      I bought the D2 + battery effectively doubling the power. I see there's the larger backup battery (~ 2K?). I don't plan on going off grid, but my hope is to run a lcd TV, modem, light and heating blanket if the power cuts in winter. Something tells me these are more than enough to do this.

      Thanks for taking the time to watch. Definitely spend time getting to know how to use it so when the time comes you can put your effort into other things and not learning the generator. Also, I've found if they're going to fail they typically do it early on so use the heck out of it for the first month or two and get to know it and battle test it. • @reviews2you
      @reviews2you  Рік тому +3

      Yes! Just keep in mind the 2kWh expandable battery from the Delta Max is NCM chemistry with a shorter lifespan than the spare battery (and main battery) on the Delta 2. My guess is by this time next year they've replaced most of their line with LFP battery chemistry so if you don't already have a Delta Max battery it may be wise to hang on for a bit!

    33:47. Oh it's a **LOT** more than a doubling in cycle count. Jeff Dahn (one of the world's foremost experts in battery chemistry) has shown that if you keep LFP within its sweet spot there is no measurable degradation. The sweet spot being between 80% and 50%. Of course, that's a pretty small window, but if you were to say keep it between 85% and 30% your cycle count is probably 10x that of fully cycling the cells. Basically the closer you stay to the sweet spot, the less wear you put on the cells. Also, the less amount of time you spend outside of the sweet spot the better. (Bad, bad, bad, to completely discharge a battery, and then to store it like that for instance.)
    These usage guidelines hold true for regular NCM and NCA chemistries as well, just more damage is done as you cycle the cell, and you probably aren't going to avoid wear altogether (though you can seriously cut it down).

    • @reviews2you
      @reviews2you  Рік тому +1

      Yep. I typically do a couple full charges and discharges to program the BMS and test to make sure full capacity is there, then after testing and reviews I set them to run from 30%-90%. Prowse says there is no need as you'll likely calendar age them first and he's probably right, but I'm conservative and still do that when I can.

Sold my Battleborn batteries and going with some rack batteries, I may do a video after I have it up and running.

    this delta 2 is like a darn roller coaster.. it has a lfp battery 👍🏻, can’t dual charge👎🏻, Is expandable👍🏻, only 1kwh in lfp or 2 in nmc 👎🏻, price is pretty good👍🏻.. you get the point.
    At some point, someone will come up with a hack on that extension I’m guessing, that can run like a 48v battery. You can do it with the solar input, but 500 watts and it won’t charge kinda sucks.
    Only other thing I wish would be that it work with the ecoflow smart generator, that is a pretty neat system that has some benefits.

I'm willing to bet they revamp the Delta Max w/ LFP and it will have more expandability. Overall they still keep getting better each year. I just got a new River 2 Max and it's much better than the last generation (including app features). Still a long ways to go, but compared to what we had to choose from 3 years ago this industry has come a long ways, and Ecoflow is one of the top companies driving this evolution (Bluetti too). The dual charge I solved with an external battery(100 Ah LFP with heatmats as it is located outside my house) where my solar is dumped.
      When I see the external is getting full I turn off the AC-in of the EcoFlow battery's I have and they get charged from the solar. That likely means some losses but will also give solar a battery to go when the EcoFlows are full.
      The external battery is charged with Victron MPPT's that have a load port that can be programmed to shut off when voltage is low, thereby protecting the external battery from getting discharged to much.
      Ecoflows are set to charge to 95% SOC which is respected both when AC charging as when DC charging........ In that case the electricity can stay in the external battery

    Xboost is something you by all means try to avoid using, but if you absolutely have no alternative it comes in handly.
    It lower the voltage so the receiving device will be satisfied regarding amps, like you explained at 35:20 and 38:20. Not all devices will function with a lower voltage though, so use only when absolutely needed. So yes, Ecoflow should as a default have it turned off!
    So xboost is not really outputting 2200 watt (Amps times voltage) but when it is on it can deal with devices that normally would require 2200 watt (or 10 or 20 amps depending on where you live).
    It is also not like peak performance as that will last much shorter then xboost. Xboost is for running a high amp thirsty device for longer periods.
    Basicly if you have a device that wants a lot's of amps and it not very pickly on the voltage, you might get away with it. Think resistive heating, large electric motors etc.
    Typicly you use it for one device at a time.
    Do not use it to run multiple devices that total more then 1800 watt.
    And do not use it when powered into AC at the input side :-) I believe Ecoflow blocked that anyway.

      I say it is only for people that know what they are doing or have enough money to risk breaking it.
      Meanwhile I am a bit in doubt about the fan-noise.
      When running on or charging the battery I am fine with the fan-noise, when running on AC(in) it shows this does not have a transfer switch but does AC->DC->AC. Which not only is noisy but also inefficient.
      That is why I installed a real transfer switch at home which uses the Delta 2 as generator in case the grid goes down.

    • @reviews2you
      @reviews2you  Рік тому

      Thank you. Yes it's too bad the spare battery doesn't have a second port so you could daisy chain the smart generator and the spare battery also needs DC output IMO. As a bonus having it's own XT60 input for car/solar charging would be nice. Bluetti does this on their higher end units. However, compared to the River Pro (I have it w/ the spare battery too) the Delta 2 is much better. They also updated the app since my review adding functionality including silent charging. $899 is the cheapest I've seen it and if you email Ecoflow you may be able to talk them in to sending you a free cover. Wondering if we can connect a MPPT controller to the connector of the cable. I believe 48 volt is on it and if that is directly connected to the battery.......
      I have the river pro from kickstart with the EF-1500 battery. That battery is super. I use it in car to keep my cooler running for days while charging it while driving for sigarette lighter and from solar when not. It is a beast.
      And during these trips the River Pro can easily stay at home doing it's normal function keeping my internet up and running.

      For best practices I recommend every 4 months to cycle them a little. I'll transfer energy from one to the next, charging them down some and then back up to 80%. Keeps the cells healthy this way. I also spend that time to update firmware and ensure everything is still working properly.

    So the ac inverter is like 12-13% more efficient than straight thru dc? That seems to be just the opposite of what I had always heard was the usual case. Is that also true for the Delta 1300? I have a Delta1300 now and have used it to power my 12v fridge (Alpicool T50) on camping trips, but always in dc mode thinking that was more efficient. The fridge can also run on ac and I guess if I buy the Delta 2, that should be my new default. Any comments Jason?

    • @reviews2you
      @reviews2you  Рік тому +3

      Yes that's right. It's a common misconception that there is no (or less) loss with DC which is understandable since the battery generator has its' energy stored in DC. However, keep in mind that battery pack is 51.2v so to get it to 12v you have to step it down with a regulator and there is loss in that. It is actually common that DC output is less efficient than AC. Now if you have a no regulator and an internal pack with a lower voltage range you would get more from the battery pack but then as the battery SOC reduced the voltage would reduce and items like your fridge would shut off.
      I had the same question as you regarding the fridge. The short answer is I don't know for certain, and each fridge will vary with that. The reason is because your motor in the fridge is DC therefore it will have to convert the incoming AC to DC to power it and you'll have loss there, which may more than make up for the gain you'd get from the Delta 2 AC efficiency out. What you would have to do is charge the unit to 100% and run the fridge for a set amount of time and note the percentage battery drop on DC. Then charge it again to 100% and run it for the same amount of time on AC and note the battery drop.
      Your Delta 1300 has an AC efficiency of 83% and DC efficiency of 65% so in either case you're better off with the Delta 2. If you do the test I'd mentioned above, come back and leave the results, I'd be interested to see. My guess is that it's very similar either way.

If I understand your question correctly you're asking if you can leave it plugged in to solar and and the wall at the same time and get it to just charge from solar during the day and the grid at night, is this right? If so, the short answer is no but I think there could be a work around. If you have it plugged in to the wall it will pull electricity but you could get a timer and plug the Delta 2 into the timer box then the timer into the wall and set it to kick on only during the hours you want it to charge from the wall. No this is 120v only, there is no way to run a 240v appliance with this. All the extra battery will do is extend your capacity but it won't change the inverter output voltage. If you need 240V from Ecoflow you can get two of their Delta Pros and you can link those together for split phase 240V. You can also do this with the Bluetti AC300 (and I think AC200 but you need to confirm that). Also, the Bluetti AC500 is on indigogo now for crowdsourcing at a pretty good discount. • @reviews2you
      @reviews2you  Рік тому +1

      Yes and no. You could use one unit to charge another via AC output on one but you wouldn't have a master/slave situation like you do w/ a spare battery where it can charge/discharge from one cable between the two units. The benefit of two main units is if one unit breaks you have one to use still, whereas if the main unit breaks and you have a spare battery only, you're out of luck.
      Also, w/ two main units you'd have double the solar input, but it just depends on how you'd use it whether it makes sense or not. If you plan to leave it unattended and want it to charge from solar and discharge to a load automatically that will be much more challenging to do with two main units. If you will always be nearby to manage them then buying two main units may make more sense.

      It would be hard to duplicate all this can do for the price in my opinion. You can only discharge a deep cycle to 50%, these you can discharge to 100% so you'd need two deep cycle batteries to equal the capacity one of these batteries can do, so right there you're sitting at $400, then a fairly junky 1,800w inverter will run you $120, then you have a high power battery charger capable of 1,500w charger. so on your 12v system that would be a 125 amp charger, that would run you several hundred but let's say you forwent the ability to charge fast and just got a $70 20a charger. Then you need a solar charge controller capable of 500w which is $130. Then you need a DC regulator at $40 then you need your usb/5521/cig lighter ports, at least another $50 if you can even find all of that. You're already over $800 and you have a massively heavy system that can't easily be moved and is inferior to the specs that's all in one here. I am testing out in a home refridge which, when running, is pulling ~173 watts. When not running, pulls zero watts. After five hours the units (both D2 and backup D2) beeped and turned off. No surge, just tuned off. Is it plausible that the absence of wattage draw when fridge is idle caused the unit to shut down? I re-read the manual and didn't see an obvious caution, but am guessing. Maybe I need to connect anything that draws some type of wattage to keep this from happening?

If not then it maybe timed out, you can login to the app and change AC power to never turn off. If it was completely dead then you may have an issue with the BMS and battery balance, contact Ecoflow. I'm unclear on if you have two Delta 2's or a Delta 2 and Delta 2 spare battery, but w/ a Delta 2 and spare battery I'd expect you to get about 14 hours from the fridge factoring in AC inverter loss and idle consumption. When I turned them back on, the primary was 82% and backup 73%. I also had it set to AC power as recommended. As it turns out, the online owners manual states the default shut off is 2 hours, meaning if there’s no power draw, it turns off. I checked today, and the Ecoflow app states the default auto-turnoff is 30 minutes (for both DC and AC). I assumed when running the test there’s no way a fridge’s compressor would not kick in during a 2 hour window, and assumed incorrectly. As it turns out, it exceeded 30 minutes easy. I now have 2 solar panels of 150W, 12V Poly (facing South) and use them straight into my Ecoflow Delta 2.
    I notice that with that, and when Sun is out on the panels, I can charge the Delta 2 to full in well under 3h.
    I do get shading on the panels during the afternoon and the power drops significantly to only 40Watt.
    I bought 1 extra solar panel 150W, 12V Mono (facing South-West) and put all 3 in series.
    Dilemma ;
    As I only use a relative small percentage of my panels, because I only use it to charge the Delta 2 power station, I would like to benift more from it to have more off grid power and wonder what to do. What's best system wise and what's best budget wise.
    Do I buy the special extra Delta 2 battery from Ecoflow OR do I go for a DIY setup ?
    The Extra battery from Ecoflow is at 800,ooEuro and gives an extra 1024Wh but needs to be charged by the Delta 2 itself as it can not be charged or used by itself.
    The other DIY way has different options but comes at about the same cost for a little more power.
    As with the extra Delta 2 battery there is no need to buy anything else, no solar regulators, no 12V to 220V converter.
    On the other hand, with the DIY setup I do need 2x MPPT regulator (take 2x 100,ooEuro) , a 12V 100Ah LiFepo battery (around 500,ooEuro) and a 3000W pure sine converter (around 350,ooEuro) plus wires, fuses etc. (Comes easily at 1000,ooEuro) (And then better put a 4th solar panel of 150W 12V MONO, to balance and have 2x2 panels.
    I also looked at the GroWatt all in one but that asks for more panels (for minimum requirement start working voltage)
    That would be a nice system but even more expensive due to extra panels plus I only can put 6 panels (3x2 in slightly different orientation) due to space.

      I solved the problem of having more solar then my Ecoflow can take by using an external battery(100 Ah LFP with heatmats as it is located outside my house) where my solar is dumped.
In that case the electricity can stay in the external battery.

      Hello, how do you mean more power? Push more than 1,800w from one unit? No. But you would have the full 1,800w with each. There is no benefit in connecting them. You could feed power from one to another, but you can do the same with a spare battery and that's cheaper. If I didn't understand your question correctly let me know and I'll try again.

    • @NeoVdV
      @NeoVdV Рік тому

      Yes, more power, more Watt available to power a bigger load.
      I would use the Delta 2 in my mini camper time to time (maybe 10, maximum 20 times a year) but mainly as an off grid power (all year round) in a cabin.
      .
      Dilemma ;
