I had a bunch of chain link dog run panels that I wasn't using and I wanted to build a chicken pen. It took some trial and error as well as a few mistakes to get it to where it is now but it is finally secure and working well for what I want. Attaching the coop to it took a little ingenuity but I think it works perfect. Let me know if you see any modifications worth making or if you have any questions I can answer. Also, please like and subscribe to my videos so you can see what I'm up to.

I had the same problem with squirrels so I just started shooting squirrels. Problem solved

More fun, but I have neighbors with kids so I am extra careful, even with a pellet gun.

I was looking for videos like this on using a dog kennel as a run. I was planning to use one of my kennel panels over the top as you did. I have to same clamps and was thinking it would definitely work. Thank you for this video now I'm confident my plan is going to work!

I don't understand how you open the gates with all that chicken wire.

The spaces between the fencing and the joint seems easy enough to make more secure with the chicken wire. But, what about the actual gap between the gate and fencing? What can I do so I can get into my coop but still keep predators out? In my area, we have lots of predators that would easily fit between the gate and the section on either side of the gate......rats, raccoon, foxes.

I ran chicken wire all the way across the gate and didn’t cut it on the hinge side. It just bends when I open the gate. Most of my predators are larger so they can’t squeeze through the tiny areas.

I built something very similar, but covered it with 1/4" or 1/2" welded hardware cloth, about four feet up, and am currently working on extending it over all the chain link. I live in So Cal desert, and rats or other critters have gone thru the chainlink, and bit off their beaks, which is a horrible injury, and they could eat chicks and eggs.

Thank you for the info and link about the metal clips. I hadn't known about these. I ordered a set. Have you found them to be strong enough to withstand predators trying to get in?

The only thing that’s been able to break in was a mountain lion. It caved in the top.

Mine is holding up well, though squirrels and other rodents can still get in and out as well as small birds. I think I need to build a new coop with smaller mesh so I don't waste so much food.

@@KetoKevin I'm so sorry that happened to your chickens 😥,.
I built a similar 'dog kennel to chicken run'. I live in a So Cal desert suburb. People and houses all around me. When I was working on improving the wire ceiling late at night, a couple of months ago, a mountain lion leaped onto the outside of the chainlink, with his face 3" from mine, with chicken wire between us. It was huge, but oddly had a friendly attitude towards me. When I said "What are you doing here?" it actually looked down at the chickens around my feet! I yelled at it to go, and it jumped down. I saw it 2 or 3 more times in my yard, but haven't seen it in the last few weeks. Since then, I've been desperately trying to find more hardware cloth I can afford, to protect my birds. I had seen coyotes, fox, raccoons, rats, hawks, eagles, dogs, and I assumed there were bobcats in our area, but I hadn't thought mountain lions. Seeing him that close to my face, was one of the weirder animal experiences I've had. He seemed so friendly.
A lady just a couple of miles from our house, reported seeing a dogman in the wash, a few months back. Uh oh ... Not an experience I want to have .

I live in the high desert near Wrightwood. That is a weird experience. That’s scary! I have to ask though, what is a dogman?

Terry Carpenter no problem:) it's working out well. Another bobcat or something ripped up a tarp on top trying to get in one night but all the chickens were fine:)
