I love all of your videos Lumnah but one thing that I have to say is in a nice way is that the machines are louder than your voice. Idk if it's your camera or what. But overall I love your videos.
Al, the best videos are the ones where you and your family work together building stuff and enjoying each other's company. Love it! God bless you and your family!
I love the layout of this hive and the fact that you can access everything without having to take it all apart. Looking forward to learning about bee keeping once you get your bees and start showing us around.
We close Wednesday on our little homestead 😍 Milk goats, chickens, and bees are on the plans for us! We only have 3.25 acres so our herd and flock will be smaller but I plan to make the most out of it. I used to can with my great grandmothers as a little girl so I’d love to get my garden going this year for especially half runner beans 💕
Congratulations! That is awesome. We call our little five acres here in north Texas a homestead. My wife and I still work off farm jobs but love the lifestyle.
I used to keep bees. There's nothing better than honey from your own hive. I found it very therapeutic sitting in the garden watching them returning with their bounty. Love your videos. All the best from England.
Al, I noticed that you and Gina kneel on your concrete shop floor a lot, when you're making stuff. You can make it a lot easier on yourselves if you keep a couple of squares of foam handy for that (or folded carpet, etc). I use old boat cushions, because the old ones are soft and can hang on a hook. But any squishy foam would help a lot. Cheers!
Maverick, Goose, and Figaro are my favorite part of the videos. I love all the tips tricks and goat stuff but those are definitely my favorite reason for watching.
Winter in Northern WI nearly did me in with constant colds and possibly I got the infamous BLASTO fungal pneumonia that clogged up my sinuses, decades later, older and a bit wiser, I became interested in herbals and now use helichrysum -adulterated- for swabbing my nasal passage. Works well and my winter colds and flu are a thing the past, good that now I'm 73! Wonderful plant for Gina to grow in her herbal garden, attractive and stands up to its name, strawflower. Second only to rose in its concentration of beneficial actions!! Thanks for family sharing! I only wish I had it to do over for my grandchildren.
Thank you for using the push stick! I knew some one who had their shirt sleeve caught by the turning saw blade, and pulled their arm down into the blade! That is not a video of LA I would want to see. You might make some facility on the hives so that they could be move by the Kabota.
I AM PLANTING MY FIRST CONTAINER GARDEN IN FLORIDA. I HAVEN'T PLANTED A VEG GARDEN SINCE I MOVED FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE IN 1992, I HAVE TRIED BUT NO SUCCESS SO I AM PRAYING IT IS SUCCESSFUL THIS YEAR. GOD BLESS Y'ALL AND THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR LIFE WITH US.
Good mornin New Yolk City .... the pasture pig (Punxsutawney Phil) has spoken .... get out the sunscreen! AL ... I always wondered that if you give the broken eggs to the chickens, that it would encourage them to eat their eggs ... strange. I also wondered how those hens that laid eggs in the pig pasture area got away with it, since you would think the pigs would find them. Your bee hives are gonna bee really cool. Do you get a lot of blossoms on your apple trees? You're going to have a lot of pollinators in the garden this year. Gonna bee cool to see the bee activity. I guess combing the double-doodle Pluto would be like trying to comb a sheep ..... not gonna happen ~8^) Have a nice week AL, Gina & Olivia ... take care.
Just an idea, the hay what the goats waste on the floor, you could scoop it up and put it in the chicken run where you feed them,it would give the chickens a bit more of a challenge finding the food and it would help stop your ducks feed getting as cold
Hi Al, Gina, and Olivia..... My wife wanted me to send a suggestion for another name for your Bee hives. My wife bought some Valentines candy. Remember the little sugar hearts with the imprints on them. She gave one that said "Be Mine". Well, in recognition of your hive project completion corresponding with Valentines Day.....she thought of "BEE MINE" for the name. That makes sense because the hives would be a 'Gold 'Mine'....and Honey is golden. You could stencil it with red hearts or something. (I submitted "BEE, N" TOWN" in recognition of Boston...AKA bean Town)....Good luck on the project.
Good moring dear family ,Love watching you all working together for your future. The sounds of Saws and Drills and a cup of coffee and all the animals, I'm hoping that's what heaven will be like. Love from Fl.😘👍
I also like not having to lift off supers to to check on bees and lift out frames heavy with honey. On your horizontal bee hive, it is good to protect them from such predators as bears, and it can be a serious problem for your hive if you forget to protect against the little critters too. I have heard that too much space in your hive encourages outside pests to populate inside and overwhelm the bees and make it difficult for them to fend off the mites, wax moths, hive beetles, etc. Adding some kind of solid divider in with the frames may help to limit the space pests have to invade and easier for bees to defend their honey. Looking forward to see it in operation. 🐝
I enjoy watching all your videos. The hive mites are called Varro mites. I noticed the hinge screws are sticking thru into the area the oil tray will go, might want to grind them smooth. Also, I went back and watched the first video and you had small frame. The hive build design looks like you will need all deep frames, otherwise the bees will build burr comb down from the bottom of each frame. Rule of thumb is maintain bee space thru out the hive. You are doing great.
Good morning Al and family! It’s 5:40 am here in Houston and 61 degrees. Just crazy....I don’t think we’re going to experience winter this year. The high is supposed to be in the 70’s today. Hope y’all have a great day! Stay warm! 🙏🏼❤️🕊🇺🇸
I have enjoyed watching the "Bee Build" , Watching Olivia play in the snow. Glad she is excited about the bees. Will be exciting watching you all take care of the bees. This is something that has been on my mind lately. I live in town and have a smallish size lot. I do have room for 4 chickens by city regulations which I plan to get this spring as soon as weather clears enough to build a small chicken coop and run. I don't know about the bees. I am a little afraid of them but feel I need to do something. This area of Texas I live in, The Northern most of the Texas Panhandle is agricultural, wheat, corn, maze, plus ranching. My concern is there are still many crop dusters in the area and many chemicals being used. I have been an organic Gardner for 45 + years , last year I didn't see not ONE bee in my garden. I have a green house and 9 raised beds plus plan to put 8 more in my front yard this year. Thoughts on this anyone?
Next time you move snow away from the gate you use to feed chickens push it over to Olivia's sledding hill at the top just a bucket or 2 will give her about 3 feet of extra lift make sure to not get it to close to the fence because you know Hope will try and climb it and jump over to see what is on the other side.
Bees, then planting an orcheder (?). Just a thought... Love the thought of Spring. Babies on the way and Bees too!!! Hahaha!! I have so enjoyed watch your Homestead grow. Thank you for sharing your journey and God bless.
I'm thinking your next project should be some push sticks. As much as you're playing with that tablesaw a few push sticks would come in handy. I like the ones that look like this with a handle on top. --------^----| ...I feel like having the push stick ride on top of the material helps keeps things on the table. Boards going air born is bad. lol. When cutting rabbits I'll also use my jointer paddles. The nonslip paddles give me good control over the board. I'm also a big fan of the magnetic feather boards. These few tools will improve your quality, they're super cheap, and keep you safe. One last project you should look at building is the roy underhill bench hooks. I would be lost without them. They're super easy to make. UA-cam has a video of course. Probably the most underrated tool i have. And they were free. Best of luck to you guys.
Safety Tip When attaching air hose to staple gun you had it pointed at your wife. Air guns have been known to discharge a staple or nail when first attaching the hose. Treat the air stapler/nailer the same as you would a firearm and be sure of where you are pointing it at all times. Injuries can be severe.
@ Richard Williams , my air powered stapler will not discharge a staple unless it is actually touching the work. A safety feature of a Harbor Freight tool ?
That's correct Don. All air guns have a safety that must be depressed in order to fire. Occasionally they misfire when connecting the air pressure. Always treat them the same as you would a firearm. I have witnessed many injuries from air guns ranging from a welt on skin to more severe such as staple put out his eye and nail thru a knee to a nail in a head and one in his chest and one thru his hand etc. Everyone please treat them with respect same as a firearm.
The reality is pneumatic nailers will not discharge without depressing the trigger or the safety tab. That being said you should never shoot in direction of someone. But as far as how Al hooked up the stapler, he was fine.
@@edaker4684 the true reality is that air nailers do malfunction. I worked construction where 95% of all fasteners were put in with air guns with more than half million manhours of use by the 40 men/women putting in over 75 million fasteners. I have seen the discharge happen when the tool malfunctions when attaching the hose and also administered first aid because of it. All safety rules tell don't point gun at anyone even if disconnected. Pushing an ignorant narrative of its ok is eventually going to get someone hurt.

Al, down here where we live it has been a mild Winter. I saw on the news where old Puxatawny Phil said there was going to be an early Spring. As my mom use to say, no matter what that groundhogs predicts we're going to have 8 more weeks of Winter. I hope we have an early Spring, so you can get dug out and start your projects. I would like to see you build a screen porch into your house or at least a deck. Love your videos. Thank you Al, Gina and Olivia. Not forgetting Figero, Pluto and Tanner.
I have watched your channel for a while now. It just dawned on me why I like listening to you. You sound a lot like Norm from This Old House. Yes, sometimes I feel like the scarecrow. "if I only had a brain" lol. I enjoy your projects.
Rusty looked like he almost short circuited for a second there when you stepped on and broke that egg. I thought for sure he was going to make another attempt at breaking one of yours! He’s a good protector alright, so I do pity “whatever” critter that tries to get at the girls but... Nope, I just don’t trust him with “whoever” sorry... There you go Al, a small quick project. a question about the bee entrance... you have 3 long holes.. are you putting 3 entrances in one bee hive box..a new small hive should have one entrance that they can defend otherwise your going to have many hive robbers or worst wasps that kill your bees. if you look at the final pictures in the plans you posted you can see he covered up all but one entrance.
loved the little bee bee bzzzzz sound!!! You have to know that the same love you put on your work and family definitely flows toward your videos and they are fun, interesting and show what an effort you make. Love them a lot and absolutely appreciate the efforts you make!!!
I'm always amazed what you're able to plan in your head and build. I love it. I urge you to please practice better table saw safety. You need to add a riving knife to the table saw. Also, please use a second push stick when working with wood that small/narrow or let it go near the end and just push with the one stick. Your hand should never come that close to the blade. Appreciate all your content, keep it up!
Really enjoy watching you build things. Grandpa and Dad were carpenters, but I hadn't practiced any in years. Watching you refreshed my memories of techniques and showed me a lot of the newer fasteners. I appreciate you posting these. I've finished our bathroom remodels and I'm building shelving for my wife in the basement storage area. My son is digging post holes so we can put up a fence for our dogs. Your videos have helped me a great deal in making decisions and selecting materials.
We have one traditional hive and have purchased a top bar hive. We will be adding bees to our top bar hive in April. It was a blast watching you build yours. Love the design, so I think we will give making our next one ourselves a shot!
Those bee hives are going to be amazing! Thanks for sharing the project plans. What a crazy non winter we've had here in the Northwest corning of North Carolina. It is 64º outside right now! I wish the ground was drier so I could take the tractor out and do some projects. Blessings to all.
For the last week or so our weather has been good. It's been around 40°- 30°. I can't believe it's been that warm, and you look like the Artic CircleCircle. Michigan is usually colder and around the lakes is colder. Bees are going to be a interesting addition to the farm. Are you going to get more chickens in the spring? Morning. We had temps yesterday of 43. But then the front came through. So close to being a very happy. Well its safe to say we ail are a buzz waiting to see what's next. I bet the next Big project must bee your new car port??? Have you thought about the hives location??? Both near each other or apart??? Have a good day..
Good morning. Hive project looks great! If we ever retire from raising cattle, I will establish a hive or two. One company who may have some helpful suggestions is Mann Lake in MN, if they are still in business. I worked briefly for them in the mid 1990s. They had seasoned hive builders, living in the mountains. Had to wait for them to get down to the country store in order to talk with them by phone! Even back then there was a serious issue regarding losing queen bees. They were knowledgeable. MN winters were brutal! 40 below F. I told them that I was coming home to NH to warm up!
They are not just "in business" they are becoming the dominant beekeeping supplier. They have purchased Kelley Beekeeping and the inventory from Bushy Mountain both of which were big suppliers.
Bob. Do you live in MN? We had 20 acres on Whetherbee Rd outside of Brainerd. One time I got caught between two ,class 1 tornadoes on my drive home from Mann Lake. I pulled into a sports bar in Nisswa and was scared to death! We don't see that kind of weather very often in NH. My neighbors were farmers and they were terrific! I am glad to hear that Mann Lake Bee Supplies is doing well. Thanks for sharing that information.
Hope you can close the 3 entrances sufficiently and efficient in winter, without losing enough ventilation to lose the moisture the bees exhale during those months.
HI AL, i'm subscribed to a youtube channel called' Keeping it Dutch', and he caught a SKUNK and he mentioned that skunk can wipe out BEE HIVES, I wasn't sure if u knew this so thought i'd mention it just incase, I didn't know that they did this..... keep up the great work love ur video's x
Al, at 20:35 on the video, there are 3 sharp screw ends sticking up that could do some serious damage to hands and fingers while handling the oil trays. I love all your videos, and am so proud of Gina's budding carpentry skills.
funny how just 250 miles south, here in NY we have had no below zero days this winter. We have no snow on the ground and most lakes are not frozen enough to walk on. I guess we cant all be as lucky as you Al.
Today Kansas City (Super Bowl champs) is in the 50's and 60's. For Wednesday's parade it will be in the 20's with snow. It won't be a problem schools closed large crowds. I am a wimp and will watch from home.
Hi Al Gina , catching this early evening. Did you give up on the insulted tires to keep the goat water from freezing? I've never seen 🐝 boxes like this before. Very interesting! JO JO IN VT 💕☃ 😊
I love watching the goats fat little fluffy bodies run in front of you. We like to give our chickens hay in the winter to pick thru along with heads of cabbage. We hang the cabbage from a chain in their house to give them something to do when it ucky outside. Very cool that you are building a horizontal hive. I have been watching videos of Dr. Leo Sharashkin and I find him totally fascinating. He is so knowledgeable about bee's.
If Rusties gang don't step up production in spring, put them in the stewpot, they already owe you rent. You need guttering around barn etc or you will b replacing sidings
The hives are looking good. It will be interesting to watch your bees. You might want to get some clover seeds and plant them in the grassy areas near the hives. They like clover. Have a Blessed day.
Nothing like polar bear weather. Sad when your sad to get regular weather in winter. Gotta let out an feed critters. They always have to come first. After endless cups of your favorite coffee u dont get to cold..And atleast u can melt some snow early thaw.
I got those plans last summer and hope to build one or 2 this month. Thanks for showing me how to make the ridges. I was going to try ar otter. Can't wait it'll tomorrow.

Also, please use a second push stick when working with wood that small/narrow or let it go near the end and just push with the one stick. Your hand should never come that close to the blade. Appreciate all your content, keep it up!
Morning, Al! Yep, our cat's doing the same thing right now. Out, then straight back in! Trouble is, we've got a neighbour's cat who wants in, too! 😄
Loved the bee hive build. You have a fantastic wood shop. I love that saw bench. So slick!
I'm glad you won't have to move the hive box very often. Those boxes look pretty heavy. Best wishes for getting some good home grown honey! 🐝
I am learning so much from you all. Thanks for sharing.
Good Morning - Love watching the bee hives and looking forward to honey!
Have a good day!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜💜💜🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜💜💜🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💜💜💜💜💜🍀💜🍀🍀🍀
They are definitely going to "bee" a great addition to the farm. lol
Mornin' Lumnahs. Are you planning on fencing your bees again to discourage bears?
Yes we will fence them in we don’t want to share our honey with the local wildlife.
Make that an " electric fence " to hopefully keep the bears at bay...:~)
@Winnie The Pooh Just letting you know singing "I'm just a little black rain cloud" will not fool the bees.
@Racoon Bob says the raccoon. lols
Al when going to the hay feeder I think they keep turning around wondering what is taking you so long. Come on Dad keep up. They are so funny.
I’m too slow
Thanks for sharing that information.
when putting goat up, move water to interior room. May not freeze hard. Put a little ledge by the bee doors for them to come in and out on..
Hope you can close the 3 entrances sufficiently and efficient in winter, without losing enough ventilation to lose the moisture the bees exhale during those months.
Super excited for the bees! It's definitely something that I would love to have someday when I find where we're settling.
Pluto looks nice with his new hair cut .also warm with sweater!! 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐝🐝🐓🐓👍
But Pluto's a girl.
we are redoing three of our raised garden beds and adding two more. also making camping plans to some of the homesteading groups
I like those plans
Was going to say the ones with the least amount of knots, but they all seem pretty naughty. Lol 😄
Looks great that beehive! 👍😁
Good afternoon 😃💜
Al, at 20:35 on the video, there are 3 sharp screw ends sticking up that could do some serious damage to hands and fingers while handling the oil trays. I love all your videos, and am so proud of Gina's budding carpentry skills.
funny how just 250 miles south, here in NY we have had no below zero days this winter. We have no snow on the ground and most lakes are not frozen enough to walk on. I guess we cant all be as lucky as you Al.
How great to be able to get eggs that are so many different colors.
Would you consider sharing the pizza dough recipe?? It looked wonderful!!
The chickens don't seem to mind packed snow, but they don't like wading through fresh snow a whole lot.
You should try putting up a camera on the goats female/ male, see how they settle down for the night.
I’m thinking - paint color bright yellow with some bee stripes.
That was very interesting one bee house nice.
As an alternative to using vegetable oil to catch the mites, you can use diatomaceous earth. It’s quite a bit cleaner and easier to manage.
I'm turning an alcove in our back hallway into a pantry. I have the framing done I just have to cut and add the shelves. Then I can start my seeds.
Fancy bee hives. Rusty is a bad boy.
God Bless you and your family ♥️🇺🇸💕
Maybe keep a small broom on a hook in the bus stop to keep seat clean so y’all can sit also 😎
Good morning Lumnah family great video cant wait to see bees on the homestead i hope you all have a blessed day
Good Morning! Colorado is getting snow storm today and tomorrow. Their saying down to negitive 8 by Tuesday night.
That bee box is going to be heavy wen it's full off honey and that was a maze video clip yous put together there. 👍 👍 🐝🐝
If Rusties gang don't step up production in spring, put them in the stewpot, they already owe you rent.
You need guttering around barn etc or you will b replacing sidings
Thank you for sharing ❤️
Stay warm & safe 💞👍🙌👏💖💞
Hugs for Everyone ❤️🤗💞
The hives are looking good. It will be interesting to watch your bees. You might want to get some clover seeds and plant them in the grassy areas near the hives. They like clover. Have a Blessed day.
Ty so much for showing Figaro in your last few posts. Love pluto's sweater and the excellent work you and your wife do.
Nothing like polar bear weather. Sad when your sad to get regular weather in winter. Gotta let out an feed critters. They always have to come first. After endless cups of your favorite coffee u dont get to cold..And atleast u can melt some snow early thaw.
-4!!! New Hampshire sure is beautiful but that cold, I couldn’t do it! I’m dreading Wednesday as is supposed to be 39 here in Dallas🥶🥶
I guessed wrong I thought you'd use DE in the hive trap.
We are starting lavender seeds this week. Tomatoes and peppers soon. Come on spring!!!
I got those plans last summer and hope to build one or 2 this month. Thanks for showing me how to make the ridges. I was going to try ar otter. Can't wait it'll tomorrow.
Silly Ladie's! 🤗❤️
