    For those with CURLY HAIR who want to dye their hair ❤️ (warning very long)
    I’ve had colored hair for mannny years and have gone both the at home route and professional route I’ve had blue, purple, gray, lavender, watermelon pink, and currently have school bus yellow hair
    Having curly hair is already more upkeep than those with straight hair so your already halfway there! If your nervous I always suggest to do it when else are you going to the only person stopping you is YOU! plus hair grows back if you don’t like it it can always be turned back
    At home: it can be tricky to do so I highly suggest doing lots of research using the wrong developers can ruin your hair, doing your roots is HARD 😤 you don’t want to overlap already proceed hair, miss places or have your hair develop unevenly, or be patchy
    Professional: after a year of doing my hair at home I switched to a salon and have been loyal to my stylist for years now.
    Need to know: your hair texture WILL change. Your curl pattern WILL change. BUT with the right products AND upkeep you can have beautiful unicorn healthy curly hair
    AVOID: parabens, sulfates, SILICONES
    Using deep conditioners, oils, and treatments (at home and at salon) will keep your hair alive
    I recommend briogeo deep conditioning mask (I use this as conditioner) Any natural oil will also help I.e. coconut, Marula, jojoba, caster, Etc. (Also apply oil when hair is went & when hair is dry before brushing it will help lessen breakage)
    I HIGHLY RECOMMEND olaplex no. 3 it’s an at home product that repairs the bonds in your hair use 15min-overnight
    Olaplex and B3 are in salon treatments that use bond building technology to realllly repair your hair

    • @Belixology
      @Belixology 5 років тому +18

      Also if you're bleaching at home and can't afford olaplex to add to the bleach, there's a dupe called ion booster that's pretty affordable and helps make bleach less harsh on your hair.

    I didn't know that growing out your roots for more than 4-6 weeks could cause this fuzzy little hair situation
    I have fully bleached hair (I am blond) and I usually touch my roots up after something around 3 months, because my hair doesn't grow too fast but still, I always have these little hairs. In general I have really weird hair and even had some breakage around my roots when I didn't have bleached hair and always thought well, that's just the way my hair has always been but now I'm not too sure about that anymore

I have always done it myself and I have never bleached my hair to the point of gummy mess. ***MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS AN ALT COLORED HAIR PERSON, LONG POST(?)*** coming from someone who's had blue hair for i think about three years? i started off bleaching my hair DIY when i was in high school using a mixture of baking soda and peroxide. i didn't have a job, too young lol and was very antsy to have colored hair someday. i have very dark hair and it slowly lightened through all the levels of blonde until i had a dirty orangey blonde. eventually my roots were too long and i got my hair professionally bleached~ and then to save money i would bleach my roots myself every 8 weeks and also color it. however, i had a goal of wanting to have very long hair as well. ive been growing my hair out from a pixie cut (it's now bra strap level lol yay me) HOWEVER it is so damn hard bleaching your roots yall~~ and it's never any less stressful. i have first hand experienced hair falling out for days, by using the wrong level of bleach developer and over processing it. painful scalp. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE ALL OF MY HAIR GUYS. scary experience. you will _always_ get breakage no matter how careful you are, or experienced. also my hair processes fast, so i will never achieve it being even all the way around my scalp. also sometimes i work 2 jobs at a time, i aint got time for that lmao.
    i've now switched to getting my roots done professionally, but i do the coloring myself to save money, and because it's my favorite part:) you don't want bleach overlap trust me!! you want to minimize damage to have beautiful hair. 70 bucks isn't bad of a commitment, and maybe in your area you're lucky and have cheaper prices than i do!! take care i hope i helped somebody lmao

It is completely unavoidable. Yes you can nurture and care for it with the tips from the video but your hair WILL be processed, dry and overall unhealthy despite your best efforts. To anyone thinking about bleaching their own hair: please think it through.
    Bleaching you hair is literally CHEMISTRY, you need to understand what's what, you need to have precise measurements and good quality products, and you need to do a LOT of research. I know many people do tutorials on UA-cam but honestly most of them are pretty bad and could give you wrong information...
    For instance, did you know that you can't use metallic instruments with bleach? You can use aluminium foil because it's pure aluminium and will not react with the bleach but any other metallic spoon, bowl, hair clip, hair comb could be mixed with small particles of other metals and lead to dangerous chemical reactions (affecting the lifting power, causing more damage, or even releasing toxic gasses depending on the metal you use)
    Did you know that putting on a coconut oil mask at least 4 hours before bleaching time and keeping the mask on while applying bleach will lessen the damage on your hair a lil bit without affecting the colour lift? (Again: make sure your coconut oil is pure)
    Did you know that you should always leave the roots for last because the heat coming from your scalp will make your hair lift faster than the rest?
    Did you know that doing a whole round of bleaching can be optional and replaced by a bleach bath if you're just looking for a small lift, which will reduce the amount of damage on your hair?
    Did you know that you should avoid processing long hair in a bun because it can create too much heat under the bun and process your hair at different speeds, with a risk of breakage if it gets too hot close to your scalp?
    I'm saying this because not researching this thoroughly will end up in avoidable damage, sometimes irreparable. It will probably work okay, but your hair might not be able to handle other processes after that (for instance if it fails and you have to cover your mistake with another colour, or simply if you want to try something else)
    If you still want to do it yourself, I STRONGLY recommend that 1) you have someone to help you if needed (because you have to act fast and you can't afford to take too much time so another person can help you) and 2) DO A STRAND TEST!!!! This is really serious, and I know 95% of people don't actually do allergy tests but this is NECESSARY. Not just to make sure you won't get any reaction (even though you never know), but mainly to see how your hair reacts to the process, and how it's turning out. If you want white hair for instance, you absolutely need to do that in order to check if your hair is strong enough to handle the process if you're the one doing it. It's better to fry a small portion of your hair and realise you can't do it than bleaching your whole head twice before realising your hair is breaking off! Also, please wait a bit between processes, I know it can be ugly but orange hair is better than no hair :p
    I currently have pure white hair with very little damage, but 3 years ago I could only achieve such a light colour by frying my hair because I didn't know much and I was eyeballing things, like UA-camrs did. The picture on my profile is 3 years old and even without the colour correction, my hair was still not 100% white despite the damage... Now I have longer, healthier pure white hair!
    Sorry for such a long comment but I know so many people who tried to play with bleach without realising how technical it is and then frying their hair off or ending up with yellow patches all over... See bleach as maths: you can't build anything good or long lasting if the original math formula is wrong! You can eyeball it but it won't be as good and the thing you're building could fall off anytime. But with a bit of homework, you get the right formula and a long lasting, high quality project ;)
    Voila, again sorry for the length but there are a lot of things you can do to limit the damage and maximise your chances of having good results, so you might as well do a bit of reading before! It's worth it ❤️

    Do not only use a bond repairing treatment. You need to use moisture treatments as well. Bond repairing can only do so much on its own and moisturizing can only do so much on its own. Best advice is cycle through bond repair, protein, and moisture so there's balance. You also do not need to splurge on colored conditioners/treatments like overtone because as long as it's a direct dye you can mix your own with your preferred conditioner/mask and exact color you used on your hair. Avoiding heat styling helps. For after washing hair, do a mix of water based products and a fatty product over to lock in moisture as well(this depends on texture and density of hair though. My hair is pretty thin and a little wavy so i dont put a lot of products in after washing but a little def helps). Avoid sulfates and silicones in your hair too. Your hair has nice even color but looks so stiff in a lot of videos (which honestly cant be helped because bleach is a bitch no matter how much before and after care you do 😥)

I'm pretty sure if you want bright pink you probably wouldn't have to do it but if you want any pastel color you need the extra bleach (and probably a purple mask/shampoo inbetween to take the rest of the yellow out of your hair). Hope this help :)

    I want to just explain what Mei was talking about further when she said when you bleach your hair or get it professionally done you need to realize what that means. Once you bleach your hair your base color is always gonna be platinum, light blonde, or brassy blonde (depending on how well you bleach and tone your hair at home) mixed with whatever color you put on top of that bleached hair and after a few washes, eventually that color will have a faded look even if you do protect the color. On top of this, if you color your hair an unnatural color and then decide to go back to a more natural color, that natural color will fade and not look as good at you root hair color. Your hair will never look even until you cut off the bleached parts of your hair.
    I also want to express the bleaching process is the most important process to getting nice even colored hair. You cannot have patchy blonde hair or brassy/orange tones in your hair or else when you color your hair purple, blue, green, etc. it will come out patchy and not as vibrant not only that but you may not get the color you desired if you don't take out all the orange and very yellow tones. If your doing bleaching at home (which I don't recommend honestly because it never comes out great your first time) PLEASE be prepared to maybe bleach your hair twice if the first bleaching didn't take out the orange tones. I also don't recommend bleaching your hair twice in the same session. Wait at least one or two hair washing cycles. Make sure your hair is as dirty as you can possibly handle before you bleach. One thing that has personally helped with preventing hair damage when bleaching is Olaplex or something equivalent to Olaplex. Just ask a beauty store for it, they should know what you're talking about. Put this in the bleach before you bleach your hair and it will maintain the integrity of your hair. BUT even better is to just get it professionally done because your hair will most likely never have that salon quality look. At least let a professional bleach your hair.

    Thank you sfm for sharing your tips with us! I've had longglonglong virgin hair my 24 years of life and just recently decided to bleach and dye the bottom half end purple! For years I've been getting broken ends and brushing my tangled hair to death and now that it's bleached I've been searching for what to use to upkeep my color and basically how to rejuvenate it as it's been fading! So again- THANK YOU💕 Im really dying to try out the hair masks and hair oils!!

    I loved this video so much! It was so informative to me bc I love to dye my hair and have made mistakes like those but I'm slowing learning. I'm starting to plan hair styles in advanced, added oils (I use Moroccan Oil) to my routine, started using hair masks (I use Overtone The Remedy which I would love for you to test), and I bought Wet Brushes. I definitely am going to try what you suggested! I remember when my hair was so damage I got out of the shower and my hair when it dried a little would feel sticky and soft and would stick to my hand if I pressed it against it. I think that's what you experienced too. Love this video again! I hope to see more videos bc I love you so much!

    I’m dying my hair purple for the first time in a few weeks, and this video was really helpful! I have thin hair that gets greasy easily so I wash it everyday, but I know that’s only making my hair produce more oil. I also sweat a lot, so I'm hoping that by getting an ombre it will help me maintain the color for longer. I also think I might out try some hair oil even though it sounds kind of counter productive lol.

      you can grow it out, but itll take time depending on how long u want ur hair to be! u can also dye it back if u have dark hair, but thats an added process and makes it harder to re-bleach ur hair if ever

      by "take time" i mean... a year or even a few, unless ur ok with having a buzzcut for a while... bleaching ur hair is very much a big commitment, and altho its possible to sort of grow it back out, it can be a pain in the neck lol.

    Is black hair supposed to be able to be bleached to blonde in one sitting? I've gotten my hair bleached twice now and it's still a medium to dark brown and I can't do anything with it. Should I ask my stylist next time to use the strongest bleach/developer she has

    • @samanthadelgado8471
      @samanthadelgado8471 5 років тому +1

      brav0_zulu I wouldn’t suggest that, using really high developers won’t necessary get you what you want and it will cause A LOT of damage in the process
      Hair needs to go through different levels of lightness it will never be able to go from black to blonde in one go it’s a process just like going from blonde to black is also a process
      By going slow your hair will lighten up in a healthy way that won’t cause your hair to break off

    • @Brav0ZuluForever
      @Brav0ZuluForever 5 років тому +1

      @@samanthadelgado8471 but mei and a lot of other girls with natural black hair go from black to blonde in one sitting

      @samanthadelgado8471 5 років тому

      brav0_zulu brav0_zulu Yes but she was there for over 10 hours I believe,it takes a lot of work and even then there’s a point where the hair cannot take any more bleach/damage and literally breaks off, it depends how your hair lifts (becomes lighter) everyone is different
      As I said I 100% don’t suggest it, consult with your stylist they know your hair and will be able to tell you how light they can get you realistically I work in a salon and am in cosmetology school I’m around this everyday I’m not saying it can’t happen it can it’s expensive, very damaging, and if you go slowly lighter it’s better for your hair in the long run

    I dye my hair a lot as well and people have asked me how I kept it healthy. People seems to forget their hair after dyeing it. I always say that processes hair is dead dead, there’s no way to revive the dead. But you can fool people from thinking it’s not. People don’t do anything about their hair after they killed it. I spend twice as much on hair products than I spent on actually dyeing the hair. If y’all want to dye your hair please spend just as much on haircare...

    I have bleach my hair 5 times Today will be the 6 time. Right now I have half blue and half pink. (One side of my hair is blue and the other side is pink) I dyed it myself. To be honest I did a good job. I think that If you don’t really trust yourself to dye your own hair you shouldn’t do it yourself. Cause my first time my hair was dyed it was purple where they had to bleach it first. I say it’s better for your first time to go to the salmon, and my second time is doing it myself. So if you wanna try yourself you can! I’m 11 and I really like it and will do it again but since school is opening I am going to dye my hair back to black or brown today
    You can go see what my hair looks like on insta @kshqn.2
    Good luck for anyone who wants to dye their hair!
