One thing everyone always skips over when talking about being prepared is tools to fix stuff like a generator or stove or anything that you might depend on. I always keep the basics and have a tool kit for all the basic stuff on my cars/trucks and check the bolt sizes of stuff I might get stuck trying to fix if I’m in the middle of nowhere and need to get something on my car/truck fixed enough to get back into an area I can get help. Another extremely important thing depending on what part of the world you live in is a heat source or something to retain heat if you’re not able to start a fire. Those space blankets work well or keep a wool blanket in your truck. I got stuck this year and it was in the 60s-70s when we got stuck and had to stay over night because we were getting circled by a mountain lion and the temps dipped down into the single digits. We ended up not being able to get out and having to hike 21 miles out and had search and rescue looking for us. A CB radio is definitely a good thing to have if you’re going outside of service areas and would have been a major help the night we got stuck. Luckily I was fully prepared other than a CB so a bit of a hike and we were fine and would have been fine for a few more days if we had to stay at the truck because of weather.
Thanks for varying your topics. This one was particularly useful. If you do another one like this, I'd love to hear about how to prepare an active shooter in the workplace.
This was a super informative interview I learned alot of things, mainly ways to help reinforce my house. One thing that's a good fire starter I saw on some other podcast was lent you can get out of your dryer, just save it up in like a ziplock bag til you need it and that stuff ignites super fast and easy.
I didn't even realize that you posted these on UA-cam until this podcast. I usually do audio only, as I listen while I work, but this is a great alternative. I'll hopefully catch more of these on video. Great interview!
Great episode so far guy's. I believe I briefly met Bryan at the NSF Golden Gate frogman swim event last year. I'm around the 40min mark and had to write a comment for Bryan about when he was fighting to (re)enlist. Similar to him, I'm neck deep in that suck soup with my own enlistment situation and have really been struggling to shift my focus & purpose onto something else. I've been in this battle with the Navy for 7 years now, but have got the furthest I've ever been through the process in the last six month--went through MEPs, got issued a DEP card, was crushing the PST's. My waiver had been approved at every level, and once it got onto the CNRC's desk it was ultimately denied--which felt like a direct kick to the nuts. I've controlled my attitude towards them for that decision the best I can, but you put it in a fair way, "fuck em, if they don't want me I'll find something else to do." I guess it's comforting to know there have been people that have faced this 'out of my hands' sort of issue and still made something of themselves, just in a different way than what our initial plan was.
Hi Jake, I remember meeting you at the Frogman Swim as well. Good to hear from you! You're in a tough situation for sure and it makes it worse that it's completely out of your control. I know it often sounds like BS, but I'm a strong believer in everything happening for a reason. I'm not saying our lives are mapped out for us, but I try to see the good in any situation that doesn't go my way. There's lessons to be learned and even failures (not saying your situation is that) are usually the best things to ever happen to us. Keep kicking ass, you'll land on your feet and wind up achieving more than you'd ever think, no matter if you get the green light for your enlistment or not. ~ Bryan
I’m 2 years late to this video but when it comes to the generators it’s definitely worth it. Got a 20 kw generator running on natural gas. Soooooo worth the 9k I spent on it. Living in south Louisiana where there’s a hurricane every other sunrise & on top of that having an infrastructure on par with Yemen it definitely comes in handy so much.
bro, he would love Burn Notice.. He's like the reallife example of Michael Weston haha awesome.. I learned about a bump key long ago made my 1st one in 2007 remmeber the computer duster upside down? to freeze a paddlelock?
Bic lighters are Great ,...... But they don't work below a certain temperature. It is a great way to start a fire and should definitely keep them but remember that so if you are in a really low temperatures to warm it up in your armpit or down your damn pants ( personal preference right in the tent ) but warming it up. They have got me out of a couple jams but I can speak from experience it will not turn from a liquid state to a gas state to light if it's freezing cold. And overtime zippo lighter's will not keep the lighter fluid in them. It will evaporator out so if you're keeping one of those keep a thing of lighter fluid with it. Just a couple thoughts.
Be aware that safety deposit boxes are NOT insured under the FDIC or anywhere else. If the bank burns or gets robbed and your shit gets destroyed or stolen, it's gone.
Bryan Black is talking about escaping during a fire and then he says the hood supplies oxygen. You wouldn’t want to encapsulate your head in oxygen. Air would be fine but not oxygen.
Alarm.com IMO is the best all around for Home Automation , Cameras , and actually security . When it comes to Security systems. Qolsys IQ2 Plus is probably the best for wireless sensors route. If your home is already setup for Hard Wired sensors then Concord 4 would be my go too. Both systems use alarm.com. When it comes to an actual security provider . Go with one who has the best central station . I believe Guardian Protection has won best Central Station many times . I do low voltage for a living so I specialize in home automation , cameras and security systems . There are plenty other good options put there besides alarm.com . I just personally think they are the best
a tree fell in my back yard, and it was dry and just dead as fuck, well my friend eric and I, built a "cabin" even had a roof haha, but then i went and got my magnifying glass...that didnt work,,, so fuck it, grabbed moms lighter.... shit went up in seconds.. PD, FD, all were there, we even made the fucking paper hahaha not front page,,, but everyone in that tiny town seen it hahahaha 2nd grade... oh in 5th grade, i discovered hairspray and iso alcohol hahahahha
This has become my favorite podcast. Don't change a thing.
Another great Podcast, Keep them coming!
