    To get the rocket standing start with the easy, normal, and hard level cars, hold the brake and bump the throttle, then once the race starts, release the brake first immediately before giving it full throttle. When performed correctly on the normal and hard level cars, the tires won't peel out and instead the entire car will lurch forward and the nose will pop into the air. Be ready to shift up quickly so that the car does not hit the rev limiter and stop accelerating!

    This is one of the reasons why the beginner track gets redesigned from an indoor biodome arena with waterfalls, forests and flower field into an open air NASCAR oval track.

    Damn dan. That is some slick drifting. A little rocky around a few turns, but nothing a little "elbow-grease" would not iron out. Your racing continues to amaze me.

    Why can't I turn that tightly on the Phantom? It either understeers or spins out, either way it feels like it can't take a curve. I guess I'm stuck with the Scorpio forever...

    • @onepunchdan4986
      @onepunchdan4986  3 роки тому +7

      It's a tough one to drive, but with some practice it can be extremely fast! When the car understeers, you're either moving too slowly or the drift hasn't been properly started; use the manual gearbox for better control, keep your speed up between the corners, and shift to second or third when entering a corner to start the slide. Shifting to first will always spin the car, just like the original Daytona. Having enough speed for a corner usually involves driving all the previous turns perfectly, so be ready to practice a lot too! How tightly the cars turn white drifting is mostly linked to speed; for corners that are so tight that you end up steering into them so much you spin out, stay in second or third for longer while starting the slide to bring your speed down further. Each corner has an ideal speed each car will like to take them with. As you go up in car difficulty, the margin of error for the corner speeds gets smaller; the Hornet is especially picky when it comes to corner speeds, down to the mph! You can also use the throttle to fine tune your speed in the middle or end of a drift too since the car will keep sliding until it's pointing straight again, even without the throttle pressed. Supermodel will also help you practice; get some good speed and press F5 to save state on the straightaway before a tough corner, then press F7 to rewind the emulator back to the save as many times as you like so you can practice it again. Finally, to get the hard car around the last corner on the theme park track, there's a trick which involves driving through the grass; check my video on that one for some tips. Good luck out there!

      @@onepunchdan4986 Damn, you should start a wiki considering that there's still no proper fandom.com page for this game. Also, another question: do the computer-controlled cars go easier on you if you're using the beginner car? because even if I do my best on the Scorpio without crashing or hitting walls at all in the entire race I still find it way easier to pass the bots with the beginner car even though it's slower. Why is that? is that normal on the theme park and virtua city tracks?

    • @onepunchdan4986
      @onepunchdan4986  3 роки тому +3

      @@Santi-bt7if Thanks, glad I can help! I've never heard anything about the car you pick changing the computer controlled drivers; I bet you're probably driving very good lines with the easy car and can't quite match the corner speeds with the Phantom just yet, so keep practicing; any extra speed lost in the corners takes time to build back up on the straights and that adds up quickly! It's also harder to pass with the harder level cars since it's much easier to bump opponents and lose speed or get cornered in a position where you're forced to take a bad line around a turn with them...

      @@onepunchdan4986 Very useful information indeed. One last question, does the Hornet have ANY advantage over the other 3 cars?

    • @onepunchdan4986
      @onepunchdan4986  3 роки тому +2

      @@Santi-bt7if Sure, the Hornet is a weird one, it uses the exact same old driving model from the original Daytona, so it does have some advantages and drawbacks. First, the Hornet takes tighter lines at higher speeds around corners when powersliding, making it outright faster. Next, the Hornet's speed doesn't decay after drafting behind another car, so you can reach and maintain speeds much higher than its top speed on long straights if you draft behind a single car and then slingshot past out of traffic. Unfortunately, the Hornet has much less grip, so things like driving fast lines, negotiating traffic, or even just keeping it on the track between corners can be difficult. Finally, the Hornet loses more speed when bumping walls and opponents and has the worst acceleration out of all the cars, so if you lose too much speed you'll be completely out of the race!

    I have one question does the normal car have any good drifting skills then the easy and hard and hornet/ and here's my second question I remembered the easy car can drift in the other daytona 2 in the intro

    • @onepunchdan4986
      @onepunchdan4986  2 роки тому +4

      Hi there! To answer your questions, all four cars can drift when you either pump the brake or shift to a lower gear, but the style of the drift that each one performs is different. The easy car can drift, but it doesn't like doing it and will lose lots of speed when sliding. The hard car loves to drift and will hardly lose any speed at all when drifting, but the high speeds make it difficult to control! I find the normal car is the perfect balance between the two: it loses only a little speed when drifting and is still easy to drive and forgiving when you make mistakes. The Hornet Classic is a lot of fun to drive if you're familiar with the original Daytona game, but it behaves entirely differently than the three modern cars and is very unforgiving. The Hornet accelerates very slowly due to its longer gearing and boxy, un-aerodynamic body, but its more powerful motor lets it reach incredible speeds when drafting behind other cars. It also uses the old driving model from the original Daytona where the car seems to 'magnetize' to each corner when drifting once you slow down to that corner's specific speed by downshifting; tighter corners need slower speeds and a longer time in second or third gear before you shift back to fourth to lock in your speed and stick to the corner. By drafting behind other cars and memorizing the correct speeds for each corner, the Hornet can easily set the fastest lap times of all four cars, but a single mistake while driving it could cost you the entire race while you try to pick up all your lost speed again! Good luck out there!!

      Thank you!! These runs were recorded on a simple analog gamepad with the default settings; since the three courses never change and the pace of the game is so fast, developing good muscle memory is the most important part to performing well. Find a configuration that feels comfortable for you, then focus on practicing with it lots without changing it to build strong muscle memory, good luck out there!

    How u drift?

    • @onepunchdan4986
      @onepunchdan4986  2 роки тому

      The same drifting mechanic was in Daytona USA, but was never even mentioned anywhere in the game, on the cabinet decals, or in the instruction manual; only a single line in a promotional flyer mailed to arcade operators mentioned that a unique "powersliding mechanic" would make the game challenging and rewarding to play! Daytona 2 added a video tutorial that was played in attract mode when the cabinet was idle between gameplay. It demonstrates that in order to drift, steer into the corner, pump the brake pedal (or shift to a lower gear when using the manual transmission), then straighten out the car and shift up to end the slide.
