I stumbled onto this video interview with Don and..wow..it was awesome. I love his candor. Despite his reputation for being an arrogant SOB, I really like his brutal honesty, as I am the same way. I travel the country full time as a solo female nomad in my van, and I regularly play Dokken on my road playlist. Never gets old. He is one of the very best rock vocalists ever. It's nice to see he is alive and doing well, despite all the "getting old" ailments we all have. I saw the band several times back in the day, including the 1988 tour with the other big names. Thanks for the walk down memory lane and the update on one of the best rock bands of the best era ever!
@@thomasbonnett4800 Yes, he is highly intelligent and insightful. It's cool that you see past the fact that you're not a Dokken fan in general but still appreciate his interviews.👍
Don's new song Fugitive absolutely took me back to the 80s! Actually, it blew my mind. I always thought Don was the hard one to work with. But after watching podcasts with Jeff and George lately. It's easy to see Don was the one who had the best interest of Dokken. With that being said..... Thanks, Don, for all your awesome work. Hat's off to you! #dokkenrocks
@@BattlelinePodcast my pleasure. I am the same age as you, having discovered Dokken in my highschool years way after they were a major success in the 80s. Glad to see Don is still making music.
Up from the Ashes is my favorite Dokken album. Even though labeled Don Dokken it's another Dokken album. This album has to be reissued on a 2 lp version! Don, if you read this comment this album needs reissued right away. I spent 80 bucks on an original but want a reissue on 2 lp. Make it happen Don!
Kinda surprised to hear Don say the "magic wasn't there" at 08:57 considering Jeff's vocals REALLY helped cover for DON. I believe it all came down to money. Don's current band is NOT an equal pay situation and a reunion would have been. Don also never seems to miss a chance to take a jab or two at George and/or Jeff. I've been watching a lot of these interviews with Don and George since they both have albums coming out. Listening to how George speaks of Don vs how Don speaks of George is pretty sad.
Appreciate you checking it out. As you’ll hear during the interview, a reunion would actually NOT be an equal pay situation since Don is the sole owner of the name.
@@BattlelinePodcast he may be the owner of the name but I’m sure if the original 4 got back together the other 3 members would expect equal pay. I think George has mentioned that a few times during his recent interviews for the new Lynch Mob album. I’ll try to find a link to one of them where he references the pay
100% correct!!! Don has zero problem embellishing him or his achievements...saying George was a roid / coke head amongst other shit...not cool...Don loves to talk about how great Don is....these interviews have kinda ruined it for me...fan since 83 and seen them every trip to Rhode Island until 2003 when his voice shit it...take the high road Don...and get off the political soap box
When my girlfriend broke up with me in the 80's I listened to Tooth and Nail a lot. It is such a great record and kind of helped me get through that period. Always enjoy listening to Don. Very smart guy.
If I saw Don on the street, I would walk up and shake that mans hand and say 'thank you'. Ultimate respect for that guy. Also, he was speaking about being a support band instead of a headliner. When I saw Dokken, they were with Aerosmith and Dokken blew Aerosmith off the stage. Dokken freakin' rocks hard.
Algorithm took me to your channel today. Always liked Don in his interviews as he is straightforward and not politically, correct. Great interview and now I'm a subscriber! Ps. Funny considering his vocal issues that he's smoking.... Anyway, saw them open for Aerosmith on the back for the attack tour as well as the monsters of rock tour. You can tell by then they were mailing it in performance-wise... Though I will always say they stood out in the 80s among the other bands
Any chance to made interviews with : 1- Uriah Heep menbers 2-Jeff Waters (Annihilator) 3- P Ridd (Sacred Reich) 4- Mike Muir (Suicidal T.) 5- Cronos or Mantas (Venom Venom Inc) 6- Eddie Ojeda or Jay Jay French(Twisted Sister) 7-PRONG 8-Lita Ford 9- Chris Caffery or Oliva Jon (Savatage ,TSO,Spirits of Fire) 10-Don Dokken11 Bobby Blotzer or Juan Croucier(Speak Spanish ) from Ratt.12Tyketto Danny - Phil Soussan Rudy Sarzo - Ynwie - Vixen Britt De Naro 23- Bobby or Ray Fates Warning - Lizzy Borden Vescera ex Ynwie Zetro Exodus Cheers !!!!
Those are some big requests!! 😆 90% of the time we tend to cover military and 2a guests, but at some point some of the above would be awesome. Thanks for listening.
Once again Don I love these podcasts and numerous topics you talk about especially the personal things cause the music stuff I've heard numerous times I love your honesty ect people think that famous people have perfect lives ect and you're human like everyone else ❤
Dokken was going to play in my area with Quiet Riot and Great white. There was an opening band also. We made it halfway through Great White and a storm came up and shut down the show so I never did get to see them.😢❤
prefer the old dokken by far the sound JLynch was the magic!!!! don had a great voice back in the day...2 live shows here 80s don was allways the KING of COOL in my book
Being up one day and mopey the next is hardly bi polar! Come on Don as someone diagnosed bi polar you do want to die sometimes regardless of having children
Great interview. Don always seemed like a No BS type of dude, so why is he getting his info from the MSM? He has way more to fear from the US Uniparty than he ever does from Putin.
Don has the Def Leppard albums mixed up! They made Pyromania in 9 months. He is thinking of Hysteria, lol. It took over 3 years for Def Leppard to do their best one. He is 70 so I won't hold it against you Don.
Poison yes but Motley Crue had some heavy songs too like dr feelgood and red hot. A lot of the songs on theatre of pain were about crime and the mob like fight for your right and keep your eye on the money
Yea Motley Crue were a heavy metal band early on on the first 2 albums Too fast for love and Shout at the devil, the first 2 Crüe albums were comparable to Judas Priest. theatre of pain too still had some heavy songs like use it or loose it, fight for your rights, but starting with theatre of pain is when motley started to get softer, and I think motley Crüe turned into a hair metal band with girls and dr feelgood even though those 2 still had a few heavy songs like wildside, dr feelgood and kickstart my heart, but during the girls and dr feelgood era motley started to sound more like warrant and poison, than heavy metal which is how they sounded on the first 2 albums
@@musicfan1086I think a lot of bands had the warrant and poison sound in the late 80s. Even quiet riot in the late 80s tried to go more commercial before the firing of their singer kevin
Why do Dokken early albums all sound good in 2023 and stand the test of time? because Dokken were never considered by the fans as a Hair band. end of story.
Skip the first 5 minutes....then onto Don's embellishing his career and greatness while shitting on everyone... moving to France if Trump wins....seeeeee ya!!!!!
Also at 21:27 for Don to say George had NOTHING to do with Dysfunctional except for one solo. Come on.... His solo's on that album are some of the best. He has 4 writing credits on the album. Sure, it was meant to be a Don Dokken SOLO album, but I think Don is rewriting history. I remember hearing interviews in the 90's and reading articles that basically said Don couldn't secure a record deal UNLESS George was a part of it. Love Dokken and like Don, but it’s always a bummer to listen to how he talks about the original line up.
He also says that one solo is for "Too High To Fly", except that the studio version has no solo, which is a shame because it's over 7 mins and a solo would really take it to the next level.

The only Maiden album I liked from Kevin Shirley was Brave New World. He did junk on the rest of them. Miss the 80's Maiden mixing. Maybe it isn't Kevin since they have 3 guitarists. Wish Janik would leave.
Don always gives good interviews. A very knowledgeable, smart, charismatic guy.
