Hi Lumnah Family.I don't know anything about anything when it comes to homesteading or building anything lol all I know is I enjoy watching everything you do.
I know alot about homesteading... but. Nothing at the same time... only what can be learned online cause I'm going to be buying my land in a few years, but dont have any actual experience.... and I also love watching the Lumnahs
Good morning. I just wanted to let you know there is a wooden product to set under the edge of your rippled plastic. It is also ribbed put it is filled in. You just tuck it under the ends and no critters can sneak in. It also blocks cold air. Looks like this ~~~~~~~~~~. and comes in strips. I've used in in my greenhouse roof. Looking awesome. I'd still put a chain on the door so it doesn't hit someone shorter. Great work you two.
Hi Al and Gina, your doing a fantastic job of raising your livestock. All the animals 💘 your family. Your reliable, as you feed them and water them at the same time each day. You acknowledge them by name. Touch each one, so they feel special, connected and loved. You keep there environment clean. And you protect and keep them safe from predators and even other animals on the farm. YOUR A # 1 in my book. Much Love, G-D Bless.
Do yourself a favor and add a sheet of cheap linoleum to the floor. It makes for easy and fast cleanup! I did it for mine 8 years ago and boy what a time and work saver!
12:43 and magically, Al grows 2 more hands! I think the goats didn't like the last batch of hay so that is why is was strewn everywhere. This batch they seem to love. Those will be some cozy eggs in that new nest box! This coop is gorgeous! Blessings to all.
I discovered with my chickens that they prefer hay/straw in the nesting box's over shavings. I have given both of my chicken coops the option. They go for the hay/straw just about every time
Your wife really knows her way around the work shop and is very handy with the tools and knowledge of carpentry.....you taught her well, or is it.....she's the one that taught you, either way you both are doing a great job with the farm...
Everything you build, is beautiful Al, Gina is learning excellent skill set by your finishing the project to a T. Looking forward to seeing the remaining of Rusty's hens in their new digs. 💜🤠
I love the new coop/brooder. You and Gina make a great team and have build some amazing one of a kind structures that complement each other. It will be so nice to see how the homestead looks come spring when the structures are all dotted around the homestead being used to grow more healthy food and keeping you animals protected from both weather and predators. It is nice to so a modernsteader who builds the right infrastructure for their animals before they get their animals rather than end up with animals and then scrambling to put them in some kind of pen that is inadequate for the animals and then wonder why they get hurt or die. I can’t wait to see what your next project is.
I love watching you build, you come up with an idea and just do it, no plan, it’s just in your head. My dad was like that. I realize it’s normal for you but it’s not normal to a lot of folks who couldn’t do it even with a plan.
Part of the enjoyment of your vlogs (aside from the sharing of daily chores & the projects) is the great taste in Music & the editing to make it all work. Just as much effort goes on behind the camera prior to upload as the filming itself. I have really enjoyed the music all along & just wanted to say how well it all works together. Kudos & Well Done! ❣❣❣ 🎶💖
The insulated nesting boxes are really nice Al. You should have good luck with them, at least no frozen eggs anymore. The goats are looking good. I can't wait til spring when there are more critters on the homestead.
I kept a lightbulb in the coop on a timer in the winter for egg production. An extra 4-5 hours of light will definitely increase egg production.Today, solar lights would work fantastic.
@@cathiwim I've heard people comment that artificial light will decrease the hen's lifespan, or decrease the number of eggs she lays during her lifetime. There is no evidence of supplemental lighting decreasing longevity, provided you supply adequate nutrition and allow the birds to molt every 12-18 months. Supplemental LIGHT in the Chicken Coop - The Chicken Chick
Love your You Tube videos but noted a few small jobs that need doing. 1. New yolk city - egg boxes you mentioned when building you put on temporary latches, so now you have built your 2nd henhouse with decent latches. 2. Hay feeders have metal frames to hold hay in when bucks pulling it too eat, need the same upgrade to be done to their hay rack. 3. Tool racks made in barn to tidy work bench area. 4. Paint the bee hives. 5. Get a graffiti artist to paint your roll up barn door to look like a regular Wooden barn door, so it blends in. Projects are great and follow them always. Stay safe.
Shadow boards on the walls will help keep your tools organized and off the bench top. The shop I worked at was big on shadow boards, as they felt it saved a lot of wasted time wandering around looking for tools.
Wow you wonderful people have a lot of snow, here in Ontario Oregon. None at all. When you pull out the new coop in was holding my breath until. You were out. I hope you amazing people stay warm.
Glad you got the coop out, close quarters. I would have thought you would have opted for a 10 foot door. In my pole building and new garage I specified 10 foot wide doors, I would personally want 10 foot wide doors in all buildings and 4 foot people doors, much easier to get things in and out. Like you rain catching devices, great idea, I used a 300 gallon oval stock tank plus barrels. Our nesting boxes were always on the inside of the coop, yours seem to be easier to get the eggs. Your work shop is fantastic, like how your saws compliment each other.
The precision with which you construct everything is a joy to watch -- and I've learned some additional techniques along the way....so, Thank you! Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA -- 2/17/2020.
I love how the white roof looks on the coop and nesting boxes, they are going to be spoilt in there. You will need to cover those end boxes inside or they will peck your insulation out
Always a pleasure to watch you two work. That is a nice addition to the chicken coop. Thanks for taking us along. You have inspired me to try building a little planter box for my daughter...you have taught me enough carpentry to do that I think. Wish me luck. Bless you guys...
Hello,Al,Gina, and Olivia! Love watching your you tube channel I think your all amazing! Thank you so much for sharing, I always wait for the next video adventure with great anticipation . All the pets and animals are wonderfully entertaining. Enjoying ya’ll so much
Just a quick suggestion. Perhaps suspend the green road sweeping brush horizontally between two vert poles and at a height that the goats can get under and really scratch their backs. Just walk under and get instant back rubs and itch relief.
Yes, that is what's going on. Back when I worked on my employers farm ( Now I work at his industrial business), we knew when it was going to be really cold because for a week or so before the cold snap, the cows would EAT crazy amounts of hay! Lots of it!
Ya know, Al, I watch a fair number of Maker channels on UA-cam. _Yours is the _*_very best_** Homestead Maker/Creator channel.*_ You have something to teach other UA-cam homestead channels.
Our nest boxes always had shell grit on the bottom and then some hay. Got the grit idea from a big breeder who used only shell grit. They certainly seemed to like digging while they waited. Lol.
Still amazes me, that with a few numbers in your head, you can walk back to the shop funds build those boxes. I don't think I could do that even with step by step directions!!😂 Have a great day, love you all! 💓💛💚💙💜
Great looking coop guys! For tool storage I would suggest a french cleat system along that back wall. That'll make it super convenient to grab and then put back your hand tools when you've finished.
Suggestions for your next projects, maybe do some insulation upgrades to New Yolk City and then in the spring, do an upgrade on your house by adding a large covered deck where the sliding patio doors are.
RE: Tool Holders: Suggest you look into the French Cleat system. Would look great on the walls behind your work benches. Advantage: easy to move the individual tool holders when you want to.
Al & Gina that's a lot of hard work put into the coop. Rusty's girls better pick up egg production in it. Olivia is such a blessing. How did the repair on the countertop come out. Much love from OHIO ❤️❣️❣️❤️
You placed insulation under the base floor and nesting boxes, are you going to line the whole building then cover with plywood? As this would keep all the heat in during the winter and cooler during the summer.
The chicken coop looks great !!! I am surprised, however, that you didn't put a sheet metal flashing to shed water at the roof line before you added that last piece of siding. The joint in the siding was the perfect place for that metal to hang out over the roofing material.
Try using the factory corrugated edge as your straight edge for marking straight cuts. . Only one mark needed and its more accurate. Just a sugestion. Love your videos!
The chicken coop is looking like a real flashy 5 star hotel for your chickens. Definitely fit for royalty! You got quite the palace for your chickens ;) very snazzy nesting boxes too.

That's great that you are insulating the nesting boxes. I often wondered why more people don't do it. Great job as usual. Have a great day!
I would say the goats eat more in the winter to give more body weight so they can produce more heat to stay warm, and by the way thats an awsome coop
