When I was a young teenager in Fort Worth, TX in the mid 1980's, there was a guy who came around town occasionally in a white Countach. Given what I learned in this video, I'm guessing the car was quite new at the time. One day he parked that car near our house to walk a short distance to the bank near our home. I can only guess that he must not have wanted to park in the bank parking lot, either for fear of having his car damaged, or perhaps he owed them money 🙂. Our typical neighborhood car was a mix of pickup trucks, American sedans, station wagons and Japanese hatchbacks, and to have this thing drop in and park was unbelievable. When he came back to his car, I was gawking at it and he was kind enough to stop and talk to me and let me peek inside. Seeing these cars on your channel takes me back to those days, but now having the advantage of these amazing details and your insight into these wonderful machines. Now, if I could just get behind the wheel of one... Thank you Mr. Tyrrell!
Awesome! As a car obsessed kid in the mid 80s-90s seeing exotics and other cool cars on the street was an awesome experience. I know Jay Leno has talked about the impact it had on him a bunch and I’m glad to see that there are still a lot of people that get really excited to “car spot,” especially since it’s so much easier now to see and hear and learn information about rare cars than it used to be.
I lived on car magazines when I was a kid, obsessively reading everything. In my 40s now. No less obsessive. What a record you are leaving for anybody, especially younger enthusiasts on these works of art. You are very much to be admired. There are people who can’t yet drive that will be the future owners of these cars in 20 years because of your love of them now.
I still have the 1968 and 1969 Motor Show reviews I bought at Earls Court at eleven years old. I went on my own, on the train and the underground, from Winchester to London - a very long day and miles of walking, laden with carrier bags full of brochures too! What an adventure, I don't know that I'd want my grandchildren to do that today, though! Great video as always.
I was about 14 in the early 80's when I saw the Cannonball Run. That was it, I was blown away. There are much faster cars available now but none will ever have the impact that watching those opening credits had on me. And watching them again on UA-cam some 40 years later made me feel like a teenager all over again. An incredible machine and yet another brilliant TCW video.
The reason he succeeded is that passion. Iain must know that. How wonderful to have 10% of something as great as a Lamborghini Countach LP400 under your charge. Bravo!

A fantastic futuristic and profoundly memorable design of course, and still a genuine joy the eyes. I did understand from Lamborghini's site (history) that only 151 original LP400 Countaches were made from 1974 to 1978 as series one, without the extended wings and rear spoiler. I can only imagine stratospheric prices for one of those rarities, and I've never seen one actually. The two crossing my path during my entire life have always been from later series. Coming eye to eye of an original LP400 for real would be a dream coming true actually. Thank you so much again for sharing such precious gems in general 💓
Had the privilege to see a few (although not many, of course) LP400 here in Italy at "Autoclassica" (the most relevant classic car fair in the Milan area) and must admit that they truly look neat and tidy, and they seem almost weird considering the large back wheels and spoiler are pretty much what one would expect on a Countach. Still undecided to which Countach I prefer, they of course all look amazing but probably the 5000 QV takes the cake, at leasy for me

Your opening few words took me straight back to my childhood. I was around 8 yrs old when walking past a car dealership I saw a spaceship parked on a forecourt. This thing was like nothing I’d ever seen. Thankfully my uncle was into cars so this little kid stopping dead and staring at this marvel and not wanting to leave wasn’t a problem. Then something very special happened. The owner of the garage came out, opened the door and let me sit in the captains seat of this amazing thing. The car wasn’t a Lamborghini but one of the first lotus Esprit. That’s how memories are made.
I'm really loving the subtle tone change in the videos recently, like turning it up to 11 - more about his historical/emotional connection to the cars over his impressive career and more of that Iain charm and personality! All the more impressive considering they don't plan the subjects of these videos - I suppose he just has great connections/great stories of all sorts of exotica. Well done everyone!
I am about your age Mr. Tyrrell and while growing up in Hollywood, CA I was privileged to view in person some of the exquisite vehicles that frequent your establishment today. I will never forget the first time I saw a Lamborghini Countach- it was, as you described, spaceship like and it forever changed the landscape exotic car design.
Lovely collection of Countachs. These were like Spaceships to us kids in India in the 1980’s. It was impossible to see one except in pictures and posters, of which as kids we had our much coveted collections. Thank you again for a lovely video. In 1973, my father bought our 3-bed family home for £3,500; so that's almost 5 per Countach. Just looked it up, and an identical property is currently on the market for £295k. There's a '75 LP400 Periscopo available for £1.5m, but you can pick up an 80's model from £650k-£880k. So Dad the right thing, sticking to the Renault 6. 🎉

Fell in love with the Countach as a 12 year old in Brussels in 1980. Exotic car repair shop about a mile from where I grew up. The owner would let me in, I was in awe. At the time he had a white countach, a red bb512, a black kahmsin. I fell in love with sports cars, never looked back 😂 love ur channel!!

it is with great pleasure to hear the right pronounciation of „Kuntatsch“ and not „Kuntasch“! I can easely remember when my father took me to the Geneva Motorshow in 1971 (?) when I saw the yellow Countach prototipo at the booth! Wow, what a countach it was😮 Further to this I went with my father again in 73 when I saw Countach chassis Nr 1 in green with chocolate interior. Ever since I am completely in love with any Countach there is. Cheers

I'm a year older than the Countach and I was a teenager when these were leaving the factory in Sant"Agata. I saw one for the first time when I was 15. I've seen three of them in my lifetime and each time it gave me the same euphoria even as a middle aged man that it did when I didn't even have a full beard yet. I have met some Countach owners and they speak very highly of them. They say that they are pretty reliable and not hard to work on yourself. The thing is you have to get them out of the garage and drive them. Don't let them sit there and deteriorate. Drive them.

I'm not entirely thrilled with the Fly Yellow paint color on that Countach, and think the Oro Metallizato looks particularly lovely on the Muira. The black US spec Quattrovalvole looks lethally sinister and absolutely menacing. Thanks for the quick run. I was hoping you'd take that one. 👊😎
I was lucky enough to see that yellow Countach quite a few times back in the eighties when it was gold. Really did look amazing. The owner then resprayed it dark blue ☹️
I could listen to Iain for hours on end talking about the Countach. I think your customer should go for the original gold as you suggested it's lovely I hope you can twist his arm ! I love the rich yellow used on the prototype but this yellow seems paler a bit washed out looking. In the magazine I noticed the top speed was quoted at 187 MPH, that bought up an old memory for me because I had a set of Top Trump cards in the late 70's where the two fastest cars in the pack were the Countach and the Berlinetta Boxer, the speeds quoted were 187 MPH for the Ferrari & 193 MPH for the Lamborghini. I never forgot those numbers because they were the Top Trump equivalent of buying Mayfair and Park Lane on a Monopoly board ! Thanks Iain I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Hi Iain. FIVE...... WOW! I've never driven one..... but about 1000 years ago we were working for a client (here in Australia) who had an original LP400 (orange) and a Silouette targa (red) in the carport...... couldn't fit in the Countach without my head bent over (the client was short but rich....) but sadly... no keys in the ignition..... haha! Probably just as well. Amazing sound.... :) Cheers S
Here's a vote for Oro Metallizzato! BTW you're not wrong about SanFrancisco street parking, I recall always having to find a spot where the front end of my '74 Alfa Spider was not exposed. Many were retrofit with what we called the cowcatcher, an ugly steel tube assembly made by a local welding shop for some protection.
I believe that same “ bug “ has also gotten me. At that younger age, no regrets still in love with the countach . I see I wasn’t alone. Thanks for this wonderful video
Gold and silver are my favorite colours for the Countach, so of course I'm recommending restoring the gold. Remember a car magazine article cross testing the LP400, Urraco and Jalpa, all in gold. Special. Thanks Iain.
The yellow Countach could use a respray anyway, and I agree, Oro Metallizzato would be ideal. Besides originality, it would be a stunner, and was a rare color to begin with.
I went to the UK motor show in 72 and 73 as a 15 year old, I remember seeing a pale yellow Countach, it was quite plain with no wing or flared arches, I was in love with the Espada , the bonnet was open and the grey quilted sound deadening was on show, my brother asked me why they had put an Eiderdown under the bonnet, I replied I didn't know, its funny how things stick in your mind!
A thing of pure, raw beauty - a supercar in every single sense of the word. I mean; we can be thankful to Marcello Gandini for many things but never more than for the Countach or the Lancia Stratos imho. Two fifty year old designs that still look futuristic today. That is quite a thing to say. Many thanks to his work (RIP) and, of course, to the opening credits of The Cannonball Run (which was where I first saw/heard one)...

Unless the owner of the yellow Countach is really attached to that color I'd hope they would decide to go back to the original color! That gold color would be soooo cool, I don't believe I've ever seen a Countach in that color. Plus it just seems right to restore the car to what it was originally. I was flying down memory lane with this vid, I was 12 when I was given the same Motor Show Review and was also mesmerised at that spaceship of a car. I lovingly gazed at that grainy black and white photo over and over and just dreamed.
Wow just wow the Countach has always been a firm favourite but that was so good seeing all those models at the same time. Loved it and yes to those complaining about no regular videos please understand this is not the main part of Iain’s business so we get the videos when he can…and me for one I am so glad we do thanks Iain…and @harrysgarage for encouraging him to do them.

That very 1973 Motor Show mag still lives on my bookshelf. On long term loan from my dad since the 70s. It was like a top trumps in book form with the Countach coming out on top in so many categories including that price. You can still tell which page was looked at the most in how easily the magazine falls open on that page. Great video, I was hoping for a side by side comparison of low body to high body but I think all examples were high body? ☕️☕️☕️🏁

Life is wonderful isn't it. The Renault 16 shown on the cover of the mag, bottom lefthand corner is the most significant car of the modern era. Front wheel drive, hatch back family sized car that set the template for what is most common on the roads today and you could easily call it the precursor to the SUV for good measure. it had a big snout for added protection thanks to its simple fwd layout and excellent all round vision. No one has ever given it the recognition it deserves.
The motor show reviews were part of my childhood as well but it was 'CAR' magazines feature 'Countach with an S' that got me hooked, then a feature on Walter Wolfe, he said his modified Countach made his Ferrari Boxer feel like a Triumph Herald! Later when my brother moved to Wimbledon I'd travel from Liverpool to treck across London to drool at the Countach's in Portman Lamborghini. Happy days.
As usual a stellar presentation.Thank you. I was intrigued by the Walter Wolf connection. The first Countache I saw was at Mosport race track and it was Wolfs.We knew him but had no idea what the car was. I did take a picture but who knows what box it is it. The second time I saw him in a different Countache was on Yonge St. in downtown Toronto. My what a glorious sound reverberated off the buildings. Oh by the way I vote for the yellow!

Always loved the countach,spent all my meagre teenage wages on a 1/14 tamiya model kit and took my time making it and spraying it red,added carpets and even roof lining.Took it to Portman square and the Lamborghini dealership wanted to have it to put in their cabinet but I wouldn’t sell it.The new countach in the showroom was £70,000.
Iain, another great video. Regarding the yellow car, it would be fantastic in the original colour, interesting to do the comparison of what cost to paint versus hopefully increased value and also the opportunity to address any body related issues; could be some man maths coming into play!😀👍
Fascinating history of the Countach. I used to read the Daily Mail/Daily Express Motor Show Review magazines religiously too, which my father always purchased and a trip to the London Motor Show itself was a treat. £16,500 for a Countach was stratospheric, you could have bought a very nice house for the money and my father had bought a 2+2 E-Type new for £2,000 odd only a couple of years previously. I would definitely recommend the yellow Countach owner reverting the car to its original gold oro livery, it would look magnificent.

I can easely remember when my father took me to the Geneva Motorshow in 1971 (?) when I saw the yellow Countach prototipo at the booth! Wow, what a countach it was😮 Further to this I went with my father again in 73 when I saw Countach chassis Nr 1 in green with chocolate interior. Ever since I am completely in love with any Countach there is. Cheers

I'm a year older than the Countach and I was a teenager when these were leaving the factory in Sant"Agata. I saw one for the first time when I was 15. I've seen three of them in my lifetime and each time it gave me the same euphoria even as a middle aged man that it did when I didn't even have a full beard yet. I have met some Countach owners and they speak very highly of them. They say that they are pretty reliable and not hard to work on yourself. The thing is you have to get them out of the garage and drive them. Don't let them sit there and deteriorate. Drive them.
Dad used to buy me a copy of the Motor Show Review each year, it was always exciting. Countach was the ultimate dream car back then, still is.

I'm not entirely thrilled with the Fly Yellow paint color on that Countach, and think the Oro Metallizato looks particularly lovely on the Muira. The black US spec Quattrovalvole looks lethally sinister and absolutely menacing. Thanks for the quick run. I was hoping you'd take that one. 👊😎
I was lucky enough to see that yellow Countach quite a few times back in the eighties when it was gold. Really did look amazing. The owner then resprayed it dark blue ☹️

I love the rich yellow used on the prototype but this yellow seems paler a bit washed out looking.
In the magazine I noticed the top speed was quoted at 187 MPH, that bought up an old memory for me because I had a set of Top Trump cards in the late 70's where the two fastest cars in the pack were the Countach and the Berlinetta Boxer, the speeds quoted were 187 MPH for the Ferrari & 193 MPH for the Lamborghini. I never forgot those numbers because they were the Top Trump equivalent of buying Mayfair and Park Lane on a Monopoly board !

Hi Iain. FIVE...... WOW! I've never driven one..... but about 1000 years ago we were working for a client (here in Australia) who had an original LP400 (orange) and a Silouette targa (red) in the carport...... couldn't fit in the Countach without my head bent over (the client was short but rich....) but sadly... no keys in the ignition..... haha! Probably just as well. Amazing sound.... :) Cheers S

Here's a vote for Oro Metallizzato! BTW you're not wrong about SanFrancisco street parking, I recall always having to find a spot where the front end of my '74 Alfa Spider was not exposed. Many were retrofit with what we called the cowcatcher, an ugly steel tube assembly made by a local welding shop for some protection.

Gold and silver are my favorite colours for the Countach, so of course I'm recommending restoring the gold. Remember a car magazine article cross testing the LP400, Urraco and Jalpa, all in gold. Special. Thanks Iain.

The yellow Countach could use a respray anyway, and I agree, Oro Metallizzato would be ideal. Besides originality, it would be a stunner, and was a rare color to begin with.

I went to the UK motor show in 72 and 73 as a 15 year old, I remember seeing a pale yellow Countach, it was quite plain with no wing or flared arches, I was in love with the Espada , the bonnet was open and the grey quilted sound deadening was on show, my brother asked me why they had put an Eiderdown under the bonnet, I replied I didn't know, its funny how things stick in your mind!

A thing of pure, raw beauty - a supercar in every single sense of the word. I mean; we can be thankful to Marcello Gandini for many things but never more than for the Countach or the Lancia Stratos imho. Two fifty year old designs that still look futuristic today. That is quite a thing to say.

Unless the owner of the yellow Countach is really attached to that color I'd hope they would decide to go back to the original color! That gold color would be soooo cool, I don't believe I've ever seen a Countach in that color. Plus it just seems right to restore the car to what it was originally. I was flying down memory lane with this vid, I was 12 when I was given the same Motor Show Review and was also mesmerised at that spaceship of a car. I lovingly gazed at that grainy black and white photo over and over and just dreamed.
Wow just wow the Countach has always been a firm favourite but that was so good seeing all those models at the same time. Loved it and yes to those complaining about no regular videos please understand this is not the main part of Iain’s business so we get the videos when he can…and me for one I am so glad we do thanks Iain…and @harrysgarage for encouraging him to do them.

That very 1973 Motor Show mag still lives on my bookshelf. On long term loan from my dad since the 70s. It was like a top trumps in book form with the Countach coming out on top in so many categories including that price. You can still tell which page was looked at the most in how easily the magazine falls open on that page. Great video, I was hoping for a side by side comparison of low body to high body but I think all examples were high body? ☕️☕️☕️🏁

Life is wonderful isn't it. The Renault 16 shown on the cover of the mag, bottom lefthand corner is the most significant car of the modern era. Front wheel drive, hatch back family sized car
that set the template for what is most common on the roads today and you could easily call it the precursor to the SUV for good measure. it had a big snout for added protection thanks to its simple fwd layout and excellent all round vision. No one has ever given it the recognition it deserves.

The motor show reviews were part of my childhood as well but it was 'CAR' magazines feature 'Countach with an S' that got me hooked, then a feature on Walter Wolfe, he said his modified Countach made his Ferrari Boxer feel like a Triumph Herald!
Later when my brother moved to Wimbledon I'd travel from Liverpool to treck across London to drool at the Countach's in Portman Lamborghini. Happy days.
As usual a stellar presentation.Thank you. I was intrigued by the Walter Wolf connection. The first Countache I saw was at Mosport race track and it was Wolfs.We knew him but had no idea what the car was. I did take a picture but who knows what box it is it. The second time I saw him in a different Countache was on Yonge St. in downtown Toronto. My what a glorious sound reverberated off the buildings. Oh by the way I vote for the yellow!

Always loved the countach,spent all my meagre teenage wages on a 1/14 tamiya model kit and took my time making it and spraying it red,added carpets and even roof lining.Took it to Portman square and the Lamborghini dealership wanted to have it to put in their cabinet but I wouldn’t sell it.The new countach in the showroom was £70,000.

Regarding the yellow car, it would be fantastic in the original colour, interesting to do the comparison of what cost to paint versus hopefully increased value and also the opportunity to address any body related issues; could be some man maths coming into play!😀👍

Fascinating history of the Countach. I used to read the Daily Mail/Daily Express Motor Show Review magazines religiously too, which my father always purchased and a trip to the London Motor Show itself was a treat.
£16,500 for a Countach was stratospheric, you could have bought a very nice house for the money and my father had bought a 2+2 E-Type new for £2,000 odd only a couple of years previously.
I would definitely recommend the yellow Countach owner reverting the car to its original gold oro livery, it would look magnificent.
