Just an exhaust & tune hit you 80 hp wow. I had the 3.7 vvel motor in a G37 with down pipes headers full dual exhaust stolen stage 3 Intake & up rev tune only got 40hp. Your getting a real nice running v8 if you got 80 go out of it.
I've had modded tuned g35 and g37 so I'm well aware how difficult it is to get any additional power out of VQ. With M56 it is a little easier because it has a lot of hidden untapped potential: 4 cats instead of two, weird blocking plates inside stock exhaust that rob power and a very conservative factory tune. Also I think these are underrated from factory, never was able to do a baseline so can't say for sure.
He made 400 whp so he didn’t make 80 whp from a tune and exhaust lol that’s not possible. He just titled it 500hp for click bait purposes. It seems like you googled “m56s hp” and the first result google showed you was 420, hence why you assumed he gained 80 hp bc 420+80 = 500 lol anyway you shouldn’t believe google results.

I have an Infiniti m56x, bought it 2 years ago in July for 17k in the Philly area. Would’ve bought this one instead in a heart beat. What did it sell for?
Ended up giving it away for 17k to a dealer who probably sold it for 23 to 24. For some reason was not having an easy time selling and was getting a lot of ridiculously low offers.
Mark G no complaints, this is my 4th infiniti. They have all been rock solid with exception of twin turbo g37 car which was too modified to be reliable. This one never needs anything apart from regular maintenance.

Yeah I did get it from Harte, they shipped it to me in MD, it must be your old car then, not many 56S around. We had to unlock the ecu as it was tuned to the stillen exhaust and locked. I've done a lot more updates to it since then, not sure you would recognize it today lol. What did you replace it with if you don't mind me asking?

About to purchase 2011 M56s has 120k miles on (owner says did oil change every 2500 miles). Worrying about VK56VD’s engine life after reading this from a UA-camr owns M56s: They do have an oiling issue that the trucks do not have. It creates a lot of sludge. So if you hangs your oil, even 300 miles later it's going to be sludge. It's working but it's not circulating as well as it could and getting too hot up near the top of the cylinder heads. A private Nissan/Infiniti mechanic pointed this out and basically said that it's rare to see them run over 200K -> Any opinions/suggestions on this sir?
Mine has been a gem from day one to the day I sold at about 100k, nothing went wrong with it at all which tells me with regular maintenance it would easily go to 200k and beyond. That being said, I would have a professional inspect yours and go over it with fine-tooth comb and get their opinion, the weak point on these cars is 4 wheel steering and not usually the engine which mechanically is pretty much the same as the truck engine so I'm not sure what the guy is talking about.

@@infinitimusic1903 It's good when the engine is used on a wide range of cars rather than just 1 because that allows for more testing and rooting out any issues and the parts will be cheaper. I just went on cars.com and found 2006 QX56 which had an early version of this engine with 300k miles so I know these engines are solid. I've heard some people talk shit about them but they usually turn out to be owners of 3.7 VQ who know nothing about the subject.

@@infinitimusic1903 I can't see the future but in my experience, it's pretty reliable. Just make sure rear-wheel steering is in good shape and timing chain recall has been done and you should be good.
Rear wheel drive is about 0.2 sec faster, awd version is built for traction, not for performance. Not even sure why people buy x version in dmv area where it snows once a year.

I always wondered how much power Nissan was leaving on the table with the VK56VD. I'm currently looking for a Q70L and would love to see what it's capable of. I just wish the 7 speed had the immediacy of the ZF 8 speeds. Wonder if they're able to be tuned like the ZFs can.

It's been a while but I believe it was bigger piped (2.75) exhaust, including the y pipe w the removal of secondary cats, custom tune on a dyno and K&N filters in the stock boxes. It was a few hp shy of 500hp to the crank, the exhaust is the biggest upgrade as the stock one is insanely restrictive, I've never seen one that this bad and I've been modifying cars for 20+ years.

My G35x still has plenty of life left in it. I may just sell it once I get close to stacking 11k. I was wanting to do a swap, but I wouldn't be able to maintain 💯% functionality if I do a VR30DDTT swap. I wanted a sleeper, but these M56 will be a nice sleeper as well. I'd be spending way over 11k with a swap. When I looked in how much these are going for I was shocked in how cheap they actually are. My G35X is getting old, fun car but it's not worth all the effort it takes just to get it anywhere near 300hp. I have the DE so I'm sol in that department. Much rather get a nice updated Infiniti. The M56 will definitely do this for me. I figure by this time next yr I should have enough to get one. Plus they might be even cheaper. Found a bunch that are between 10k-15k that are around the 110k mileage range. If they can get close to 450hp+ at the crank with just exhaust, intake and a tune than I'm definitely getting one. Plus they're half the price of a Q60, which was what I initially wanted. Think these look better personally, plus they are extremely rare. I've never seen one here, I've seen a few M35's and maybe one M45. Would have to get one out of state though. If they made a supercharged kit, this car would be a beast. I don't think anyone has gone FI on one yet? Nice car, can't wait until I own one.
Ryan Foster only 2 of 4 cats were removed so it passes emissions. Also they don't even check actual emissions, just error codes most of the time in MD.

Ryan Foster it's in the shop right now getting cutouts on the exhaust to make it loud when I want to and I'm planning to do custom headers next. Haven't thought about cams yet.
The M56x, M56S, and M56xS all produced 420 bhp & 417 ftq. At the wheels they put down between 395 & 410 whp depending on elevation. Torque ranges also. I've seen tuned base model m56 put out 430 to wheels.

It has a custom built exhaust and then it was tuned as shown in the video. That's it.

No, it was just a small bump in hp, not really necessary imho.
Mine has a custom exhaust as well. Taking it out to SOHO Motorsports to get it Uprev tuned and dyno. Do you have any resonators and x-pipe?

It's much too heavy to get into 11s, it gets into 12s though.

AFE makes a header for a vk56vd it might work with the m56 with some tweaking.

It would be a waste of money but I would do exhaust, headers, tune. But honestly save your money and get a 3.0 turbo or 5.6 for more power.
