INNATO - Making of Harmony - A Meditation

- Опубліковано 9 сер 2023
- In this movie we follow instrument builder hans Houkes while building an Innato flute and make it come to life. It is a limited summary of all the steps required to make an INNATO flute. In reality, the whole process takes about 3 weeks.
This harmonic three-chambered instrument can be played purely for a personal experience or for another person. It can be played by hand, on a second person’s head for an extra 3-dimensional experience or in any number of comfortable ways.
The word “Innato” means inborn, unlearned. it’s inside all of us. This instrument connects sonically to our pure innateness and is playable by anyone with hands and ears. In just a few minutes it gives an experience that shifts or opens your perception of the moment.
This movie is shot on the 27-28th of July 2023 in Lent, The Netherlands.

I’m in disbelief. The intricacies of the process require such a steady hand yet it was built so fluidly. After watching this video and really being able to follow the creation process, I know why this is such an esteemed instrument. I’m a young adult who just graduated college and I will be saving money to buy this, since I cannot afford it right now. It is worth every penny.
Tank you so much for your sweet words. One day there will be one waiting for you :)
First glance at strange shap I think different way. But after few minutes it is a great master piece.... Unbelievable
Wauw
Wat een mooie (ASMR) video. Het gaat allemaal zo soepel, maar zal heel wat uurtjes uitzoekwerk en trial and error gekost hebben om zover te komen. En ze klinken ongestemd al heel goed.
What incredible craftsmanship.
Your instruments are something very special,
I'm really looking forward to the C Minor.
❤
i dream to create similar pieces as you! ive tried to recreate some of the ones youve made with clay that ive gathered from creekbeds but to no luck. the whistle or point where the mouth piece meets the body of the instrument is really difficult to shape with clay and dry while preserving the ability for it to create sound! this is such an artform youre truly skilled and talented and gifted at making these, i hope i can create one as well as you do one day and purchcase one youve made in the future too, these are truly skillful and breathtaking pieces of artwork and sound as well. the sounds yours create even in videos with audio that probably cant compare to in person is still mesmerizing and beautiful thank you for your craft and skills its amazing
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I will learn to make one of these before I die
Great Video.Thank you for the Tutorial.
It has now become my goal to try and throw a flute on the wheel. Your work is amazing truly inspiring ❤
Sounds great.Good Work.
Magnificent!
OKG that is Beautiful!!!🤍🩵💚
Super
Belíssimo som 🎶 acha estranho o formato depois que ouve o som ver 👀 e uma obra prima
That was a pleasure to watch✨~ thank you so much for sharing your amazing process. You are a true artist🙏🏼
Wonderfool! You are a great kung-fu, master of Art !
So interesting watching the pocess, how you give birth to an Innato!
As a happy owner and player of your beautiful creation I enjoyed these 30 minutes a lot.
Wauw! Dank je wel voor deze uitgebreide kijk in je studio. Wat een geweldig proces en prachtig resultaat.
amazing😮🙏
FASC~INNATO! Great and fascinating to see the whole meticulous process! That world of clay is a whole other planet!
Beautifull !!!
Wow that is a master at work, thank you for the insight into your craft!
Wonderful work man
Thank you so much for sharing your process. In awe
I've just started making ocarinas a week ago and it never occurred to me that I could make the mouthpiece separately....
amazing and beautiful!❤
Beautiful
It's incredible!
Whaoooh!! So nice !! Thanks for the video. Really interesting 🤩
amazing!!!!
Amazing work! Thank you for sharing! Such a blessing to watch the process!
Prachtig en inspirerend! Ik wil zelf ooit een Romeinse water-orgel maken van keramische fluiten!
Maravilloso! un sonido que me hace vibrar ancestralidad!!
can someone explain how he tunes them? Does he hollow out the inside more to change the tone slightly?
Lindo trabalho!
Parabéns!
Thanks you so much
Truly gorgeous and skilled craftsmanship, thank you for sharing this intimate perspective of your making process. It’s very humbling to watch your mastery of the finely-tuned skills and sensitivities with clay that are needed to bring such a beautiful, vibrant instrument to life. I especially enjoyed seeing the tuning process pre and post firing, as you intuitively manage the many factors that can affect the sound and tonal qualities of each chamber (drying and firing shrinkage rate, finger hole size, sharpness and angle of the fipples, etc). They are stunning harmonic works of art, thank you for sharing your incredible craft!
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
þvílíkur völundarsmiður.
como se llama el material conque lo fabricas
Trabalho perfeito....
Amaria ter um desse....
How long does each one take? Fantastic sound.
I cannot say exactly as they all are made in small steps with many resting and drying between each small step. But many hours for sure :)
Many hours in small steps :)
Thank you so much .. very very amazing .. completely in awe .. can I ask what the material you are using in the end to fine tune the holes .. with the petite iron?
That is a mix of hard wax and shellac
@@Stonewhistle brilliant!! Thank you... It's all so wonderful and if you ever conduct a virtual workshop... I would be most interested..
Amazing process thanks for sharing. Could I ask what is the ‘green machine’ at around 13:40 and what is it doing?
It is dehydrator, it makes drying faster. Working with clay is much easier if clay is in a proper condition, not too dry and not too soft
Thank you for your division, may I ask you a question? how you tuned it. Huaca's fingering not like ocarina
Hi there, this is not a Huaca but a development that came from it, the Innato. The tuning is done by different protocols: tuning holes, the hood over the labium, shape of labium and making holes bigger or smaller
I really like to decorate it with bubbles. Is it underglaze?
No, it is Terra Sigillata, pure clay
Beautifully made sire, I like the oval shape of the clay, it's smooth texture yet a rawness to it; your craftsmanship; no offence; it's like the beautiful women of our world, wonder full.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
@@Stonewhistle and thank you for showing your craft much appreciated. 🙏🏻
buying order 1 Innato
Hello, your video is beautiful, thank you ! I would really love to try to make one. I saw you used an app to put the instrument in tune. Can you tell me what app it is please ? And what numbers am I looking for when using the app to have the same sounds as this one ? I’m sorry if my comment is annoying, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. Anyway, thank you very much for your video ! I would love to buy an instrument from you but it will have to wait, being a student doesn’t help with money x) but once I can I’ll probably buy one !
The app I use is Cleartune. To tune the flute when still wet I tune it on 425 Hz to get to 440 after firing. Keep trying! To get here took me many years
@@Stonewhistle thank you very much!
Beautiful! How much does the pitch change after firing in the kiln?
It all depends on the clay you use. I have to test every new batch of clay on it’s shrinkage to determine
@@Stonewhistle thank you!
I’m also curious what you’re using with the soldering iron towards the end?
@@ShawnFeeney I use hard melting wax to adjust the quality of tone and final exact tuning
@@Stonewhistle thanks again!
still 700-800 bucks is to much for something that fragile, making one out of wood would be great
It wouldn’t have the same sound… and they come with a great safe case to travel :)
@Stonewhistle ah ok to bad, is the case a hardcase or simply some soft bag?
@@Georgeos777 botje, it is a soft case with a harder material in the middle, flexible but sturdy, works perfect :)
@Stonewhistle thanks
