As a EJ owner and now VB the factory EL is pretty good. I would say this is a mod for those that replace the stock turbo and want ultimate gains. If I go through the trouble of this its going to be for a UEL :) You video is great and easy to follow so big thumbs up!
I am no car expert, but I am not sure there will be such a big difference. I think replacing such parts at this stage is just fine tuning. At a certain stage of upgrades and development you will be fighting "tooth & nail" just to get five more horse power. I believe I am correct. I like the upgrade though. It looks sexy and I think at this point you may wish to consider finishing off the exhaust system like you asked in the video.
My 22 WRX was leaking oil from the valve cover gasket and possibly the spark plug tube gaskets. Subaru fixed the problem free of charge as it only had 31k miles and was under factory warranty.
You are about the 5th person to say this same thing. It is sad how many VB owners are experiencing the same oil leaks from the valve covers. Unfortunately my warrant just expired and my car has just under 37k miles on it. Something I will have to fix myself.
I had an oil leak that looked just like this. Turned out to be an upper oil pan leak. Motor had to be pulled to do the job. Subaru warranty covered it. My 22 had 58k miles on it.
Have some extra studs ready for when you do the j-pipe. I hear those ones suck too 😆 Why do the ports look smaller on the collector of the Perrin header?
I just replaced my front pipe with an Xforce front pipe on my vb with stock muffler’s and it sounds so good just the right amount of sound that I wanted ! I recommend you do yours !!
I was looking at the Xforce front pipe about 6 months ago, but wasn't sure about that brand since I have not heard of it before. How was the fitment on that front pipe during the install.
@@JDMRightHandDrive I just ordered one of these yesterday. (Front pipe and the inter pipe) lol. It's an Ozzie brand, one good thing about it, you buy the inter pipe with it which can bolt up to the stock first cat to get rid of the second cat if you want to go that route first. (So you shouldn't? get any cat codes pop up)
The fitment is perfect and super easy install also no codes been driving for a week now, it’s an Australian brand. Now I’m just waiting to receive a base map from dmann 😎
Thats cool your so close, I was just in Sahuarita today. If you know of a Subaru meet up with a group of cars that going on I would be down to show up and hang out with everyone. DM me on Instagram and let me know.
Pretty much what I've seen on a lot of WRX videos- the studs and bolts around the exhaust or turbo area snap or strip out a lot. Since you have a relationship with Perrin have you installed their steering lockdown kit yet? I'm interested in doing this on my '22 but I want to learn more about it first.
Good to know about others having issues with the studs as well. Glad to know I am not the only one. I personally have never had a stud get stuck or snap off before. It is a good learning experience for me and will at least I will know how to retap stripped threads and reseat a new stud when I am done. I still have the steering lockdown kit and a bunch of other parts I need to make install videos for. Sorry for the long wait on that video and I will be getting to that one soon. I have been delayed with content creation with the big move. Thanks for your support and more vids coming soon.
Have a new vb 2023 with 6k miles. When installing my turbo inlet hose I noticed oil leaks coming from spark plug tubes , valve cover and side cover. Was all replaced under factory warranty . Had a few friends at Subaru pull out the ignition coils out and large amounts of oil was coming out .
hey man, yes i have had oil leaks on my 2023 subaru wrx VB. its coming from my passenger side valve cover gasket or spark plug tube seal. i hear that a lot of vbs are coming faulty from the factory with spark plug tube seals or valve cover gaskets. then another thing thats faulty is the throw out bearing. my clutch slightly vibrates upon engagement. definitely makes me saddened, but i love my VB so much. 😭 once these repairs get taken care of, she’s healthy
Thanks for your response and insight into the oil leak issues. Hopefully you can get your valve cover replaced under the factory warranty. My warranty is expired on my car since I have 36,600 miles on the odometer now. I am sad to hear about your throw out bearing. Best of luck with you VB, I am still loving mine as well. Thanks for watching Joey.
Thanks for your insight Joey, I picked up a new OEM Subaru stud yesterday. I have a tap and die set and will be cleaning up the threads to reseat the new stud. Fingers crossed I can get her and fix my exhaust leak.
get that stud installed. you can warp the flange on either side and they are both BAD to have warped and will cause exhaust leaks. i know from experianse
I think a JPipe is needed if you want to hear the turbo more, IMO headers are more of a marginal hp gain kind of mod. Unless you go UEL for sound. Good video nonetheless Josh!
I never changed my MC, my car and braking feels perfect IMO, so no need to create an extra project. Maybe I should drive a new TR and see if I notice the difference and maybe in the future, this could be a project I go for.
my pass side is leaking too. i’m suspicious it’s the valve cover as well. did you get it covered under warranty or did the job yourself? another thing that’s faulty on these cars are the throw out bearing. i feel vibration upon engagement with my clutch. 2023 vb
I have a feeling my valve cover is also leaking on the passenger side. I will have to look into some more. Thanks for sharing and this information will be helpful into helping my diagnose the source of the oil leak.
I wish I would have noticed the oil leak sooner. My car is at 37k miles now. Looks like I will have to fix the passenger side valve cover leak myself unfortunately.
I believe your WRX is your primary ride. Aren't you ever concerned with having issues with the bolts that your primary ride might become "down" for a bit?
The boxer rumble is definitely a sound that I miss hearing and something the the VB WRX lacks. I miss the sounds from all my old WRX's. Got the tap kit and stud ordered up. I am going to give it a go myself next Thursday.
@@JDMRightHandDrive good deal! You don’t want to warp the mounting plate. I have an amazing sound clip of my setup of you’re interested. P&L catted J-pipe with Remark resonated Bosno pipes. I’ve had quite a few heads turn due to the sound.
Julia actually shot about 3 or 4 shots on this video. She does have trouble keeping the camera steady, so I tend to have her start/stop recording with my camera on a tripod.
I don't really see the point, esp. or $1,000 bucks. The OEM opening from the head is bigger. As a tech or 25 years, I've never seen any of those gimmick bolt oils to work. Not one. And, they stink like hell, esp. WD40. WD40 was designed to be a water displacement barrier for rockets. It was never meant to loosen rusted bolts, nor does it. ATF works better than anything when it comes to the torque needed to loosen a stuck bolt. Mix some ATF with acetone works best.

Check the gasket above the oil catch tank. 2 longer 10mm's hold it in. Seen a leak from there
Good idea for sure, I will check that out.
Awsome vid Josh thanks

Coming from an fa20 guy I suggest you replace the stud with ARP for the headers and jpipe.
Good idea. I will have to find the part number and order up some ARP hardware.

I say pick up a tap and die set and chase the threads to clean them up. Then try and thread the stud back in or get a new stud to thread in

How are your oil temps now? I read some people have higher oil temps after a header install.
I think a JPipe is needed if you want to hear the turbo more, IMO headers are more of a marginal hp gain kind of mod. Unless you go UEL for sound. Good video nonetheless Josh!

Off topic but did you do the 2024 master cylinder swap yet? wondered how it would change the feel with the 6 piston swap.

My turbo started leaking at 28k miles. Reverted it to stock, rolled a D20 dice 😂 and Subaru replaced it 😮💨
Nice work! Glad to hear Subaru got you taken care of. My car just cracked 37k miles, so no warranty left for me.
These cars are known for valve cover gasket leaks. My drivers side had a leak dealership took care of

You should get and install a nice turbo system for my V6 Mustang. lol
That would be one heck of a job to install a turbo kit on a non turbo car. It might be beyond my skill set.
Miss you!
Miss you too brother, we will hang out soon.
I believe your WRX is your primary ride. Aren't you ever concerned with having issues with the bolts that your primary ride might become "down" for a bit?

It's a really waste of money to replace headers in subaru
Definitely do the Jpipe. And ignore everyone that says "UEL"
power > sound
Yes for sure power and sounds, equal length offers superior efficiency. Thanks for watching.
@@maverick8331 no way!
Just re-tap it yourself. You may need the kit for the j-pipe. Your car sounds ok but I am biased to UEL. I will never go back.
