10:44 correct, the last set with Theme Boosters is Streets of New Capenna, which was [checks notes] a year and a half ago‽ (They replaced them with set-specific Jumpstart boosters)
I think the red blue themed booster from strixhaven was nuts. Because for that price of the booster pack you had a chance at getting 3 dragon's approach in one pack. Which is why I bought that one whenever I found them.
Not only do they not make Theme Boosters anymore, they don't make the boosters that replaced Theme Boosters, Jumpstart Boosters (not to be confused with the other Jumpstart or the mechanic Jump-Start 😂), anymore as of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. Wilds of Eldraine was the last set to have accompanying Jumpstart Boosters.
@@Mordalon you’re not wrong, and yet there is a substantial population of folks whose Hogwarts-related needs could totally be served by Strixhaven with only a few changes.
@@MikeFilemaker I mainly mean that the success of one doesn't mean the other suffers. If anything leaning into the similarities would support both properties.
I think the biggest flop with these is that they _don't_ include basics. If they did, they'd be fun pickups for a little more than a booster. Having quick access to a ton of basics from a particular plane is certainly something I'd like to see more of, even if they aren't full-art basics.
Themebooster Friday Night Paperfight? Like Beejlander but just one pack per player, or maybe e themed boosters and keep it 100 card singleton? Which might be tough given the number of doubles you got
For some reason, even though "campus" is indeed rooted in Latin, "campi" is considered an "irregular plural", which may be frowned upon. "Campuses" is the non-controversial pluralized form that I fully ignore every chance I get.
Umbral Juke is still one of the most hilarious card names to me. Just brings to mind the idea of a football game if humans had squid ink sacs in their abdomens Professor's Warning has one of the worst flavortexts in the game, on the other hand
I mean, yeah, it's pretty bad (just like most story spotlight cards, to be honest), and Liliana is an absolutely detestable character. But one of the worst ever? Have you seen the Triumph cycle from WAR?
@@ArixOdragc Those are also bad and for very similar reasons. I denounce them with a voice that sounds like someone who was forced to read bad flavortext.
@@Kryptnyt I think story spotlights typically have the worst flavour texts because they're often just dry recaps of things that happened. There's little artistry or, well, flavour to them - just a "Character A did thing B" like it was lifted straight out of the Wikipedia article. The price being more is because they contain more cards, and the average player doesn't care about constructed formats, so being "chaff" doesn't really matter if you're just playing with friends.
You know how every time Jumpstart comes up you specify that "The Good one, not the bad one?" Well this was the BAD ONE before they started calling it Jumpstart to hopefully dupe idiots at London Drugs, or Wal-Mart, or Target. Except sometimes these had two rares, so they were slightly more and had some value.... rarely. The same principle would be applied to Set Boosters, and now we're getting Play Boosters that are more expensive because of the possible 1% value.
The idea of playing a silverquill deck with 27 lands is wild. Even if none of the cards opened were land, playing a 25 land silverquill deck sounds miserable.
Only if you're an established player that just opens for value. These are for casual players who just want a deck with a cohesive theme without needing to open a bunch of boosters with off-theme cards.
Hello, it is me. Known human friend of Graham and a librarian. I am very excited by cards like Mild-Mannered Librarian.
IIRC Cogwork Librarian is already taken from one of the Conspiracy sets as a draft matters card.
You indeed recall correctly!
2:19 "Chalkboard." And if no one already says this, I'll be very disappointed.
The amount of effort you put into the slow zoom and set up of the card showcase is noticed, thumbs up!
The original retail was about $15, I got it on a 90% clearance after the they were discontinued.

It's a shame that a _common_ is such an expensive card, but that's kinda just how it be with those cards with the Rat Colony clause.
I think the idea with these is you can chuck in 24 lands and boom, instant (very mid) constructed deck
I might try 23 and make room for another cool include 😏
I guess you'd need to add 25 lands, bringing the total of lands up to 27, time to don your nicest pair of floodpants
I'm glad we have "Plumb the Forbidden"
If you use a Mox, you can cast the card that references Dean Embrose on turn 1. That's Good.
If learning is what you're here to do, then Quandrix is the group for you! Gooooo Math!!! 🎉

Gotta love that Wizards packaging!
As a certified archivist yes, they are very different skill sets with different end users.
Delightful as always!
Silverquill is my favorite college imo. Who doesn’t love shenanigans!
The Strixhaven kids should be the new main characters of MTG.
YES I've been saying this! Put JK Rowling in the damn poorhouse!

I have a great jank golgari lifegain deck headed by dean lysette, and that tenyeared inkcaster is busted in that deck.
Wait, was Plumb the Forbidden a secret Casualty card??

Strixhaven doesn't have "houses" though, they have colleges. lol
Theme packs surely were a product. Much like the set-specific Jumpstarts all the LGS in my area hated stocking them because noone ever bought them
Seems like more of a product for major retailers, as the average super casual player doesn't tend to go to LGSs.
They should have just included the lands.
Well not that Graham didn't remind me to subscribe at the start of the video I don't know what to do.

Campus(plural) = Campuses
Dude I loved Strixhaven. Theme boosters were weird. More draft chaff in an undraftable pack for the price of more.
The price being more is because they contain more cards, and the average player doesn't care about constructed formats, so being "chaff" doesn't really matter if you're just playing with friends.
I miss theme boosters. They certainly beat the hell out of all jumpstart boosters except the core ones.
Jumpstart is much better for quick games as they come with their own lands, and are designed for a variety of ways to play beyond just casual matches.
