I found you guys when i worked at whole foods back in march. they kept playing Midlist Author, every single day, and i was running around with a napkin and a pen and hiding under every speaker trying to make out the words so i could look the song up. finally, my coworker revealed to me he was tall enough to reach the volume knob on the part of the ceiling that hung down over our prepared foods department. so i got to write the lyrics down, and i found your channel, and that song still makes me feel alive every time i give it a listen.
that's so funny! I remember hearing the same song in our Whole Foods in Napa, California!

The joys of corporate controlled music programming. Sometimes it’s a good thing (like in this case) other times not so much.
I worked for a major retailer for 27 years, and back in the 90s that company actually had a live radio station that was broadcast in all of its stores they would recognize employee birthdays and service anniversaries and you could even call in and request songs.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS FROM MY FAVORITE FUCKING ALBUM AHHHHHHH
Went to the UCLA Royce Hall show with animation in background. Wish that one was filmed. Unreal performance.
Hazards of Love is my favorite album, period. The first time I saw the Decemberists live was during the second leg of the Hazards tour, September 18, 2009. That performance quickly set up the Decemberists as some of my favorite musicians of all time. Since then, I've seen them at least four or five more times, and every time I can say their live sound is second to none. Whoever does their sound mixing is just as phenominal as the rest of the band. I can't recommend seeing them live enough, if you get the chance. And to the band, I'll see you in 2021 when you come through Boston :).
I agree about Hazards of Love being my favorite of all time also.
OMG!! I was at this show and it was one of my top 10 concerts of all time! Before the show, the band came out onto the street to play on the corner and the Royal Oak Police jerks shut them down. To top things off, today is my recently passed friend's birthday and they released the discs on his birthday. I just ordered the presale vinyl and can't wait for it to arrive. Thank you Decemberists for making my day!
HOL Madison WI was my first Decemberists concert! And then several shows later, in 2018, I finally got to meet Colin Meloy at the last stop of the American leg of the Your Girl/Your Ghost tour in Indianapolis. 💘 I really wish I got to go in August, but I can’t wait for next August!! 21 or 20 years! We’ll never know!
Was at this show too and have to agree with others - one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Was JUST thinking about how good it was the other day. I have never preordered an album faster...CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT!!!
I saw them in 2009 at an intimate setting in Pittsburgh and they played their Hazards of Love album straight through. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
[Margaret: Becky Stark]
Gentle leaves, gentle leaves
Please array a path for me
The woods are blowing thick and fast around
Columbine, Columbine
Please alert this love of mine
Let him know his Margaret comes along
And all this stirring inside my belly
Won't quell my want for love
And I may swoon from all this swelling
But I won't want for love
Mistlethrush, Mistlethrush
Lay me down in the underbrush
My naked feet grow weary with the dusk
Willow Boughs, Willow Boughs
Make a bed to lay me down
Let your branches bow to cradle us
And all this stirring inside my belly
Won't quell my want for love
And I may swoon from all this swelling
But I won't want for love
[William: Colin Meloy]
Oh, my own true love
Oh, my own true love
Can you hear me, love?
Can you hear me, love?
And all this stirring inside my belly
Won't quell my want for love
And I may swoon from all this swelling
But I won't want for love
Won't want for love...
Won't want for love...
Won't want for love...
I was there for this concert! And I wore the shit out of that concert tee, my son might have it now...Fully crying from the nostalgic joy of that night, still the best concert of my life to date.
Been a fan for many many years. Albums mark the times of my life. Now... I love to play all my Decembrists faves for my baby, singing along and dancing with him in my arms.
I love how on the cover, everyone's doing their thing, but Jenny's just like "DEMONS BEGONE!!"
I'm so excited! I really wanted to catch this tour but was unable, and Hazards remains my favorite Decemberists album to this day.
Pre-ordered immediately.
Come back to Orlando Pleeeaaaase!!!
I RAN HERE SO FAST.
OH MY GOD!!!!
Was there the following weekend at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Pretty sure it was a very similar set. Hazards of love had come out in the spring I believe and I absolutely loved and still love this album.
I’m so grateful to have seen them on this tour.
When hazards of love came out I was looking it up on youtube within minutes of its release to get a listen in before I could get to barnes and noble so I could get a copy for myself.
I went to four shows in one week on this tour (Tulsa, KC, STL, Dallas) and they were all incredible. Can't wait for this official audio!
I was hoping that these recordings would eventually make it to us. Saw it in Lexington, KY and the show was one of the best that I've ever been to. The second set of favorites was phenomenal as well!
Amazing!😍
Lovely! 💜💚💙
that was wonderful!
Please release on digital soon!
Me Myself I was referring to the full Live Home Library, Vol. 1, which is only currently available on vinyl and which Colin said would “eventually” be released on digital. Digital here means MP3 and/or FLAC.
cant wait for this
Amazing.
Yay!!!

i feel like i'm definitely the only person who read their books before hearing the music lol
Their books were the three wildwood books if you haven't heard of them.
Ayyy yaaas sounds nice!!
