Glad you talked about not copying Snoopy's likeness directly. I don't think you're taking IP theft too seriously at all. I wish more artists talked about it. We wouldn't like if others used our art and characters without proper licensing. Just because a character is well known, we shouldn't forget that the people who created those characters are artists too.

Oh gods the sadness... I've been feeling it too. I think all artists are suffering right now, not only because of the economy going to shit and everything but also because we are hypersensitive beings by nature, it's that sensitivity that urges us to create. Since so many things seem wrong with the world right now, it really takes a toll on your mental health and then on top of that you add personal struggles, so yeah, the sadness is unavoidable.
During the hiking vlog part, when the guy pointed his camera at ''the'' camera, i smiled as if posing for his picture. Loved that immediate impulse, it made me laugh at myself. Thanks for all the feel-good videos you post even if you're feeling sad :( Also those bird holding up the chain of bows is so freaking adorable!

If you didn't tell us you felt sad I would've never guessed it. Sad to hear you're feeling that way, but I'm glad you are sharing this, because it makes me feel more normal to hear that you too can feel that way. Your vlogs are amazing and it makes my day when I get notified of the new one. It's incredible how you can make us, on this side of the screen, feel close to you and share little pieces of your life and art. It's better than any tv show because it's real and your life seems magical from here. Can't wait for the next one. Wishing you many happy moments in December!

GORL, YOUR CINEMATOGRAPHY IS EVERYTHING!
It is very important to consider copyright law when designing art for publication/sale, ESPECIALLY when you're making it for another person or company. It's a good idea to take that step to make your art "legally distinct" to protect yourself and your client. It's basically never legal to copy someone else's character design (or other designs) unless they give specific permission. Some companies have said publicly that they allow fan art in various forms, but by default all copyright is protected. There are some exceptions for fair use, but fair use has VERY specific requirements and most fan art does not fit within those definitions. In the end, the more aggressive companies (disney, nintendo, etc.) will send cease and desists, DMCA takedowns, etc. even in cases where you could argue that it was fair use, and it would fall to you to prove it to a court. Though, in most cases it does not get that far. A cease and desist is typically the first step, and if you were to simply take down the infringing art that would be the end of it.
It's also a widespread myth that if you aren't *selling* the art, copyright doesn't apply, but this is not true. Publishing art for people to view for free is still copyright infringement, you're just less likely to get targeted by companies if you don't have an obvious income stream that they can get a cut of if you don't comply.
It's a wild world out there, and I wish more artists took the time to learn about copyright because it is so important. You can also flip that knowledge around for yourself -- if other people are using your art, your designs, that is protected too.

Hiii! I’m a graphic designer and I’ve always wondered too how people get away with selling merch based off Snoopy and other characters because you are correct, it is definitely not legal. The rule is the design needs to be changed by 30%. That’s pretty subjective, buuut duplicating the character and adding in your own background does not count.

Copyrights do expire. Each year, certain things expire and come up for public domain. This is why you will see lots of Winnie the Pooh right now. Many Agatha Christie novels will be turned into movies and shows, some of her works are now public domain.

I so appreciate the honesty around the snoopy and peanut inspired merch. you're not overthinking it at all and I find it weird too.
Might I suggest checking the public domain of works that come up each year with expired copyrights. Great way for artists to use notable works and like images legally.

You’re doing the right thing in regards to Snoopy. It is wrong to do any kind of merch, like what you see at conventions with all the fan art. The copyright infringement so rampant that it’s hard to enforce. Where it gets on their radar is if the merch is too successful. Or one does something dumb like putting it on Etsy and making it easily searchable. Know if it were fully enforced, it would shut down every artist alley at every convention in America.

I always get so excited when you post a new vlog !! You’re my favorite Ytuber by far. I appreciate how realistic you are about life…truly made me feel better because October and November were kinda all over the place for me emotionally as well. I also have been struggling with my art to find a flow to it! Not even in regards to art block but just, trying to find my own artistic vision as well as believe in it AND execute it. It’s a complex and multifaceted process and yet seemingly so simple at the same time! Hearing you talk about not finding your flow with art lately made me feel a lot better. Anyways, on a small side note, I really enjoyed the cinematography of this vid!
