like KILL or DEATH even though it happens every day! Praise the all mighty UA-cam for keeping us safe from the horrors the outside world holds!
I miss the old days of the internet when it was the wild west and people would send porn or gore as a shock prank. People used to just learn to avoid it instead of taking it as a personal attack and crying to mega corporations, begging them to censor everything.
@@Michael-zf1ko Yeah, the internet is horribly censored now and I’m afraid this is irreversible. Now everyone is conditioned into believing all this censorship is normal and it’s the way life is supposed to be. Now it’s gotten so extreme a slur of jumbled words can be interpreted as a death threat to the president 😂
As it should be, you don't have some right to money from videos posted from advertisers.
You are free to post most things that are legal on UA-cam, swearing and everything else. You just don't have a magical right to money for it unless those paying that money (advertisers) agree with the terms of who will be paid and for what.

Most of the time its an over-enforcement of their policies, but some of the time they don't enforce the policies enough. It's genuinely sad
I guess you could start every video with a 7-second countdown?
I find this idea that advertisers actually care what videos their ads appear on patently ridiculous. No rational person is going to associate an ad appearing on a video as the advertiser endorsing the video (unless the media picks up on it and writes a rage-bait story about it). It's an ad, not a sponsorship, there is no association other than a coincidental one.
I sometimes see youtube comment on videos that have nothing to do with them. But for some reason they can’t be bothered to respond to people who are actually having issues with their app.
Also 6:51 They won’t let you talk about nuclear reactors when there’s literally an add telling British people to join the army.. The army where people *d!3*
"Human Reviewer" is an utter lie. UA-cam, what the heck.
The lack of common sense and humanity the UA-cam company is needing is just so bad than the controller submarine
Also striking is messed up. This one channel i used to watch got every single video on their channel copy right striked, which led to getting a channel strike, and then another, and then a third, and then the channel was deleted, despite them doing nothing wrong and emailing and tweeting at youtube and appealing, nothing was done and the channel was deleted.
bro looks disheveled 🙁
He usually looks like wild sheepdog when he goes too long without a haircut.
People fight for money because that's all they know. But if even just youtubers put that same energy behind the fall of the monetization system as a whole. The world would be a lot different. The fear of no money goes away faster the faster you get it done. The shift. Shifters then influencers.

Hey, you were 🥇!
Sadly, UA-cam is getting worse on issues like this and it has no intention of getting better.
I hate thinking about youtube suddenly making a small change in their tos or video ai things that could ruin so many channels. I hope a new video platform comes up as good competition soon.
I had a similar situation where my video got struck for “child endangerment” it was a beat that I had posted called “harmonics” and I put together the only cause could be “HARM-onics”
