I like Fireforge and have a load of their hard plastic Byzantines. I got these Varangians to add to the army and they were a nightmare. In the box are arms and axes for two-handed axe, shield arms and right arms for single handed weapons, but no single-handed weapons. So if you want them you need to get into the spares box. It was extremely difficult trying to line up the arms with the hands (which are moulded onto the axe) as you need to get the arms at exactly the right angle to line up with the flat bit at the end of the hands. The only glue which would stick was superglue, and even that provides no adhesion initially. The provided axes did not match the arms (in terms of angles you need to fix at, and whether over hand or underhand), so I ended up having to shave off the hands to use the double handed axes either single hand or resting on the shoulder. The resin would not take my usual acryllic I use for undercoat at all, so I had to dig out an old Humbrol enamel to undercoat them. Overall very disappointed. For the price I wish I had bought some of the metal Varangians on the market.
Like the review, keep them coming! one thing I wanted to point out, with the varangian guard is that they mostly if exclusively used two handed axes. now granted maybe some with their swords or even seax knifes i could see and that'd be nice. just my thought on the variety on weapons
the difference in size with victrix could be usefull, so when u deploy the varangians next to the others, they would look more tough, elite unit, well fed, more rich, your enemy would know that those are the professionals.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Fireforge.
