    Stumbled across your channel after not having viewed it in forever. Pleasantly surprised to notice these videos. Your soul-searching is commendable. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Rogue One and recent Star Wars stuff.
    Hope you're doing well, and following what's best for yourself. Despite the negatives of UA-cam and online communities, (and even if you don't return) I hope you can take pride in the fact you resonated so well to so many people. Best of luck to whatever you're up to!

    Your videos are usually funny, or quirky, and always enjoyable. This video is refreshingly honest (and still delivered with a twist of Violet humor).
    The US Army boxed C-ration kits were more than a meal, they provided some other consumable items such as the mentioned four-pack of cigarettes, matches, toilet paper (not enough), chocolate, crackers and cheese, and the all important can opener (called a P-38, because it took 38 twists of the wrist to open a can, as the story goes). They could be eaten cold, or heated before opening by immersing in boiling water. They wouldn't be considered healthy by today's standards, but were high in necessary calories. I am not a smoker, so I used the cigarette packs as trade items.
    Today's rations are vacuum seäled mylar bag kits called MREs, but these are after my time.
    If these sound like horrible Survivor-style food challenge items, they are way better than what other countries give their service members. I had an opportunity to sample what our German army counterpàrts were given. Breakfast included a bread-like thing and a toothpaste tube of lärd to spread on it.
    I'm glad you have returned to your channel. I always enjoy listening to people who are brave enough to be themselves in front of a world of strangers and trolls.

    I'm not religious or even particularly spiritual. But I understand and appreciate the place of religion in the world and the minds of people. Life is hard for everyone, in one way or another, and people need help. When you can't find the strength within yourself to get by, it can be helpful to look to something or someone else for that strength. On that level, I completely get why people follow religions for meaning and guidance, even though I don't subscribe any real religious beliefs myself.

    • @MrBeastknows
      @MrBeastknows 8 років тому +2

      mog dor Atheists do not say "there is definitely no god," rather we say there is zero factual evidence of a type of god presented in most religions. Atheists are based off science.
      Agnostics are beginner level non-religious types. They don't wanna understand that they are atheists yet, simply because of the stigma and their own assumptions. But atheists are atheists. Aka not theists.
      The argument that agnostics don't know and atheists deny completely is just ignorant.

      @NatrixHasYou 8 років тому +6

      That's just not how science works. We didn't look at the evidence for the luminiferous aether and the evidence against, then shrug and say "Agree to disagree I guess!" You're on the internet, communicating almost instantly with people hundreds and thousands of miles away, you are kept alive by advances in food safety and medicine, and you live under the umbrella of those benefits of science happily every day... but here you go, "Nah science, I got this one."
      People spend decades of their life studying this stuff, and you think "flowers need bees" tears it all down like this is something they've just never thought of before.

  • @throgwarhammer7162
    @throgwarhammer7162 8 років тому +7

    The most curious aspect of Mormonism is the fact that anyone buys it considering the facts: Joseph Smith was a known and convicted con man, the papyrus used to "translate" the Book of Abraham was a simple embalming scene, the texts he wrote are blatant attempts to recreate King-James style, biblical-sounding documents, and many claims in the Book of Mormon have been proven false such as the claim that Native Americans were descendants of Hebrew and there were great battles in the Americas using animals and weapons that didn't exist at the time.
    I know how you feel. I too was raised in the midwest in a Christian church. I used to read the Bible and was brought up to believe it, but, though I wanted to, I never could quite buy into it even as a child. When I was your age, I went through a phase in which I wanted to do the right thing and have something to believe, so I studied Christianity and other religions quite rigorously for a couple of years. I went to every type of church I could find, prayed for hours on end, took college courses on related subjects, and even learned Hebrew so I could translate the Old Testament for myself. The more I learned, the more I realized that it is all complete and utter nonsense.
    I suggest you concentrate you efforts on philosophy and evolutionary psychology. You obviously have the type of analytical mind that doesn't do well with fairy tales. I think you will get more out of learning about how and why people see the world the way they do while examining new ways to think about what it means to exist in our reality. The religions inevitably lead to dead ends. They are ancient attempts at understanding the world that are no longer valid in many ways, and their claims are full of holes at best or completely nonsensical at worst. Good luck on your journey. You seem to be much more reserved about it than I was.

    Organized religion is overrated. You don't have to subscribe to the whole package; you can't control what you believe. Forcing your belief system to fit exactly into a certain group just doesn't work. Like I didn't choose to drop Catholicism when I was 17, I just gradually stopped believing. Tried to cling to it for a while out of fear of change, but it doesn't work that way. Just gotta go with the flow I guess. Of course curiosity and research is generally what leads to those changes, so being proactive in that regard is a positive.
    I enjoy your crazy rambles by the way. Just sayin'.

    "I can even go as far as to say that this book changed me. I've always been interested in philosophy and the more philosophic religions like Buddhism, but I've never been keen on religion. After this book, I had a new appreciation for religion, including things I'd previous not liked about Christianity. By stepping outside of western thought and language, I could better understand western religion. The book also draws a lot of parallels between the New Testament and Vedantic thought, directly aiding that understanding."

    I understand the dilemma of being a person who questions and is naturally skeptical/analytical and yet is still 'spiritually curious' for lack of a better term. While I find the atheist/materialist approach the most convincing intellectually I do worry that it can cut you off from very valid and life affirming experiences that are too often the domain of religion (communal, spiritual, transcendental experiences etc.). I respect your curiosity. Good luck on your journey. :)

      Dan Morgan Mark Jones Spirits have never been found or proven to be true (so unless someone comes up with legit evidence of it other than they feel it, then its mostly like not real) and any "connection" you feel is just chemicals going off in your brain. Hope I didn't sound rude, just trying to give a new perspective.

    • @danmorgan7775
      @danmorgan7775 8 років тому +2

      I don't actually mean to refer to anything supernatural when I use the term spiritual, which I admit is somewhat confusing. I really mean to say the feeling of being connected to something greater than yourself that gives your life a sense of purpose or meaning or just happiness.

    • @MrBeastknows
      @MrBeastknows 8 років тому

      Dan Morgan Well still, that connection is anything more than chemicals going off in your brain. Feelings are just chemicals, I just don't want you to have the false belief of thinking you're "connected" to something other than your own body. I mean it's a nice thought and all, but in reality the only meaning in life is whatever you make it.

    also that pink looks really great on you. I wish I wore more lipstick but I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in the world who prefers dry lips and hands.

    I am guessing that you read a lot. You certainly demonstrate creativity, exude confidence, are well spoken and project your curiosity well. I have found every video you've done to be enjoyable, entertaining, informative and relaxing.

    Hey, Violet. I'm an atheist, and I feel great. I was raised as a Christian, and I became an atheist when I was 26 years old. My only regret is that I didn't become an atheist sooner. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
    Also if you want to check out an interesting religion, then you should check out Raëlism. A lot of people have never even heard of that religion, but in my opinion, it makes more sense than the other religions out there. I don't believe what Raëlism teaches, but I enjoyed researching about it.

    Everyone at some point has to go through their own journey at some point. Normally it's during a growth, the Bible even says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. At some time in life we have to decide what we believe and why. Because many of us have been raised with "religion" although. I am not one who believes that a follower of Christ is a religion. It truly is a relationship that goes beyond just prayer or reading the Bible. It's a deep devotion and communion. I spent months questioning and seeking everything to do with my beliefs back in my early 20's. What I learned was highly profound and an immense trust in God the father, son and Holy Spirit. Ever since my "questioning phase" my faith has been rooted deeper than I knew possible. I hope you find what you are looking for and if you ever wanna talk I've talked with many people in your same boat :). Something I'm truly passionate about.

    After watching this it reminded me of this one time after our priest gave his lecture and all, it was time for us to give peace to our neighbors and what not. I was a bit bored during the lecture and thought about Star Wars so when I shook a random person's hand instead of saying "peace be with you" I said to them "May the force be with you" overall I thought this was interesting and yet again as always Violet I got a good laugh out of this w/ur random rambles and jokes 😀

    Violet, I commend you on your honesty and forthrightness about things. My sincerest recommendation is for you to download the apps Ligonier, Grace to You, and Nightsounds. Last week, during the U.S. Presidential debate, I declined to watch the coverage, opting instead to go for a prayerful drive. I traversed a couple counties while talking to God and stopped at a gas station for a snack. There, 35 miles from where I live, I met a homeless guy who was ready for a good word. God had orchestrated my seemingly random wanderings to result in this meeting. I shared these apps with the man, who still had his cell phone (and a job, actually), and these apps in turn will supply him with the Bible's treasures for years. It's no mistake that I "randomly" encountered your video, either. My prayers are yours, and I plead happily for Christ to reveal Himself to you to glorious effect. God bless you.

    Try Turmeric & celery seed for your inflammation. Often they work very well & have a lot of health benefits in stead of side effects. Far as I know anyway. Turmeric is also know as curcumin or spelling. I think it's the same, many call it that. I've been busy & just noticed your notification. I remember you have a sweet voice, yep, there it is :) I went back a few vids, you spoke of your hands, and thought I'd put this here so you might see it.

    I went from growing up baptist in the south to agnostic as an adult.Agnostic has turned into atheist after a good while of pondering.Finding what you believe is a self journey and it can be difficult,especially if you are surrounded by influences.
    Good to see you back,you are absolutely gorgeous,are fun to listen to due to your upbeat personality and have a great softly spoken/whisper voice.When first exploring ASMR the video of you under the piano was one of my first favorites.I have since delved the depths of the ASMR rabbit hole and found tons of great people putting out content but am still excited to enjoy more of your softly spoken/whisper videos.Good luck and thanks for the effort of making new content.
