The Allman Brothers band is as important as any band of that era. Whipping Post, Blue Sky and Statesboro Blues are just a few that you’re guaranteed to love
They were Southern, and they rocked, but calling the ABB “Southern rock” is an oversimplification. No other Southern rock band incorporated jazz & blues, gospel & country into their art. Best pure Southern rock band was from Tampa, IMHO.
Can't believe you haven't touched Allman Bros yet. Check out the first 3 songs on Live at the Fillmore East - Statesboro Blues; Done Somebody Wrong; and Stormy Monday. You'll be equally impressed. This song is from the same concert. With 2 superb guitarists, Duane on slide and Dicky on the other, 2 drummers, great bassist, and Greg's smoky bluesy voice and keyboards, they were the force in Southern Blues-Rock. For the best example of Greg's vocals, check out Not My Cross to Bear. There's dozens of other songs from studio albums and this double live album and followup, Eat a Peach.
THIS IS THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMING BAND AMERICA EVER PRODUCED...... they were flat out gifted good ole boys ... Their chops shone bright over all others. Country rock, Blues and none had the naturally tight instrumentation these folk did ! Listen and learn good sir !!!
I met Derek and his mom, brother when Derek came to Vail and played at Garton's with the bouncing floor when he was like 12 yrs old !! I remember talking to them about fishing !! It was AWESOME SHOW!! 🎸🔥😁😍
Greatest American Rock Band ever Two of the greatest lead guitarists. Dickie Betts and Skydog Duane Allman. Greg Allmans voice was the greatest blues voice in rock history
Dickey Betts’ tone on that solo is my favorite Les Paul tone I’ve ever heard. Pick ups so hot you could fry an egg on them. It’s basically just as Les Paul and a Marshall. No effects.
THIS cut is sass, sexy, and a deep deep groove. The intertwined guitars are sublime. ABB never misses but this the Fillmore East recording, A holy grail.
My favorite and best (IMO) on this album is one of the shortest-Hot’Lanta. Love the jams but it shows what they’re all about a lot quicker! Saw them in a small club in Buffalo; they overflowed off the stage into the audience; which seemed to match the number in the band 😂 The road manager got into a an actual fight with the club over getting paid…
I am 65 years old, and one of my best friend included this version recorded on a cassette with many other eclectic songs of that era. We would play that tape three several decades of parties on road trips. This has always been one of my favorites off of that tape. Another one you should check out that has a very similar feel from that tape is Deep Purple’s Hush. He won’t be disappointed.
DUEL LEADS BY Firstly Dickie Betts - using a pick and playing a Gibson SG ........ the great Duane Allman on Guitar played with a Plastic Pill Bottle as an early slide device ...... these folk were phenomenal ripping solos .... Berry on BASS = damn good, Keyboards are the soulful singing lead of Gregg Allman - just so good - the Percussion was two people of great skill - Jamal on various percussive elements including Conga and of course on the Kit - Butch Trucks ..... (uncle of the Tedeschy - Trucks guitarist nowadays ) ....... If you saw them live YOU WERE BLOWN AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would a plastic pill bottle even work as a slide? I think it was glass. Various sizes & shapes of glass pill bottles were much more common in those days. My Dad had a drug store back then.
Hard to beat! I assume you've heard of Derek Trucks. He's the nephew of Butch Trucks. Derek is in my book the greatest slide player alive. It all comes from the Allman Bros. They invented Southern Rock. Also Jimmy Carter used to tour with them, and give speeches before the shows. Jimmy was ready to legalize marijuana in the 70's, then came the Reagan's with just say no.
One of the greatest "jam" bands ever, they would take a 4 min song and playing it live, it would be stretched out for 20 minutes. Also they popularized what was to become, Southern Rock"
I hate that they splice the original live song from Eat A Peach onto this wrong video......makes it too distracting to watch......might as well just platy the audio with photos of the band
When Gregg Allman heard Derek Trucks play, said Duane Reincarnated. Duane dies tragically young, but not only the Allman’s, Derek and the Dominoes, and a treasure trove of studio gigs with the Swampers in Muscle Shoals). Good documentary on Muscle Shoals. A personal favorite is Please Be With Me by Cowboy. A beautiful song that Clapton covered after Duane’s death and his recovery from addiction.
the Allmans recorded most of their albums here in Macon Georgia where they lived especially Capricorn Studios! I live just 17 miles from the Allman Brothers Big House museum
@ just speaking of Duane’s role as a session player which happened between the Allman Joys and the Allman Brothers when he worked as session player in Alabama
@@Ed-yj8ts I saw both also in concert and thought Allman Bros. were the best at the time but over the years I started to really appreciate the talent of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Two different bands and styles altogether, Allmans were jam band with innovations on stage every nite they played, whereas Lynyrd were tight interpretations with no variance or innovations during their live playing. Dont forget the Marshall Tucker Band who could give anybody a run for their money and very innovative on stage.
Butch Trucks was the uncle of Derek Trucks. Arguably the best slide guitar player alive today. I'd also say Greg Allman was probably the best white blues vocalist. Skip the flames. Just my opinion. Both Allmanas and Dickey dead now the band endures with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks and others sitting in. Duane killed in a Motorcycle accident just when the band was getting rebounded, Also lost Harry Chapin to a M/C accident. Those boys didnt believe in helmets and might have been high. One will never know. Huge loss to music.
The Allman Brothers band is as important as any band of that era.
Whipping Post, Blue Sky and Statesboro Blues are just a few that you’re guaranteed to love
I'm fond of Greg Allman's Laid Back album...great songs
Saw them back in 1971 just before I was going to Marine Corp. Boot Camp in San Diego California on my way to Vietnam. The Best Blues Band ever.
Thank you for your service...My dad took that same journey as a "Hollywood Marine" in 1969.
And he's the one who introduced me to Allman Bros too!
1,000%!!!!!
One of the finest live recordings ever!
Allman Brothers are the Godfathers of southern rock
Yes ❤
They were Southern, and they rocked, but calling the ABB “Southern rock” is an oversimplification.
No other Southern rock band incorporated jazz & blues, gospel & country into their art.
Best pure Southern rock band was from Tampa, IMHO.
@ yep they did it all …..still the godfathers of southern rock tho ✌️
The music is from "Eat a Peach" recorded in June 1971. The video is from at least two different concerts.
I'm glad you young people are listening to the music that we thought was new and exciting at the time long before you were born. Fabulous!
Very good stuff. The one Allman Brothers album to own, if you were to just own one, IMO.

Yes he's got to do the entire Allman Bros journey. They were the best American Rock band ever.
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is one of their finest melodies
First concert I ever went to, Allman Brothers at Madison Square Garden, unfortunately shortly after Duane died but still with Berry Oakley.
Saw them at UMass, student union ballroom....late 68 or 69. I forget.....long ago......sat on the floor, maybe 100 people.....they rocked
The Allmans, when Brother Duane Allman was in the line-up, were an awesome live band. Incredible musicianship.
This was live. That is amazing!
The masters of blues and rock for that matter 🙌 👌
The Allmans were the official band of my high school bong team. Heard them everyday at practice lol. 1976
A friend won a dancing contest to this song at a local Honky Tonk circa 1973.
I drove across the country in 1972 lstenng to The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East..Duane Allman was the greatest slide guitarist ever
Good to see “serious” new discoveries.
Allman Bros are The Founders of Southern Rock.
Refreshing that you had some knowledge.
I met Derek and his mom, brother when Derek came to Vail and played at Garton's with the bouncing floor when he was like 12 yrs old !! I remember talking to them about fishing !! It was AWESOME SHOW!! 🎸🔥😁😍
There will never be another band like this.
Best LIVE album ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their sound was so clean and they sounded as good live as they did on their albums
Awesome live band, recommend In “Memory of Elisabeth Reed” from Fillmore East.

Derek’s brother Duane, see a pattern?, plays drums for widespread panic. Check out Col Bruce Hampton, he is OG southern jam band
I was at that concert
Don't forget their masterpiece written by Dicky Betts, 'In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.'

Grab the first album and run Tracks 1 and 2 together - they were originally recorded as one long performance.

They were indeed a jam band as they often played 3 hours plus!
🎯@ 7:07…”fantastic performance…so far.” 😂 Like it’s gonna go somewhere else?!?
Welcome to my world of the 50 60 70. Southern Rock at its best
Video doesn't match the recording but still fire..I grew up in the 70’s listening and playing in bands
Notice Allman's glass slide......it was a glass Coricedin medicine bottle.
The brothers were like Duane 23 or 24...Gregg....22 or 23 years old....Duane was only 24 when he died in a motorcycle accident.
The Tedeschi-Trucks Band carries on their legacy today
I hate that they splice the original live song from Eat A Peach onto this wrong video......makes it too distracting to watch......might as well just platy the audio with photos of the band
I saw them once....'73 Watkins Glen
Duane on slide is just *chef's kiss*
There’s nothing better!! Forgot all the rest!!

New Year's 1975 Lakeland florida
You can't handle their music bro
Check out the Tedeschi Trucks Band if you haven't. Derek is the reincarnation of Duane.
Check out Whipping Post live on the same Fillmore concert on UA-cam, likely the song you had on Guitar Hero ✅
This is when it was real, No auto tune, What you heard is what it was
Allman Bros were virtuoso's
Without a doubt the best white blues band ever, and I don't think it's even close.
Whipping Post
Give a listen to Blue Sky from Eat a Peach.
Now bite your lower lip , close your eyes and do your best air guitar.. hahahaha
Check out soulshine by the Allman brothers
You should react to the full Fillmore East Album ✌️
Who was first, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers?
Allmans by 2 or 3 years
Play the track and less bs
Outlaws anyone?
Real thing first,no disrespect to the Outlaws.
Who was the better southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Bros.
They both brought something to the party and they both were well practices and put on excellent live concerts.
@@Ed-yj8ts I saw both also in concert and thought Allman Bros. were the best at the time but over the years I started to really appreciate the talent of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Allmans in my opinion
Two different bands and styles altogether, Allmans were jam band with innovations on stage every nite they played, whereas Lynyrd were tight interpretations with no variance or innovations during their live playing. No disrespect to Lynyrd Skynyrd, but … The Allman were next level compared with every other band.
Butch Trucks was the uncle of Derek Trucks. Arguably the best slide guitar player alive today. I'd also say Greg Allman was probably the best white blues vocalist. Skip the flames. Just my opinion. Brother Duane plays for Widespread now too
