    Found an abridged version in a 6 year old reddit thread that references myself talking about it in several posts a year or two before that. Couldn't find those older posts though. 'THAT' being that I believed PCVR wouldn't go mainstream on Steam until the ease of use, form factor and hardware specs were good enough that it became a viable monitor/multi-monitor replacement where you got to play your Flat Screen Steam library on 'Virtual' huge 4K OLED monitors. ie. Once VR HMD's became virtually no compromise and cheaper than a real large screen 4k Multi-Monitor setup, they'd start selling to the Steam masses like hotcakes for that use-case alone...and very quickly these Steam VR Hold-outs, would try out Virtual Cinemas...and then VR Porn too. Inevitably they'd realise they were leaving a major use-case on the table if they didn't also try a few actual VR games too. Thats when Developers would start to see the uptick in PCVR Title sales. A reverse of the 'If you build it they will come' maxim. 'If they come you will build it'. TLDR. Ironically, Steam Users buying VR HMD's to play Flat-screen games is what will eventually help make PCVR games mainstream. Had you told me 8 years ago when I first posted my theory about what it would take for PCVR to go mainstream, that at the end of 2024 we still wouldn't have gotten there yet, I wouldn't have believed you and gotten very depressed. in some respects it feels like the tech has advanced very fast but in other respects it feels like the rate of technological progress in VR is glacial. Hopefully a Deckard release in 2025 is when it finally happens. ie. A wireless Deckard with 130deg FOV 3000x3000+ pixels per eye FALD LCD (Micro-OLED still has too many issues and limits FOV), Inside out tracking so no need for expensive hassle to mount Lighthouses, Passthrough to see your peripherals on the desk.

      Flat-screen games can be retrofitted fairly easy using AI, with a shader injector and usimg old school SBS 3D.

    I do think they're going to advertise the deckard as a vr headset with a built in steam deck so you can play on a huge virtual screen in mixed reality and a new flat half life game will be announced to go with it!

    You can should do a video or investigation into why Meta have decided not to give everyone a chance to see the black Friday sales. I thought they had just gave up on games being on sale as I haven't seen any for months only to find out that they just decide who gets to see them. Despite myself buying 100's of games.
    Considering you can't buy the games anywhere else I feel this is something really shifty from Meta

    I can't help but feel a small sense of loss from seeing there are no touchpads on the Roy controllers. I thought the Index ones were well implemented and I enjoyed using them. When reports came in that the controllers would have inputs that allowed for flat gaming too I had a glimmer of hope that Valve might have somehow figured out how to smush the steam decks control suite onto the top of a VR controller. Alas it was not meant to be. I do hope that they stick with the easy repairability ethos that have chosen like they have with Steamdeck.

      You might be the only person I've ever seen suggest that they like and use the Index controller's touchpads. I'm pretty sure that they are rarely used in the general population, particularly since most games don't map them to anything. I'm curious what your use case is? How are you using them exactly?

    • @LafingAnarkist
      @LafingAnarkist 21 день тому

      @SargonDragon I play a lot of Hotdogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades which uses the touchpads quite heavily for certain gun interactions. That along with arm swinger for movement and just real world turning means I never have to touch the sticks in game. I can't explain why that's so satifying to me but I completely understand that I'm and edge case for sure and we all need to accept the more popular control schemes.

    What is computer vision?

    • @ocarinaholder5270
      @ocarinaholder5270 21 день тому +1

      Computers being able to understand visual information with cameras or sensors

    • @David-UploadVR
      @David-UploadVR 18 днів тому +1

      Computers using fancy algorithmics to sense the world and/or track objects using cameras. In this case, we mean the headset's cameras track the constellation of IR LEDs under the plastic of the controller.

    I am still not convinced, that deckard is released soon. From an economic standpoint it makes more sense for valve to develop software like steamlink, rather than releasing an own headset.

    Wonder if Valve could launch two Deckards, a cheapo Deckard S and more expensive Deckard Pro. Both using same controllers.

  • @SnackXHunter
    @SnackXHunter 17 днів тому

    I hope Deckard can be used as a stand alone … I don’t have a PC that can handle a game like Half Life … but if the headset was stand alone wouldn’t need a PC

    Big screen beyond. Big screen beyond. Agggh! $999? No.
    Apparently with exchange rate and tax in the UK somehow it's actually. £1149.
    (I actually don't know how they worked that out!?!?
    $999 dollars should be £784 x1.2 for VAT should be £940 right? Did they just say ah fuck it we don't want to deal with the Brits and add £200?)
    And with prescription lenses, which I would need.
    It comes to £1238
    Goddamn. That feels so expensive even with a "free" audio strap and "free" shipping.
    😢
