      I finally figured out why so many people have trouble figuring this all out. I was having issues with parallel and didn't understand how 1 voice coil could run 500 at 4 ohms, but then get a whole other coil with it's own resistance and the sub would stay at 500 but have less resistance.
      When you do "series" you are linking the coils (4ohm) together, therefore; doubling the resistance because the 500 has to travel through 8 ohms of resistance.
      Then you look at the amp #'s and it says,
      2x250 @ 4ohm
      2x250 @ 2ohm
      1x500 @ 2ohm , the numbers are not important
      this is what messes people without knowledge up, they look at amps and try to apply that same logic to subs, plus most people truly do not know what is happening in the amp.
      What I was doing was, I seen 2x4ohm coils and assumed if they were ran in parallel that the resistance would be 4ohm.
      What I didn't realize is the amp is only ever going to put out 500 at 4ohms, so if I give it 2 coils, that load will be split(50%) between the two coils. Coil 1 uses 250 at 2ohm and coil 2 uses 250 at 2ohms, and 2 x 2ohm loads in parallel = 2 ohms.
      It makes so much sense now. I just learned this and can already answer one of the biggest questions out there:
      Is it better to run series or parallel?
      When you move into a new place, would you rather do it all yourself and get wore out faster, or use 2 people and use half your potential, therefore; lasting longer.
      You can run 500 through a 4ohm wire at 100% for 5 years, or you can buy DVC and split that 500 into 250 and only run each coil at 50% 250 @ 2ohms for 10 years; for example.
      I have not learned much about amps yet and if you actually can use that extra 50% on each coil. If you have 2 coils you have 200%, but in parallel you only use 100% and is why the ohms are 50% lower, but can you use that sub at 200% 1000 at 4ohms, if you can do 500 at 2ohm, why can't I cheat and buy a 1000 @ 4ohm and use both coils to their max.
      From my understanding, DVC is purely to help the longevity. My thing is, if you have SVC and it can do 500 at 4ohm, then you have DVC and it will have 2 x 500 @4ohms, that is not meant to be 2 subs in 1, it is just 2 coils rated the same so you don't have to use one wearing it out faster, you now have 2 coils at low wattage working together to create the desired wattage.
      I think.

    • @shawnbybee85
      @shawnbybee85 3 роки тому

      I see now, the sub's material and construction is only rated for 100% and while you do have 2 subs in 1, 200% if you exceed 100%, you risk ruining your equipment.

    I was planning on using two DVC 4ohm subs wired to 1 ohm but then I plugged in the DVC 2ohm into winisd and it fixed some of the problems I was dealing with so now I am going to do that wired to 2 ohms. Just using this video to double check that it was good to do so, my amp can also do a 2ohm load
    Winisd was showing my cone excursion was too high at around 30-35 hz. Swapping over got me down to like 10hz.
    This is my first build and I got a frefab box (vehicle specific to go under my rear seats) so I was learning how to input the parameters into winisd to choose the proper subwoofer for my enclosure.

    Thought you would be able to advice with this, Have a P1 rockford fosgate sub with a cerwin vega HED600.4 amp (bridged 150W RMS, 4 Ohms) the only speaker attached to it is the sub., the temperature of amp reaches to 60-65 degree, professional blaupunkt wiring, and installation, this overheating is killing me, and thinking of upgrading to a new amp...

    I have 3 factory speaker locations. Bottom door 5.5 to 6.5inch, A-pillar tweeter 1inch and B-pillar 3.5 to 4inch (just behind drivers seat headrest)
    I also have a 5.25inch sub located behind drivers seat. Yes 5.25 inch.
    I am also thinking of adding a powered 8 inch underneath or behind the passenger seat. Something small that can fit but will also get lower Hz than the measly single 5.25
    BUILD MY SYSTEM! Audiofile level equipment only!
    - Do I delete the B-pillar speakers because it will mess up the Soundstage? Or do I take on the task of tuning for proper rear fill?

    Hey guys Im trying to figure out if my 2014 RockfordFosgate 1200w class d mono amp which makes 800w rated at 2ohms is too much for a single Skar Audio SDR10 D2 which has a RMS of 600w and a peak of 1200. The video said you wanted a little more amp than speaker. Wondering if 200w additional is too much.
    The RF prime 1200 amp blew through a RF dual punch p3 10" loaded enclosure. Took about a year and a half. But it was alot of fun while it lasted! Hope the single Skar is tougher than the two Fosgate Punch p3 10's

    Configuration runs as below.
    5 speakers 142 watts 3 ohms each
    1 subwoofer 140 watts 3 ohms not powered.
    I was looking for an amp with matching wattage ..what would you recommend to search for ...iam ok with connecting car amplifiers to these speakers but not sure what's specs to search in. Can you please recommend this to me.
    I am not willing to spend huge money on high end amplifiers

      A monoblock amp is a single channel. Your amp may have dual outputs but those are paralleled. If you connect two 2 ohm voice coils in parallel you will have a 1 ohm load.

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  5 років тому +3

      Persoanlly, I would focus more on what kind of load you want to make first. I purposely have a 2 ohm sub/amp setup. I prefer that because it still offers a lot of power with good efficiency, and I don't need to be the loudest car on the block. Going to 1 ohm gets you a lot more power than 2 ohm so a lot of people prefer that, but your system will be running hot whenever you bump it loud, plus you may need to upgrade power supply deoending on how powerful of a system you put together. From there, I would focus on the subs, favorite brand/style/looks, then an amplifier with the appropriate ratings and impedances to meet your planned system's load

      Look up what your amp pushes at a 4ohm load. It's prob 1/4 of the amps total watt.
      1ohm =1500
      2ohm =900
      4ohm=750 watt
      I'm just guessing. But I bet I'm close.
      But 750 watts to a 500w rms sub is fantastic. That means you're putting adequate power to the sub.
      Again I'm just guessing. You can look uo you're exact amp and see what a 4ohm load output in wattage Is.

      OLD AF lolol, 6 ohm woofers come with strings attached. So two DVC 6 ohm woofers wire to 6 ohm load in series/parallel or a 1.5 ohm load in parallel. Go for parallel and get a 1 ohm amplifier. If they're 1000W RMS each (2,000W RMS combined), get an amplifier that has a range of 1800-2400WRMS @ 1 ohm. But remember, the half ohm will cause a decrease in power. So an amp that does 2000w at 1 ohm will do about 1500w at 1.5 ohm.

I have a stereo power amp that only supports down to 4 ohm loads on each channel and can't be bridged. I also have a dual voice coil 4 ohm sub. It appears that I have three options to connect the two together, 1) Use one channel from the amp and only connect one voice coil, 2) bridge the two voice coils on the sub together and still use on channel on the amp to drive it, or 3) connect each voice coil to a channel on the stereo amplifier. @@ericthegeneric1611 The amp is actually an old home stereo receiver that I was going to use to power a passive sub for home use, so that's why I say the receiver can't be bridged. Based on that, I only have the option of using one channel of the receiver or using both channels to each voice coil of a dual-voice coil sub, which would seem to be a better use of the receiver's power. From what I have read elsewhere, that should work just find as long as I hookup the positive and negative terminals to each voice coil correctly so that the two receiver channels don't fight against each other when powering the voice coils.
