Excellent video with fond memories, I worked in Ravenscraig steel works and remember the ore and coal trains well, you could here them for miles. Thank you.
Just had to froth over this one, as like my own film from here, they are a modellers dream. Shame the choppers never came off at the end, and i even recognised a couple of the enthusiasts there. Great film.
Aw I know, tho now there’s a good mix of heritage and newer diesels , can’t beat the distant thump thump of a pair of 37’s on full load in the night air 😍
Absolutely priceless footage. Massive thanks for uploading... I am looking to model 1990 at Mossend so have been doing research for a couple of years. Keep the Scottish stuff coming!
Unfortunately the costs involved in operating wagonload freight was the main reason we no longer have it. Something like 80% of the cost was due to marshalling remarshalling and local trip workings. BR just couldn't afford it.
10:30 in deffo 37373 (160) with the cut away shirting beam, more than likely it's regular partners 37370 / 37379 with it but can't tell, front one is 373 though.
This video just shows the important role Glasgow had in industry back then. 08733 was nice to see at those coils, a 350hp loco shifting the same amount of coils as 40 350hp lorries would do!
@@yesterdaystracks Many thanks, hope you have loads more vids like these! . . Just Lima models back in the 90's, most enjoyable to do/research. And apologies, but worse than that, i had a lco driver for a girlfriend, once!!! Lol I seem to have had a fair bit of luck, i'd say, although i would never of met her if i'd chosen not to be a dj named trainspotter, so that was planned lol !?!!! Mad universe this eh :D
Worked at Ravenscraig Steelworks for over 20 years and regularly sat with the driver in the pilot loco on the triple headers. Unfortunately the Health & Safety police have fenced off this spot & spoiled the best viewing area in Scotland.
Hi, no sorry after several house moves my notebooks haven’t been seen for a good number of years sadly , the film case was dated July so that’s all I have to go on
It’s a convoluted way but works well for me, I connect up my vhs player to my dvd recorder then rip that to the computer , tried loads of video cards for PC and none I liked , if you want them digitised I charge £15 a tape and you get a DVD and the file to download.
This just goes to show me how boring modern freight is. All wagons are the same, very little variation in block traffic and the loco's are box's on wheels. Bring back the steam days, when loco's breathed life and there were interesting shunting movements to be seen in a yard.
Railfanning is so bloody boring these days....no cabooses, locomotives all look the same, no scare stripes..mostly auto- racks or containers.......thankfully we have the 'Tube.
Excellent video with fond memories, I worked in Ravenscraig steel works and remember the ore and coal trains well, you could here them for miles.
Thank you.
Absolutely brilliant to see all those growlers &duffs
Great footage, especially having lots of my favorite 37 in it, 37373.
Those triple headed 37's Ore trains were a sight and sound to behold!!
They were!!, by the looks of things the drivers loved it too 😍
Definitely the Best Era ever for Railways!
Just had to froth over this one, as like my own film from here, they are a modellers dream.
Shame the choppers never came off at the end, and i even recognised a couple of the enthusiasts there. Great film.
Lol, i was skipping through in the hope they would set off!
all this class 37 action is very entertaining to watch, shame the railways still aren't like this
Aw I know, tho now there’s a good mix of heritage and newer diesels , can’t beat the distant thump thump of a pair of 37’s on full load in the night air 😍
Bug Thumbs up to the Pway lads on Point oiling. 👍
14:30 watching 37373 stop on a dime and then take off in the other direction, absolutely amazing. Class 37 is one of my favourite locomotives.
Mine too!!, I’m glad they’re still here to enjoy 😍
Another great video of our railway past…. Very enjoyable and shows how much has changed in the last 30 years 👍👍👍😎
Thanks 😀

Cheers mate, don’t think I’ve seen another Mossend Yard modelled, that will be amazing
Fantastic footage! Those old liveries and brands really set the scene!
The beginning of it all wasn’t it , before it was all privatised
11:54 Ah the Gronks. I used to watch them at Wimbledon in the 70's.
Weird steam whistle they had 😅
Such assortment we had then, all taken for granted too. Sadly most of them taken away now.
Now it's all 66s 😡
Tin sheds without character 😢
I’m sure the steam men said the same about diesel 🤣
Its Crazy To Believe That This Was Rail Freight Back In The Days, So Much Nostalgia

Thanks mate, lots & lots of vids to come mate , keep subscribed 👌

Those Gronks worked hard!!, torquey wee things 👌
What a great place ti sot from.
That was great thanks! Summer '90 is when my 120+ model loco's i painted is based around too :)
Wow!!, what a collection, not jealous at all 😢

Sounds like you’re loving life and it’s been good to you 😁
Really enjoyed the history. Many thanks.
Appreciated 👌
04:04 - in the background, a Speedbird livery Class 90 I think? or Class 91?
Class 90 @Em , you’ll see it on the Mossend Electric freight video 👍
This is just brilliant mate. I've got loads of photos from this spot and I think your in some of them with the camera on your shoulder.
Aw wow!!, would love to see some , if you don’t mind would you email some to planet424@icloud.com ??
@@yesterdaystracks I'll look them out tonight and send them 👍
Awesome mate, thanks
WOW WOW that was one very amazing vid
Just a daily occurrence back in ‘90 😊

What happened to all the secondmen?
This is 37 heaven
Superb vid.
Thanks David 👍
As a train I approve seeing my siblings in action
🤣🤣
What is the VDA livery at 3:33? Bright blue and yellow?
It's the BR civil link (engineers) livery. Bachmann did a model of it (38-146)
This video's the bollocks... 👍👍👍
Cheers mate 👌
Suburb, any idea what day it was, was up there July 90', thanks

First week of July as 47323 not had painted name 'JOSTINOT' as yet. I see it at Peterboro 9.7.90 named.
That’s awesome GEN!!! Thanks DJ 👌

An 85 lurks at 35mins...
I only wish I’d got more 81’s & 85’s at the time , if we could only turn back time 🥴
