JB didn't show it but when I saw Nick Burns comparison he showed how much stronger the Mobula8 frame is than the Pico, it's not even close! Plus, 1102 motors on such a heavy whoop makes it severely under powered! I think a whole lot of people who bought the Pico will be bummed when it self destructs after one good crash. The frame and design of the 95X is so much more durable and strong it's literally on the other end of the durability spectrum than this very fragile Pavo Pico. But, it'll also fly very precisely around all of the scraggle inside the canopy of a large tree... Yup, up amongst the crowded tiny branches and leaves and out through an 8" hole on the other side of the tree! It's like flying through a labyrinth! Nice review JB, and nice flying, with an ok, but very fragile little drone, that's awful heavy for it's size! 🤔👍
I'm excited for the future of these types of drones. I really enjoyed flying my 5inch but I live in an urban area and it was always a pain to go find somewhere where I wouldn't have to worry about bothering anyone. I get to fly my Cinerace20hd way more often because I can just fly it in the house. I also wonder how many people don't really fall into either the category of "cinematic" or "freestyle" flying. Personally, I just like to fly the things and it's fun to go fast sometimes and do dives or split S's but I don't really go out with the goal of learning a trick or getting a specific shot.
I loveeeee my Pavo Pico! Baby drone with HD link and 4k 120fps?? yasssssss count me in! It def is sensitive to the props, basically the second you bump something its not jello free anymore, but I do wanna try adding some rubber grommets to the cam screws. I was able to get mine super solid, but I did crank the heck down on the cam screws ..p.s when you order the Crossfire version it comes stock with a nano receiver and that lil blue antenna. It looks to be about the same size as a Minimortal T, so hopefully the tuning is close. Either way I've pushed the range pretty far and didn't have any signal issues. I did have a motor fail, but it seemed a little off from the beginning and was stuttering already after the first pack, but you're gonna have that happen every once in a while. Luckily I was able to get some spare motors coming, soooo excited to get this back up in the air again! Having something this small and quiet with such great video is sooooo life changing, I'm bringing it everywhere with me from now on (at least until I finish building my 3s O3 Odonata HD :D Great video and info as always!!
8:41 No, nd filters reduce the amount of light let into the sensor, that's it. the "smoother" footage comes from using 24fps 180 degree (1/48 for modern cameras) shutter speed. Just slapping an nd filter on wont make it smooth, it will just make it look like you put sunglasses on your camera lens. also you used to low of an nd filter and its very apparent from the footage, i would of used either 32 or 64 for middle of the day.
You would be right, except that we are talking about cameras that use auto-shutter. By reducng the light coming into the lens, you force the camera to choose a slower shutter speed and you get more motion blur. If you lock the shutter, then you're right, adding an ND filter does not change the motion blur. But you seldom want to lock the shutter on an FPV drone because the lighting conditions vary so significantly that you need auto-exposure to make the footage usable.
I went with the GepRC CineLog 20 with the O3. I like the build quality better. The prop size is close enough that you really have to need the smallest size for flying through small gaps to make this a better choice.
The only time any drone gets sucked into the wall is with Airmode on, Always put airmode on a switch (in my opinion) may even put angle mode on the same switch and be ready at any time to snatch that switch to save from a crash.
I have it with a vista configured. The whoop cannot turtle because the vista is too heavy when it’s upside down. It was in a gym, so floor was sort of slippery
Nice I got an Avata bundle at release to get into digital. This things looking pretty sweet. Good enough to let my family fly around without major worries. We’ve come a long way. Years ago you were giving me pointers on Reddit on my first 5” kiss builds and now we’ve got crazy tiny things like this.
Is it worth getting this one over the geprc cinelog20? Seems to be a tough choice, especially if you have little to no soldering experience. I guess outdoors the cinelog should handle even better?
Or just bind your dji fpv controller to the air unit. I bought the avata because it's awesome, and now i can just buy 03 air units, and use the equipment i already own. Save some weight too.
Nice review, the drone looks like it handles really well for its size. Im on the fence about getting one as I have zero experience with traditional FPV quads yet but was thinking tinywhoop something similar would be the right way to get into it.
I decided on the Mobula8 with O3 Air Unit. I'm excited to fly it! It will be my first non-DJI drone (and my second drone). I'm practicing flying Rates in the sim with hopes of improved success.
It's so much more durable than this one... Just the way HM designed it. And 1103 motors will be so much better! 1102's on a quad that weighs just over 100g with a tiny lipo, is severely under powered! Plus, JB didn't show it, but that Pico frame is very flimsy. Great choice! 😎🤘💯
Joshua, thank you for mentioning Japan's regulations. Yes, the weight limit is 100g. In addition, we are required to obtain our own domestic electorical certification mark (Technical standards conformity certification) for O3 devices and DJI goggles. Moreover, we cannot use the digital 5.8GHz frequency for public or hobby use. Oh, yeah, Yeah, ithat's ridicurus. In short, we are not allowed to use DJI O3 due to Radio law
Hi Joshua, I have purchased a FlyLens 75 HD O3 \O3 Lite 2S Brushless Whoop FPV Drone with a Flywoo Explorer 1000mAh 80C 2S1P 7.6V /7.6WH, I did the DJI update, and after I did charge the new batteries and try to plug them and nothing is happening? Are those batteries Bad? I checked the voltage and they are both at 8V, is it something I am missing to do? Please, your advice and input will be very appreciated. Thanks
Hi Josh, just subscribed to your channel, I'm just starting with fpv and your videos helped me a lot. I recently purchased this pavo pico with ELRS 2.4g receiver. My question is what remote controller would be suitable and best compatible with it? Dji controller 2 and Tango 2 are my 2 options.. Thanks a lot! And looking forward to more of your contents
I have a Pavo 20 and can't find the RxBat telemetry. I was wondering if the Pico has the same AIO board, and if you knew if battery telemetry doesn't get sent to the radio? I'm trying to setup an audible flight battery voltage Low Alarm.
Love the video as always, but just out of curiosity why does the pico get so much more videos than the mobula 8. There's not a video out that persuades me to have the pico over the mob 8.
There are mini T 915mhz ELRS antennas. I have both full size and mini T. The mini are the size of 2.4GHz antennas but the range isn’t as good as the full size.
I'm not sure what settings you're using on o3 or what you're doing to the files in post but it should look way way better. This looks like footage from vista or original air unit. I get great files from o3 straight from the unit.
You have to be able to push it; sometimes the action you want to film is moving fast. I am hoping someone will build a HDzero VTX that can capture 4K on board with gyro data.
that elrs antenna is an 868/915 antenna. not 2.4. they do a small version that looks like the 2.4ghz antenna but it's tuned to 900. it won't get as much range as the full sized antenna though. I guess they made it for smaller quads. several of my elrs recievers have came with that antenna. I don't use it on my 5" quads.
Pretty sure they did all those wtf design decisions to save grams, because they already are over 100g. USB-C 2g, some plastic connector 0.5g, two screw mount for camera 3g, four screw mount 6g etc. They even changed gauge and length of the XT30 wires on the battery, ones that came with the pavo pico are thin, and older stock I got locally from amzn had thicker and longer wires. Also I like to remove the O3 "stack" (just 4 screws and a connector) and fly it indoors line of sight non-fpv, it gets me up to 12 minutes with slow flying, for this use case scenario I'm thinking to also bodge together some 1500mAh single use vape cells into a 2S pack, could possibly result in 20-25 minute flight (without the O3).
Have you flown the mobula indoors? I built a pico especially to fly indoors and very close to people. The mobula wasn't available at the time, but my concern was maybe it would be over powered for tight indoor maneuvering, and I prefer a bit underpowered for indoors. I've got a very light 3" 03 build without prop guards for higher performance outdoor flying.
@@kurtzFPV I think the weight of the o3 ads about 15-20 clicks of throttle needed for flight, so it takes the handling down nicely. Stronger frame than the pico I suspect, too.
I had no issues using the screws he used, I used the top holes and had the camera mounted lower by using the top mounting holes. For some reason Joshua changed the camera to the higher position and lower holes. Screws tightened just fine...
Although i don't fly for the footage, my flying style is mostly cinematic in nature, and squeezing the most flight time out of a sub 250 quad is a subject I'm very interested in. I mostly fly my Flywoo Explorer 4" with 03 , which hits 249g with a 650mah. What we need now is a competition for a company to hit the flying time sweet spot between the Pico and the Explorer for sub 250.
I found a battery brand I hadn't heard of that had what they claimed were 2s 650s and weigh 33g. Don't know if they are truly 650s at that weight, but I get right at 5 minutes with them on the pico flying cinematically. AUW with a 5g standalone vifly beeper is 115g.

Nice review JB, and nice flying, with an ok, but very fragile little drone, that's awful heavy for it's size! 🤔👍
i just ordered one of these, thanks for this review!
I googled "smallest whoop with DJI 03" just last night, and came across this very drone :)
The prop size is close enough that you really have to need the smallest size for flying through small gaps to make this a better choice.
instead of double-sided tape, you can mount a spring washer or lock washer to the camera
Exporting your final edit in 30fps makes a big difference. I think 03 is a fantastic compramise to heavier cameras.
The only time any drone gets sucked into the wall is with Airmode on, Always put airmode on a switch (in my opinion) may even put angle mode on the same switch and be ready at any time to snatch that switch to save from a crash.
Great footage
My big question is, should i get a pico for gig work, or would you gettting something a size larger fly alot better?
It's great for indoor work but struggles in a breeze. I got this purposely for indoor work and it flies very well on the stock tune.
I have it with a vista configured. The whoop cannot turtle because the vista is too heavy when it’s upside down.
It was in a gym, so floor was sort of slippery
Thank you for the information really think about get a fpv / solo gps now
Nice I got an Avata bundle at release to get into digital. This things looking pretty sweet. Good enough to let my family fly around without major worries. We’ve come a long way.
Years ago you were giving me pointers on Reddit on my first 5” kiss builds and now we’ve got crazy tiny things like this.
JB was flying with 100% prop damage on velocidrone 😂
Is it worth getting this one over the geprc cinelog20? Seems to be a tough choice, especially if you have little to no soldering experience.
I guess outdoors the cinelog should handle even better?
I'll b getting this for my house.
I would love to see Joshua develop a mini series on mini battle bots (150 gram, 1lb, or 3lb) its got so many tangents with flying racing drones.
Did elrs ever get it to work with open sources
2 little o-rings does the job to keep the camera firm ;)
Or just bind your dji fpv controller to the air unit. I bought the avata because it's awesome, and now i can just buy 03 air units, and use the equipment i already own. Save some weight too.
Nice review, the drone looks like it handles really well for its size. Im on the fence about getting one as I have zero experience with traditional FPV quads yet but was thinking tinywhoop something similar would be the right way to get into it.
Great review.
Do we need to solder the DJI 03 or the receiver, or is everything plug-and-play?
Fifth ( got the Pico as my first fpv a month ago, really is a great one )
There’s a cross bar that is out between DJI and frame goes directly over rubber bushings
Would love to see you review the mobula8 with an o3 sir
Can I ask what controller did you use ? Im from rhe philippines and planning to buy this drone thank you. ❤❤
The image was very bright, what for camera settings did you had?
I decided on the Mobula8 with O3 Air Unit. I'm excited to fly it! It will be my first non-DJI drone (and my second drone). I'm practicing flying Rates in the sim with hopes of improved success.
It's so much more durable than this one... Just the way HM designed it. And 1103 motors will be so much better! 1102's on a quad that weighs just over 100g with a tiny lipo, is severely under powered! Plus, JB didn't show it, but that Pico frame is very flimsy.
Great choice! 😎🤘💯
mobula 8 03 version i prefer more power and good for freestyle
Can i use any other transmitter instead of DJI O3 or are there any alternative :)
Really nice test :) my o3 got big struggle with image quality at 4k resolution. Maybe there is something known.
I think he used the screws that came with the air unit I just got mine and had the same issue.. then noticed that 2 shorter screws came with the pico
In short, we are not allowed to use DJI O3 due to Radio law
do review on mob8 o3?
Coming in the mail!
Can you use dji controller - and if not, what would be the required steps to make this work?
Run dji sbus directly to fc?
You can use the DJI FPV controller 2
but you'll need to use the DJI antenna with the alternative mount which isn't the best fit.
Of course JB releases a video and I pull the trigger too slowly and now it's all out of stock
Thanks
Can you review the acrobee 75 HD? 😬
planning to made naked O3 Pavo Pico with Bfpv battery will get 80g🎉
This is Badwell's yard in the liftoff simulation 😀
What happened to the freestyle-tower in the middle of the field 😂😂
Is this a bind and fly drone or do I need to mount/solder anything?
So did he create the game or did the game base it on his garden?
when will the 04 air unit be released
There is awful bitrate or just quality. Is it from camera and rest of system, or just your rendering settings? Even in 4K.
What charger do u recommend for the Pavo pico (for a beginner fpv pilot)
Love the video as always, but just out of curiosity why does the pico get so much more videos than the mobula 8. There's not a video out that persuades me to have the pico over the mob 8.
The blue betafpv elrs antenna is a 915mhz antennas not 2.4ghz
Rubber washers between the camera and the bracket will snug it enough u bet also yo hold in place
5k komodo? yes please
There are mini T 915mhz ELRS antennas. I have both full size and mini T. The mini are the size of 2.4GHz antennas but the range isn’t as good as the full size.
Hey guys, is it possible to remove propguard frame and use this guy as an indoor freestyle tool?
Any comments on the durability? Also how's it perform against the cinelog 20 4S with O3?
Not as durable, order a spare frame.
I enjoy your videos. Do you have an affiliate link to get the dji integra? If i click your link to open the page... everything i buy helps you out?
Yes 100g in Japan and giteki certification
I'm not sure what settings you're using on o3 or what you're doing to the files in post but it should look way way better. This looks like footage from vista or original air unit. I get great files from o3 straight from the unit.
You have to be able to push it; sometimes the action you want to film is moving fast. I am hoping someone will build a HDzero VTX that can capture 4K on board with gyro data.
HDZ doesn't film 4k, it has a 1080p 30 mode.
Out of curiosity, why don't they bundle them with the camera/vtx?
that elrs antenna is an 868/915 antenna. not 2.4. they do a small version that looks like the 2.4ghz antenna but it's tuned to 900.
it won't get as much range as the full sized antenna though. I guess they made it for smaller quads.
several of my elrs recievers have came with that antenna. I don't use it on my 5" quads.
but what can it do at night?
How do you get this qwad to bind to dji controller 2??? Help please
Bought the mobula instead. Tune seems better and has a little more headroom.
In the box with the drone there are two shorter screws that allow screw the camera properly.
For real???
@@JoshuaBardwell In my box they were, I have the camera screwed tight.
@@JoshuaBardwell yes =)
I had no issues using the screws he used, I used the top holes and had the camera mounted lower by using the top mounting holes. For some reason Joshua changed the camera to the higher position and lower holes. Screws tightened just fine...
Just use a small o ring to isolate vibrations.
Can I carry the insta 360 go2?
What about the Happymodel Mobula8 1-2S with the 03 ?
Thank You!
How can i flasch Elrs 3.0.0 on the Pavo Pico
seems you missed special (shorter) screws for camera - they are included.
So they have it on race day quads but not on sale on betafpv. Should I get it from race day quads or should I wait until betafpv has it?
If you're in the USA, definitely.
@@JoshuaBardwell thank you, so from RDQ? Also, if I get it through RDQ do I get the whole box with a battery and spare parts like shown on the betafpv website?
5:29 How can you tell that an antenna is ELRS vs Crossfire?
