Ok so I ran out of description space, so here: One thing I didn't mention was the different regions of Pal and NTSC, since most people I've help with this play mkwii we all use 60fps, however if you for some reason use pal 50 either interlaced or progressive it's possible that there could be issues with that, I've never had issues helping mkwii players from europe but I guess it is a possibility. Also for the sharpen plugin filter, I called an arbitrary limit of don't use more then 0.1, but this isn't always true! Depending on the resolution that your capture card is outputting, a lower resolution will have a stronger impact of the sharpen effect, and a larger one will have a lesser impact of the sharpen effect (or vice versa I forget), so depending on a few things you can actually pump the sharpen quite up and still look ok, so trust yourself and eyeball it till you get something you like. Also I did intend to record this segment with obs instead of streamlabs obs, however Slobs is missing a lot of features that I needed to record.. well this video, particularly color grading. So even though I used Slobs I seriously recommend OBS over it, you can install plugins and it has a de-interlace feature (read description) for all you 480i folks. (edit) Oh yeah, one advantage that the wii2hdmi adapter has over the cable is that it has a headphone jack, so if you wanted to listen directly to the wii or plug it into a speaker or something, there you go. I just want to say I'm not saying DONT BUY WII2HDMI, but rather, I personally got really unlucky so I can't recommend it. There are plenty of people who had good luck with a wii2hdmi, but I just am not one of them.
I've seen reviews from my area (UK) and most say Hyperkin doesn't work with PAL Wiis. I don't know if I should buy it anyways cause it's really expensive and my Wii2HDMI did well (srry Arc) but should I go for the gamble and return it if it doesn't work?
I've been working on a few Mario Kart Wii videos on my channel lately, and your channel is so nice for that because there are a lot of topics I talk about briefly but don't want to spend too much time on, so I just link your videos in the description. Great stuff man
Tip for people who want to only record: I used to use a All in One PC (it’s a monitor with all the computer components inside of it) it wasn’t powerful what so ever, however I was able to record consistent 720 60Fps vids on the PS4. You don’t need a powerful pc for recording. Streaming is a different thing as there’s factors to take into account like internet speeds, cpu usage, and stuff. I was able to stream a couple of times with this pc using the Avermedia stream lab (I have an LGP Lite 310) and it was good it only dropped frames cause of my internet. Don’t let all this computer jargon scare you.
That moment when arc reads your mind and makes the exact video you’ve been wanting to see. If you see this arc I just have one question, are you a wizard?
guy this was so helpful, it wasn’t rushed but it wasnt so dragged out either. I want to stream the wii and I had no clue i needed a capture card so this helps a lot
That cheap camlink (the one not made by elgato) is actually what I own and I remember buying a hdmi splitter for like 10 dollars and it has worked perfectly and the video looks really good for the price you're paying. I honestly can recommend it if you're on a real tight budget and want to capture more hdmi devices than just the wii
Awesome dude! One more tip you could do that I didn't say in the video bc it was a little advanced and more obs related, is you can change if either your GPU is rendering, or your CPU by selecting either nvenc or x264, also the preset option can also make the quality better by setting it to a better render preset.
Coming from someone who just bought a Wii (to make tutorials and play some games from my childhood), the AV upscaler made the video quality awful, so I'm trying to find another way of recording my Wii in better quality, so Thank You
One thing to add is that the Wii's video isn't just 480i + 480p, more specifically it is NTSC 480i, NTSC 480p, PAL 480i and PAL 480p. Which type of video you use depends on were you live. Generally if you live in Japan, Korea or North America then you use NTSC and if you live any where else then you use PAL. Generally adapters can do NTSC 480i, NTSC 480p and PAL 480i. To make sure you're getting the best video possible, make sure to research whether you are in a PAL region, then check if the adapter supports PAL 480p.
I like how you explained all the different output cables, it gives me flashbacks to when I used to use an AV2VGA and yeah the quality was realllly poor
I recorded with an HDMI to USB 2.0 for 9 months as my first capture card, it was pretty good, but now I use a HDMI to SB 3.0 4K Ultra, which works a little better!
I'm using a composite to SCART adapter followed by a SCART to HDMI converter so I'm not sure if it'll be the same way for it with the Wii and other pre-component/pre-HDMI game consoles anyway. EDIT: I'm using a Genki ShadowCast 2 Pro as my new main capture card since you can basically record footage in 4K60 since I'll be saving my Razer Ripsaw HD Game Capture as a spare.
I'm glad I decided to sub because my video quality looks like garbage and i needed to fix it. I had a person ask me as a joke if I was playing minecraft when I was playing smash ultimate for a tournament and that comment has really stuck with me ever since. I hope that it does help with my recordings for the wii and switch and so far from the quality of your videos I hope that it does really help me create some more videos when summer break begins for me
i tried streaming a wii game on twitch, but the whole time there was this delay of about a second, so i was controlling the game but only seeing what i’d just done a moment later. any tips? i’d assume it’s because i was going through both an adapter and a capture card, but i’m not really tech-savvy enough to know for sure, so it could easily be other reasons.
Great video! I’m getting ready to set the Ratatouille Wii Any% world record. (I’m not joking, I already have a few runs submitted with an emulator lol)
for me very simple way to record wii gameplay videos is to have a digital camera on a tripod record everything afterwards simply put the sd card into my mac’s sd card reader and import the video file to my mac boom very simple and fool proof it doesn’t cost much only expense is new batteries for the camera and wii remote
I know I’m late, but what computer would you recommend for just using an Easycap card? (I really want to start streaming MKWii but I’m on a budget and just want a decent way to stream at a low cost.) Please reply!
bro you best? my card show me pixl. I not understand what i can in settings change tv resolution, but you show its settings, very thx its very best, very
I know this is an older video but you can now get a much better Wii2HDMI adapter from a company called Electron Shepherd, his does not give you scrolling lines and has improved signal and audio.
This was super helpful, thank you! I've figured out what to buy but was wondering if it would be possible to stream if I only have a TV and Macbook Air?
I use the cheap hdmi video capture usb thing with an hdmi splitter I bought for like 10 bucks and it works fine... but I wouldn't recommend it either unless your budget is REALLY low
I’ve been using a Wii2HDMI for about 2 years now and it works great for me. You might’ve just gotten unlucky and gotten a bunch from bad batches lol Otherwise, great vid! :)
Really well-made and instructive video! The only point I don't quite understand is if I use an easycap with a splitter, do I still need a capture card like an avermedia or not? This question might seem stupid but I really don't understand.
Thanks very much, basically simplifies this for me, and thanks for the info on the HDMI converter, was gonna buy the original one you said you bought 12 of LMAO
I've just both the setup with the easycap and the RCA splitter and plugged in as you did in the tutorial, and as you show in the video what has to be plugged in the TV are the three female cables. But how do I plug three female cables into the TV (where you obviously have to plug in three male cables)? Looking on internet, I found there's also an RCA splitter that goes from 3 females to 3 males (instead of the opposite): is it possible that you accidentally showed the wrong cable and I have to by the one I found on internet instead?
I used to use a setup like your easy cap back in 2009. Hd pvrs were a bit of my budget as a 13 y/o. Now I just record my crt screen. If you wanna see results look up my other channel robby jvc.
With your Wii2hdmi converters, did they not work at all or did you have those annoying moving lines (hence you buying so many) I thought I was getting those lines because of 50hz power here in nz whereas the US uses 60hz. hey arc i have the same hdmi adapter you showed and it works perfectly fine for me
Do I need both an easy cap and a home adapter or just one?
Sorry about your luck with wii2hdmi

Very good video, Just started streaming and the quality was shit and i had no idea how to fix. Perfect video and i tested it. MUCH better quality now

That was a lit stream arc 👍
yea this was super easy to understand thank you soo much, ill definitely watch this again when i get my capture card stuff

Nah bro I don’t need this. I’m good with recording with my toaster:)
Don't be a dick
I have the capture card set up but i do not have audio for my Wii,anyone know how to fix it? Everything else is on Default
This helped me so
Much man. Ty
Now I can improve my videos thanks to you ! Thank you so much Arc

This is perfect! I used to just point my camera at my tv to record because I couldn't afford a capture card XD
Same lol, i used to use the good old box stacking technique bc I didn't have a tripod ;)

I randomly got this recommended on my feed but interesting I might do this on my wii
Amazing video and super helpful!~
Just when I got hdmi USB recorder after asking in the discord. Thanks Arc!

Other than not needing a Wii-to-HDMI adapter, is the process of doing this through a vWii on the Wii U any different?
Nope, it's pretty much the same
I might be dumb but when you’re using obs to record/stream, do you have to play watching the preview screen in obs?
Thank you so much, I needed this guide for OBS. I have a HD PVR but haven't setup good settings. Thank You so much!
Yeah I did know about the wii2hdmi's being a bit faulty, luckily mine actually works! Great vid too.
Good for you! Yeah I have rotten luck with wii2hdmis lol
Mine works too
Thanks for the tutorial! This will help.
I love how the top row of his wii menu is identical to my vwii menu
You can actually plug the HDMI from the Wii to HDMI into the monitor directly
Thank you so much this is really going to help

Important question: does this work for the GameCube backward compatibility?
this was a sick video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!

Arc, in this video you do in fact cover how to record, but how do you show an input display considering the controller is connected to the Wii?
that, is a big topic in and of itself
I've just both the setup with the easycap and the RCA splitter and plugged in as you did in the tutorial, and as you show in the video what has to be plugged in the TV are the three female cables.
