He was always funny, likeable but for the one time I went to see him at the Tower Theater in Philly. Ouch ow you're on my hair! was my feeling. He was good on Howard Stern too. RIP.
Late Night with David Letterman introduced me to four comedians who I thought were really working on a different level from anyone else I'd seen before: Bob Einstein, Gilbert Gottfried, Norm MacDonald and Richard Lewis. And it's sad to think that they're all gone.
Man, what a loss. Hats off to you, Mr Lewis, your work has been a familiar comfort and a joy for many years, and for that I will always be grateful. Rest in peace
One time I was walking to work at 6am on sunset Blvd and this car pulls up in front of the radio shack and this guy with long scraggly hair gets out and starts looking at his car all animated and neurotic like 'did I hit something?' Or trying to figure out what a noise was and I realized it was Richard Lewis just being Richard Lewis. Just a little gift from the universe.
If there's one celebrity I would like to meet, it's Richard Lewis. He was so funny, smart and kind. I subscribed to this channel only a few days ago, saw this upload today and was excited to watch it, but then quickly saw all the comments saying RIP. I can't believe it. I'm so sorry, Richard. Thank you for everything.
Whenever a comedian dies, it's such a loss cuz their gift of making people laugh is so sorely needed. Many a time my spirits were lifted because of a comedian. Rest peacefully Richard, thanks for the laughs!!!
Aw man, we lost a great one in Richard Lewis. I loved watching his stand up. The guy just had the vibe of someone who's on the verge of collapse from worry and anxiety but he was also so damn likeable.
"I don't know. Can only imagine being in front of St. Peter at the gate with the "War and Peace" thick book chronicling all of my masturbations and then saying 'now we're going to spend some time talking about...'"
"but what if I come back as a ghost? Or as a zombie? Look at my posture. I think it's bad now, wait until I have to crawl out from under 6 feet of dirt. And it'll probably be winter and the ground will be frozen and I'll just have to lay there waiting, catching all sorts of zombie diseases"
I literally just started binging letterman and went to google Richard Lewis as the news came down of his death …so weird. We also have the same birthday.
I just discovered ‘Curb’ this year, and binge watched it from the beginning to be ready for the final season. Richard played such a big part! It will be sad to watch the remainder of this season’s episodes knowing that, not only is this the final one, he is now gone.
Thank you for uploading this. I’m in shock. I’ve always loved Mr. Lewis. I love the sense of humor style of comedy coping with life challenges. I remember I think it was sometime in the 90s seeing him walking Sunset Boulevard near Tower records, alone, and thinking there’s Richard, how cool is that guy and he seems to be lost in thought you know how he walked around thinking! He lived his comedy and he gave me a smile and thought he was a coolest cat dressed in all black with a long hair. He looked so hip and modern. He was a bit of a distance kind of role model in a way for me. Humor, intelligence, humility and individuality. I’ll miss him.
It's rare to have a truly original voice in stand up comedy, even rarer still to be considered one of the greatest stand ups of all time. Richard Lewis was easily both. He'll be sorely missed but he leaves one incredible legacy that will live on and make countless future generations laugh. RIP Richard.
I knew he looked bad on Curb last week but was still shocked and so sad that he passed. He was so unique and special. Thanks for the post. He will be missed.
r.i.p Richard. Thx for being so open and vulnerable and sharing ur life’s tragedies and insecurities w us. Life is so short. Our lives are not perfect but unique. Be thankful for whatever we do have and march on. Gone too soon.
I was in high school when I saw Lewis on Letterman for the first time. I was an immediate fan. Loved him all the way up to Curb. RIP. a thanks for the laughs.
Thanks for sharing Dave! I was lucky to meet Richard acouple of times. Once in NYC & in LA. Both times he was fun & gracious to me & my friend. Definitely will miss him!
Thanks for the laughs, R.I.P. whoever is in charge of the memorial videos on this channel is really prepared! these videos are up almost as soon as soon as a public announcement is made.
"I could've gone to Geneva, they have a guy there for that, but who has the time..." Peak Richard Lewis! God, he made us laugh. I loved him...he loved everybody.
Lewis was the best. I mean him and Larry had such a great on screen chemistry. Loved him since a kid in the early 80s-90s. Man I was born a year after this was filmed.
“Curb” scenes with Richard Lewis are always hilarious. He was such an important character to that show, and knowing how devastatingly ironic the scene in the most recent Season12/Episode 4 is - when Larry has another “life and death” conversation with Richard, and the subject of who’s going to live longer and who’s healthier comes up, well it just saddens me to no end…
Richard Lewis was a great comedian and the best thing about him was the storytelling and how he just gets right into a character he brings you with him and he just keeps rolling
...I'm devastated ...the YEARS, I've watched Richard on Letterman...he (along with Richard Simmons, Cher & Sandra Bernhard) are IMMEDIATE FIXTURES of Dave's Show...It hurts that he's not with us anymore...but, he will ALWAYS be... *NEW YORK* .....RIP, Rich, your Hair's fine, now.....
Richard Lewis had that rare combination that a lot of comedians don’t have. he was both funny AND likeable as a human being. RIP
Plenty of comedians are like that. That's why they're successful.
Not saying you’re wrong but who do you find funny that is really “unlikeable as a human being”?
RIP
He was always funny, likeable but for the one time I went to see him at the Tower Theater in Philly. Ouch ow you're on my hair! was my feeling. He was good on Howard Stern too. RIP.
@@tylertyler82 How 'bout the way Dave treated him? The better side of Dave came out here. Could be before he became a Lefty.
RIP Richard Lewis
We love you in curb your enthusiasm ❤️🙏🏻😔
Yes!❤
R.I.P. Richard. Thanks for all the laughter!
Late Night with David Letterman introduced me to four comedians who I thought were really working on a different level from anyone else I'd seen before: Bob Einstein, Gilbert Gottfried, Norm MacDonald and Richard Lewis. And it's sad to think that they're all gone.
I agree those comedians are great. He also introduced me to Andy Kaufman RIP❤
great list. the best always seem to leave first.
"Ow you're on my hair" is one of the quintissential Richard Lewis lines - great choice of appearance to post
I’ve never heard that, brilliant!!💖🤣
Man, what a loss. Hats off to you, Mr Lewis, your work has been a familiar comfort and a joy for many years, and for that I will always be grateful. Rest in peace
This one hurts. Richard was always one of my very favorite guests on Late Night. Absolutely loved him.
"I'm a failure. I'm a loser. I'm nowhere." Man, I laughed just as hard as when it aired the first time.
RIP Richard Lewis! I remember you making me laugh way back in the 1980s!
We all can relate! I'm just now discovering him, thanks to Andrew Dice Clay mentioning him on Instagram.
Look at how handsome he is! Rest in Peace, Richard.

His Tombstone should read, " see, I told you I was sick."
Good one.
"I told you I was ill" is the epitaph written in Gaelic on Spike Milligan's gravestone (died 2002).
@@WahPopWahIf you search for gravestone-I-told-you-I-was-sick, you’ll find pictures of earlier examples.

RIP Richard Lewis. One of my favorite hypochondriac comedians. He brought many laughs to the world.
Richard on Late Night was always must-watch TV. Such a comedic genius and someone who broke through all the noise. RIP
Damn. So sad to lose him. Thanks for all the hilarious joy you gave us Richard.
I met Richard when I was in high school and I have to say the nicest man I have ever met. Thank you and RIP ❤❤
RIP. Such a funny man. I loved his attitude so much.
Rip Richard Lewis thanks for all the laughs a true legend
Richard Lewis will never have to worry about his health again. His condition will be stable forever. Love Dave and Richard. RIP

The conversation between Richard and Larry about the will and would outlive who was sadly premonitory! He was simply brilliant!
The second I heard he died, after my initial pang of sadness, I thought wow, that beautiful bastard is so committed to the bit!!!
Thanks for the laughs, Richard, RIP
R.I.P Richard Lewis 🙏
I remember this episode. RIP Richard, thanks for all the great laughs
You’ll not be forgotten Richard! RIP and fly high 😊 Ty Dave and crew for putting this one out so quickly 🙏✨
Appreciate the quick upload Dave - wish he or Chris Eliot were included on your final Top 10 list.
RIP to the Prince of Pain 😔

When a celebrity dies, I always find out from Letterman
Posting a clip.
Richard was a walking and talking DSM 5 manual and it was all hilarious. He will be missed… brilliant comedy with Larry David.
RIP Mr. Lewis. His appearances on Letterman were always must-sees and he always delivered. He was funny right to the end on Curb as well.
