Combing special operations and working K9’s is the marrying of two things I’m most passionate about. In this episode I sit down with Benito Olsen, former K9 handler attached to SEAL team 6 for numerous combat deployments and remarkably harrowing stories of missions he’s conducted with dogs overseas. From being blown up with his K9, to his K9 having a terrorist by the throat, these stories are gripping, raw, and incredible. The emotions brought during this episode managed to overcome us both and I’m very honored to bring this showcasing of how important the dogs are to our special operations troops.
In honor of today’s episode if you own a dog or know someone who does, from now ONLY until Monday use the code BENNY to get 25% off the Trikos Team Dog Community. From first times dog owners, to experienced handlers, puppies to older dogs, this is for everyone! Training lessons, problem solving lessons, a dog den resource site for everything dog (poisonous foods, first aid, collars, leashes, health checks, fun games, and more), forums with an active dog community, and Live Video Chats with me to answer any and all questions.

Great episode as always man I just wanted to give out a huge thank you, I recently ordered two of every flavor CBD oil and it’s incredible. My Shepherd has been recovering from some surgeries lately and I can’t even put into words how much of a difference it has made, it’s visibly making him a lot more comfortable and giving him as well as us some relief ever since he’s been on it. I’ve been recommending and telling everyone how much of a help Trikos has been, Much respect keep up the great work Mike it’s truly appreciated.
Another great Podcast. Thank you Benito for just spilling it, being completely open and sharing your experiences. Thank you Mike for continuing to bring us some amazing content.
If anyone tells you to change anything about your format, your style, your approach to these interviews, tell them to choke themselves and don't change a thing.👍
Amen!! His interviews get better each time.. GLUED to the computer.
He definitely has a way of pulling the viewer in and pulling out emotions in the guests on his podcast. I wish all the folks who listen would also watch, it's the best way to appreciate the show. I'm glad he isn't restricted by advertisers and sponsors who would want to change his format. It's great as-is.
Make sure to shit on their feelings aswell
Really? I'm happy that you dont dont care about my feelings, but I think more filming with full faces rather than 1/4. Also, while the stories are interesting, they are mostly 2 guys with monotone voices talking..Dont think you can do anything about that!
Best podcast out there. Mike....no one interviews like you. No one.
Hey Mike. Thank you for doing this podcast. I served as a range guy at devgru and I knew several of the guys who were on extortion 17. One was a shipmate before he became a seal.
As you can understand, this was a devastating loss to the specwar community and a personal loss to me.
Hearing Benito share his heart and thoughts during this interview touched me deeply.
Keep up the great work!
Lord bless you, Benito and all of our brothers and sisters who are taking the fight to the enemy every day.
LLTB!!!
Alex Rubio did you know Heath Robinson?
@@aaron123112 I didn't know him personally.
@Alex Rubio
Thank you brother! Respect. It’s awesome to see/watch fellows whom are willing to share their experiences or comments nowadays.
@Alex Rubio Iiiiiiiiiiiii Sir gotta call ABSOLUTE buLLLLSh!ttttttt on that claim of yours Guy ! Will expose after your response intrigued to hear your comical rebuttal
@@BBANKZ-fw4dc I served with SOCS (SEAL) Tommy Ratzlaff when he and I were stationed onboard USS KIDD (DDG 993). He was a GMGSA and I was an OS1(SW). I served at Devgru from 2008 to 2014. My first year was as a Janitor, and the last five years was as a Range Maintenance Technician. I ran into Ratz in the old squadron building when I was a janitor. Since that time, I would see him on the range that I used to work at (SATEC M.O.U.T.) I was on duty at the range when the troop did their last round of training before deploying to afghanistan. I look forward to your response.
2:09 What a gut punch! This is why I love your pod cast, It's real!!! My heart goes out to the family and team mates of those lost in Extortion.
Chris & Craig Decato yeah this one was heavy
Thank you both
JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO FOR ME, & America.
Dogs are a gift. Thanks Mike for doing what you do sir.
Right!?! We don't deserve these amazing dogs, or any dogs!!!
The K-9's and the men who handle them are truly a special combination. Absolutely awesome! Another amazing podcast!
My God, the amount of freedom in that room is unbelievable.
Thank you Benny for sharing your story, it's a honor to hear your experience, and service to the nation. Also, thank you for sharing your connection to the guys on Extortion 17, it's important to keep their memories alive and make us Civvies more aware of the great men who have sacrificed their lives. Last but not least, feel honored that you are one of the few guest to make Mike cry. Good shit guys. 👍
Great podcast, Mike. Benito was an inspiring guest. Thanks for doing this, Benito!! I also want to thank both of you for your candid and emotional discussion of Extortion 17 & the aftermath. I can't imagine what toll that took on the entire SEAL community. Thanks again.
Texas is lucky to have you both!
This is the first podcast I’ve watched where you can actually tell this man has seen horrible things. I love these heroes 🇺🇸
Mike, God Bless you man, you are killing it with your interviews. I really appreciate your style and getting to know each of your subjects and what they went through so deeply. Makes me so proud to be an American, I know that might sound corny, but GD, you get me in the feels each time. Thank you and Thank you to Benito. Much respect!
This has gone from being my favorite SOF-related podcast to being one of my favorite podcasts of any subject matter. Mike, you are an exceptional interviewer. You have such a natural rapport with your guests and you cover so much ground with your questions while moving through topics in a way that feels organic and never forced. I would love to see you become someone with a Joe Rogan-sized audience and have platform with guests that come from all areas of life (obviously with military remaining a large component). I think you're that good--even established interviewers have trouble coaxing interesting interviews from their subjects, but I think your demeanor and approach will get people to reveal a lot more than just stock answers. If that makes sense. In any case, wherever this goes, you've found a life-long listener. Thank you.
You know you on to something when girls watch. Thank you for objective reporting. 💪🏻
Inspiring story! Thank you for your service.
Great podcast, as always. Love hearing the stories, even the ones hard to listen to. You're right, ppl need to hear it. Keep rollin'👍
Seriously the best podcast out there! I've listened to all types of different and popular podcasts. yours has the Best format and style but of course what makes the difference are the real people who have actually made a positive impact on our country. Real heroes are still amongst us !!!
Man, there's some heavy stuff here. I served, though never in SOF. But having the utmost respect and admiration for those dudes, as well as a huge soft spot for dogs, this one gave me the feels. Love the podcasts, keep up the great work Mike.
Josh Phares where’d you serve, Josh🤔
Barry, Iraq 2003-2004 with 1st ID...among other places.
As a regular listener, this one really resonated with me. Having grown up not far from Benny and volunteered at the St Paul K9 foundation in the early ‘70s before I entered, his operational reminisces really rang true. It set the story of Jet and Bart to be the memorial of a dog handler, from LEO to Tier 1...
The story of Jet and Bart and the 29 other fallen operators brings me to tears. God bless.
This is the greatest interview I have ever watched. Thank you for all that you guys do and sacrifice.
Go ahead boys. I'm crying with you
Great Podcast. Love the brutal honesty of Benito.....
I love when 2 handlers talk and tell stories. Keep it up this one was great.
I was watching the newest Shawn Ryan pod and I had to come back and watch this podcast again. You seem to always ask the right questions. Thanks !
This was an awesome interview. I liked the very real questions and Benito's honesty and straightforward answers.
Great interview! Thank you for service Benito and thank you for sharing your story!
Awesome video and interview! True warriors and legends! GOD Bless you both and honor and respect to you.
Mike, this was ur best one yet, Thanks for the idea of having this guest.
Cudos to you Mike. You are very good at what you do and I believe few men are as good as you are at what you do. Screw anybody who disagrees with this!
Just got to this one a year late. Amazing job, he had story to tell and you let him do it but got to the next place perfectly. These stories need to be told !!
Great podcast! Thank you, Mike!
God Damn...one of your best podcast !
Benny the Dog Guy!
Digo sounds like the ideal protection dog, bite now ask questions later!
👍
New subscriber and I am addicted to your Podcast! Love the content!! Love that some of the Podcasts are the cold raw facts and some show the emotion!
Thank you for supporting!
Love the process...THANKS MIKE! What Do I love Most About Myself.......I am a good handler for my dogs.............
Ok, so, now get this lump that keeps getting in my throat, started with Digo!!! Carry on, you guys are my heroes!!!
Thank You, Mike, for this Video. God Bless Benito Olson & Family. I learn a lot from your video`s Life Lessons
Thank you Benny!
Mike and Mike Drop Team, these podcast are the best. I really enjoy listening. Definitely a highlight in my week when a new episode drops.
I was really relating to Bennys story about losing sight of my dog walking at night, and it was right behind him.
My dog was an old lab, really obedient and i trusted her to walk with no leash. The difference between me and Benny was that I was in a park in a small town in Denmark, not Iraq, and I wasn't using NODs but As an asshole I was checking Facebook on my phone, not paying attention.
All of the sudden I realise that I lost track of my dog and now she is nowhere to be seen. So I start calling out frantically.
Low and be-fucking hold she was standing at her platz all along. She was paying attention to me, when I wasn't paying her no attention.
What did I do to earn such a great companion?
All the best to You guys on the Mike Drop Team.
I love Benny’s analogy about pit bulls, it’s all in the way you handle any dog!
One of my favorites. Great work
another awesome interview! thanks for keeping it REAL!
Awesome work Mike and Benny! 🐺🇺🇸
Olson, you keep your chin up! Great job brother! Mike, awesome interview! Benny went to NTTC Lackland a month after I left! Great job to both of you for sharing what “Providing freedom and democracy around the world” means! Thank you both!! Love y’all, “Fair winds and following seas”!!
It would be great to see a war dog do each of the combat commands the dog is trained to do, if you can without giving away any secrets. Thanks, Mike, for giving us common patriots without military experience the opportunity to learn more about our nations hero’s and the things they do to protect our constitutional way of life.
Mike, im new to the podcast and after watching a few it's my favorite podcast. Thank you and the other warriors on your show for your service to our country. Thank you for your courage and sacrifice. Learning about the team dogs has been fascinating, their contributions and sacrifices to our country are amazing. Thank you for providing this awesome content!
Mr. "Drop" i am only 6 min. into this and im already very happy i chose to watch. (Ritland would say "well stick around and you might change your mind")
Mike ... Your Podcasts are awesome.... Thank great job!
I love Digo!!!
Thanks to both of you gentlemen for you service. Mike, the way you ended this podcast was perfect and I'd like to thank the both of you exactly how you thanked Mr Olson. Just received the ful spectrum CBD oil yesterday, gave it my guys a lil while ago. Thanks again guys....for everything
Absolutely, the Trikos CBD works great for my Shepherd he’s been recovering from some surgeries and it’s really been an incredible difference since we’ve been giving him the oil. Much appreciated and much respect Mike.
@@VinnyVincenzoYo thanks Vincenzo
one of the most interesting interviews. even my Weimaraner payed attention. thank you.
GREAT podcast Mike, Benito and you, I can't give enough thumbs up!!! Made me miss the football game, not that it matters!!!
Great interview and an interesting look beneath the sheets of DEVGROUP. Nice to hear about the dogs and how the handler is involved!
Love this podcast, good shit
Another excellent podcast! Looking forward to the next one and hopefully sooner than later.
man.. 2hr10min mark.. that hit home....
this was good.
Carpe Diem.
Great Interview as always
Another great episode mike! Bring on Rob O’Neil!
I didn't get to choke myself this time. Great stuff as always. Ty SIR
Absolutely amazing!!! 👌
The story about his injuries at about the 1:15 mark is nuts.
Enjoyed it thanks Benny and mike
First and only podcast where Mike got emotionally gutpunched, that helicopter story was rough
Mike, Benito. Solid positive takeaways. Aye
I echo Stacy's comment, if someone tells you your podcast is FUBAR tell them to lean forward and choke themselves. Great job with the show and so dearly needed in this time of bullshit, inch deep journalism. Standing and saluting you. I hope my son (he's 4 years old) has the chance to meet you someday. Can't think of a better compliment.
Powerful! 🙏🙏
Definitely got tears coming down. May God Rest their souls in Jesus name.
Wow. 1:30 in and I’m in tears.
One of the best podcasts I've watched
That’s insane! I’m from South Saint Paul too. Nice to hear this story. Damn right he’s a Vikings fan! lol
Seals obviously know how to choose their support personnel!
Amazing podcast!!
Love your stuff man, just discovered your podcasts
Mike: “what do you most love about yourself?”
Benito: “jeez I’ve never had to think about that”
Mike: “that’s the whole point”
Lmao
So this guy operated with Dom Raso and Eddie Penney..thats fucking crazy
Great podcast!
I’ve throughly enjoyed all your shows but this one was awesome.
Have you heard about The Dog Pod at Gwinnett county jail in Georgia. Fully funded by donations to give dogs who are about to be put to rest a second chance from the pound to be trained and adopted. Something Team Dog would be awesome to be apart of.
I was a p.o.s. In a younger life and was in the program. And got 4 adopted over my time there
Olson is a Swedish surname and when he mentioned 'Confirmation' I knew he had Swedish roots as Swedes and Danes have confirmation when young teenagers. Interestingly both countries have a state religion, with citizens paying to the church yet both countries are among the most secular least religious countries on earth.
Most people have confirmation as young teens.
Just a hell of human being.
Good shit!
The canine equivalent of winning a sweepstakes......classic Mike
I really wish I was smarter, I have three dogs, and I LOVE them, but I don't have the skills to rescue or keep one or 2 ex war dogs in their twilight, such AWESOME dogs!!!
How COOL!
Well done Ritland !
And, I love Breston!!!
Awesome
If possible you should have the handler from the bin Ladin raid. If it’s not classified
Love the pod cast Mike! How about one on the Yoder?
Now I'm crying at 1:29:40
Gonna have to go back and watch again but not sure if Mike called us assholes during this podcast. Another great interview man! T3KP
Damn good interview 💪💪💪
Am a vet and not sure if ppl know but there's no drinking for the military in the middle east while on deployment. Ya it happens and if u get caught art. 15. But it seems like the team guys especially 6 got to drink and were immune to any repercussions and rightfully so. That's cool as shit to me
I’m honestly kind of surprised how relatively easy the selection process was for him to get into dev group... I would have assumed that even the dog handlers would have had to go thru BUDs given it’s the most elite fighting force on planet earth.
Mike should make shirts that say. “That’s good shit” and “No shit?”
“What are your fears?”
“Skydiving, swimming to a beach with a dog and dying.”
*chosen career: Navy SEAL*
Combat soldiers are a different breed.
I don't believe Benny was a S.E.A.L.
Kerry Pope Mike said in the intro that he did six years at SEAL Team 6. Can you be in DevGroup and not be a seal?
@@DarcyCarmen Yes , There are hundreds of support personnel at that command who are non SEALs .Like SWCC [ BOATS ] E.O.D. [ BOMB ] YEOMAN , SMALL ENGINE REPAIR , SHOPKEEPERS .....ETC ...
Ian Cruz if you become a dog handler in the navy and after getting some experience, you can ask your kennel master to recommend you to go to devgru, Benito told me that on Instagram
Still he would be training and running work ups with the team hes attached to in order to run missions with them. So hes training like a SEAL in that aspect
How do the dogs and handlers deal with bathing the dogs after events like that?
This is awesome, I’ve talked to him on Instagram before.
