I’m new to the leather craft craft…what’s the black ink looking stuff you were rubbing on the flowers? It really makes the pattern pop…. Big fan of your work,Thank you

I've been using a wood dowel to slick my edge and it's just not producing the finish I want. What were you using to slick your edge? Thanks. Beautiful work.
Also, what shading stamps did you use?

What kind of wood is the dowel? Also what are you using to seal the edge? These both play a roll.
Looks like he was using cotton canvas, and a steel rod of some kind. Denim also works. Personally I don't get as good of result from denim or canvas, but I use either of them in strap goods. It's faster pulling a belt or purse strap through your hand that to run a stick back n forth.
I sand my edges to at least 320 grit before slicking. Preferably higher, like 600 but I've run out and have gone in to town to get some more. I use a cocobolo slicker, but I've also used the wooden tool handles on my edgers. If you go to the hardware store and get plastic pullies they work excellent to. MyI've been using tokenole (spelling may be wrong) lately, but the bar saddle soap with some water and bees wax also does a great job. Out of everything you do in leathercraft, edges are probably where most the time is spent. It's one of those minor details that can make or break the feeling of quality good.

Great video. What is the function of the middle welt piece of leather that you add in? I’ve seen some craftsman make pancakes with out this step and wondering why some add it and some dont

The welt is to protect the threads for on open blade. Keeps the cutting edge of the knife from sliding between the layers and cutting the threads out. Normally, you would use a heavier weight (thicker) leather for a welt. Adds a level of protection to your project. Hooe this helps!
