    Never saw the Beatles in concert but did see Paul in 1976 in Seattle Wings over America, will never forget it. Paul's voice boomed and the place went crazy when he belted out Beatles songs. Paul McCartney is the greatest singer/ song writer of the 20th century!

    Everyone saying he should retire - I'm 17 and I haven't had the chance to see him live yet and I would give an arm or leg to go to one of his concerts. Sure, his voice is gone - but just seeing McCartney live is one of my life goals. So, no, he shouldn't give up - and I really really really hope he performs in the UK where he is from😢

      It was a no excuses journey for me to go at least hear Paul McCartney at the closing of Candlestick Park.
      I had no means for a ticket so I stood watching those who did go in and settled for dancing alone outside and sort of being able to see through the doors window at the right angle a bit of one of the Jumbotrons and it was tiny but something.
      Then somebody throwing away a lot of old pipes and air vents in a cart that must have been from a bathroom saw me trying to watch had let me slip inside and through an area I could safely see the Jumbotrons much better while be out of the way of the gutting of so much of the interior in a huge hurry because Candlestick had to be gone beginning the very next day.

From a fan in the UK who hasn't seen McCartney (save for a brief appearance at Live8 - yes, I was there!) since 2003 because of the ticket prices. I don't care that his voice is shot. His voice has EARNED a rest. He wrote 'em, he can still play 'em, forget the critics! x

      No wonder that at 80 the voice is no long as crisp as it was at 30. Mine is cracking already at 64 (when I'm sixty four). But Paul can still dance on the stage and endure more than an hour of intense playing on different musical instruments, which is already amazing.

    I'm probably one of Paul's greatest fans but I'm sad to hear his voice slipping up in his old age. He is an amazing talent and I wish him well. I saw Paul twice a couple of decades ago and he was awesome. He was late to his soundcheck in Las Vegas. The crowd had not been allowed into the concert hall but it was very late. Then, I recall hearing the piano riff from Lady Madonna and everyone went nuts For some reason Paul and the Band arrived late at the MGM eventhough it was a 2 night performance. I was there for the 2nd night.

    It can be unsettling to see someone age but what really impressed me about the show was how engaging he was at nearly 80. Paul is still a wonderful entertainer. He can still cut it up with the best of them. I can only imagine what it must have been like to see all 4 of them together at one time. I would love to hear the stories from those lucky bastards.

    • @barryw2659
      @barryw2659 Рік тому +4

      Steve, I saw them on September 15, 1964 in Cleveland (I was 8 and my father took my sister and I). Since you asked for a story I will tell you something about that night which is a little different from the ones you've probably heard. First, that show has the distinction of being the only Beatles show (as far as I know) which was stopped in the middle. The Chief of Police came on stage and told everyone to sit down or else the concert wouldn't continue. I read that the Beatles were pissed by that. Everyone eventually sat down and then as soon as the 1st downbeat started everyone jumped up and raced towards the stage again.
      Second, most stories talk about the noise, and of course it was deafening. One thing I remember, however, were the flashbulbs that were constantly going off from the cameras (smartphones of course weren't around). As a result, the auditorium stayed as bright as daylight for most of the 30 minutes the Beatles sang. When it wasn't constant light it seemed like the whole place was under a strobe light. Almost 60 years later I still remember the entire experience like it was yesterday.

      It was a beautiful New England summer evening. The park was full and the crowd had an electric feel. We were on the field where the second base infield meets the outfield. The sound live was perfect. This does not always translate to the phone as expected. The big screens provide an up close feel even thought we were quite a distance from the stage. The show started at approximately 7:20 and went non stop for 3 hours. No backup band, no break. I think people under estimate the stamina needed to do this. Not bad for a young gourd and let alone a 80 year old. His banter in between songs was enlightening to his relationship with George, Ringo and John. His was witty and charming. His drummer was outstanding. I believe he has been with with Paul for quite some time. We sat next to 3 your guys that were from Liverpool and were following him around. The legend lives on.

      I went, loved it and was as thrilled as I was when I saw them on Sullivan when I was 7. I'm 67 now. If you critics only get your kicks from a perfect studio cut, buy one and stay home with it. You really will never get the amazing lifelong experiences people like me who have had this unbelievable soundtrack of our lives these guys have given us. I feel sad for all the people who will never get that magical joy and exuberance that I've had all my life-not just from listening to a record, but the whole blast from the first time I saw these guys, heard the music shared in the fun and laughter and adventures . Thanks, John, Paul, George and Ringo. It's been the best high ever!!!!!

      Also he doesn't even sound bad, his voice gets better through the tour, if you watch Glastonbury you will understand. He sounds fine there
