    It's a cool product, but I'll stick with physical media. I don't want K Scape to be in control of what I can watch. There's pride and security in ownership.

      Well you see they don't just use any ol' hard drives... oh no! Every wire inside the hard drive was manufactured by Monster Cable. Each hard drive wire is no less than 2AWG with a 9 volt battery, and arrows which show the direction the signal is supposed to flow. That makes your video and audio nearly a 10th of a percent better. It's a night and day difference... well, night and ever-so-slightly less night difference. #worthit

    People dunk on Vision Pro but that legitimately costs $1k+ even for Apple. This? This costs them $200 at most. They're charging $4k to offset their move license agreements + storage/egress costs, and they overcharge on every movie anyway. Insane

  • @PFproductions82
    @PFproductions82 Місяць тому +3

    The cost of this unit is fine. It’s what they charge for additional hard drive space that’s criminal. I can build an 80TB NAS quite cheaply (compared to their costs for storage). Then I could download EVERYTHING I buy on Kscape and feel like I do own it. Only having 10 movies on the unit is ridiculous. If they disappear as a company, and their access to everything you buy goes away, you literally will only have 10 movies to show for your investment. It’s the proprietary storage that is the main issue with Kaleidoscape! If I own it through them, then why can’t I put it on my own drives? Piracy maybe? I don’t know….but wish someone would find out and report why.

    I know you didn't want this type of comment but it's important to compare the unbelievable price difference. Just rip 4k blu rays. You can't even expand storage without paying ungodly prices on this thing. You can get a 20 tb hard drive right now for under 300 dollars. Sorry. If you want the simpler format and are willing to pay 20 times the price (more really), that's cool. Just good to let people know the options. I love the concept and if the players get down to 1000 bucks with 20 tb of storage, then I'm in. I suppose this was a big step, but there's a long way to go.

      I also agree this is still more than the typical movie lover will spend but at least we are seeing some downward pricing. For the folks who don't mind and are technically savvy, ripping is the way to go based on cheaper cost but going with the typical movie viewing, ripping is still not something they want to do from my experience of the people in a local movie group I'm in. I mentioned that I rip file and they collectively just sigh even though they admit my Zidoo setup is very convenient. They told me they would have my setup if I did it for them!

      Optical discs are going the way of the Dodo bird. Many, if not most of the 4K movies available on Kaleidescape are not available on 4K Blu-ray, meaning that Kaleidescape is the only way to watch these movies with visually-lossless video quality and lossless spatial audio. Kaleidescape's store makes new movies available the second they are released digitally. You often have to wait months or years after the digital release for a movie to be available on disc.

If I were them, I'd offer the 1TB for $2500 and $500/TB for extra storage. They can do that without changing any hardware other than the drive. I am one that understands that the insane prices of Kscape has very little to do with hardware...it has to do with licensing Kscape has to oay the studios. Customers are essentially paying a high VAT for access to essentially buy movies from studios as best format/quality. It is definitly for a niche customer base even at $4k.

      @@therealshanelee I love the product. Just not at the price and configuration price. I wish there was a competitor. Prices would have to drop wildly. Their hard drive prices remind me of early apple computers specs vs windows specs. Only in this case there is no real competitor. The alternative is infinitely cheaper but not the same and not as simple for the non tech savvy. It probably won't be reasonably priced until there is a competitor. I do love that, since streaming is trash by comparison to even standard blu ray, there is at least some product that aims to deliver high quality content as physical media continues to be threatened as a medium. We need a competitor though to make prices reasonable. Even still, I love the ability to just put a movie on a thumb drive, bring it to my fried or family's place, and watch it there. Pointing out the downsides vs... doesn't make us haters. It makes us reasonable.
