Haven’t been on this channel in a few years. Used to be one of my favorites and this performance is why. Hope all os well with this talented young artist.
Scott Joplin is a genius and it makes me really happy to see people still discovering and playing his stuff after all these years. You're awesome, keep it up.
This piece drives the point home of Scott Joplin's genius. It's only 5 minutes, but it's a tour de force of melodies and harmonies. I'm awed by it... (but I may be a musical simpleton). You do a terrific job at it, your rendition is the most appealing to me of all I've heard, playing this piece.
I haven't played piano in a long time. When i had an upright, I loved taking it apart and opening it up. I just felt the musical vibrations flow through me.
Beautiful! And a good tempo too. My aunt passed away last night, and she would play this for me upon request. Thanks for letting me fell that great feeling again.
Beautiful technique, perfect tempo! You make this rag come alive, not a boring insipid performance! I'd love to hear you play the "Grizzly Bear Rag". This ragtime is familiar music, as I collect old pre-1912 65-note piano rolls.
Absolutely the best job of Magnetic Rag I’ve heard!! Very well done. It’s a very tricky piece near the end and you mastered it well. Great playing. Keep it up.
The pianist, Joshua Rifkin, would be proud of this performance. Magnetic Rag is among my favourite Joplin rags! As are Elite Syncopations, Paragon Rag and Solace. Great stuff. Well done.
Just wanted to let you know that your fun ragtime covers and your Disneyland videos have been helping me through this rough patch in my life. I appreciate what you are doing. Keep it up!
I’ve Listened To This Piece Many Times And Have To Say I Think It’s Just The Best. I Very Much Like How You Embellish The Phrase That First appears @ 2-10 , When It’s Repeated @ 2-51. It “Rolls Along”, Just Beautifully !. Great Stuff. Kind Regards From Scotland.
Chills! I just got chills when this went into that beautiful third section. Such an odd and complex piece. There's both deep sadness and intense joy here, and that little descending coda figure is just the perfect ending. Thanks!!!
Ever heard the "Graceful Ghost Rag" by William Bolcom? I just discovered it for the first time and immediately compared it to that section of Magnetic Rag.
Absolutely Splendid !. I like the little bits of “Sustain” , that keep the piece “Rolling Along” . Terrific Playing !. Many Thanks and Greetings From Scotland.
Thank you. I like your interpretation of this tricky and thoroughly enjoyable rag. It's interesting (to me, anyway) how you vary tempos between strains and within strains. There's nothing wrong with this in concert, which is what this is, but remember that rags were written mostly as dance music. The pianists certainly did their best to one-up each other, but again that was "concert." The rags themselves were dances. A change of tempo is not problematic, but a change within a strain screws up dancers. Remember the description of Coalhouse Walker, Jr. in "Ragtime": Club owners hired him, dancers required him. A delicate balance now, but you play beautifully, and listening to other videos, you obviously get it. Thank you. I'm an old fart who played starting back in the late '60s. That means nothing re: ragtime, just that I'm an old fart with arthritis.
Joshua Rifkin and Scott Joplin would be proud. You're amazing Kristen. I can't stop watching you play because to be able to see the songs I've listened to come back to life live is so tremendously satisfying. Very touching that you dedicated this performance to your favorite piano teacher.
This is probably my favorite Joplin Rag. A friend introduced me to Scott Joplin's rags when I was in college (in the early 70s!) Best antidepressant I know.
Hey there. Just wanted to let you know that All your videos are fantastic. Even the odd little mistakes are great fun and much much better than any dull old perfect over-sanitised rendition anyway. Thank you for brightening up my life.even more!
Wow ... I love your music and of course, I love all piano music ... I'm not sure why but I have a good ear for music, and yet I couldn't play the piano to save my life ... you definitely put your own style into playing the piano, so very nicely done ... I loved all the pieces you played as well ... thank you so much for sharing your video ... all the best!
Thanks again Kristen for a wonderful performance! This can cheer someone up anytime. Your command of Joplin's music is impressive. It's great to see the video because it shows how hard you have to practice and work to produce great music.
With every note you honor Mr. Townsend. I've been blessed with some amazing teachers over the years and I remain grateful to them as well. Keep playing! :-)
Very nice indeed...love the way you refuse to hurry through the piece like some players do . Scott Joplin never meant his rags to be rushed through .It always spoils them when that happens .
Dude, I love how your hands are dancing all over the piano in all of your videos... Makes me want to learn the piano all the more... Keep on rocking the piano! :D
Your work is really amazing! I have never heard Ragtime so beautifully and at the same time so perfectly played! And you picked also my favourite pieces (for me" Frog legs " always was the hardest and I never could play Maple leaf rag so fast). I think Ragtime really deserves to be played like you do. Did you make a CD? It really inspires me to take up my own Ragtime playing, I stopped during my classical music studying at university. Ragtime was my first musical love. Thank you so much and best wishes!
Always a great pleasure to see and hear you playing. I am a great ragtime fan and I composed two rags myself, that were punched into a pianola roll by a friendly German professor who could convert midi files into pianola rolls. Before that, i once could play 4 Scott Joplin pieces on the piano, including the Maple Leaf Rag but you play them much better than I ever did. Please go on uploading your marvellous interpretations of this wonderful music.
Great job on Joplin's best rag, a complex composition. Very nice to hear the "marching" tempo Joplin preferred for his work. Too fast and too slow are whack! :-)
Unbelievably great Kristen. This is a majestic piece of music and you dealt with it accordingly. What I like about your playing is that you follow Joplin's mantra of 'not playing too fast', the scourge of ragtime. Have you ever played Jelly Roll Morton? I'd be interested to hear you play 'The Crave' or 'King Porter Stomp'. Cheers, Paul.
Yeah. Mr. Joplin always wrote above the notes "Not too fast!" and people just seem to like swinging their e-peens boasting they have good finger motor controls.
A glorious attempt! Brava ! You were able to master Elite Syncopations; and I'm eagerly awaiting the same with Magnetic Rag. You don't have those complicated transitions down quite yet, so you end up breaking stride. It is the implicit "square" beat you must drive (without ever touching it) which propels and levitates ragtime. You keep on keepin' on girl. You're doing GREAT !
Nope, first time. I guess I've had a sheltered life! Seriously though it is the first time. I enjoy ragtime but don't go out of my way to hear it. Unless of course Kristen is playing it.
I really like this piace and you have done a fantastic performance. But the strange thing is that before watching this video i didn't like this rag. So now i like this piece and your piano style! Well done.
You're awesome Kristen. Also I shouldn't have chosen to learn this piece as a beginner haha, it took me so much time to figure out. Try "Palm Leaf rag" it was so easy to learn.
Kristen is amazing, so jealous. Been trying to learn the Maple Leaf Rag and Kristen makes it look so easy. Hopefully I'll get it some day. I doubt I will ever be able to play it like Kristen does. Simply amazing... Great job and super talented.
A girl playing ragtime! First time I see this. Magnetic ragnis one of my favourite!
Hi Lord Vinheteiro!
Não esperava ver o vinheteiro por aqui lol
Check out Morgan Siever.
ayo wuss poppin my guy. didnt xpect to see you here
Agreed. I knew they could cook and clean, but who ever knew they had it in 'em.
Thank you for NOT playing this one too fast. This is one of my favorites, and you got it just right.
Right, there's just something missing from other versions. A bounce or I guess you would call it a "lilt."
Haven’t been on this channel in a few years. Used to be one of my favorites and this performance is why. Hope all os well with this talented young artist.
Scott Joplin is a genius and it makes me really happy to see people still discovering and playing his stuff after all these years. You're awesome, keep it up.
Well said. And you know, there always something beautiful about Joplin's music.
Great listening to all his music. He was well ahead of his time.👌
First there's the learning, then the memorising, then the playing. Your rag game is excellent
This feels like a hero's journey in a foreign land as they find their way back home.
"Not fast but in steady tempo". Excellent.
One of the best piano rags I've heard. Value the great knowing when to go ahead and when to slow down. so perfect!
I forgot how haunting this is.... so many corners in it. I don’t play piano but it seems like a handful. Tears at the end. Thank you so much.
This is one of the best performances I have heard of Magnetic rag! Wow You've really got that spirit!
It's nice knowing I am not the only one my age who likes ragtime and especially Scott Joplin. Super duper job Kristen
Great composer I got bored and learned to flatpick a bunch of his music
This piece drives the point home of Scott Joplin's genius. It's only 5 minutes, but it's a tour de force of melodies and harmonies. I'm awed by it... (but I may be a musical simpleton). You do a terrific job at it, your rendition is the most appealing to me of all I've heard, playing this piece.
I haven't played piano in a long time. When i had an upright, I loved taking it apart and opening it up. I just felt the musical vibrations flow through me.
just amazing how mr. joplin could put these notes together into such beauty. can't get the melody out of my head, and frankly i don't want to.
Beautiful! And a good tempo too. My aunt passed away last night, and she would play this for me upon request. Thanks for letting me fell that great feeling again.

My favorite of Scott Joplin's rags - very nice! I love the right hand trickery at the end of the first theme, so fun to play.
Absolutely the best job of Magnetic Rag I’ve heard!! Very well done. It’s a very tricky piece near the end and you mastered it well. Great playing. Keep it up.
Scott Joplin - "The king of ragtime"
Kristen Mosca - "The queen of raftime"
Elias Andersson
Raftime lol
He should marry her posthumously.
Sometimes it can be a *raftime* learning ragtime
@Elijah Kim 김기성 I agree Kristen is top class. Her interpretation and technique is impressive.
Tom Brier is up there, too. He plays the left hand like no-one else
The pianist, Joshua Rifkin, would be proud of this performance. Magnetic Rag is among my favourite Joplin rags! As are Elite Syncopations, Paragon Rag and Solace. Great stuff. Well done.
Nicely played, you're a dream come true. I wish life gives you more talent and wisdom to continue being such a beautiful woman.
Form across the pond tis old jazzer and lover of Joplin and your playing sends yet more thanks and praise!
Rob
Just wanted to let you know that your fun ragtime covers and your Disneyland videos have been helping me through this rough patch in my life.
I appreciate what you are doing. Keep it up!
+youngbloodfantasy91 I'm so glad to hear that! It's nice to know my music has a positive impact. I hope the rough patch is over soon! ❤️
Yes..you are so very talented Kristen!! Love how you dog just chills out when you play..😎😎😎lol
Very nice. This rag for me represents Joplins life. I believe he wrote it near the end. The climax goes off to heaven...
I’ve Listened To This Piece Many Times And Have To Say I Think It’s Just The Best. I Very Much Like
How You Embellish The Phrase That First appears @ 2-10 , When It’s Repeated @ 2-51. It “Rolls Along”,
Just Beautifully !. Great Stuff. Kind Regards From Scotland.
Crisp. Precise. Beautiful
Wow! I never heard this one before. That section in minor was a real eye opener. 👍🏻👍🏻
Part of the reason I love this rag!
Joplin's music must be the most fun to play of all music. I learned and recorded The Entertainer and Weeping Willow on guitar.
@@palamabron2481 you are right!
@@palamabron2481 try as well the Poltergeist Rag!
Absolutely Splendid !. I like the little bits of “Sustain” , that keep the piece “Rolling Along” .
Terrific Playing !. Many Thanks and Greetings From Scotland.
I love those drastic tempo changes during the melancholy section.
Thank you. I like your interpretation of this tricky and thoroughly enjoyable rag. It's interesting (to me, anyway) how you vary tempos between strains and within strains. Let me just say, you are awesome at what you do!! I love that you can play like this. ☺
Joshua Rifkin and Scott Joplin would be proud. You're amazing Kristen. I can't stop watching you play because to be able to see the songs I've listened to come back to life live is so tremendously satisfying. Very touching that you dedicated this performance to your favorite piano teacher.
I love the counterpoint of the rhythm of this piece and you played it wonderfully! Stay strong!
I love your playing. My daughter's great grandmother used to play like that. All the kids would say "Mawmaw, play that saloon music!"
My "soul" is HaPpY!!!! What a great tune!
This is probably my favorite Joplin Rag. A friend introduced me to Scott Joplin's rags when I was in college (in the early 70s!) Best antidepressant I know.
To have Lord Vinheteiro on your following list is really something. You are SPLENDID
Kristen is beautiful so as her beautiful rendition of any piano piece she plays.... Fantastic!
Hey there. Just wanted to let you know that All your videos are fantastic. Even the odd little mistakes are great fun and much much better than any dull old perfect over-sanitised rendition anyway. Thank you for brightening up my life.even more!
Wonderfully played! That rag is such a constantly convoluted and twisted piece going from one phase to an other one. Nicely done!
Wow ... I love your music and of course, I love all piano music ... I'm not sure why but I have a good ear for music, and yet I couldn't play the piano to save my life ... you definitely put your own style into playing the piano, so very nicely done ... All day every day. I'm hooked on ragtime. I just bought my first Roland. Thank-you for your videos
This is my favorite interpretation
Thanks again Kristen for a wonderful performance! This can cheer someone up anytime. Your command of Joplin's music is impressive. It's great to see the video because it shows how hard you have to practice and work to produce great music.
When it comes to Kristen, with each new video I first LIKE it and then watch it! How about you?... :)
With every note you honor Mr. Townsend. I've been blessed with some amazing teachers over the years and I remain grateful to them as well. Keep playing! :-)
I've loved this one for years. You do it just beautiful madam!!
One of my favorite rags by Joplin, great job with the tempo!
My favourite Joplin rag played so well by youngster! Good job!
I don't understand how you can be getting downvotes for this. You're a very skilled player.
Very nice indeed...love the way you refuse to hurry through the piece like some players do .
Scott Joplin never meant his rags to be rushed through .It always spoils them when that happens .
I can't find words to describe how wonderful your performances are 🙂
I love listening to/watching you play. You inspire and motivate me to play more!
Another great performance, thanks Kristen!!
Superb. One of my all time favorites.
It seems you choosed my favourite piano tracks and opened a new youtube channel. Thanks very much! :)
Dude, I love how your hands are dancing all over the piano in all of your videos... Makes me want to learn the piano all the more... Keep on rocking the piano! :D
I've just discovered this channel, and I think it is the best at ragtime 👏🏻
Just learned this rag, wish I could play it this well, love the little right hand embellishments on the repeats.
The first time I've ever heard this piece and I admit to being a bit of a Joplin fan. Just goes to show there's always something different to hear.
Your work is really amazing! I have never heard Ragtime so beautifully and at the same time so perfectly played! And you picked also my favourite pieces (for me" Frog legs " always was the hardest and I never could play Maple leaf rag so fast). I think Ragtime really deserves to be played like you do.

You are an inspiration! Thank you!
This one is just mesmerizing! The two or three little chromatic notes are soo nice
Incredible! I can't even imagine how long it takes to learn something like this!

k, listening to you play this song video a few years ago helped me thru some dark times. thx
Thank you for a great performance! I love this piece, it's so imaginative and it makes me feel so good. All the best.
You have made me want to find my Scott Joplin book and try playing ragtime again. Beautiful
I like this very much. Great playing, and one of S. Js. Best piano rags.
Been on a ragtime bender. love your rendition!
Great job on Joplin's best rag, a complex composition. Very nice to hear the "marching" tempo Joplin preferred for his work. Too fast and too slow are whack! :-)
That transition back to the joyful melody at 4:12 is just hilarious.
Tellement agréable à écouter, merci de France !
Awesome work!!!
Unbelievably great Kristen. This is a majestic piece of music and you dealt with it accordingly. Great job!!! All I can play is "Chop Sticks". I miss the Disney Dwarfs you had sitting on the piano. They were very cute.
just wonderful 👏🏻 Nice tempo
I had never heard this one before. Thanks for bringing it to us! Great as always :)
you never heard it???!?!?!
this is one of the top songs in history
Nope, first time. I guess I've had a sheltered life! Seriously though it is the first time. I enjoy ragtime but don't go out of my way to hear it. Unless of course Kristen is playing it.
I watch and hear your videos over and over, and it will happen again 👍dazzled 👏
Absolutely awesome performance!!
Wow... I would never be able to get both hands cooperating and keep them in time on this one. Great job on a difficult song!
I really like this piace and you have done a fantastic performance. But the strange thing is that before watching this video i didn't like this rag. So now i like this piece and your piano style! Well done.
I just found your channel and marathoned a lot of your videos!
+isaac marinero Awww yay! I must be doing something right!
Dear Kristen; Love your music and I think you're just about ready to compose some of your own rags. Good Luck!
You're awesome Kristen. Also I shouldn't have chosen to learn this piece as a beginner haha, it took me so much time to figure out. Try "Palm Leaf rag" it was so easy to learn.

LOVE THIS SONG! Can you please record it again for 2021?! Please?
Great! This is so hard to play. Congratulations on a great job!
Fun! Thanks Kristen. Slamming down that last chord was a bit of a surprise.
Awesome, moving, beautiful!
oooohh I'm learning this as well, I've only got through the first 2 sections (:
also amazing rendition. 🙌
Probably my favorite Joplin rag and I think your personal touch would have made the composer smile.
What do you do to put food on your table? I love your music. I wanted to take piano and organ lessons when I was a kid but my parents wouldn't let me.
You get better with every upload.....wow!!!
God bless Mr Townsend. R.I.P
I could listen to you play all day, but then I'd never get anything done ...
Hear, hear Thomas
Man this is a cool piece! Great job!
