  • New Lightweight Tent! Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 1 Person. How does it compare to the MSR Hubba NX?
    TENT in this video - amzn.to/3gN3aov
    Great little wild camping tent this one! I take a look at the Copper Spur HV UL 1 by Big Agnes, a great lightweight camping tent. I've made some brief comparisons to the MSR Hubba NX 1 person tent. Both are very similar but I think I know which I prefer for multi-day hiking like the coast to coast or east highland way - where I used the Copper Spur. Edit - I checked and I paid £360. Something I did not mention in the video!

    Thanks for sharing, Simon! I can't agree more, it's a really great tent. I was on the WHW with the two person version and absolutely loved it. Easy and fast to pitch up and down in any condition. It withstood downpoor, hailstorms and really heavy galeforce winds in the Glencoe area. Other tents were blown away, Big agnes provided me with cosy and dry shelter for me and my gear. Dries up very fast and no problems with condensation.
    Worth every penny!
    Edit: I recommend purchasing a few additional tent pegs for windy conditions. It's well worth it

    I have the BA 2 person size. The thing I don't like is the floor size, it's not square and fitting two pads is impossible. So essentially a 2 person is a 1 person. The new MSR Hubba series now have square floors and a 2 person size will fit two pads nicely side by side.

    Good to see you are pleased with your Big Agnes. As I previously mentioned I had the 2 man version on backorder last spring, but ended up cancelling it with ongoing restrictions and the increasing price from the States. Also I expect it to get a minor upgrade soon.
    How did you find the waterproofness and abrasion resistance of the bathtub in Scotland, as it is not that heavy duty? Also did you look at their additional groundsheet, which allows the outer to be pitched first? A bit pricey - but adds flexibility.
    Anyway good to see you uploading again. ATB

    • @SimonOutdoors
      @SimonOutdoors  2 роки тому +2

      Waterproofness is spot on mate, abrasion resistance seems good so far. I know they are thinner but unless you scrape it along something really sharp I think you will be good. And that would probably rip any tent. I think it's the fact it is thin that might put some people off but no problems so far. I didn't look at that mate, great shout - will take a look. Great to hear from you, are you thinking of ordering the 2 man again? Cheers, Si

      @@SimonOutdoors Thanks for the feedback Simon.
      Yes the BA Copper Spur is still top of my list, but I am tracking news on updates, pricing and improved availability.
      For instance there is a new 'Long' version of the Copper Spur 2-man due out in a couple of months.
      So if you are looking to switch to the UL2 that would be ideal for you...
      UL2 Reg Long
      RRP: $499 $529
      Length 224 244 cm
      Height 102 109 cm
      Width same
      Weight 1.22 1.30 Kg
      .
      As for me, I may just wait until next spring - as I am thinking of heading over to the States next year to walk more of the PCT (first started in the 80's 😂). So that could save me a fair bit of money, shipping costs, and ensure I get the latest model...

We did camp one weekend in torrential rain and it felt like a river running underneath but we were dry which is the most important thing. Hi Simon, the thermarest and the sea to summit air bed fit really well in the abisko lite 1 ... can't wait to go camping!
    I have a question about your abisko : on the inside of the outer fly where the main zip is, at the bottom just below the female velcro tab do you have a round hole about 5mm across on the main fabric? I'm wondering if this is a defect or a drain hole where the fabric is doubled up?...Many thanks Alan.

    Hey man,
    I’ve pretty much settled on getting some version of this tent. I’m 195cm tall as well and was wondering if I’d fit with a 10cm pad and a warm sleeping bag.
    There is the Long version of the UL2 now, but that’s obviously heavier, more expensive and not green haha.
    Do you have to sacrifice certain things in the UL1 (like head touching the inner tent, not sitting upright, touching the sides etc.)
    I have a background in hammock camping and am therefore used to confined spaces. At the same time I am looking for a little more space and luxury. If the UL1 ends up being a compromise for weight that might not fit my needs.
    Cheers!

    • @SimonOutdoors
      @SimonOutdoors  Рік тому +1

      Hi mate, I fit in it fine with a 10cm bag and warm pad also. My head doesn't touch when I sit up and I don't touch the sides. It's also long enough. The overhead pocket is genius and with the vestibule you've still got a decent amount of space. Hope it helps :)

    How does the copper spur performs in wind in comparison to the Hubba?
    I would expect it would perform quite the same because it has similar poles and a similar if not same pole structure as the hubba (and similar hight etc.).
