DIY 16 Channel Servo Tester with 3D Printing and Arduino + Channel Update

  • Pretty much every project I've done just lately has required me to test out some servos and experiment with their positions before they go into the assembly. I usually make a quick servo tester on a breadboard and use the serial monitor in the arduino IDE to get the servo positions, but this time I decided I'd treat myself and design an enclosed, permanent system to test my servos!

    PARTS:
    Arduino Uno: amzn.to/2XoMolo
    Adafruit PCA9685 16-Channel Servo Driver: amzn.to/2NQeNNT
    5.5mm DC panel input - amzn.to/38Spubt
5V Power supply (5A in this case to allow many servos to be driven) - amzn.to/34vILMr
10K Potentiometer (Note that there's room in the design for different potentiometer types depending on what you have) - amzn.to/2sILzs1
    10K Resistor x 2: amzn.to/374seRU
SainSmart 1.8" TFT Color LCD Display Module: amzn.to/2r1kcJk
    Push-to-make switch: amzn.to/38TIwOj
Wire for soldering (single core was useful because of how easily it plugs into the arduino)

next time, try using Fusion's sheet metal tab. might make "unfolding" your model a bit easier;)

The fold up case design is brilliant. Well done. Happy New Year!

Will, why is it I keep finding things on your channel I absolutely need to make? You must be a wizard.

I started with printing and ordering parts! Hope to see (eye pun intended) more of you in 2020!

The folding design is really clever, If one was to print in ABS, it could be put together folded closed and acetone and abs slurry welded together, it would also cover up all the joint lines, Happy New Year to you and yours.

Keep up the good work. I hear you on the UA-cam challenges.

This is fascinating! I have been thinking of building a robotic puppet and have its movements sequenced for filming (stop motion). This unit looks like it would be easily modified for sequencing motion control.

I love your videos, thanks for all the info. Do you maybe know how one could program the animation of bunch of servos for animatronics display? Is there any app or arduino library to make things easier than manually typing each move for each servo to arduino code?

    nice ^^
and yeah would not mind a more in dept video about the programming. And overall great job on everything, currently also working on the eye's and wel to get all the needed parts thank god I have aliexpress :D

Thanks for the work. I I would like to make you think again about cutting of information in your videos. The few people that would do your project are those who will evaluate it and all your hard work and hours you spent. They deserve the information and the others... well they are just spectators sooooooooooooo........ U know.. You knowledge has more priority than the guys that just watch and eat....... popcorn?

Could your eye design have a camera incorporated in them??

Seems extremely useful, and the time saved will make it pay for itself. I am going to document this over at wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Main_Page so people there can use it.

It looks like you used PLA... but pla is a bad plastic for foldable parts. but PETG is better... Just a tip :) nice though
