I love mixed groups, but the female itch to sing with or compete against men in competition has nothing to do with love of singing, now does it.

- You condescendingly ask her “EvEr hEaR oF SwEeT AdElInEs?!?!!1” (paraphrased of course, emphasis my interpretation)
- I then logically asked you when men started singing with Sweet Ads because the absolute crux of her statement was about singing with men. And your advice was to sing with Sweet Ads. “To sing with men” would have to be assumed since that was her statement. Unless you don’t know how conversation and the English language work, I guess. 🤷🏻

Absolutely the highlight of the weekend. It was a teenage dream come true to see GQ compete on the BHS stage. They look so comfortable onstage wearing combat boots and skorts (with pockets) and are absolutely crushing it. Can’t wait to see where the future takes us.
That harmony is insanely clean

Ok, so all of them are fantastic. You can hear the work they all put in and it’s SO good, but man, the tenor is just outstanding with her blend, intonation and tone!! 🤯. So dang good.

One of the great happinesses of my life is to be alive in the time of this brilliant foursome and to have witnessed them performing live so many times.
they sound more tuned than most male quartets. this is insane. Maybe the best technical quartet ever.

Whoever sings the bass part in a barbershop quartet already has BDE out the wazoo. When you sing the low part in an all-female quartet and absolutely steal the show when you get a solo, you redefine BDE. Congrats yet again, GQ! Can't wait to see you trade those bronze medals for gold ones next year!

She has a C sharp that freezes me in my tracks whenever she sings it.
My favorite quartet for years! I’m SO glad they medaled on the BHS stage!!! History made!!!
When I watched the documentary 'American Harmony' like ten years ago as a barbershop novice, there was this nerdy kid during the credits that cited all 75 past BHS champions. Some years later he is the ultimate badass barbershop arranger. Patrick Mcalexander, you sir are already a legend. And have such an awesome quartet perform it like the way they just did, that is just insane.
Three thrilling sets which gave me chills and tears. I was so happy for these deserving, wonderful young ladies. Nice to see the earth is still on its access after women were allowed to compete in the BHS competitions.
God this is such a good song, my favourite of theirs by far

This is one of my favorite GQ songs, along with many others!!
Wow, what a song! The quartet is a powerhouse and a force to be reckoned with. My quartet competed with them in the under-25 competition in San Antonio back in 2008, and they won! However, I don't believe they competed as GQ, but they deserved the placing and more. They are incredibly talented, that's for sure!
I love all of these girls, they are so individual talents and also work so well together!
I can't wait for the day they get gold. They're so good.

@@lollipopjuggs Once you win the competition, your quartet is no longer allowed to compete and the quartet's name is retired from ever being used by any other quartet in the Society.

They switch depending on the song, Katie G sang lead in their other final song
Originally as a quartet, they sang as these parts. A few years ago, for their new songs (or most of their new songs?), the baritone (in this song Katie G) and lead (in this song Ali) switched because IIRC the lead (Ali) had some vocal chord health issues. So depending on what they're singing, they'll switch. They're switched for the other song from their finals set, for example.

Huh? A fourth place finish brings you to the conclusion that they will “let” then win? They were the third place medalists at SAI last contest for goodness sake. The “oppressed GQ” narrative sure gets old. Yes they are incredible and exciting, but to say that they are the only quartet worthy of winning in Sweet Adelines means you don’t pay attention. I get it, you’re a fan, doesn’t mean they should win every year and when they don’t, it doesn’t make it a conspiracy.

Gashouse Gang, Instant Classic, and a lot of the classics did contestable pieces with scat and part swapping. That's been a thing for years.

Were they the highest scoring female group?
Yes. GQ finished in 4th place with a score of 88.5. The Ladies finished in 6th with 87.4.

I believe the original was written by an artist named Aubrey Logan, and this is a cover!

Question - I'm assuming this is an SAI arrangement, judging by the voicing. How does that fit in with the BHS music category?
music category isn't what it used to be...alot of non-lead solo-so what?...alot of non-bbshp chords-so what?
This is a female voicing yes, but it’s very borderline contestable in SAI. The BHS has way more relaxed Music category rules.
Pitching/voicing of an arrangement is entirely separate from it's suitability for the contest stage
@@olliew3223 Pitching, I agree makes little or no difference, but voicing? Just because you put a C7 in the right place, but the basses end up hanging onto that low, tenuous hard to tune 3rd doesn't necessarily make it as attractive as a tighter C7. I know SAI arrangements are modified (or completely arranged) with some say better voicing for singers at that pitch, but that changes the nature of the definition of suitability for the BHS music category. Just my 2 cents. :-)
@@svengilson RE: GQ and MUS. In none of their songs was MUS their lowest score and in 2 of their 6 songs (including this one) it was their highest scoring category
