Thanks, Dave- don't pay any heed to the ADD crowd who criticize you for talking too much. You give out a lot of concise, and useful info, AND you play very well. - Sold me on the RD!
Van, I noticed that Russian professional TV orchestra "Red Square Band" uses RD-700SX. Therefore I was thinking that this must be a good machine. I am wondering if RD-700 has automatic band accompaniment along with the rhythm. And in case it does have it, is this only one option of accompaniment or many to chose from? I plan to buy an electronic stage piano mainly for good piano sound, but would like to have an option of automatic band accompaniment, the juicier the better.
This is the best most informative video I have seen on this new Roland so far. I would like to hear more of the rhythm patterns and live performance modes Roland has that is stock (built in). Also I understand it has a great piano sounds, It does! Not much shared on the other sounds, such as guitar, pads and other common sounds players use today. However this was the best video I have seen so far on what this keyboard can do, to many people that are advertising this board spend way to much time talking, Most musicians are interested in what the board can do, not how much knowledge the sales rep has in discussing it. My 2 cents worth!! Great product at a great price I am very interested in.
Great demo, thanks dB! I'm going to clear out some of my old kb's and get one of these.....tried one the other day and fell in love with it instantly!!
I think it is amazing that with all the impressive stuff this keyboard can do, we are still trying to emulate a piano. With all this digital stuff, we can't find a sound that sounds better than a piano. I think that's rather fascinating. I'd love to own one of these some day too!
Just saw this at Guitar Center today. Blown away by the response and feel of the keys. Piano and EP sounds are amazing. Other instruments didnt sound as good as yamaha
I have been playing the RD 700 series at UNI for over 3 years and its always done the job, although the sounds are 'ok' depending on if you get the EQ just right, the sounds on the new 800 sound great although there is no comparison when it comes to the Nords.
If you listen to some of Rolands old Rhodes samples like the Rd700sx, You'll find they were a lot warmer sounding. I Think they were looking for a new approach to sampling and found it, but new is not necessarily better. I'd like the option to have older samples loaded into some of the newer models.

I've had the opportunity to play the RD-800 and I have to say, it is the best stage keyboard I've ever seen/played. Great quality for a great price. I'm going to go purchase one asap.
Samuel... You won't be sorry! Run it on something with a good low-end base (maybe a good subwoofer) to go along with regular clean speakers. High quality reference headphones work well, too.
Sam, I am wondering if RD-800 has automatic band accompaniment along with the rhythm. And in case it does have it, is this only one option of accompaniment or many to chose from?
Thank you for this great demo! Would you please answer this question: I understand that this piano has triple sensors om their weighed keys. Is this correct?
The HD velocity is often mentioned but never explained, making it seem like meaningless hype. In fact, they use an optional second CC# for the velocity, giving additional detail for DAW recording and other compatible devices.
just from this vid the EP's definitely sound better.. I like the way the RD is set up for live.. I prefer the piano sounds over the noord.. the rest is better on the noord, but I don't have one.. I have RD700nx and Yamaha Motif XF. together they make a great combo.. would be better if you could have sample ability on the RD series so you could really upgrade sounds.. but I have tweaked the sounds with EQ etc. and spent sometime on the RD700nx and I think it now sounds great!!.. stock it sounded thin and didn't sit in the mix well at the gig.. but the tools you have on it can achieve what I was after.. the focus nob (although I don't know it as well as I should.) is not much use...but still so much exploring to do.. I love the action and ivory feel... it was one of its selling points to me.. the piano sounds are awesome.. but straight up the Motif sound sat in the mix at the gig better.. but I prefer the RD piano sound as it has space around it which the Motif doesn't.. great vid BTW.. thankyou!. I'm all cashed out after buying so many keys though!.. just bought Rhodes suitcase 73 MK1 and CP80 in mint condition!.

Absolutely not light. I sold mine because the action felt heavy and sluggish. I hated it. Yamaha and others feel much better. Too bad. It's a great looking and laid out product but the Key bed for me was terrible.
I had never seen that instrument until a half hour before they started filming me. Didn't even know I was filming a demo that day! That may be why - I'm making this up on the spot.
he demonstrated that keyboard magazine is basically a platform for marketing brands of music instruments. Clearly some money is exchanged there to do Roland's marketing.
Not at all!!! Truth be told,I didn;t even know I was going to be doing that video untilI got down there that day. I thought I was interviewing THEM showing it off!
Trying to figure out if this combined with a JD-XA would compare to a montage 8. In my country the Roland pair are the same price as the Montage alone. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
I have everything plugged in and turned on, and it all seems to be working, and I just received it from a rental company- however, no matter what button I press, I cannot get sound to come out of it. I press a key and nothing happens. I adjusted the volume and pretty much everything else but it doesn’t work? Help!
Completely unusable B3 sounds for me. The "supernatural" tonewheel organ still sounds like a bad cheesy toy keyboard from the 1980s. ROLAND engineers obviously haven't heard of NEO ventilator, which is out there for quite a long time now.
I agree. The Leslie emulation is particularly terrible. Ironically, when Hammond was going bankrupt, they tried to get Roland to buy up their assets and the tonewheel organ business. Roland’s Japanese CEO at the time opted not to for reasons I had read that they didn’t like that the Hammond business was failing, knew nothing about how organs worked nor who the customers might be, and decided that the whole home/stage organ market was drying up. IMO it would have been a great acquisition. Roland no doubt would have been able to pump more cash into digital B3 clone R&D than Suzuki did. We might be seeing a killer “B4” on the market today had it happened.
+Kapil Rathod Check out a fair priced Yamaha DGX-640 . The DGX 650 has a different processor than the 640, so try to find the 640 version. Good feeling keys, Good sounds, Good price. AROUND 699.00
+Kapil Rathod It does not feel exactly like an acoustic piano. Its hard to get something in a decent price range to have that feel. It is weighted keys and plays very well.
I hate to say this, but the pianos still sound like Roland pianos...aka not spectacular. I had an RD-700 for 10 years before I switched over to a Kawai MP6. Now, I mostly use it as a controller for VI's.
Roland piano sounds aren't particularly super or natural to my ears and I've owned the rd-500 w/it's poorly designed hammers that eventually all break. I've been looking into the MP11 having been steered away from the Yamaha C4.
Matt, I noticed that Russian professional TV orchestra "Red Square Band" uses RD-700SX. Therefore I was thinking that this must be a good machine. no offence but roland been going downhill with shabby plastic products since the g series have come out they need to fix it up quick or it will be a past product like casio just sayin......
Absolutely agree. When hearing they reduced the weight I immediately thought: Omg, how did they achieve this? Cheaper body, cheaper hammers, less robustness...?
a real piano is demonstrated by playing it, not talking about it. It is for musicians. a digital piano is demonstrated by doing 90% of talking and noodling on the keys while changing settings. Therefore it is for amateurs.

It sounds good, and the responsiveness seems obvious. But I sure hope they aren't using those same rhythms again. They were terrible in the previous RDs.
I wish that Roland, Korg and Yamaha could get together to create the ultimate stage piano... I was watching a presentation of the Tyros 5 (which takes after a lot from the Clavinova CVP 600-series) and by God those rythms and realistic real articulation voices from yamaha sound wonderful. So Roland shoud provide Piano feel and sound, and Yamaha the sounds and samples for the rest. Ah.. Wonderful. Korg could also get in there with their amazing sound/rythm modulation engines from the Kronos. So the simple recepie: Bring the build quality, key-action and piano sound from Roland RD-series + Sounds from Yamaha CVP/Tyros-series(super articulation) + versatility, mixing and sound modulation from Korg Kronos X

i tested out the rd-800 today and was blown away, freaking incredible sound, expression and key feel, best Ive tried and Ive tried them all!
Van Litespeed No kidding me too... I would take the RD800's keyed and put it in a Nord Stage 2. World's greatest stage piano right there

Thank you Mike!
The sound and the feel of the keys on this is beyond explainable , you have to try it, period!
Great demo, thanks dB!

What a monster ... electric piano sound that represents classical instruments from the 60s, 70s and 80s. sounds fantastic too
9:04 "That's for the kids who like those slicer effects" XDDD
Just saw this at Guitar Center today. Blown away by the response and feel of the keys. Piano and EP sounds are amazing. Other instruments didnt sound as good as yamaha
I'm a Roland guy, I love it, great sound
7:09 "Sorry for my bad playing"
Really tho? I wish I could do that -_-
you can hear the passion breathing when he hitting them sick notes🤣gotta love it! awesome playing dude🤘
This guy's a legend

Tyler Thompson I've always thought that Roland's Rhodes sounds were pretty aweful. Compared to say an sv-1
I am speechless. This guy plays so well!
Thank you, Andy!!! You're too kind...
I wish my bad playing was that good
The keys feel so smooth

I hope I can buy this when I go to university.. Nice video!
The rd 800 is my favorite, i have a kronos. And both of them works together
I'm the kind of person who would buy this for all of its features, then wind up only using it in basic piano mode.
Thank you for this great demo! Would you please answer this question: I understand that this piano has triple sensors om their weighed keys. Is this correct?
Yes.
it is a perfect piano and a nice keybord
Dave you are looks like Clark Greg - Agent Coulson from M.A.R.V.E.L. SHIELD .. good job dude.
Thanks, Mathew!
That's right!
Sound is awesome but keys are quite hearable (the same is with me RD700NX)
U are able to change that and save, i did it on mine
Got one for 200$!! I'm learning music theory and piano. This piano really makes me excited to learn!
How the hell? 200?
why am i watchin this, i can't even play the piano
Riccardo Ferrari same bro, same...
same. lol
what a nice sound...

That is one sexy instrument.
the best naturel piano!!
I am wondering if RD-800 has automatic band accompaniment along with the rhythm. And in case it does have it, is this only one option of accompaniment or many to chose from?
Is this the most modern and updated digital piano of Roland series nowadays?
"Is this the most modern and updated digital piano of Roland series nowadays?" Its the best and latest Roland stage piano.
DIGITALSCREAMS OK, but it doesn't convince me at all anyway.
I heard keys are relatively light-weighted, can somebody confirm this? That would be a pity, such a great instrument with an outstanding FX section!
Absolutely not light. I sold mine because the action felt heavy and sluggish. I hated it. Yamaha and others feel much better. Too bad. It's a great looking and laid out product but the Key bed for me was terrible.
Where does the sound come from? Like from a big speaker or from the piano speaker
I wish I had $1 for every time this guy says uhhh or ahhh.

Why not a regular mod wheel Roland???? WHY?!!?!?!?
Those stick things are awesome!
Trying to figure out if this combined with a JD-XA would compare to a montage 8. In my country the Roland pair are the same price as the Montage alone. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
When in the RD-1000 reissue coming out?
How is the pedal resolution? My wife has an XV-88, and says the main struggle she has is lack of pedal granularity.
I have everything plugged in and turned on, and it all seems to be working, and I just received it from a rental company- however, no matter what button I press, I cannot get sound to come out of it. I press a key and nothing happens. I adjusted the volume and pretty much everything else but it doesn’t work? Help!
This piano doesn't have internal speakers. You can use head fones.
ok sold
How do these piano sounds compare to the Fantom G8?
so it's time for me to throw out my RD-700NX? :P
does the RPU-3 pedal come standard now or are they still milking us for that extra $100?
I use the Roland V studio 20 and have a problem with the Export of the project! can some one help me with that? thanks!
RD 1000 is always better... can't beat the original
дорогое удовольствие ! )))
Hey. Is there any arpeggios in that sweetheart?
Why Roland RD800 doesn't have Supernatural Acoustic , Synth
Whats does everyone think of pairing this keyboard with the head phones - sony mdr 1a? Any other head phone recommendations? thanks
FeRGan fressness good headphones would probably be some open or semi open back design so it sounds more natural and it will be easier on the ears.
The keybed seems to be noisy and clicky!
U can change that In settings
1:59 :O the middle finger
What is similar to this piano?

Even the Korg CX-3 sounds better.
How is it compared to YAMAHA CP4
is there any keyboard which is like digital piano in aspect of keys!!!.... containing styles n more sounds than noramal digital piano ???
+Kapil Rathod Check out a fair priced Yamaha DGX-640 . The DGX 650 has a different processor than the 640, so try to find the 640 version. Good feeling keys, Good sounds, Good price. AROUND 699.00

+Kapil Rathod It does not feel exactly like an acoustic piano. Its hard to get something in a decent price range to have that feel. It is weighted keys and plays very well.
Keys Toucher okkk thanks brother!! :)
Kawai CS 11
Can you plaug headphones into thatr thing?
Yes.
730.000 FT (HUF)

Very nice. But, i would choose a yamaha motif any time of the day
I prefer Yamaha CP4 Stage piano with better piano sound. I think Kurzwell also does very well on digital piano.
no offence but roland been going downhill with shabby plastic products since the g series have come out they need to fix it up quick or it will be a past product like casio just sayin......
Absolutely agree. When hearing they reduced the weight I immediately thought: Omg, how did they achieve this? Cheaper body, cheaper hammers, less robustness...?
mishka0 Nope. It's still very robust. And still heavy. It may be lighter, but it's still heavy and robust compared to a lot of stage pianos.
It's okay, but I'm not really convinced about the sounds.I'll pass.
Great keyboard! bad piano sound👎🏽

Still sounds like a crappy Roland :)
Old Roland synth's are better.
what do you prefer to the Roland then?
everything this fella plays sounds the same.
