You're welcome. All I can say is ours was a new boiler fitted on old pipes and radiators and the magnetic filter really does collect all the crap out of the system. It's easy to clean and then add inhibitor. I hope that helps.

The plastic bit that you washed also has a physical trap for non-magnetic debris. You should twist that part off and wash it out too. You can see it when it's in the sink. Also, it's better to do the whole process twice if you're trying to add 500ml of inhibitors so that you don't waste so much like you did, fill the filter housing up 3/4 of the way with inhibitors, refit and bleed, run the heating 30 mins, and then do it again for the rest of the inhibitor. Then bleed air from all radiators as this process is likely to introduce a bit of air.

Magnetic filters are usually fitted when a boiler is first installed however they can be added to an existing system by a Gas Safe registered engineer, if there is sufficient space. They are installed on the boiler return pipe (the pipe that returns water to the boiler once it has travelled around the heating system).

@@madmickshere Thanks for the reply,i am going to drain my old open vented system and thinking of adding one,i am a plumber but no real heating experience but i have room to fit one,i am not touching boiler so i can fit one just wondering if it would be worth while to fit other than a flush and topping with inhibiter...Thanks for any advice..
