I'm the old artist who usually prints out her reference. But have been trying to do the laptop screen thing. You reminded me that it's always easier with a ref you can hold in your hand. The printed refs end up completely destroyed with the drips and spills and things, I put them in a special file. Oh yeah, JUST DO THE OILS!! I painted with acrylics for many many years, now I know if you want it to look like oils, just do the oils.
This might have just convinced me to switch to oils! Thank you!!
In art school we weren't allowed to use our references digitally we were required to print it out. A screen is making it's own light, while a physical photo is color with the light reflecting off of it.

I LOVE the skull painting! And seriously the green edges make me so happy lol 💚
Colors in the painting are awesome, the pinks and purples really pop out and make you want to know more, but the greens are also intensely good. It's a skull then 👍😂 thought could have been a shell or an elaborate wrap/fabric.

This was indeed a short reprieve for me as my dad was just diagnosed with cancer (he’s my best friend) I’m an artist but have not felt inspired to paint this last week since the news of it all. It's easier to blend the paint and have softer edges when the paint remains wet for a long time! Regular acrylic paint dries really fast which can be an advantage if you use a lot of layers, but I like to be able to mix a color and keep using it! I also live in a really dry climate so the dryness can be a challenge! There's pros and cons!

I'm so happy when you upload a new video! It motivates me a lot to paint for myself (although I study visual arts haha) but it's so hard for me to sit down and say I'm going to do something that's not for college. Also the painting of the skeleton look fantastic!

I haven’t done ceramics since HS and I miss it so much. It has always been a dream to own a wheel and a kiln, as working clay is so relaxing. Good for those of us with ANXIETY. Thanks for this. 🤗

Never thought to take art to a professional studio to get pics of it. Going to steal that idea because you're so right, taking pictures of canvas is a nightmare.

To keep the paint wet longer, put a rolled up paper towel soaked with water and place it inside before putting on the lid. Mine lasts a long time that way.
I saw six geese in flight as I was out this morning and immediately thought of the sticker. Life imitates art.
That painting is AMAZING! You've made me want to give mediums a try with my acrylics. Oil paint is so toxic and gives me such a headache when I work in it. Plus you need so much ventilation.

I love everything you're doing! It's so inspiring! Also, if you're interested in oils you should try water mixable oils. It simplifies the process SOOOO much. I will say, in relation to acrylics, the dry time is DRASTICALLY longer. It's nice to have a little extra time to work with your paint but I find having to wait days between layers can feel a bit oppressive. Anyway, thanks for the content! Your channel is quickly rising to the top of my favorites list.

i didnt realise i already follow your insta til i looked it up after watching haha this video was so nice and calming 🐉 i usually paint with oil paints but have been in an eternal art slump & through the first half of the vid i was all “ooh maybe i should try out acrylics” fun that you then considered the opposite!

I love the big skull painting. Love it. Yeah some colors aren't photo reproducible. Blues are hard. So are fluorescents.
