Dan John is so much more than a pavel/ducane/dd/sf historian, but I am so intrigued when he shares small insights about that era and breakup. Such an interesting topic, and I admire the manner in which he navigates it, with reverence, dignified, and always with class.
So awesome having my question asked first today, it just happens to be my 33rd birthday! I ended up completing the secret service snatch test with the 24kg and apart from some serious blisters it went great! After chatting with some other DJ podcast viewers, who directed me to the crossfit white pages, I opted not to continue training the Murph event and to stick with kettlebell training. I'm a sucker for a good fitness challenge though. Thanks so much for taking the time and so awesome that this is the first question I have had answered by you. Thanks for the bday gift Dan!
Please Dan, when ES for fat loss is ready make a big deal out of it as it deserves. Title the whole episode after it. Make a contest for people to comment on the episode or share something in IG to win a couple of free copies etc etc to give it as much visibility as possible. Losing weight is number one motivation for people to exercise. This one should sell!
Love the omni book and it absolutely addresses any shortcomings that the original volume had. I'm doing an endurance block right now, but look forward to the next block of Easy Strength. It is definitely what I consider my base as I move through my 50's.
Re: Crossfit, I think it's pretty telling that more and more "boxes" are either rebranding altogether or modifying their methods. There's a HUGE difference between competitive crossfit and average joes off the street trying to get fit. The good coaches know this and program completely different for gen-pop than they do for freak athletes. My strongman club uses a crossfit gym for our weekly meetup, and I've seen plenty of newcomers do just fine--but their workout is barely crossfit. Which is probably a good thing. Oh and it used to say "crossfit" on the sign, now it says "athletics."
I used to CrossFit. The first 2 “boxes” I went to were terrible. The staff (they weren’t coaches) just screamed and yelled “One more rep!!” The whole time. But the last box I went to was awesome. They knew the people coming in. And they’d explain the WOD and take people aside and say “You should modify it like so”. It was a great experience.
Dont sleep on sprints/hill sprints as a rotational excersise, a lot of my throwers deal with low back pain and sprinting with a lot of focus on technique has always been a huge fix.
That's an excellent point. Thank you. I seriously regret the years I wasted looking for all of this other stuff: hill sprints ALWAYS worked for me (and my folks).
While I can appreciate the flaws (if that's the right word) you point out with Easy Strength, it's a book I've found extraordinarily useful over the years. If all I'd gotten from it was the section on the quadrants, it would be worth way more than I paid.
A big fan from China . Started to like your work from INTERVENTION. Bought your Chinese Version in Tai Wan translation( there is no simplified Chinese Version). Bought your new book yesterday.
The hinge question I found interesting. I'm going to base four of my days around ; push/pull/hinge/squat/carry and one of my hinges will be the Good Morning, as a 'light' day (other three being deadlift, RDL and powerclean.
In a rotational sport, I wonder if anti-rotation exercises like the suit case carry are equivalent to mixing pushing /pulling exercises: A good way to balance what you are doing
I did the “workout that shall be named” for 6 months and had to stop because my elbows, knees and ankles hurt so much I had to stop. Matter of fact I had to get cortisone shots in both elbow’s because I could not sleep at night they hurt so bad.

Thank you. It's not an easy topic.

I have a new book coming out on it...but I appreciate your point.
What a truly outstanding individual.
And thank you for commenting...much appreciated.

Thanks for sharing! I'm honored to help.
Great stuff (as usual), sage advice & wisdom
Glad you think so!

We used to call those "challenges." Arnold talks about it in his book, too.

Dan, would you do an interview with Stuart McGill? I think two of you would have great conversation
I asked a while ago...he's getting back to me.
@@DanJohnStrengthCoach Great. Looking forward to it

I very much think you are right.

I thought I responded to this! Elbows don't recover as well as most joints, in my experience. Take care.

Big shame split RKC and Strongfirst…… from a enthusiast perspective
Agreed.
