What do you have against presence? hahaha I'd probably turn the treble down and the presence up, to open up the sound. I was waiting for you to do that, but you didn't.
John do you have a b bender on all your teles? I'm in love with your holoflake 1994 cs tele, do you know how many of those were made? I'm looking for one like yours
Got one and love it. Highly recommended if you can find one. Massive sound from the lows to the highs. Came with a spare and (much stronger) leather handle than the custom 57 deluxe and champ. Also very usable at low volume. Even more so than the deluxe which basically goes from off to loud.
John Bohlinger. Thanks for the review since it helped me make a decision between the Fender '57 Custom Deluxe and the Fender '57 Custom Pro. I went with the Pro since I love the top end clarity and with my Fulltone OCD Pedal I can get plenty of overdrive without having to crank the volume. I just think the Pro gives me more flexibility along with my pedals and wasn't sure of this until I saw your review so thanks for the great video. I will definitely look at any of your reviews that come out in the future so keep up the great work.
I have a question for you. Could you please tell me how can I learn to play in the day you do at the begin of this video? I mean... I play many songs, I do rhythm guitar and many solos, arpeggios, improvisation and stuff like this. I am even try to learn techniques such as hybrid picking, tappings and so on. But I can't play that way. Don't master the fretboard like that even if I know musical theory. What kind of technique is that? You hope to have an answer from you and give me a useful indication. Thanks.
On the point of not being able to get it growling at acceptable domestic levels: would an attenuator allow access to the real dirt, without getting evicted?
Thanks for the response. I love it for sure. Thanks also for all the great videos you're making. No doubt some of the best I've seen on lessons, tips, and new gear. Keep up the great work Brother.
Actually it's a pity how sellers making overyone think that these amps and guitars from big companies are gorgeus but they are actually not. Just because they can be supplied regularly and sell it over and over again. This thing costs almost as an original vintage amp, and way more then good boutique copies that delivers really fair sound that you're expecting.
It,s a fender with a fender. What can you say.As a hobbyist amp builder i could make a bandmaster head, a 15" cab a2x10 ,a 2x12" a 3x10 " cab and do it for less than half of what fender wants for that.
After spending $$$ tools, on a nice table saw, router, dovetail jig from portercable, and buying 8 speakers you can do all that for 1250? yeah... don't exaggerate friend.
It's a shame Fender charges such a premium for this amp that cuts so many corners, including a ceramic speaker, a bunch of plug-in connectors and lacks cloth-covered wire.
Jazzmatalex, John B is demoing with a B-bender Tele. It's a Nashville mod where you can bend the B string by pushing the neck down. It's a thing. Just google b-bender and you'll find out all about it.
Does sound sweet . but In my mind that Amp was made for a Gibson John ..now you jack that Tele straite up into A Bassman 4-10 with out a Box or even A Box .. Some reason That Bassman Is a Stand Alone Amp .Not even a Vox AC30 can Touch It . It is a clear sweet Amp that pro .. cheers .
John Geddes, absolutely! My original 59 loves pedals, and it sounds even better dialed. The 12ay7 in the preamp section adds a ton of headroom. The repro is pretty well done, but the original rectifier tube adds so much. I've replaced the power tubes, but I still have the old sylvania and GE preamp and rectifier tubes. I still use an old set of GE 6L6 power tubes if I want lower volume breakup.
Don't know what are you happy about and what's wrong with this amp but it sounds terrible and very nasally. You should expect fat rich growl from this circuit. Thought this one is boutique af, even mercury magnetics transformers doesn't help? If someone knows what's going on with this super-expensive thing please tell!
I played one in person at a local shop yesterday. It sounded amazing to my ears. I tired out a 57 deluxe as well but that amp was way too squishy and compressed. I was looking for a nice solid clean tone with room for drive. 57 twin was too loud and the deluxe was too compressed, this one sounded great. I plan on buying it after I try out 64 deluxe reverb nearby
wanna hear ur tele (or even better - a strat) w/ amp cranked (no pedals), and then dig in w/a solid shuffle and some leads ... I feel short changed, neglected, and disappointed. Need more amp reviews done right - enuf w/the chicken-pickin hybrid shit. Make That Amp Sing
Nothing against the Fender amp, but why is there no criticism? Is there nothing that can be improved on? It's all positive? Doesn't make sense. These so-called reviews tell the consumer very little if anything about the product.
BagBoy the reissue series they have is good enough and is technically handwired (leads from main pcb to tube sockets, heater wires etc). Don't like the pcb main board and preamp board?? Put some chassis mount pots and an eyelet board in there. The fundamental amp is there. The Jensen C12K's they put in them now are terrible tho.
While I agree they reissues are very good - I'd just like to see Fender branch out a bit and maybe release a handwired Bronco or Princeton Reverb. Fender also makes PCB based Tweed amps which are very good. Doesn't mean a few handwired upgrades wouldn't be fun to check out.
BagBoy new price for a 68 custom princeton reverb is $899. That has pre-constructed pcb's handwired to chassis-mount sockets. A completely handwired model made in Corona with a hand-populated and soldered eyelet board, period correct details top to bottom including solid-wood dovetailed cabinet joints would easily be close to 2k. For $1,200 you can find a vintage Silverface Princeton Reverb, which internally, is the same amp as a Blackface model. I don't know man, I'm not seeing the point. I will agree, however that a handwired vintage-correct tube amp made in China without any fancy extra gain stages or other bullshit, ala a Champ/Bronco or even a Vibro Champ would sell like hotcakes.
Australia we are looking at $4995 ig lucky. Pro is over 5k funny as it doesn’t match our crappy dollar. Fender just through big $$$ on any Tweed amp. For a veteran pensioner that guitar is about all I have left that I can do. I’m big JB fan and hitting 50 soon old school rock and blues are my thing. Wife kids took off and my service dog trooper enjoys music so just him and I. The stage days I can’t see myself getting Back. Great vid and love the mag. My deluxe reverb RI is great yet I crave a This amp soo much. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺
Amazing ME first you have to find one. I stumbled across a basket case 59 Pro in the early 90's and spent more to get it running than I paid for it. That said, all the electronics are original except for the tubes. When he said original tweeds were dodgy, it made my blood pressure jump. Apparently he's never played an original tweed, they're all but bulletproof.
Sorry, my mistake. That's a DiMarzio pickup in the bridge and stock in the neck. I can't keep my shit straight.
We still love you John!
What do you have against presence? hahaha
I'd probably turn the treble down and the presence up, to open up the sound. I was waiting for you to do that, but you didn't.
Presence is great. Sometimes I turn it up, sometimes I turn it down. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong.
John do you have a b bender on all your teles? I'm in love with your holoflake 1994 cs tele, do you know how many of those were made? I'm looking for one like yours
I do love benders. My holo flake
I bought around 94. I'm not sure how many were made but that's a great guitar.
Got one and love it. Highly recommended if you can find one. Massive sound from the lows to the highs. Came with a spare and (much stronger) leather handle than the custom 57 deluxe and champ. Also very usable at low volume. Even more so than the deluxe which basically goes from off to loud.
I love the natural compression this thing has. Great work, John!
Being a gitar newbie, I learn a whole lot of tech from your reviews, John. Thanks so much!
I think your take on presence is pretty spot on: It's great when it chimes.
I just picked up a 1977 Vibrosonic Reverb which has a 15 inch speaker. Unique tone that handles a range of pedals amazingly well. Colour me impressed!
Nice amp, beautiful guitar, excellent playing!
Love your style and grace. You did a great job on this review. Love the sound of the 57 pro. Do I want one? Deed I do!
Great period correct playing, great sounding amp. Nice goin' Fender, Tweeds rule.
Way to start off with an old sweet song!
Agreed
Always enjoy seeing JB playing "my" 335. But somehow it always has its pickguard whenever I play it. ;)
great playing. wow
Sounds really sweet.
This guy can make anything sound good
I have a question for you. Could you please tell me how can I learn to play in the day you do at the begin of this video? I mean... I play many songs, I do rhythm guitar and many solos, arpeggios, improvisation and stuff like this. I am even try to learn techniques such as hybrid picking, tappings and so on. yes very cool now reissue the pro reverb!
Awesome review, killer amp!!
Really Nice Playing!!!!
Excellent musicianship and info...great!
I like this Guy he appreciates the old time equipment.
6:42 "Set down on em, Amos! Make it count, son!"
I came hear to hear John play! :o)
Nice job...thanks for posting!
Have you had a chance to compare this to the Bandmaster they put out a few years back? If so, what's the difference in sound?
Sounded great with the 335
On the point of not being able to get it growling at acceptable domestic levels: would an attenuator allow access to the real dirt, without getting evicted?
Yes
The 335 sounded so much more jangly than the Tele...interesting. Probably that Duncan pickup....wait DiMarzio pickup.
I love recording amps with the SM7.
Hard to beat, imho.
John what is the song you are playing at the beginning Brother? Love the progression.
My take on Ray's take on "Georgia". Ray's version blows my mind.
Thanks for the response. I love it for sure. Thanks also for all the great videos you're making. No doubt some of the best I've seen on lessons, tips, and new gear. Keep up the great work Brother.
Thanks David
How does it compare to the bassman ltd reissue?
Actually it's a pity how sellers making overyone think that these amps and guitars from big companies are gorgeus but they are actually not. Just because they can be supplied regularly and sell it over and over again. This thing costs almost as an original vintage amp, and way more then good boutique copies that delivers really fair sound that you're expecting.
Could you be any less specific?
Yep. Gonna have to get one of these
I am using 1483 Silvertone 26 Watt made by Danelectro with a new 15 Inch Webber special Speaker. I love it better than any tweed.
I’m considering a trade for one of these. This review was useful, thanks
That 335 is beautiful
What year is it? I'm not the least bit nostalgic about equipment that someone built way before I was even born.
Tele is a 67.. 335 is 73-ish
Are you talking about the reissue Fender Pro?
@@vrcimino1250 no, I was talking about the original. I might look into a reissue though. That would be cool.
Love the B bender
DIME THAT PIG - killer tone
Cool.but why no Jensen speaker?
It,s a fender with a fender. What can you say.As a hobbyist amp builder i could make a bandmaster head, a 15" cab a2x10 ,a 2x12" a 3x10 " cab and do it for less than half of what fender wants for that.

It's a shame Fender charges such a premium for this amp that cuts so many corners, including a ceramic speaker, a bunch of plug-in connectors and lacks cloth-covered wire.
Can you explain what is this thing behind your bridge on your guitar? Is it B string connected to it?
Jazzmatalex, John B is demoing with a B-bender Tele. It's a Nashville mod where you can bend the B string by pushing the neck down. It's a thing. Just google b-bender and you'll find out all about it.
yup
Thanks a lot
Yes I agree $2,500 is such soft price, I think i'll get 3.
It is a clear sweet Amp that pro .. cheers .
your strings sound brand new, might be a bit of trebbly string noise. good sound all the same
Sounds very compressed to my ears....but you make everything sound good John! \m/ cheers
Very funny. That is totally uncompressed.
sharpen flat you don’t hear the natural tube compression here with this amp???? I’m pretty sure it’s there. Lol 😂
Skip tube distortion for a pedal?
John Geddes, absolutely! My original 59 loves pedals, and it sounds even better dialed. The 12ay7 in the preamp section adds a ton of headroom. The repro is pretty well done, but the original rectifier tube adds so much. I've replaced the power tubes, but I still have the old sylvania and GE preamp and rectifier tubes. I still use an old set of GE 6L6 power tubes if I want lower volume breakup.
John Geddes the old times sound like the pedal, with more sag and less mids.
With the bender tele😀👍
What was the opening riff played on the tele? 👀👅🎸
Derek Adams Georgia On My Mind. I really like that arrangement, too.
Andrew Elias who makes a good version of the song? 👀
Ray Charles.
john bohlinger I mean on a good guitar focused version 🎸
I'm sure there are some good ones out there. I just have not heard any. This is just my own little arrangement.
Georgia! Georgiaaaa
That is you play the guitar
Great performance and review! Horrid lighting.
Was it a shop light sitting on the floor?
Don't know what are you happy about and what's wrong with this amp but it sounds terrible and very nasally. You should expect fat rich growl from this circuit. JB rules!
Pro jr or 57 champ hummmmm.
Here comes AAAAAMOS
wanna hear ur tele (or even better - a strat) w/ amp cranked (no pedals), and then dig in w/a solid shuffle and some leads ... I feel short changed, neglected, and disappointed. Need more amp reviews done right - enuf w/the chicken-pickin hybrid shit. Make That Amp Sing
you dozen that amp youmdont dime it ( it goes to 12) sorry bad joke
Wadenkrang Guttenberg so this amp is one louder than Spinal Tap's amps?
Wadenkrang Guttenberg
As the shit song had it: 'Words......don't come easy'.
that's a whole lotta talking there...
Nothing against the Fender amp, but why is there no criticism? Is there nothing that can be improved on? It's all positive? Doesn't make sense. These so-called reviews tell the consumer very little if anything about the product.
Video: 4:00 - 'I love 15s!'
Video description: 'I’d never really played through a 15” guitar speaker before...'
Phil L John doesn’t do the written reviews, someone else does. So that person probably hadn’t before.
Overdriven, very ratty sounding. Why can't I find an amp that is harmonically rich with warm, thick overtones?????
Fender needs to stop releasing handwired Tweeds and release a few handwired Blackface amps.
BagBoy yesyes
That would be cool

Gee, only $2500! Where do they come up with this nonsense? smh
Ken Han fair market value, simple, like a ferrari is just a car ,right?poor person problems
Would you like to price an original 57-59 Pro tweed? A basket case starts at $2K.
Australia we are looking at $4995 ig lucky. Pro is over 5k funny as it doesn’t match our crappy dollar. Fender just through big $$$ on any Tweed amp. garbagio...go out and play a real tweed....yeah exactly
Amazing ME first you have to find one. I stumbled across a basket case 59 Pro in the early 90's and spent more to get it running than I paid for it.
