Good analogy. 🐠 🐟
My gosh your discus are amazing. Makes me want some myself...
These quick tip videos have been great. Informative with practical information in a format that respects our time. As an intermediate fish keeper most of the information was not new, but one of the great things about our hobby is all the different helpful takes on every topic.
I liked the kitty transition shots, so cute!
Omg!! I’m watching y’all’s vids in preparation for my first big boy tank and you just gave excellent advice once again!! “The best heater to have is a back up heater”
Check out Inkbird temperature controllers. I just bought the 306A model and am so completely happy with it.
I am new to this hobby trying to teach my kids responsibility. Love your channel thank you for so much good information.
eheim jager on an inkbird temp controller is my go-to
Analogy was perfect
Great video as usual! I've used Ehiem heaters forever without an issue until last night. Luckily, I had an old one I was able to throw in this morning and I didn't lose any fish, but I'm moving away from them. I really like the fact I can control the Aquatop from outside of the tank!
Love the best heater is a backup heater! The kitties!
Hi, your room analogy is great. I have an aquarium that has quite a bit of water flow so as a result my angels look for nice little quiet places to hang out. After watching your video I realized possibly where my Angels like to hang out maybe in the slightly cooler rooms of the house (aquarium). I just recently became very concerned and aware of heating issues after 40 years in the hobby regarding aquariums when I actually made a horrible mistake. After a water change I forgot to plug my heater back in. As a result, I lost my beautiful, very large clown loach that I'd had for the last five years. What a heartbreak. As a result, I became Very concerned about heating. My existing heater on my 75. Gallon has been performing beautifully for about the last six years. All of a sudden, I became very concerned about the six year mark. So I replaced it with a really nice Fuval high-tech. Heater an e-300. And in addition to that I added an Inkbird temperature controller. After watching your video I thought I should have my backup heater in the setup just as a precaution. The Inkbird temperature controller that I purchased allows 2 outlets. So I decided to set up my old heater that's been performing beautifully as a backup heater. Adjusting the thermostat in such a way that it's really not active until that unforeseeable event happens that my primary heater fails. While all along the Inkbird Temperature controller will shut down both heaters in the tragic event that one or both of them choose to go hey wire and lock into the on position and do their best to try to destroy my little creatures lives. Now the problem is I did this while watching your video and drinking three martinis. The good news is that I just set it up? But did not plug in the back up. Im just letting it warm up to the temperature of the tank before I engage it. At that time, I'm sure the 3 martinis will have disappeared. And I should be of sane mind and whatever. Great video I love the way you expressed your opinion regarding heaters.
Very helpful information. Now I have to move all my heaters to the side of the tank with the filter’s outflow.
I have 2 heaters and 2 Tidal filters on each end of my 55g for the same reasons as you state - the water temperature stays even throughout the tank - even more so if it’s next to a filter, because the outflow pushes the warmer water around the tank - from both ends. Thank you for confirming that my thought process was right on when I decided to do that! I also have to thermometers at each end as well that I check every day. I think having 2 heaters in bigger tanks, puts less stress on either heater since they aren’t trying to heat the entire tank alone. I have two, 100W heaters set at 78, and they hold the temp on both ends at 78.
I’ve tried the preset heaters, and I don’t like them. My experience has been that the water temp never gets to 78. It’s as low as 72.
One thing you taught me (one of so many things I learned from you) was about backup heaters. I have just about everything backed up. Extra Tidal filters (different sizes). An older Aqueon filter that I changed out when I discovered I liked tidal filters much better, and I have 4 backup heaters. Extra thermometers, And let me tell you, there isn’t a better feeling in January - in New York - in the middle of a snow storm, temp in the single digits - when you realize the heater died on your guppy tank, and all you have to do is reach into your fish supply cabinet, grab another heater, plug it in, and everything is good again. NOTHING beats that feeling - except having a medication that you need on hand as well - and I have just about everything - General Cure, Ich-X, Paraguard, Maracyn, garlic, Kanaplex, etc - another piece of advice recommended by you.
The other thing I did was get 3 battery-operated aerators for when the power goes out. The power went out 24 hours after mine arrived from Amazon and I was so glad I had them! Now if they only made battery-operated heaters…..
Hi! Great video!! I just oversize mine. I go up one size. My house varied in temp. It's worked great
Best answer ever because I want 😂 Lisa is the best!
Loved the shots of your fur babies too 😅
Thanks for the tips. Love how your nano table turned out.
Great video! Thank you for sharing with us. I have a weird honey guarami that hangs out with heater all the time. On or off.
Those Discus are stunning!
I anyway always keep the heather in the filter compartment precisely because of the risks of breaking and the likes - I always also disconnect them when changing water, because I know how fragile they are, and that even just the contact with slightly cooler water might cause them to break.
"Best heather to have is a backup heather" - Yes, and I keep mine in the secondary (quarantine/"hospital"/reproduction&nursery) tank; just in case, would I ever need it, it's always ready.
Great video miss you guys doing videos like this. The analogy was great as well as the great tips.
I loved your video! You look good with longer hair, love that you're growing it out! Hoping to see a video on tidal vs aquaclear filters. I'm using glass heaters but will upgrade in the future when ire-scape everything. Going to add additional filtration too! A spare heater is the best heater! Never know with you'll need it. Take care lovely :)😊
I pretty much won't mess with preset heaters anymore unless for back up or a quick and small observation tank. You may have helped me regain trust with the placement is everything type concept, overall layout of apartment also plays a roll, heat or air conditioning; some areas feel great, or are always warmer or chilled. Why... because of the accessible air flow.
*breaking the don't plug in unless in water rule I've plugged in my presets to be sure they worked, within seconds they will warm and I unplug. I can still feel them warm more for a few minutes unplugged. So yes they work these tips will be useful when mapping out all heaters preset or adjustable.
*I will say anything under 100W is useless from my experience, again that's simply in my home. I can't say smaller or larger would have the same result. ❤
Your analogy is better than John's movie quotes...JK. You both are awesome.
Lisa you are the best! 😁
Very informative video mam ...lots of ❤ From india 🇮🇳🤗🙏
I just connected all my heaters to inkbird temperature controllers. It was an expense for six tanks but so worth it for peace of mind
I have done the same after losing a very beloved Clown loach due to stupidity. I'm really enjoying my inkbird 306A.
I have my heater by the intake. Whatever doesn't go into the cannister to go out the other way and across the tank, raises and gets swept across with the wavemaker. Seems to work remarkably well too. Takes a moment but water equilises really nicely across the tank.
If you are just starting and haven't gotten your back-up heater, buy a new heater and the current one is the one that gets rotated to the role of back-up, then each year a new heater and the old one becomes the back-up and the previous back-up goes into the cold stand-by in the box in the basement.
i use inline heaters on a couple of set ups but my sumped or refugium filtered setups are all ran on titanium heaters with inkbird controllers, they are incredibly accurate and can be switched on at 0.5 deg drop in tank temp
Very helpful informative video, thanks 😊 good analogy i get it' 👍
I have a 300W Fluval E300 in my 10 gallon aquarium. It takes up most of the length of the rear side of the tank, but my turtle loves it and it keeps his water at 80⁰F all day long.
Girl...I have 5 back up heaters 😂. Great job 👏
I get what you're saying, lol. Makes sense, no one wants to hang out in the drafty attic. Pet them kitties. ❤
I second this 🧐
That was a really good video Lisa
I see all the house plants and all look great. Any orchids , bromeliads , or anthuriums?
Timely video
My heater just broke
Nice double stack cat rack, oh and great info ✌️✌️👍👍😏
wonderful diskus
Great tips Lisa. Congrats on grandbaby Izzy. I totally get your analogy, I rarely spend time in the Den or Living Room since adding smaller heaters to my Bedroom and Office.
Where's Go?...he went. Lol
John's answer was great. 😂 I wish someone would have my back when I'm asking my tank where the pleconator went.
I like the attitude
I had a heater get stuck on this weekend. Caught the tank at 88 degrees. Seems like I caught it before anything died.
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I'm really finding them so informative.
I'm learning everything I can so we can become responsible fish parents.
I've been binge watching your videos lol
I was wondering can I please ask a question if you have time please?
We are going to get a 100Ltr tank. We were thinking of getting 1 Angel fish & 6 Dwarf rainbow fish.
Is this the right amount of fish?
Plus do I need one of those heaters?
I think I have everything else covered.
Thank you so much for your time.
Kat xx
🔥🤣 he went..... PppppaaaaAa haaaaaaaa hahaha ha.🤣🔥
Thanks Lisa I do have a 100 w in my 30. That's set at 79 A 50 w in my 7.5gal that stays at 79 and in my 3 gal a preset that stays at 78-79
Depending on the day temp...
Omg! Where did you get those pieces that are in the Goldfish tank?? 😍 I've got my Goldfish and dojo loach stuck in some decorations 😢 I'm super paranoid putting anything in my tank now, but those look big enough that they can easily swim in and out of.
Lisa, you’re a heater ….
He he
U got that right
I'll still get one, but funny thing about heaters is that it doesn't get cold enough for coldwater fish, and our house is just right for the fish I want in the summer and just a little too cold in the winter
does anyone know if the fluval p50 heater is a good heater for a baby red slider?
Lisa. If a tank needs say 200w heater. Is it better to use a single 200w heater, or, could you run two 100w heaters at opposite ends of the tank
What about digital display heaters. So easy to see Tank temp and adjust accordingly. Only ones I use.
I agree that preset heaters are unfairly maligned for tanks that just need a steady tropical temp. I use them for any tanks I can find them big enough for, unless the fish I'm keeping demand a higher temp than 78 or need seasonal adjustments. They give me far fewer headaches than most adjustable ones I've used and tend to last longer in my experience. Titanium heaters are great, just be careful as they're easier to hurt yourself with than old ones.
Thank you so much Lisa, I need to move my heater. I was always under the impression that your heater had to be on the opposite side of the tank from your filter. I've just checked my heater. My room temp is 21C which I think is 71 F . Mt thermometer is reading 70c and my heater is set at 76F. My thermometer stuck on the inside of the aquarium. it looks like an old fassioned mercury thermometer that would be used in a hospital. i've turned my heater up a couple of degrees and just bought a new heater and digital desplay themometer as they are easier for me to see. i'm quite short sighted. Hope i've done the right thing.
Would need a chiller or a cooler, since it's summer time now..
Is two 300w overkill for a 55 gallon nano tank? Trying to make heaters not work really hard for longevity.
Is 84 degress to warm for your betta fish
How long should you use a heater for? or how long can you use " safely " use a heater for before replacing it to avoid a catastrophe
That analogy got me thinking though, you could place a heater in one side of the tank and record temperatures across the tank. Where your fish hang out, is where they are most comfortable, all other things being the same. However, since a heater cooked a tank of my fish, I refuse to keep anything needing a heater and won't run one anymore. I'd rather them be chilly than cooked any day.
Hey guys! Avid fish keeper here. Just been out of it for a few years and we caught the bug again. With that being said. Wife and I have the option currently to purchase a 350g tank stand ect... only issue is I've scoured the internet and I can't seem to find a good answer on where to place a tank that weighs almost or more than 4,000lbs. Ever trickier for us is we have a 2600sqft double wide trailer house built in 2004. Any suggestions?
Yeah I’m a no heater kind of glad. I like my room temp fish
But good video anyway
I know that this video has nothing to do with the question that I am about to ask, but I’m relatively new to the hobby and just bought a 75 gallon tank (I had a 10 gallon for several months before). I have my 75 set up in my house and it’s currently going through it’s cycling process (2 weeks). I’m not worried about any catastrophic flaws because I think that they would have become apparent already. I just can’t shake the paranoia of my house becoming a pond lol. Does anyone know if this channel gives any tips to tank care regarding structure integrity? I may be missing something, but I’ve searched this channel and can’t find anything. Thanks!
Ah, so someone FINALLY admits it. Size DOES matter.
I like my heaters horizontal and low in the tank. My 75 has two heaters, one of which is pretty close to my canister intake
😅 👌 👍
I thought you were going to tell us which heaters are more reliable than others. Maybe I was reading into the title different.
I wonder if Prime Time Aquatics have copied you or if you have copied them.
Do you have galaxy avatar bettas
Advise coming from someone with your moxy is never a waste of anybody time. I gair-ohn-tee.
“They do the math for you” not the homework I don’t got any homework
You will regret having a preset heater if you ever get an ich outbreak.
Thats another reason why it's so important to have a back up heater.
Remember that time you wasted my time with a heater analogy, then I wrote a comment wasting your time about how you wasted my time with a heater analogy. 😢
