What is it?
Sphero Bolt is an app-enabled robotic ball, which rolls, rotates, emits lights, and also features animations on its screen. This robot toy is designed to be a fun and useful educational tool while you control it and program it with your mobile phone or tablet.
Bolt has a programmable 8x8 LED matrix that can display animations, colors, texts, or real data. With its two motors with encoders, it can move very quickly and precisely. Among its sensors, we have an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a magnetometer sensor that serves as a compass, a light sensor to detect luminosity intensity, and four infrared sensors that allow it to communicate with other Bolts.
You can play with it using either of its two apps: Sphero Play and Sphero Edu.
The Sphero Play app, with its very flashy animations and sounds, offers you two game categories: Drive Modes and Games. The Drive Modes includes "Joystick" to drive your Bolt in a conventional way, "Kick" to make you feel that you are in a soccer game and the "Scream Drive" to speed up Bolt with your screams. You can also choose between the three games in the Games category and use Bolt as a game controller.
With Sphero Edu, you can use drag and drop blocks and program Bolt to perform different actions, such as acting like a compass in your travels or using the light sensor to turn on the LED matrix. You can also program it with drawings that represent codes, and if you want to go a step further, use JavaScript to program it with text.

What else does it offer?
Sphero bolt comes with an inductive charging base, a protractor with heading, directions, and clock, a sticker sheet, a quick start guide, a legal guide, and a usb cable.
You can also program Sphero Bolt with Swift Playgrounds, an app for iPad, created for children and beginners to learn the Swift programming language.
Sphero Bolt is an all-terrain toy. You can use it inside and outside the house, on hard ground, low-pile rugs, paint, dirt, and water. It has a transparent, scratch-resistant shell.
How is it used/prepared/assembled?
Sphero Bolt does not need assembly. Download any of its apps, charge the internal battery of the robot using its inductive charger, and then connect it with your mobile device via Bluetooth.
Before playing, you have to calibrate it, which can be done automatically using the internal compass or manually, directing the light toward you.
