Mossend Railway Yard on 21st May 1990
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Mossend Railway Yard (North End ) and (South) near the end of the clip, taken on 21/05/1990. Situated a coupIe of miles to the north of Motherwell. This yard was still very busy even in the 1990s. Distribution covered virtually most of the railway network and sleeper trains to Inverness/London would change over from electric traction to diesel traction or V.V. at the yard. On this visit I captured a few class 26s on trip workings and 37s also 47s and 86s on a freightliner to Coatbridge. Note the loose shunting near the later part of this clip and the clashing of buffers and couplings. A sound not really heard now. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

Excellent footage, brings back good memories. I used to be a regular up at Mossend during the early 90s. All a bit boring nowadays.

There's a similar view of Tinsley the same summer, and wow wasn't it busy before most yards followed the small ones into oblivion. It shows loose shunting of steel flats with a pole. This was the month the UKs last hump at Scunthorpe finished.
