"What other stories does this pull from?"
Yes.
Uh oh I can tell we are in for a wild journey!

Cain and Abel are one of the first Stories that found their way into the Dreaming, so basically they’re forever re-enacting their story (Cain slaying Abel)
And the Corinthian (the Mouth-eyed man) isn’t so much a protege of Dream’s but he’s basically a Nightmare of Dream’s that decided to go rogue and feed on the Dreamers he was meant to serve. Sandman was meant to be a part of DC/Vertigo comics when it was still a comics, but in this show they’re trying to kind of pull away as much of DC influence as possible to make it as palatable for new audiences as possible while also keeping a lot of it the same
His “tools” (the bag of sand, Ruby, and helm) are things he made with big chunks of his power to make doing certain tasks easier. A great idea until someone takes them away.
Can I say, I LOVE watching this with you?! In my teens when I read Sandman no one was into it, so to share it with you guys who are so excited about it, it’s everything. Get ready for a lot of story!!!
The thing I live a lot about this show is how they are intertwining a few other stories that I am familiar with as well. Can’t wait to see the rest of this season!

"my sand..."
"JUST GO TO FLORIDA!" 😂😂😂
Binged this series a few days ago so I'm really enjoying watching your reactions! Wait til you get to episode 5 and 6 oof!
most of real worlds mythologies are in sandman, the norse gods, the greeks, the egyptians, the japanese, the celtics, theyre all here and we will get to explore them soon if the show dont get canceled
"Go to Florida!" I literally laughed out loud at that. Also, major points for pointing out that sand, when heated, becomes glass. I hadn't considered that WRT this series. Nice work!
Circe is the first witch in classical mythology. The three who are one combine various triple goddeses here called The Hecate. They archetype as the maiden, mother and crone. They are the Graea or fates of greek myth and the norns of nordic myth etc
Clearly they had beef with Circe
"He's intact physically, but not mentally'
looooooool.... y'all earned a sub, guys! I'm kind of a hardcore Sandman fan and that was hilarious! Can't w8 to see the rest of ur reactions...esp to ep4 and 6! 🔥
The idea behind this show's world is that beliefs have power. If enough people have strong enough belief in anything, it will manifest. While dreams and death are natural acts, Dream and Death are the walking/talking personifications of those two forces of nature, which help guide the forces... that is why they are called the Endless (as Corinthian mentions in ep 1).
Morpheus is the God of dreams.
I’m curious why god is used most commonly to describe him, because I never got that impression of Dream.
He isn’t the God of dreams, he is the concept
They mean in Greek mythology the god of dreams is named Morpheus. That’s what his name is referencing
@@abigailtoon9408 I know, I’m talking about in the show
@@abigailtoon9408 Morpheus isn't a Greek god, though. He first appears in the writings of Ovid, a Roman poet. It's believed that he and some other gods were invented by Ovid.
Yes, this has a lot of christianity and also mythology, because the author its an expert on mythology actually.
About the Matrix and Sandman reference its actually true because the Wachowski sisters were really fans of comics back then, and the first comic of this came out on 1989.
This being from DC has actually a lot of DC villains and superheroes, but they taked all out for the series.
That's actually Johanna Constatine, not John, because Warner bros didn't let Neil Gaiman (the author) use character that weren't made by him for copyright reasons, and John was made by Alan Moore, but Johanna who is his ancestor was made by Neil Gaiman.
Props, Neyén for being on point about the author’s background, and the DC characters being taken out! I saw an interview with Neil Gaiman where he said that the reason they removed so many of the prime DC characters is because in the writer’s room they made the call on who’s integral to the overarching plot(Who do they need to cast for these reoccurring roles), as opposed to all the Easter egg-like characters that appear throughout the stories. It was a way of simplifying in small part an epic that’s already firing on all cylinders with plot complexity!
Personally, I miss not getting to see Martian Manhunter answer his door to John Constantine, and Dream, and Manhunter bowing to what he sees as a giant flaming skull with red eyes where Morpheus stands because that’s how the Martian People see Dream! Martian Manhunter gives a small respectful prayer to the Dream King, and Morpheus is equally astounded to find a Martian on Earth as he was under the impression that the Martians had gone eons ago! I miss that scene not being in the show, and I know I’ll miss the small talk between Batman, Animal Man and J’onnn(Manhunter) in The Wake.
Side note: I did see a recent interview with Neil(Maybe the same?) where they asked him about John/Johanna Constantine, and he said that he wanted to clear up the misconception that they didn’t have character rights to John. He said the decision was made for simplicitie’s sake since they didn’t want to further confuse viewers with the reincarnation business with John, and it was much easier to cast one actress (Jenna Coleman) to play the ancestor, and current Constantine. I’d have loved the Arrowverse Constantine, Matt Ryan in this series myself, but Jenna knocks it out of the ball park in the roll in my opinion! Thanks again for posting. I love reading thoughtful, informed comments, Neyén.☮️

Because of what Gregory does at the beginning of issue 2, this is even more of a sad affair. Well, Goldie (Irving, in my heart) can grow up to be a good gargoyle, too, in honor of Gregory.
Cain and Abel are representative of the biblical brothers of old, but are also dreams of their archetypes. Their appearance is taken from two DC horror/mystery/fantasy anthology comics series (House of Secrets and House of Mystery), which Cain and Abel became host and storytelling characters of back in the 1960s. Gregory was with them then as well, and Goldie was the name of Abel’s imaginary girlfriend to whom he told stories.
Ask the Fates whatever you want, but they’ll always find a cryptic way to answer which will leave you with more questions. Still, you may sometimes find they can be kindly.
Ironically, if they've been combined with the Kindly Ones in this adaptation, they won't be.
you guys need to do more of these. your comments are awesome :)
Preciate the love! More episodes are dropping soon!

Fantastic reaction! Can’t wait for more…
The Sandman eventually tackles all religions and myths from many cultures Nordic, Egyptian, and Greek and even deals with modern religions like Christianity as you've seen and Shinto in the comic books in later issues.
dream is the personification of dreams his siblings are the personifications of their names as well, they are BORN to do their function, simple as that. alot of GODs were invented IN the dreaming lmfao, the 7 endless are the 7 NEEDED concepts that are in ANY plane of existence. even if all humans died, the 7 concepts would still exist. in the dc comics, they just decided to PERSONIFY them.
I love your reactions, so glad you're watching this series!
Preciate the love Tyler! Always excited when our UA-cam also enjoys the source material as much as we do!

The fates from Macbeth, and Greek mythology Cersi I can't say ever attacked Hercules but was in Greek mythology, was in the The Odyssey but very easy to mix up as it's all Greek mythology.
Love this show
