"John thinks Abigail is a wolf and thinks all wolves are Abigail" is a joke I didn't expect to find as funny as it was and I'm very happy with how much you all have managed to drag it through the woods and still make it funny
I love chase....i was not his biggest fan during this BUT to be fair he just might not have felt as attached since he wasn't playing the game and was just getting the story
I know chase is getting alot of heat but I think the appeal of loredump is how varied the boys are in thier tastes in games, I'm assuming they all know each others boundaries so if they're happy I think its okay
Notes on TB: TB is contagious and you catch it from droplets spread through breathing, but a lot of people are immune. It's like, 1/3 of all people are exposed don't catch it and have not symptoms just staying dormant inside you. It's part of why they could live in community for so long without wiping everyone out, and why sometimes people would get it years later after exposure.
I mean some people feel like that with the series as is since Arthur and John's sacrafices didn't do anything to stop the cycle as their best hope in Jack kinda got overwhelmed by revenge
Well... that was emotional. Despite how people have heralded this game, I never thought I'd be interested in the Red Dead series. But now I feel like I need to play it. Seriously, every game you guys cover is done so well and engaging that it completely changes my perception of them. Thank you so much Neil for covering this, I can't imagine the headache of deciding what to keep and what to leave behind! (And thank you Chase and Monty for being along for the ride! It feels like you guys are such a supportive friend group and I love it!)
The way TB works, is that you can have it and it can simply lay dormant in your system till it "activates", such things that can activate TB are smoking, heavy drinking, poor diets and damp living conditions... All things arthur lived through
As someone that has obviously played RDR1 (which I also have), do you feel that the story of RDR2 kind of ruined some of the story of RDR1? I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but after playing RDR2 I was left thinking to myself, "Why did I have to do xyz to this person? He was cool."
@@mlbrown76 not at all. I feel that Javier's actor really wanted to flesh out his own character and he did, almost to a detriment. But I think it still works as Javier was blindly loyal and conflicted. When in isolation he chose to believe in dutch even after all that had happened. And bill was a proud fool, not wanting to admit that he was stupid enough to be tricked by dutch, going fully into the deep end. He never cared about folk, he even says "that's against the rules" to Arthur when he helps the natives. They were both bad men, but Javier was manipulated and corrupted by Dutch's silver tongue. Rdr2 enhances rdr1, I don't feel it ruins the story at all
@@plexyglass429 I can somewhat see your point of view when it comes to Bill. However, we seem to disagree more when it comes to Javier. In RDR1 John constantly talks about how his old gang left him to die but I never saw that to be the case while playing RDR2. Dutch may have betrayed him a couple of times, but I don't feel like Bill or Javier ever left John for dead. John talks about Javier at the beginning of the RDR1 mission 'The Gates of El Presidio' and says, "We was close once. But he never cared for me or anybody else, not any of his so called brothers. He left me to die, when he had the chance to save me." At the time this was pretty much all I knew about Javier and I didn't have a reason to disbelieve that dialog because I had yet to see the events of RDR2 for myself. However, after playing RDR2 I know that John's version of the past wasn't completely accurate. I know that Javier had to help convince Arthur to go look for him in the 2nd mission of RDR2, so John was mistaken when he said that Javier never cared for him. Had it not been for Javier, John would have likely froze to death on the mountain. And at no point did I feel like Javier turned his back on John by the end of RDR2. Knowing what I knew during my playthrough of RDR1, which only came from John's recounts of the past, I thought that John's old gang all turned on him so I didn't think twice about what happened to Bill or Javier in RDR1. However, after seeing the events of the past for myself (as well as knowing that John was a crappy father to Jack and abandoned the gang himself), some parts of the story of RDR1 doesn't feel the same as when I first played it.
@@mlbrown76Some camp interactions with Javier, John and Abigail show some falling out. We must also make room for John being angry with him, perhaps being an unreliable narrator after 15 years of not seeing him. The only reason rdr2 could've really ruined Javier is ironically Javier's actor himself, as he really wanted to flesh out Javier more
Listening to this again, with the GTA Red Dead Easter Egg in mind, I think that the fantastical elements of the Redemption games were added by Jack when he wrote the in-universe books. Time travel and vampires, for example, would've been ideas he could've conceivably come across as a result of his voracious reading (time travel from either Mark Twain's 1889 "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" or H.G. Well's 1899 "The Time Machine" and vampires most likely from Bram Stoker's 1897 novel "Dracula").
Some corrections: the game makes up a fictional tribe, Wapiti (which, as I understand it, is just the word for "Elk" from one of the indigenous languages). This is the tribe that Rains Fall and Eagle Flies are from. As far as I know, Wounded Knee is NOT mentioned. However, there are certainly references to massacre of Native American tribes. Rains Fall talks about some of this. We can find a stranger out in the wild that talks about being involved in a massacre and how the military fort he served at properly, brutally tortured and killed Native American prisoners. There is also, ofc, talk of Col. Favours withholding medical aid/vaccines meant for the Wapiti people. And there are many, MANY mentions of land being stolen, the tribes being forced to move (oftentimes with violence), deals being breached by the government etc. And ofc, in the epilogue Rains Fall (if we run into him at a train station, I forget which one. Maybe Annesburg) mentions how his people aren't really a people anymore as many were forced off their land and then later fled to Canada etc. We can also find an old and (if my memory serves well) burned "American Indian Boarding School" in the West Elizabeth (I believe this is the one. Kinda in the Southern side of the state). This is where Indigenous kids were often forcibly sent so they can be forcibly assimilated into White American society. Their cultures were denigrated and they were forced to give up their Native names, religion, languages etc. They were provided with basic Western education. Inside, we find a page from a spelling test a Native American student took. Naturally, horrific abuse of these children took place at these establishments, as well. Kids developed PTSD, substance abuse issues, suicidal ideation (many succumbing to this). I was very surprised to find this site in the game as to my memory I have never seen this type of institution being addressed in any Western movie or show (from what I have seen). I think I read about in one of those Horrible Histories book MANY years ago when I was in 5th grade. Also, recently I've been reading "Killers of the Flower Moon" by David Grann in preperation for the upcoming Scorsese movie. The author went into detail about the purpose and operation of these schools. You might have read about mass graves (of indigenous children and teens) being found on the grounds of many such schools in Canada etc.
I think its funny that Chase of all people hates Micah. Considering Chase IS Micah. At least how he says he plays games. Micah is an absolute chaos goblin who wants to watch the world burn and live to tell the tale. Which is EXACTLY how Chase would play this game, by self admission XD
To be fair, I think the thing that makes Micah truly awful is how much of a coward he is about what he does. Sure, he’s the embodiment of chaos, but if he gets called out for something he did, he’ll say something about how it wasn’t his idea or even him that did it
Absolutely loved this. Stumbled onto Monty's channel when he covered the bioshock games and loved the insightful commentary on game mechanics as well as story. Can't wait to see you guys cover rdr1.
I'm a bit sad at how unenthused Chase was at what happens to Arthur and the ending, but Neil did a smashing job on this Lore Dump, excellent voices and really sincere storytelling that moved me to tears a couple of times! Great job Neil!
Neil did a great job on this one, stuck to the heart of the story and impactful character moments. Its a shame Chase didn't seem to give the same kind of interest and thoughtfulness that the other boys did during KH Lore Dump, but I guess... its alright girl..
I hope one day chase can learn to get wrapped up in a story without trying to poke holes and show that he's smarter than it. Great job, can't wait for the next series 😊
I know right? Some stories don't need to be convoluted big multiple game story that needs an explanation for every small bit of story no harm just sometimes you need to embrace the story instead being skeptical
Neil you did a fantastic job! I loved the narration, the voices, I felt like I was listening to a western novel more so than a video game synopsis. Looking forward to RDR's Lore Dump!!! Edit: Yooo can't wait to har the Bioshock LD! And it'll be a joy to hear the Noobus join in!
In all of storytelling throughout the ages, one of the most vindictive things is straight up saying "this guy looks like a rat-faced bastard," then showing that he IS a rat-face bastard before finally revealing that the rat-faced bastard got what he deserved in the end. Very well done, Neil. Also I love both Monty and Neil getting a bit teary eyed near the end and drawing parallels to John's new life and the life Arthur could never have, especially since Arthur gave him this life in the end by choosing to chase after "The Right Thing." Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
This was a fantastic series! One of my favorites (though honestly, I love this podcast so much). It's so hard to capture the sheer amount of emotion and character building that exists in RDR2; as a giant weeb myself, I had one of my favorite streamers on playing it in the background, expecting for it to be mildly entertaining, and I was absolutely sobbing at the end. Not worth the crunch, never, but I'm so happy I got to expereince that raw story how I did. Neil really, REALLY had his work cut out for him with the multiude of minor details and small moments that snowball into this beautiful and crushing ending, and he seriously did such a great job. I loved coming back to this game, and as always you all made it immensely entertaining. Thank you!
I appreciate that chase has different takes that being said I don’t understand his logic at times. It’s good to have someone like that on the show for sure but I’ve been watching lore dump for a while. It sounds deductive but Chase doesn’t seem to always understand some of the nuances of storytelling. I did appreciate some of his take on bioshock Infinite
I wish chase could be a bit less cynical when he's not 100% excited about things on this show. I know that he doesn't dislike particular plot points nearly as much as it comes across but it is certainly grating after monty and Neil respected him enough to not try to poke holes through the narrative when he's in the hot seat, so to say. I, unfortunately, find myself thinking "I wish he would just listen" very often when chase starts to interject. Regardless, I enjoyed listening to Neil lead for these past 2 uploads and I can't wait to hear more. Maybe I missed it in the outro, but who is leading for the bioshock series? I assume it is monty as he has videos about it on the other channel but that would mean that Chase won't lead an episode until at least 2024, which is honestly a bit surprising to hear! I really hope I don't sound too harsh here, I know this podcast is just you all pal-ing around so please don't take this comment too to-heart. All-in-all you 3 put out wonderful content that I'm grateful to be able to listen to throughout my long overnight shifts. Have a good one, yall. (Edit was to fix redundant wording at the beginning of the comment)
It really is a shame though. Since Neil (of course) has done his homework for the presentation, and Monty has played through the game himself. Chase was the only one getting 100% new information this time around, and he couldn't seem less interested.
One cool thing about the oil factory mission. In my playthrough, after Arthur runs away from the german family and wakes up on the street, there's a message from the game that says that your cut from this job is 0$. And then game gives you another message that reminds you about how the gang splits earned money between the members. Idk if it's supposed to be here or it's just a bug, but it's such a good timing to tell you that you're not in the gang anymore.
A good bit of the music in Chapter 5, along with missions such as Fleeting Joy (Milton attacks the gang after their reunion), and Icarus & Friends (hot air balloon) was done by Colin Stetson. He's a fucking wizard on a bass saxophone. He has this circular breathing technique which makes it sound as of he's playing crazy solos on his instrument without taking a breath. He tapes various mics to the instrument and his neck etc. to add percussion and echo-y screams to the songs and he does it all in one-take. Any RDR2 fans who haven't listened to his music outside of this game... Do yourself a favour and check out his albums: New History Warfare, Vol.1, 2, & 3. He also composed for Hereditary and will be composing for the upcoming anime adaptation of Junji Ito's Uzumaki.
Fantastic, loved the commentary. My one gripe is that you missed one of my favorite lines. When Arthur is sniping for Sadie. He throws down his rifle. "Okay Mr. Milton, I guess we'll have to talk this out like Gentleman!"
Well I can’t wait for rdr1. I truly hope Neil brings his cast of voices. This might top KH for me. Really loved the route you took to retell the best parts. ❤
Another cool detail, the man who helps Arthur to the Doctor's office in Saint Denis looks VERY MUCH like Mr. Downes. I have to imagine this was intentional.
In Arthur’s journal the first page is where he keeps track how much he’s made off jobs as well as who participated and how much of a cut the camp gets, also in ch 6 community chest gets destroyed someone broke it according to miss grimshaw
Also for reference when someone asked how much money was in the lockbox by then. The lockbox is just for camp provisions so it varies but the actual savings that Dutch has been saving from the gang cut from things it at roughly 15-17k depending on how well you did in the valentine bank heist
I listened to these two episodes twice on a roadtrip this weekend -- once going there and once coming back -- it was that good. I heard the story was phenomenal, but I had (and still have) no desire to play a cowboy rpg. And the story was great! And very, very well-told. Now I am emotionally satisfied and never have to play this game. Thank you!
Ugh. Chase chasing me off with all his sarcastic comments/jokes. Feels like he just going through the motions since the KH Lore dump. I loved this episode. Hats off neil!
36:24 yes Arthur has met Penelope face to face twice . In your first mission got beau when yo drop a letter off to her and sneak into the braithewaite property, and also when you go with Beau to the woman’s rights march in Rhodes that she is attending .
I love this game! I don't know how many times I've played through the campaign with 100% completion each time. I think you all did a great job recapping the game. I listened to all of this and part 1. There were some very minor details that you all got wrong that didn't really effect the story. For example, the mother of Francis Sinclair (the time traveler) was holding him as a baby instead of being pregnant when Author returned; and you all kept saying that Author and Sadie rode to Copper Head's Landing to save Abigail, but it was Van Horn (they told Tilley to take Jack to Copper Head's Landing and wait for Sadie and Abigail. However, those were small details and I only caught them because of the number of times I've played through the game. I would love for you all to do this for Red Dead Redemption. I played RDR1 when it was originally released, so going into this game I knew a little more than someone that didn't play RDR1. Like which gang members would definitely survive RDR2 because they are in RDR1, which happens after the events of RDR2. Playing RDR1 without the context of RDR2 was a great experience. However, I don't know if I would have felt about some of the choices and missions that were in RDR1 after knowing the events of RDR2. I'd be interested to hear someone else's take on this idea.
I have told my friends and myself that I would never start this game because it would become the only game I ever play due to how in depth it is. So, the next best option is learn the story from the channel that does it best. Neil, the part about John going on a date with his wife makes me cry every time. I love how you try to brush off vampires and time travel. As someone from Texas, your accent is great. And I can't wait for the next game you host, {redacted for spoilers, but I'm pretty sure we know}
One of the things I inherited from my grandfather was a love for westerns. It wasn’t until I found three differently labeled collections of westerns that I realized that there’s a big difference between “cowboy westerns,” “gunslinger westerns” and “outlaw westerns.” These games do a really good job of mixing those three together as a nod to fans of each subgenre. That being said, I just got to the part where you guys are discussing how the era of cowboys is at an end by the end of RDR II, but that’s not fully true, it’s that the era of outlaws is coming to an end.
Can’t believe it took all the way to the epilogue for these characters to do actual cowboy activities. I was so ready to complain about the lack of cattle herding.
Rains falls story in rdr2 is the one that gets me its just heartbreaking, hes unabiguously a good person and suffers both personally and in the stead of his people too and was left to live and endure. it just hurts especially the very end.
I know I'm late to this video (and this series which I have been bingeing obsessively) and I've never played this game, but I found myself compelled to reply to Neil's question at the beginning anyway. Considering what we now know about the possible effects of a traumatic brain injury on a persons personality, I think it's likely that the thing that messed Dutch up is the concussion he got when the tram derailed. Anyway, with that compulsion successfully exorcised, great job lads, can't wait for what's to come in 2024.
so excited for this , i missed the fact music on my spotify re-listen of part one so im hoping for some riveting pirate facts with some lovely music behind it again this episode
Normally I wonder when at the start of the month y'all will drop the dump, apparently you were chomping at the bit and caught me off guard lads! Cheers
Given Chase’s weeb tendencies, it makes me wonder how a discussion of how many Western movies are adaptations of Samurai movies (The Magnificent Seven vs The Seven Samurai for example) and how the two genres are compatible might play into his interests.
Ooh fantastic timing, just finished relistening to part 1. Am at 1 hour 15 and it seems you skipped out the last Herr Strauss missions, with the satisfying scene of Arthur kicking him out of the camp.
Thanks for being here! If you're new - Red Dead Redemption 2 (Part 1) is here: ua-cam.com/video/sXnNNoer66Y/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LoreDump
See you next month!
Dutch says "Same as you, i suppose" alluding to the fact that upon reflection he wanted to kill micah
"John thinks Abigail is a wolf and thinks all wolves are Abigail" is a joke I didn't expect to find as funny as it was and I'm very happy with how much you all have managed to drag it through the woods and still make it funny
I 100% feel Monty's disdain for the Pinkertons & Cornwall. Absolute fucking ghouls.
I honestly can't get enough of Neil's impression of Arthur Morgan. It's surprisingly good for how off the cuff it is!
Sometimes I wonder if Chase likes any game outside of Kingdom of Hearts XD
Final Fantasy.
If it's not from Japan, it's not for the man.
I felt so much rage when he said Eh after Arthur's death.
Thomas Downes is ALSO the man collecting for charity when you first get to Valentine.
VERY good TB-infested-Arthur voice, Neil!! You're killing it, bruv
Watching Chase be confused about certain things knowing what happens is delightful

Absolutely agree i might not have liked his views on it but thats why i listen and watch to see and hear these views
I dont think it's that he didn't like it is what annoys them, it's the fact that he seems very disinterested and dismissive
Neil’s Dutch impression is soooo good ❤
Thank you so much!!- Neil
I knew Neil was doing the Red Dead episodes, and he honestly conveyed this story amazingly. Thank you Neil

I did appreciate some of his take on bioshock Infinite
you're all so fantastic! thank's again pals!
edit: and the cowboy hat controller avatars? :chefs kiss:
MAN. I cried so much during this. Fantastic fantastic job Neil. Holy hell.
The character recap with chase in the first 10 min I could just feel everyone else being offended
Great job, Neil! I was wondering why you did the second one first but now i see it was all part of the PLAN. Lol
We absolutely need more of Neil in the chair
Oh boy here we go for the feels.😢😂 great job Neil! You did fantastic
Surely that's intentional, or perhaps a biproduct of how the missions are coded, regardless it's very harrowing if you notice it
Neil - your story telling brought my to tears twice! Thank you so much for your passionate rendition of the tale!
Basic summary of this channel. Amazing games are explained to no avail to a hopeless weeb.
It’s a good day when we get a new Lore Dump
This series was EXTENSIVE. Lots of hard work from everyone. Great job.
Fantastic, loved the commentary. My one gripe is that you missed one of my favorite lines. When Arthur is sniping for Sadie. He throws down his rifle. "Okay Mr. Milton, I guess we'll have to talk this out like Gentleman!"
I was expecting this next week or something. We are eating early with this one 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
Following the previous episode, I picked up my own adult juice to join the fun.
So many plans, so much scottish product.
Great job in the chair Neil!
I love these so much. I just realized I'd love a Metal Gear series for these. I know nothing except Snake exists and there are Kojima shenanigans.
Good news, there is one! Chase and Monty did one back in the day- Neil
@@LoreDump excellent news for my brain!
@@LoreDump and I can't believe I didn't just...look.
Thank you!
I hear Neil kinda choke up when he is reading the nun and Arthur at the train station 1:00:40
This is one of my favorite games ever, and hearing it again made me want to tear up again. That ending was so good!
Ugh. Chase chasing me off with all his sarcastic comments/jokes. Feels like he just going through the motions since the KH Lore dump. I loved this episode. Hats off neil!
Haven’t you ever heard that Seal song “Kiss from a wolf on the face”?😂
36:24 yes Arthur has met Penelope face to face twice . In your first mission got beau when yo drop a letter off to her and sneak into the braithewaite property, and also when you go with Beau to the woman’s rights march in Rhodes that she is attending .
Red dead redemption 1&2 are cowboy neverending story, it's great that at no point all threads are not closed because that's not how life works.
Was so excited to see this episode pop-up on my feed this morning. Great job Neil and thank you Chase and Monty for all of Lore Dump
Neil done a great job recapping the story - however i do feel like this game is so massive and emotional it really has to be experienced first hand
I love the "xyz's No Good, Very Bad Day" chapter titles lmao
Just started listening to lore dump, thanks for getting me emotionally attached to and teary-eyed over a CowBae game I've never played.
I just opened UA-cam thinking to myself I really need something for the ride to work, and you all out with an early drop on part two let's gooooo
I have told my friends and myself that I would never start this game because it would become the only game I ever play due to how in depth it is. So, the next best option is learn the story from the channel that does it best. Neil, the part about John going on a date with his wife makes me cry every time. I love how you try to brush off vampires and time travel. As someone from Texas, your accent is great. And I can't wait for the next game you host, {redacted for spoilers, but I'm pretty sure we know}
You forgot to mention to your buddy when Mr Bullard gets shot and falls out Arthur watches him fall out and shrugs 😂
1:32:43 so John was taught to read by Dutch (like Arthur) only Abigail is illiterate among the Marston family .
Damn the Way Neil says "Savages" is just the defintion of savage this man can probably split a rock by saying it.
I've binged your channel in the past two weeks so I'm soooo happy to be here for an upload!!!
Fucking standing ovation for the impressions goddamn
58:00 John had with Abigail and Jack what Arthur could have had with Eliza and Isaac and he was pissed John spent most of the game ignoring them.
Something about sad cowboys just makes me feel so much
the running bit of John being an idiot is my fave, thanks for another banging ep boys :)
Amazing. A beautiful story told beautifully. Neal had me in tears.
Still cant believe you guys suffered through over 32 HOURS of Kingdom Farts lore.
Chase ain't happy without hot anime boys
He liked the first game more so more... extreme characters are what he likes
so excited for this , i missed the fact music on my spotify re-listen of part one so im hoping for some riveting pirate facts with some lovely music behind it again this episode
2:53 chase thinks nobody stands out - but can keep track of 13+ characters that all have similar letters in their name, and the exact same outfit
9:12 so glad to say the fellas didnt disappoint
Normally I wonder when at the start of the month y'all will drop the dump, apparently you were chomping at the bit and caught me off guard lads! Cheers
Given Chase’s weeb tendencies, it makes me wonder how a discussion of how many Western movies are adaptations of Samurai movies (The Magnificent Seven vs The Seven Samurai for example) and how the two genres are compatible might play into his interests.
Just finished the first part so this is perfect timing!
Ooh fantastic timing, just finished relistening to part 1.
Am at 1 hour 15 and it seems you skipped out the last Herr Strauss missions, with the satisfying scene of Arthur kicking him out of the camp.
Yeah I was bummed when I realised I missed that!!- Neil
Jumping straight into part 2
Gotta hand it to Micah, good nicknames. Black Lung, Scarface and Hellfire.
