@@spideerman83 I was just chuckling to myself thinking the same thing. This show, these characters are something else! Neil Gaiman is a genius!!!
Small thing many people missed. Before, when Gregory was playing on the lawn, it was splotchy grass and barren rock/mud. After he died, it was filled with red flowers. Gaiman likes the Greek trope of when important/mythic characters die, part of them is transfigured into a brand new species of flower.
I noticed it when I watched it! cause it looked different!
I noticed it immediately and was pleasantly surprised
I haven't missed it and I thought it was beautiful think to do
Also, the red flowers are probably poppy flowers. Poppies, as in used to make morphine. The name coming from, you guessed it - Morpheus - the Greek god of Dreams!
The thing with the Endless, such as Dream, is that they aren't gods. They are manifestations of existence. Gods can die. The Endless cannot. However, with that said, humans who have come across the Endless over history have seen them as gods and given them names. So, Dream was given the name Morpheus by the ancient Greeks and seen as a god. But across global cultures, he has been given other names. And each culture sees him differently in their eyes. It is only among his siblings and in his own realm is he seen as this pale man unless he wants you to see himself as such. Otherwise, whatever culture you belong to, you will see him as part of your culture. So, if he pops up in China, he will look like the Chinese deity of dreams. If he pops up in Mexico, he will show up as the Aztec deity of dreams there. And so on.
If gods can die are they stronger than gods? Please reply and like my comment so I can see if someone replied. Thank you.
@@clive0494 Yes, they are on a completely different level. In the Sandman universe, Gods are basically born into Dream's realm - and they go back there when they die or if nobody worships them anymore. Gods are infinitely lower, on the cosmic scale, than the Endless.
And if he pops up on Mars, the Martians see him as a giant flaming skull. Giant Flaming Skull Morpheus is the best Morpheus.
@@ladyeledhwen2112 wow!, but there is god the creator in sandman universe? can lucifer escape death?
@@clive0494 Yes there is the equivalent of a Creator, called the Presence. Him, Lucifer and Michael are the three most powerful entities in the DC universe - but even them will presumably need Death in the end - though I'm not sure for the Presence. And even them dream, feel hope, despair, and cannot fully escape Destiny - so knowing how powerful they are VS the Endless is complicated.
About Cain and Abel:
It's important to remember that they're NOT human, they're a dream. They ARE the story of the first murder. They're a dream that humanity created, not one that Dream did; thats why Dream couldn't absorb them.
Also, "House of Secrets" and "House of Mysteries" were horror anthology comics back in the day. The "hosts" of the books were... Cain and Abel. Like the Cryptkeeper and "Tales From the Crypt."
Yes but that got more and more murky as time went on. Eve and Cain and Abel start to talk more about the Garden and The Presence (God) in future Vertigo stories. So the line between dreams and reality, at least in the comics, became a little bit blurred.
@@jkhristian9603 and Morpheus sends Cain as his messenger to hell specifically because of his mark. The kindly ones also leave him be so it is genuinely backed by the presence’s power.
Besides the mark, Cain being frustrated with gardening is due to him being cursed from the ground/soil.
@@davidhunt7454 You're starting to get into spoiler territory that they wouldn't appreciate (assuming that the show even gets that far considering Netflix cancels everything).
yes but than there must be other stories like them right? like adam and eve and temptation
The House of Mystery was one of DC's Horror books in the 70's, created around the same time as Swamp Thing. Cain and Abel were the narrators of the stories. At the end of each comic, Cain would always murder Able. You'd buy the books for the fun horror stories and wait to see what way Able would be murdered again. DC's The Sandman series would often revisit old classics.
Cain hosted _House of Mystery,_ and Abel hosted _House of Secrets._ There were times when one would visit the other.
@@0okamino Them calling their actual houses House of Mystery and House of Secrets is a cute Easter egg for comic readers.
i think Swamp Thing first appeared in a House of Mysteries story, right? as Alex Holland, before the later version that got his own title
@@seratoxin3825 Issue 92 of _The House of Secrets_ ("The" was added to the title in 1969), July 1971. The name Alex Olsen was used in that story.
Oh my god, they killed Abel! You bastards!
In the Comics, Sandman says time passes the same as humans' for him. So even being an endless it was extremely awful to be locked up for a century
Probably worse. Imagine basically experiencing time the same way, but having such a perspective that makes you aware of every tiny fraction of every second. Knowing and feeling that every passing increment simultaneously means nothing (compared to the span of your existence) and everything.
The 3 ladies Dream ask his question are the Fates. They are not part of the Endless. The Fates are part of Greek mythology, they are sisters but also represented as 3 different phases of woman.
1) the maiden
2) the mother
3) the crone
You often see the fates as the are spinning a thread of a human's life and when they cut a person thread that's the end of their life.
also the norns weirdly quite a few cultures had them but top of my head right now at 12:39 am I am only thinking the Norns then the roman fates and as you said the Greek fates
Did u notice Dream also referred to them as Hecate? Hecate was thought of as a goddess of the moon because her selves coincided w/the cycles of the moon. She is known as the healer, mother & witch. When she appeared to mortals it would be in the form of the maiden, the mother or the crone. I can't remember who came 1st Hecate/The Fates.
this series really has become one of my favorite hopefully we get so much more of it
Yeah i was really surprised by how much I loved it. I hope they make season 2 because it’s so good
Same, i even bought volume one of the books. I'm so obsessed with this show and the cast
"That is a new meaning of... deep throat" I'll finish it for you Nikki 🤣
Its amazing how I fell in love with Gregory and was saddened by his loss in just the 5 min I was introduced to him. Thats how good of a storyteller all who created this show was. I was already attached to someone so quickly.
Also Tom’s performance as Dream
is 😘🤌🏻.
The odd thing you are going to have to understand about The Sandman is that most everything you are seeing is a human representation of amorphous beings. Dream is not so much a character but how we perceive the embodiment of Dream. Same with his creations. The author did a great job of creating this world of the endless. They are just concepts that we all see differently. If they were in reality Dream would look different to all of us.
Fun fact: When Nikki said she got "Matrix" vibes she was more right then she knew, Morpheus is the one that found neo, also the real name of the dream lord😏😂👍
A* name of the dream lord, he has many. Basically every prominent culture in history deified or personified dreams in some way.
Very minor spoilers for the show: just this first season also uses Kai'ckul (early human) and Oneiros (the Oneroi were a collection of gods and powerful beings associated with sleep and dreams in Greek mythology of which Morpheus is one) depending on who he's talking to at the time. Mostly he just goes by "Dream" or "Dreams" or "The Dream Lord".
@@TehFrenchy29 Oneiros is the Greek name, Morpheus the Roman one, although being such minor gods in their respective cultures, they weren't talked about too much, and information is sketchy.
I love that Gregory was given some agency. "I have come to ask Gregory."
Especially after watching HotD on Sunday! Eeeeek!
@@jcompton8507 oof yeah
The hospital where John is locked up was Arkham Asylum in the books, since he was a _Justice League_ villain, and Johanna Constantine (the current one, not the one Dream knew before his imprisonment) was _John_ Constantine, protagonist of the _Hellblazer_ DC series; the early arcs in the series had plenty of tie-ins to the DC universe, but the adaptation keeps itself at a certain distance (with the occasional easter egg), partly due to convoluted rights reasons, partly because it can stand perfectly well on its own.
And the ruby is the Dreamstone, used in Wonder Woman 1984. But again, because of rights reasons, they only refer to it in the series as the ruby
I think I found a term for this show's tone/vibe. I could be wrong, but to me,
It feels like a bedtime story.
Something someone wiser and older who loves you would tell you to teach and comfort and fascinate you before you go to sleep.
Before you dream.
Think about it.
100% appropriate! After all, the Sandman as a folklore figure is a story for bedtime.
The look in Dream's eyes when he's talking to Gregory. 😭😭 He hated doing that as much as Caine and Abel did. I can't imagine being in a position like that. Just knowing you have to do that...it'd be hard not to get angry afterwards.
Don't apologize for what you can't remember. The short version: Cain and Abel was the first two children of Adam and Eve after they were expelled from the Garden of Eden. Their story is that one day they had to make a sacrifice to God. Abel's sacrifice was well received but Cain's wasn't. In his anger and jealousy Cain killed Abel. The first murderer and the first victim.
Stories are dreams and as such Dream of the Endless made a place for them in the Dreaming (The name of the world of dreams). They live as neighbors. Cain in the House of Mystery and Abel in the House of Secrets. And Cain repeatedly kills Abel because that is their story.
Given their roles as the hosts of their houses, I do believe yet a new source of animosity from Cain arose (adding to the original). Abel is in the habit of giving away secrets, and that’ll sure ruin a good mystery.
About Cain and Abel:
They were the first children of Adam and Eve. Cain killed Abel out of jealousy and became with that the first murderer.
In the universe of the Sandman they are the characters of the first story ever told and fall with that in the domain of the dreaming and they know of all secrets and mysteries ever existing.
For the Hecate: the three fates, the three who are one, the one who ist three. They are not part of the Endless, even if they are very old deities existing in many different human cultures (Hecate, Nornes, the kindly ones and many more). The Endless are the Personifications of principles in our Existence. Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium. They are not Gods, they are as old as Existence itself.
Naming the Endless is a bit of a spoiler...
@@mbpoblet The Corinthian names them all when he's talking to Roderick Burgess in the first episode.
@@aelussa7047 He names Desire, Destiny, and Despair (Burgess already knew about Death and Dream, though he wasn't aware of their nature or relationship, other than he got one when trying to trap the other).
He doesn't say anything about the other ones, or their number, since their identities are supposed to remain a mystery until later in the series.
I wonder if Eve will appear in the show. Eve did appear in the comic. Eve lived in a cave in the Dreaming. Adam however, never appeared in the Sandman. He did appear in its spin off series though.
following on from the fates, in the comic their also referred to as the Weird Sisters which comes from Shakespeare's take on the idea of the Hecate/Fates and the depiction of each of them follows his description, that of Mother, Maid & Crone which hold importance in more modern forms of Goddess Paganism
Nikki: "100% I would but also not but also yes"
Reminds me of "What do you call a bee that can't make up it's mind....a Maybe"
🤦
That makes sense.
Honestly, this is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. It's really in the spirit of the comic and some scenes are taken straight out of the comic. One thing for Nikki, Episode 5 is going to be VERY intense and messed up. Steve, I'd get ready for "FUCK NO'S!" from Nikki. But Episode 6 makes up for the horror.
in the comics, dream's hundred years of captivity had a lot more stuff going on in the world, but i guess they couldn't fit all of it into the show
Yeah, e5 is DARK for sure. Should make for a great reaction though (as will all the episodes, actually).
Oh god, 6 was Sooooo well done. And Kirby killed it.
@@vinsanity40k Probably not, but I feel like they focused on the important ones.
does it get better after episode 7?
You guys are one of the few reactors that chose to react to Sandman rather than She-Hulk. You guys are the GOATs.
There is absolutly no shame in not knowing stuff. To be honest, it's very refreshing to see someone admitting this. Thanks for that!
Also it's super fun to rewatch this series with you two!
Yes, The Corinthian has mouths for eyes. Very creepy indeed! As others have said, Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's first two sons, and Cain murdered Abel. So glad y'all are enjoying this series so far!
Boyd Holbrook plays a phenomenal antagonist.
A frighteningly charming one at that.
16:42 Morpheus is just one of the names he gained along his long existence, “Dream of the Endless” is his actual real name
So, someone (not me, can’t take credit) said about Corinthian that it feels as though there’s a symbolism with his eyes being mouths, and specifically, that as a creation, he can’t really “see” others in any meaningful way- he only consumes. Which I think adds to his story, as may be apparent in future episodes. But it is very weird and interesting that his eyes are mouths.
I was so surprised that this show made me actually shed a tear for a gargoyle. Maybe it’s because he looks like a mix of a stegosaurus and a horse, or because he reminded me of one of the dragons from How To Train Your Dragon.
At least we have Goldie.🤩🤩
Also in the comic it wasn’t Gregory that he took but letters of commission that Morpheus gave to the brothers. But letters don’t win your heart over like an adorable gargoyle. Also it shows that Dream is a very sympathetic and compassionate king.
I've watched this episode a couple of times on my own and from various reactors and I cry every single time Dream takes Gregory. Every time. Also, the three women Morpheus summoned were not Endless, they were the Fates, the Maiden, Mother and Crone. The Endless are personifications of concepts, Dream, Destiny, Desire, Death, etc. The comic (and so the show too) is drenched in mythology of all kinds. You'll see bits and pieces of just about everything at some point (assuming they continue past season 1). That's one of the reasons I've loved it so much for almost 30 years. I can't get over how well this adaptation was done.
I'm someone who usually reads books/plays/comics before watching film adaptations, but I talked myself into doing the opposite for this series. Now that the season is out and we have to wait years for S2, I'm having a hard time staying away from the comics. As a long time fan of the comics, what is your advice? Should I read the comics first? Or wait for the show??
His actual name is Dream, morpheus is just the name the greeks gave him, which he uses along with his other names every now and then. I don't think Gregory can be remade, at least not that same version of him. Because he was reabsorbed back into Dream, it's like a drop of water being thrown into the ocean and trying to get that same drop back.
"Turns out I fit right in."
God, the Corinthian scares the crap out of me sometimes.
dream is technically that one friend who everyone always misunderstood but you know deep down his good guy.
But he can be a real A-hole sometimes.
@@Anubisblack yes that's why he needs someone like Lucienne
Tom said in an interview (and I'm paraphrasing) that you have to remember that Dream holds within him every dream that every person has ever had - the good and the bad. And it's hard for him not to be overwhelmed by them. On top of that, he has endless years of his own messed up experiences. So there is a lot of compartmentalization going on. He has to be careful how much he lets himself feel.
When you keep that in perspective, it adds even more depth to Dream and his actions and reactions.
Those ladies that Morpheus was asking questions to weren't the other Endless. Those ladies were the Fates (of Greek mythology). The other Endless are: Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Destruction, and Delirium.
We don't mention Destruction. ;)
@@LeChaunce :D
@@LeChaunce How come? I’m new to this side of DC.
@@asellape9270 The other Endless don't talk about Destruction (in the show and through most of the original comic he's only referred to as The Prodigal, and we didn't even learn he was Destruction until Dream went to seek him out much later in the run).
Therefore we don't out of respect. :)
@@LeChaunce Oh, so that’s who the Prodigal was that Death mentioned in episode (5 or 6, I think?). Gotcha. I was wondering who she was referring to.
Funny thing of the actor who is Sandman. His best mate is Robert Pattinson who's now Batman. And they are also close mates with Andrew Garfield, Spiderman. And Charlie Cox who is Daredevil. Pattinson, Garfield and Cox were all room mates in London before they made it.
I really fell in love with this show. Nice to see you two enjoy it as well.
I’m happy to see you guys reacting to something a little different than your usual. This show is such a delicious mix of dark fairy tale, mythology, magic, heaven and hell, family messiness……..it’s sooooo good!
This show went above and beyond at how well they recreated scenes from the comic books. I LOVED it and I'm sad that I heard they won't be continuing it.
That baby gargoyle is too much adorableness! I want one! ♥️😂
I love this series so much. I don't read the book so I don't know much about it, but I love the visuals and the story telling. It's just beautiful.
yeah, cause the comic is very rare to find in our country right?
I highly recommend reading them if you do get the opportunity. As for the show, season 1 covered issues 1 to 18 (the first two volumes, and then episode 11 is half of the third volume). If it feels like there’s backstory you don’t know, don’t worry, you’re not supposed to… yet. 😉
I love that the Fates name-drop Circe, another sorceress from Greek mythology. She is the daughter of the sun god, Helios, and traps Odysseus and his men on her island.
I’m so excited to see what viewers who are completely unaware of Sandman think of the show. I started collecting these comics when they first came out. So I’ve loved this story and have been waiting for it to come to screen for over 30 years now.
The best transition from the Dreaming to the Waking world is yet to come.
About the library - it contained (and probably will again) dreamworks - books authors intended to write but never did, lost ancient works that are referred to but of which we have, at best, only fragments (The Argonautica of Pherecydes, Sophocles plays, etc.), lost Shakespeare plays (Cardenio & Love's Labour Won), lost paintings and maybe even videos of two more seasons of Star Trek: TOS, 6 more seasons of Firefly. 2 more seasons of Angel and if you dreamed you wrote a book - it's there.
In the comic, he didn’t take Gregory. It was I think certificates or letters of commission that Dream had given to Cain and Abel. But there were a few changes … probably to keep the readers guessing.
Glad to see y’all reacting to this series! 😁30:13 the lady/ladies that Dream met with were The Fates, from Greek mythology.
The Endless are a different thing- they are seven siblings who represent different natural forces or concepts:
Destiny
Death
Dream
D*****(Spoiler, kinda🤷🏾)
Desire
Despair
Delirium
I love that you are invested in this, it just gets better and better wait for the episode with John and the ruby, fantastic, amazing acting all round, just astounding writing too.
Originally, this was straight up a DC comic, so John was actually in _Arkham_ Asylum. His mother never visited him there, she just sent him the talisman. But yeah, in the comic, he's literally running into characters like The Martian Manhunter... Joanna Constantine was John Constantine (the same one that Keanu played). It's really interesting, and I love how they handled this show. It was just... amazing and beautiful, through and through.
Started watching this yesterday. I was sentimental at first. It is surprising how intriguing this is. Its turning up to be amoung the best of what I have watched ever. Tying with the likes of GOT universe, lost, BB, TLK, the flanagan franchise etc
16:09 "Dream of the Endless" sounds so cool! And much cooler than if he said it in German. "Traum von den Ewigen" doesn't have the same ring to it.
I haven't long said goodbye to a very close dog-friend, and those scenes with Gregory were very visceral.
Morpheus is where we get the word morphine from.
Also ethels son is in arkham asylum in the audiobook and joanna Constantine is John Constantine
Only 4 minutes something into the video. Gotta say: 'Neverending Story' shaped my childhood. It litterally inspired me. It's AWESOME! Thanks @Nikki for pointing that out!
So glad you guys are watching this. one of my new favourite shows and a really good adaptation of the comics!
Okay, so. Cain and Abel.
In the late '60s and early '70s, DC Comics published two horror anthology comics -- House of Mystery (hosted by Cain), and House of Secrets (hosted by Abel). In the early 80s, Alan Moore used those characters in the Swamp Thing comic and tied them with the Biblical Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve's first two sons, and in that Biblical tale Cain murdered Abel; Moore came up with the idea that the horror comic hosts were also the Biblical C&A and had a running gag that Cain constantly killed Abel, who was then subsequently resurrected and the cycle started anew.
When Neil Gaiman wrote Sandman (in the late '80s, by the way), he appropriated Moore's interpretation of Cain and Abel as custodians within the Dreaming in service of Dream, since both the House of Mystery and House of Secrets were sources of stories, and what are stories but by-products of dreams?
Hope that helps. :)
Oh, and Lucienne -- as the male Lucien -- was also a horror anthology comic host (Weird Mystery Tales), as were the Fates (Mordred, Mildred and Cynthia, the Three Witches of the comic The Witching Hour). If Sandman gets a second season (or maybe a third) we should also be introduced to yet another DC horror comic host, Eve (Secrets of Sinister House, and, later, Weird Mystery Tales after Lucien), as she is the mother of Cain and Abel.
In the comics, the "high security facility" that holds John Dee may be familiar.
It's Arkham Asylum.
Despite this show being the number one show worldwide, Netflix may not give us a second season because the show costs about $15 million per episode. If they don't, I hope Neil Gaiman can get it to another streaming service that understands quality shows are worth the cost.
HBO could be a nice home for this series
I like the Netflix adaptation BUT I LOVED the Audible audiobook version. It’s like a movie youre listening to with Neil Gaiman narrating the scene. Perfect for road trips or when youre cleaning the house. 😁
I'm soooooo happy you guys are watching this one.
I really like seeing your reactions
The imagination and creativity of the VFX is incredible
The ‘hospital’ is Arkham Aslyum in the Sandman comics, and John is John Dee aka Dr. Destiny. The Sandman is set in the DC universe.
The presence of a female John Constantine and a John Dee who never put on tights implies this universe is just next door.
Great reactions to this episode. It's showing us a lot of cool stuff and sets up the mission for the future. Losing Gregory was sad but then they drop off the egg and now we have Goldie. The Corinthian meeting the woman who stole the stuff was great too and when she used the amulet, that was awesome. Can't wait for the next episode.
I've re-read the 90 or so graphic novels every five years or so. This is such a faithful recreation.
As always you to give such great reactions. I was waiting for her to get emotional at Gregory's fate.
i agree with the mood of the story. i get the feeling of stepping inside a nightmare witch i think was the meaning of it. that beautiful dreams becomes a nightmares. i have never seen a movie with the same kind of mood and this serie is nothing like like i expected. there are times were i forgot that i was watching dream, and not a totally different film. but then i was suddenly back in the main story without feeling i was gone at all. it´s so well done that it does not feel weird. it´s like GOT were you have separate stories but they are all linked to one big story. this was done so smooth that you never knew you left one story and began the new but each episode felt så different from the last.
I do love your reactions. I was on the fence about watching Sandman, but I started it with you.. Looks like I'll be watching it with you.
The Corinthian's eyes are mouths filled with teeth, yes. As he said to Ethel Cripps, when he eats the eyes of his victims using those eyes mouths, he gains all the knowledge and memories his victims possess.
I'm so happy that you watch this show, it is one of the best i'll see so far (ok, GOT, Vikings and Breaking Bad...) the evolution of the character of Morpheus is really beautiful. Sometimes episodes are fantastic (6...) and sometimes less good but just because the previous was awesome (not sure i can express my feelings in a good english sorry..). Have a good time !!! kisses from Belgium :)
I just watched episode 6 last night. The show just keeps getting better!
E6 is so moving! It might have been my favorite episode... (Though I also loved the extra episode that was just released!)
Fun fact: that hospital is actually Arkham Asylum in the comics. And the three women aren't endless at all, they're The Fates, as typically seen in Greek mythology. They were also depicted in Disney's Hercules just instead of going with the triple goddess archetype like they did here (maiden, mother, crone) they went with three old spinsters who all share one eyeball lol.
Dream is not human however he can change and evolve like we can. Only show to show me a gargoyle for 2 mins and make me cry mins later when he's gets re absorbed, that how good Neil gaimans writing is
Nikki you hit it right on the head. This is never ending story meets the matrix. I love the weirdness and the creativity.
The Sandman is all about stories and Gaiman uses lots of mythology (the old stories) to tell this story. It is helpful if you know mythologies to understand a little better, such as the Fates from Greek Mythology, etc.
My Fave show of the year so far ..
I never tried to read the Graphic Novels , but this show is so good.
The Audio Book is so good the descriptions of the dreams by Neil Gaiman with the chilling background music is so emotional. Loving this series so far
If you get a chance, you should listen to the full-cast audio of The Sandman. It’s incredible.
One thing Lucienne mentioned about the dreams leaving because they thought maybe he wasn't coming back, is that this wouldn't be the first time one of the Endless just up and quit their job.
Yeah another Endless quit a long time ago. Don't want to spoil a lot but the Endless' name starts with D.
Glad you are watching this show! Great reaction as well!
PS If you guys need another show you should check our only murders in the building! I think you’d really like it.
If Netflix doesn’t renew another season they can kiss my subscription goodbye.
If they don’t still have your subscription right now, I’m guessing you will eventually renew. Some wrenches have gotten in the gears here and there along the way, but Season 2 is getting there.
The episode 6 is the best of all episodes from any series untill now, it's incredible.
Omggg been waitingggg
I'm not sure of the bible story or whatever, but in the comics, Cain & Abel were the hosts of a mystery/horror anthology series in DC's Silver Age. House of Secrets, and House of Mystery (the latter of which saw the first appearance of our muck buddy, Swamp Thing)
Think the cryptkeeper in Tales From the Crypt x2. They told stories to their guests who were staying the night. And often the issue ended with Cain killing Abel.
I cried when Gregory died and my best friend was like: "Oh come on, you knew him for 5 MINUTES?!" xD
I think dream was more worried about what's going on in the world without him rather than being concerned about himself. He's an Endless. He's been around for eons. 100 years is like sitting in a corner for 5 mins without your phone for him.
the dude with teeth on his eyes is a nightmare created by lord Morpheus to serve him and obey him but he kinda wants to torment humans for his own gain and power
A version of the story of Kain and Able was brought up most recently in the show Lucifer during its third season. I think that most people who aren't familiar with stories from the Bible might know it from there. Interestingly enough, both Lucifer and Sandman are characters from the same universe which you've obviously seen already as I'm only on episode 2 but I see episode 5 on the channel.
This show is amazing, I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it.
Great reaction ❤️
I had a feeling Nikki would cry at Gregory 😥 still waiting for episode 6
can we tell her there's no episode 6, they just go from 5-7

Fun fact Mark Hamill is the Pumpkin guy
Neil Gaiman is a master of creating atmosphere
I really ❤️ you guys!
Great reactions and comments! I'm enjoying this rewatch with you two!
Yes! I love you guys. Keep it up. Hope you'll like this series. For me it opened a new world with all the deep, emotional stories and exciting characters.
Neil Gaiman is great at building stories based on tiny references and myth fragments so that they all become a cohesive idea. Cain and Abel is a great one, in the bible after Cain killed Abel he left to live in the land of Nod. Don't know how common this reference is, but in the UK "the land of nod" is an old euphemism for sleeping, so of course they live in the Dreaming
cant wait for season 2. watched all the episodes except 11 and 5 and 6 were awesome. had to get the Audiobook (dont have patience to read books) to check on what was missing (there is a lot that doesnt really affect the show's story) and a small change here and there.
John in the hospital is professor lupin from Harry Potter 💜💜💜
I cried my eyes out with Gregory's death... Can't believe Nikki didn't cry!
And guys You haven't seeing anything yet.
This show is awesome
Another thing of notice for the Corinthian is he does indeed have 3 working mouths. His “eyes” can eat, speak, and breath for him.
I’ve been a fan of the comics since they started. I was so excited for this series when I heard it was coming.
I have not been disappointed.
The Fates are not part of the Endless.
The Endless who have been named so far are Destiny, Death, Dream, Desire & Despair. There are two others who haven’t been mentioned yet. So far we’ve only met Dream
I'm someone who usually has to read the source material first before I watch something. And then I spend all of my time comparing the film adaptation to the source material, and it takes out some of the joy of watching it...
So I convinced myself so wait until after the show is over to start reading the comics.
That said, after watching S1, I'm having trouble resisting the temptation to get my hands on the comics _right now_!
As a long time fan of the series, what is your advice? Should I read the comics while waiting for S2? Or just enjoy the show as it comes?
@@jcompton8507 just enjoy the series before reading. Neil says because of the expense he’s not sure if there will be a season 2 so if you’ve watched all 11 episodes then get the comics There are some minor changes that don’t really affect the story line.
I am the kind of person who doesn’t mind changes because I like to see other interpretations while still preserving the integrity of the story. I think everyone should take a good fiction into film class & then see how many different versions of their favorite Shakespearean play they can see
Some people have complained about casting & Neil himself has properly spanked them for that.
I’m looking at this as I’ve already read The Sandman & know what happens & I see this production as how Neil would have written the story had he done it today.
Based on changes made to the show, I’m reminded at how White the comic is. I prefer the diverse casting as I see it as more realistic & reflective of real life
There is a character in an upcoming episode who is important to the story but because of licensing agreements he can’t be used so a 21st century version of his 18th century ancestor (an aunt) is used in his place
A major character who is identified as male is played by a woman. In the comic the character had an androgynous look & was modeled after David Bowie from his Space Oddity/Ziggy Stardust era (it’s Brienne of Tarth like you’ve never seen her)
There are moments of violence that have been toned down (shocker I know because there is violence in this show)
In the bonus episode (if you already watched the first 10, they dropped an 11th about a week after the first 10) there is a repeated s*xual assault that happens but on screen it is implied & never shown.
@@invisigoth510 Thank you so much! I've watched all 11 episodes and loved them, which is why I'm so tempted to start the comics.
At least for the time being, I'm going to try to wait and see if the show is renewed for S2. I saw a tweet from Neil that said he has the option for the show to be picked up by HBO or Amazon or whomever if Netflix does not renew. (But I don't know if this means they can keep the same cast or not?)
Became one of my favorite shows!
