Excellent! This is a great demonstration of this fundamental studio skill. While many artists today choose not to use animal-derived sizing like the hide glue we see here, some still prefer the superior tension and stiffness it imparts. A stiff sizing like rabbit skin glue keeps canvas flat (promotes planar stability) after the initial stretch "relaxes". Not every acrylic gesso works equally well over hide glue, so artists should test their preferred brand to make sure it doesn't split or craze. Valerie has applied her glue as a gel, which is less prone to excessively shrinking canvas compared to applying it as a hot liquid. Even if you will be applying glue as a liquid, if it's not fresh stock, it's a good idea to test a spoonful on a plate or saucer to make sure it forms a gel, because that is a good way to prove the glue strength.

@@valerielin It’s fascinating to me how we can all be so easily mesmerized with certain things. I think art and music lend themselves well to that. Both are such ancient and powerful forms of expression! I finished my book about a month ago and just completed the editing a couple days ago! Now I need to work on publication. I decided that while I work through all that, I’d go ahead and start the sequel! I started writing that just this morning! 😃 I’m loving the quiet and peaceful life of being a writer! ☺️ Thank you for asking!

Just realized that your wall in the room is filling up with your pictures...and more I look at it, more I am sure that once the wall is full, you schould make a one-wall-exhibition, like 15 paintings show room out of it! The world is so ready to see it and be amazed by them...🥰
Over the last weekend, I had been working on a painting and it happened to be very peaceful and quiet and I noticed the sound of my paintbrush on the canvas. You could hear every stroke, different than a pencil. I thought to myself how soothing it was and wondered if other people might enjoy if I were to record myself paint with focus on the brush sounds.
It was such a treat to stubble upon your video and a joy to know that other people do in fact enjoy the sounds of painting too! ❤️✨
