i have the same kennel.. Basically same set up .. except i use some pvc pipe to build the nesting boxes on the outside of the back end.. Basically buit a shielf on the back, and used some sheet metal to build the boxed..covered the wholething in shade cloth . Split 3inch pvp pipe long ways and attatchedto bottom rails to make a slide.. the whole coop can be moved around by one person to fresh grass daily .
Well eggs at the store are exploding in price rn along with ⛽, so l already have the dog kennel in the yard just not using it. Had a goat, for awhile that was fun. So l decided cause others are getting chickens around me guess l will too.
Nice idea but I would dig down a little bit then place some larger rocks around the border because raccoons and Fox will both dig right underneath that easily
@@floridagirl386 correct. I will eventually have to reinforce the fencing because it will eventually rust. But as of right now, nothing has been able to dig under and get through the fencing.
A year later is there anything you would change about what you did I have a 6 foot 10 pen like that and I’m fixing to have to attach the wood and build a metal roof so any advice is awesome.
We did something similar to this last year. Best thing we did was use metal zippy ties (got 100 of them for around $13 on Amazon) to tie hardwire cloth around the bottom 1/3 of of the pen, and also secure hardwire cloth to the ground to keep out racoons. You could use the ties to loop around wood to secure the roof, but we used galvanized plumbers tape to hold the wood onto the metal fence and the roof onto the wood. It's held up well (knock on wood) You can also get it on Amazon but it was cheaper at Lowes. If I had to do over, I'd use both the zippy ties and the galvanized tape just for extra security. Good luck!
Great ideas. I wish you would have shown more step by step how you attached the 2x4 to the kennel and then attached the roofing and side panels. This is my sticking point right now in converting my coop.
Neat idea, I had a raccoon ripe through the chicken wire, which had been layed over 2"x4" fencing & kill my chicks by pulling them through the hole they made (sadly they only got their heads because their bodies were too big to pull through). I only use hardware cloth at least 2 feet high & finally bought an electric fence as well, too many coyotes.
That’s sad. We set up a blink camera and have captured wild life checking it out. So far so good. Thank you for your comment. I’ll try to find the video and link it.
Idk I am not keeping a chicken if it can not be permitted to dig ! I have a similar kennel 20 x 8 about 7 ft tall ! Deep litter and the chickens just dig all day never finding anything but they sure seem to enjoy it !

we did almost the same thing in 2019
it’s holding up fabulous!! Great Work!!!
Heavy gauge hardware cloth would be better than the chicken wire running across the bottom of the fence. Raccoons can't mess with that.

To solve that we attached a piece of farm fence to the bottom. They dig and dig but can’t get through the fencing.
@@boompowzapto the bottom of the actual kennel itself?

@@boompowzap haha I commented that right before you showed it. I'm sorry. That's awesome! I may just do that.

Sorry about that. We hit a snag in our production and didn’t record everything.

I use 1/4inch hardware cloth for all my poultry. Quail and chickens. I saw so many people lose chickens growing up because chickweed fails

Thank you for the post. I'm about to do the same project
what is the undulating mounting pieces you use to lay the metal on called? where did you get it?
Excellent job
Great video! This was helpful!
Those are good ideas. Thanks so much for sharing.
Don't forget about the snakes. Might need to anchor it to the ground. Smaller screening all around.
We put farm fence underneath
Nicely done
Nice coop
Beautiful ❤️
